Blank DVD's being ejected upon mounting.

I know there's a topic right below me about DVD's being ejected, but that topic is about all DVDs. My problem seems to be just blank DVD's and burned DVD's. I've tried different brands, doesn't seem to be the problem. I was thinking about trying a cleaner, anyone have any brands in mind? Also, if that does not fix my problem, could the optical drive be replaced?

If your machine is under a year old, I would take it in for service.
If your machine same thing.
Wouldn't want you to damage your machine so badly they'd say its your fault they have to repair it, and they wouldn't want to cover it.

  • Blank DVD-R being ejected

When I insert a blank DVD-R it is ejected. No icon appears on my desktop
System Pref is set to iPhoto, how do I change this to "Open Finder"?

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

  • DVD's being ejected upon insertion.

I've noticed a few similar questions, but most are from at least several months ago - if not longer. My mbp can accept cd's without much problem (reading them can take a few moments, but nothing unusual). However, lately I've had significant trouble with dvd's. I insert them, they appear to be read and then are ejected before being mounted. Happens with both dvd movies and data discs (burned and original).
I've done some troubleshooting (resetting both SMC and PRAM) and neither appears to help. I will be attempting a thorough cleaning of the lens in hopes that it might resolve the issue. Beyond that, however, what could the problem be?
    Many thanks.

  • Blank DVD disk image won't mount on desktop

A DVD or CD with data on it mounts fine, as well as a blank RW CD... However, when attempting to mount a blank DVD, it ejects after 10 seconds or so, regardless if I use a burn application or the Finder... The computer is over a year old and I have had no problems until less than a week ago... looking for reasons and fixes... Universally perplexed %?@*!!!

  • Blank DVD-R's won't mount even though compatible with system

Trying to copy just a couple  photos onto disc for a resume. Blank DVD-R will not mount on screen. They are accepted then rejected. Old DVD-R with information WILL mount, as well as CD-R's (audio). Using a fairly new MacBook Pro. Have checked HELP sections and computer system is compatible w/ DVD-R. So the disc drive(?) works but something that has always been very simple to do is not working. Am I using the wrong DVD? Have used this in the past so I'm confused. Any suggestions much appreciated since I need to get this done & mailed off ASAP. Thank you!

Once in a while few blank dvds may go bad.
Try to clean them or try a different batch.

  • Blank DVD is being scratched while recording since last update

Help me troubleshoot. On 09/29/09 I did an update on Microsoft update. Since then my Microsoft Office 2007 Word will shut down unexpectedly. The iDVD has recently done the same since that update. (It's an automated update that Apple sends, so whatever was the recent one sent is the one I did) Before the update, I had made a few DVDs with the iDVD application. However, I tried to burn a new dvd with the iDVD app. It did not read my blank DVD, although it's the dvds are from the same pack I used before. It also left scratch marks on them. I went through 4 DVDs to confirm that the disk went in clean and came out with a scratches. There have been other "buggy" things since my update. I have never used a wireless mouse, but every time I restart the computer after a shut down, it searches for a mouse. My mouse is still attached to the keyboard, but will be undiscoverable. I hope someone can help.

Hi Miss Chelle, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I see 3 totally different problems here, but knowing which exact Mac you have would help, try the Apple Icon>About this Mac, report what that says at least.

The Drive has gone bad or has some foreign matter in it.

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
I have never used a wireless mouse, but every time I restart the computer after a shut down, it searches for a mouse.
OPen System Preferences>Bluetooth, then remove any devive there or see if there's an OFF box.

  • After install all CD's DVD's keep ejecting without mounting

After installing the snow leopard when I put in any CD or DVD it churns away for 30 seconds or so and then ejects the disc.
I cannot get it to mount anything.
This is not the same problem as just the install discs ejecting. And the drive was fine before the install (actually I recall the drive did work for a day or two after the initial install but now consistently ejects everything when I put it in.
    Thanks for any help.

Just a guess, but what is set as the default action upon inserting a cd or dvd?
    From: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2490
    Set Your Media Preferences
Open System Preferences and click CDs & DVDs to display its preferences.
The top two pop-up menus let you decide what your Mac should do when you insert a blank CD or DVD. By default, both menus are set to "Ask what to do"; this action opens a dialog. You can change it to open your choice of application, open Disk Utility, run a script, or simply ignore it.
The bottom three pop-up menus let you choose what your Mac should do when you insert a music CD, picture CD, or video DVD, respectively.

  • 10.4 DVD is being ejected by my iMac G5

I'm running 10.3.9 and want to install the 10.4 with its DVD. My G5 is ejecting the DVD after 30 sec., without reading it. Is there anybody who knows that problem? Is there a solution?
    Thanks.

Ieclone, welcome, DVD and CD are separate lens, so first try a lens cleaner and see if that works. If not check in Apple/About this Mac/More Info/System Profiler and see if it is a Sony DVD RW-DW U12A, these have been known to be a little problematic and for not reading the newer 16X media.

  • SuperDrive ejecting blank DVDs without mounting

My SuperDrive no longer reads blank DVDs, and just ejects them after a few seconds of spinning...
    Specs: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E; Firmware: ZA0E...
The DVD does not remain in the drive long enough to try anything with Disk Utility...
Anyone got a solution that does not involve replacing the drive or re-installing Leopard?

    Again,
i have the same problem as detailed here with DVD -Rs being ejected, this time with a G5 iMac.
    The drive 'spec' is:
    MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846:
    Model: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846
    Revision: FA0G
    Serial Number:
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    Low Power Polling: Yes
I don't think I've seen any real solution to the problem, other than a full reinstall. However, presumably that just puts the OS back to a previous version which will get over-written with the next automatic update.

  • Ejecting Blank DVD Media

    Hello all,
I have an Intel iMac that has been working great for about a year burning DVDs from iDVD and Disk Utility. I use Verbatim 16x media and always have. Earlier this week while working on a slideshow/video for our swim team; iDVD errored trying to write a disk. No message just stopped and ejected disk. Now, if I insert blank DVD media, it will not mount and ejects after a few seconds. I read something about alignment issues. I've also read that this issue could be related to a firmware/software update.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Leo

did you solve your problem ?
I've got a similar thing ... not exact ..... when I have external media they do not eject except if I use disk utility .... boring since just trashing or clicking the small arrow did it for years and now .... NOT ....
don't know if it's connected, but I've been searching for a why on this for months .... no info coming back to me yet ..... obviously worried if it spells disaster at some point when I am blocked completely

  • Problem loading Blank DVD

I used to be able to burn blank DVDs on the MacBook Pro. But now when I insert a blank DVD, it is ejected automatically after half a minute.
I have seen many threads on the internet. Some suggested it might be due to iTunes update. How do I have the macBook recognize the blank DVD properly so that I can burn data on it.
I have iTunes version 8.2.1 if that helps. Help in getting this issue resolved is very much appreciated. I am able to work with data DVDs properly.

I would suggest you ask this question in the Optical Drive and your MacBook Pro forum. This forum is for questions about Mail and Address Book in Mac OS X and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick answer.
    Regards.

  • Blank DVD+R won't mount, always ejects

After installing Leopard, any blank DVD+R that I insert won't mount, it makes noises and always ejects -
    yet
    1. I can read the Mac OSX Leopard DVD and have installed it.
    2. Blank CDs mount and can be burned. And they play as well.
This appears to be happening only after installing Leopard. Help, anyone!!

The specs for this drive are hard to find, but this came up with some Google searching:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835E:
    Firmware Revision: GAN7
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media: No
This would indicate that this drive does not support double-layer (DL) DVDs. You can confirm this by checking the specs for yours in System Profiler.
