Blank dvds rejected, movies can play

Blank disks of any sort are not recognized (this includes +r and -r and different brands, including the recommeded Verbatim) I have burned dvds and cds before. A movie on a commercial dvd plays just fine. If my superdrive is going bad, how come I can watch a movie from dvd, but when I go to burn a dvd, the drive spins and spits out the blank dvds.
PLEASE give me a constructive answer: the other answers I've seen posted do not satisfy me in that I don't believe I have a bad drive if I can still view a movie.

This is an update:
None of the suggestions worked so I ordered a usb superdrive from Amazon. I think I got the wrong thing, because "about my computer" recognized it but I can't do anything with the drive. It doesn't accept any disks it just spits them out. Apparently it is made for a macbook only???

im making a photo slide show using imovie. how will i make a dvd copy that can play in both pc and dvd player.  i dont have an idvd anymore. m using a mbp early 2011 osx 10.8.5.
after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie.  after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov.  i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players.  what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player.  can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export.  im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time.  please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto.  thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players.  thank you again for your reply *=)

  • Blank DVDs rejected? help

today i tried to put a DVD into my mac (powerbook G4 15") but after a couple of spins and some wierd noises it just got rejected and shot out. there is no error messages nothing. then i tried to use a cd which worked fine itunes popped up asking if i wanted to burn the songs but when i put in a dvd it doesn't work. i've tried 2 different kinds of DVDs both of which are new.
    heres the info from diagnostics
    MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8123:
    Firmware Revision: CA14
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
is it that it can read DVDs but not write them so it just rejects it?
    please help

You only have a combo drive (doesn't burn DVDs), so the drive doesn't know what to do with a blank DVD and just spits them out.

  • How do I put an iMovie project onto a DVD so i can play it on a TV?

I made an iMovie project, but there are some things that I just don't know how to do, like making a menu and putting it onto a DVD so it will play through my DVD player on the TV. Everytime I try, it always puts it into Quicktime format and I can only watch on my mac. How can I do this stuff?!

    Do you actually have iDVD?
    If you do:
A good guide to iDVD 7 can be found here:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/idvd_07_stone.html
Apple's tutorial on iDVD 07/08 is here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/idvd_08_getting_started.pdf
    If you don't:
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

  • Help :( DVD Drive will not read Blank DVDs but movie and data DVDs ok.

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
I know a lot may say it's a bad batch, but I bought a new batch, Memorex vs. Verbatim and nothing.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?
I'll give it a shot in a few hours

  • Does iDVD burn DVD's that can play in England?

imac G4 flat screen   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Yes.
    Makes region-free DVDs.
You can select PAL or NTSC. I understand most European DVD players can play either.

  • How do I burn an imovie to a DVD so I can play it on my TV DVD?

I burned it onto a dvd but it doesn't work because the file isn't recognized by my dvd player.  It's a MOV file.  I don't know how to save it in a format my dvd player will recognize.
    Thank you

I don't know how to save it in a format my dvd player will recognize.
    I do!
    Use iDVD.
IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk ONLY as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

i got the same problem now! working fine a couple of days ago and now i cant burn any DVDs anymore. My laptop is 5 months old.. i am getting sick of this laptop, it feels like something is always broken but after awhile (approx. 1 month) an update fixes it, but to destroy something else. So, i guess i will have to wait a month or two until i can burn DVDs again...Seriously, PC Laptops are more stable than this worthless laptop.. and this user forum *** aswell.. no one from Mac reads it and there are not many solutions in here ..only complaints like my message here....
    customer relations: very bad
customer satisfaction: medium but getting worse
    support: ****!
    loyalty to mac: getting lower

  • I inserted a blank dvd and now I can't get it to eject

I inserted a blank DVD +R; I can't get it to eject using the keyboard.  The finder window does not show the DVD.

Reboot holding the mouse button down, which should cause the DVD to eject.

  • HT1657 Am I able to download a movie I purchased onto a blank DVD?

I want to purchase This is the End, but I'm wondering if I can burn it onto a blank DVD like I can with songs onto a CD.

If you mean a data DVD for storage and transport, yes.
If you mean a video DVD for playback outside of iTunes, no.

  • Blank DVD will not load so that I can burn to it

    Hello,
I have been trying to burn playlists in itunes onto a blank dvd. I can burn CDs, but when I try to insert a blank DVD, it checks media and spits it back out. Neither will my MAC show the blank dvd on my desktop when I insert it outside of iTunes. I have an internal DVD drive and an external one....same story!!??
The very last time I tried to burn a DVD in iTunes, it started, but then I got some strange message about the spool running out?? I've never seen it before.
I have verified and repaired my preferences. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
    Thanks,
    John

    John,
what kind of DVD? Plus or Minus?
If using Plus media try to switch to Minus.
btw. what kind of drive came with your Mac?

  • What program do i need for making dvds I can play in a dvd player

what program do i need for making dvds that i can play in a dvd player?

    iDVD.
Apple no longer sells it. Buy any version of iLife from your favourite software vendor. iLife 11, 09, and 08 all contain the same version of iDVD.
When you get the disc install only iDVD, then update it here:
    iDVD 7.1.2

  • Super drive doesnt recognize BLANK DVD-R

I can watch dvd movies but cannot burn anything on a blank dvd-r because the driver do not recognize blank dvd-r. what can it be?

If you've tried different DVD discs from different DVD packs, and all discs will not allow you to burn, then it's most likely a faulty drive. Hopefully you still have a warranty.??

    My DVD drives are a Yamaha CRW2100E and a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-1600D
Also, the drive keeps opening and closing...with or without a DVD in it. Again...it works for CDS!!!
I have verified and repaired my preferences. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
    Thanks,

Most likely your external DVD burner is causing a problem, disconnect it and reboot.
Try a different brand of media, handle only the edges.
