Blank DVD's In My IBook

Every time I insert a blank DVD into my iBook, it ejects its self. I can play DVD's no matter if they are movies or information but blank DVD's eject. Also when I insert a blank CD, it does not open on my iTunes. I have it set up so that when ever a CD is put into my iBook, blank or not, iTunes should open (and it does if there is information on the cd).
Any iDeas out there?
Thank you.
Jason Lee Byrd

Well, I haven't found a way to get mine to open (show) a blank CD in iTunes either. It DOES open iTunes when you insert a blank CD if you ask it to do that. I tested to see if making it the default action to open iTunes when you insert a blank CD works, and it does.
Then, I get this message:
You've inserted a blank CD. To burn songs on the CD, select the playlist that contains the songs you want to burn, and then click Burn Disc in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window.
If you haven't yet created the playlist, choose File > New Playlist, then drag songs from your library to the playlist.
You have the option to "Don't show this message again," which you may have checked so that you don't see the explanation.
It really doesn't matter that the blank CD doesn't show up in iTunes. You can burn directly from iTunes, anyway. iTunes recognizes that it's there. There's really nothing to "open" when it's blank.
I think your iBook is acting exactly as it should. No problem (from what I can determine). It may not be working the way you would rather it would work, but it looks like it's acting the way it's meant to work.

  • Ibook does not recognize blank DVD - profiler looks suspicious

I have an ibook g4 1.42GHz running OS 10.4.11 purchased used about 10 months ago.
All of the literature says it should have a SuperDrive which should be able to burn DVD (SuperDrive DVD±RW/CD-RW). However I cannot get it to recognize a blank DVD. Plus iDVD brings up a message saying "your macintosh does not have a supported Superdrive...you will not be able to burn a dvd"
Doing some digging, the System Profiler looks like it thinks i shouldn't be able to either:

I am not aware that this model ever came NOT able to burn dvd. The only explanation i see is that the person i bought it from may have had it refurbished for some reason and they put in the wrong optical drive? Is that possible?
Or does anyone have any other explanation or fix?

    Hi
What you mean exactly? Does the drive does not recognize content on the media or there is problem if you want to burn data on DVD-R media?
Can you please explain all this a little bit more preciously?
Just for info: I use TDK empty medias almost 5 years and I can say that TDK is very good manufacturer for this stuff.

  • Drive keeps ejecting Blank DVDs but will read DVD with media in it

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

  • Blank DVD

    Hello,
I'm using an iBook G3 with 10.3.9. It works fine and I have no problem using or burning CDs. I recently purchased some new Memorex 16X 4.7GB blank dvd-r disks to record some items but every time I insert the disk(s), they eject. Obviously I'm not sure why since they seem to be the same dimensions as CDs. I would appreciate any feedback on why they don't work, or do I need to find some cash for a new machine. Thanks in advance for any info.
    Bob

No G3 Mac comes with a drive capable of burning DVDs; you need an internal or external drive capable of doing so or a new Mac. If you choose an external drive, it should be a FireWire drive if possible.

IMAC DVD Player does not recognizing dvd movie . I have an IMAC (10.7.4) using DVDPlayer (vers. 5500.26.11) and it will not recognize/play a dvd movie...it thinks it is a blank dvd. The IMAC will play rented dvd movies.   The dvd movie plays fine on my Mac Book Pro (10.6.8) on the Pro's DVDPlayer (vers.5.4) abd in my external Sony DVD Player  The dvd move was made/burned on a PC.   Why will a dvd movie play on my Macbook Pro and not my IMAC?

    Hello:
This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

  • All of a sudden my iDVD player doesn't want to burn 2-part movies or series. It says there is an error and says I have a blank dvd in the drive. What to do?

My idvd has stopped burning when it involves a 2-part movie or series. It starts alright but then stops and gives and error, not a code just says there was an error and the little box comes up that says I inserted a blank dvd and asks what I want to do. I need help with this and would really appreciate someone's experience.

Then I guess that the free space on Your Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk is less than 5Gb or worse - I never go under 25Gb when doing a DVD.
    To make a DiskImage
    • Start a new iDVD project (as there is an iDVD bug luring in old projects (closed one time))
    • Arrange all material: Movies, SlideShows and extras etc
    • Go up to File Menu - and down to Save as a DiskImage
(You need a minimum of 25Gb to let this work OK)
    • Then close iDVD
    • Double click on the .img file You just created on DeskTop
    • Start DVD-player tool (If it doesn't jump up in action by it self)
    • See that all plays as You want it to do
    • Close DVD-Player tool
    • Open Disk Util tool (Application folder / Tool folder)
    • Now to the left - select the .img file
    • Go up and click on BURN
    • When asked to do so - Insert a new DVD
    • NOW SELECT TO SET DOWN BURN SPEED TO x4 or x1 (as this gives a significantly better result)
    I Use
    • Verbatim
    • DVD-R
And get a very good result

  • How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs?

(Fifth futile attempt in two hours, before I learned there was a Post webpage – I’m new to ApSuppCom - and after I learned that I am not allowed to update previous content, so I had to back out, make a few changes, and start over.)  How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?  (Some other specs: Mac OS Lion 10.7.5; Capacity 499.5 GB;  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core  2 Duo; Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB)
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.” Advisors and Mac Geniuses at local Apple Stores have told me to try Roxio Toast.  When I visited the Roxio website, and found numerous other company products, the descriptions all seemed to suggest that most of the apps shown can easily export videos to DVDs, but nothing was said about finished digital slide shows being exported.  At future events soon,  I hope to be handing out these finished DVDs (free) to the people in them.   Any help will be greatly appreciated. A.Z.

How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?
Aperture cannot burn slideshows to a DVD.  It only can export a video of your slideshow.
In Aperture 3 you use the "Export" button in Aperture's slideshow project to render a video to a folder on your disk.
Then you use iDVD or another program to burn a video DVD.
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.”
Could you please describe the exact steps that are causing these error messages?
How are you exporting your slideshow from Aperture? Which settings are you using? And how are you importing the video to iDVD or Toast to burn a video DVD?

  • Problem getting blank DVDs to show up on desktop or in iTunes

    Hello,
I have been trying to burn playlists in itunes onto a blank dvd. I can burn CDs, but when I try to insert a blank DVD, it checks media and spits it back out. Neither will my MAC show the blank dvd on my desktop when I insert it outside of iTunes. I have an internal DVD drive and an external one....same story!!??
The very last time I tried to burn a DVD in iTunes, it started, but then I got some strange message about the spool running out?? I've never seen it before.
    My DVD drives are a Yamaha CRW2100E and a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-1600D
Also, the drive keeps opening and closing...with or without a DVD in it. Again...it works for CDS!!!
I have verified and repaired my preferences. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
    Thanks,
    John

Most likely your external DVD burner is causing a problem, disconnect it and reboot.
Try a different brand of media, handle only the edges.

  • MacBook DVD drive no longer recognizing blank DVDs

I thought I'd do some DVD archives of photos (using a Burn folder) and popped in a blank DVD (from a stack of blank DVDs that I've been using for a while).
Lo and behold this message popped up:
"The disc can’t be used because the disc drive is not supported (error code 0x80020025)"
I've done burning without problems on 10.5.x and this is the first time I've tried since upgrading to 10.6.
It seems to be a relatively common problem with no clear fix?

  • Blank DVD's no longer recognised

Since downloading the recent itunes 6.0.5 and quicktime 7.1.2 updates my mac no longer recognizes blank DVD's. Toast picks them up but then freezes eternally when trying to burn. Though Toast recognizes the media, no blank disk appears in the finder or on the desk top. I've never had any problem with this before, anybody have any ideas?
    CD's are fine.

  • What type of blank DVD should I use to record photo images that are on my drive E

I own a HP Pavilion dv5000 with an RW DVD + R DL multi recorder.  My question, which type of blank DVD should I use to record images that are on my drive E?  I can record without problems on a CR-R but when I try a blank DVD-R it won't work.  Please advise.

    Hi,
Back to the good old days, HP supported only DVD +R discs, some vendors supported DVD -R discs. Now all vendors support both. You may want to try blank DVD +R. Hope this works. Please post back the result.
    Regards.

  • DVD drive will not recognize blank DVDs after upgrade to Lion.

It finds burned DVD/CDs but not blank ones. Disk utility partially sees blank dvd, gives option to eject it, but will not allow eject it. Finder does not see it at all. have to restart to have it eject. Tried different DVD's (Manufactures and -R / +R, etc). Have followed recommendations on resets and have even reloaded the OS.  This problem started immediately after upgrade from snow lepoard to lion.

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?
I'll give it a shot in a few hours

    Hi
I have bundle blank DVD brand Imation but unfortunately my internal or external dvd writer would not recognize the disc. I have tried several times using Toast Titanium 6 and when i put the blank disc it says 'please put a blank disc. In fact, the disc i haven't use at all. Does it cause of my firmware or other related problem. Please help me. Thank you.

    Hi M Faza-
Since it is two different drives the first step is to try a different brand of discs.
Are the discs compatible? Did you but dual layer discs when in fact you have a single-layer burner? Are you putting the disc into the drive with the correct side down?

  • Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?

Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?
I've just completed a 140 minute project in FCP. I've encoded an MPEG2 file that is 5.75GB in size. Brought into DVDSP and am trying to burn the DVD.
I have Final Cut Studio 1, latest updates and everything.
Because of the 5.75GB size I need to burn to Dual Layer DVD. I have Verbatim 4x 8.56GB dual layer DVDs.
When I click buld/burn and pop in a dual layer DVD I get an error saying "please insert compatible disc".
Even with every app closed. If I put one of these DVDs in my Mac it simply spits it out after about 20 seconds.
For some reason the Mac won't handle or understand these Dual Layer DVDs.
I bought this Mac Pro about 4 months ago and it is the 2 x 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon machine and the DVD drive (according to system profiler) is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D. In system profiler it says "Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D"
Can anyone tell me if this DVD player is actually capable of dual layer, or do I need to buy one.
In System Profiler under Revision it says: AB09 and under Protocol it says: ATAPI
    Can anyone advise please?

If you have access to a pc into which you can install the 112, or if you have bootcamp, you can replace the Apple supplied firmware with Pioneer firmware. This should restore full functionality to the drive.
