Blank Emails with Attachments from Apple Mail if received into Gmail IMAP.

I have noticed that if I receive an email with an attachment from someone using Apple Mail to my Gmail IMAP account (in Apple Mail) the body of the text is blank. I get the attachment but the only way to read the body of the email is to show the Raw Source. Has anyone else had the same problem and does anyone have a solution?

Not me and I use gmail's IMAP service with Apple Mail frequently. You're probably better off posting this question on google's gmail forum which you can get to via the help section on the gmail.com web site.

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. This person receiving my email, while on a Mac with Safari is reading their mail through Safari using Horde--our recent discovery. Why they chose to do that in unclear. The last email we sent, however, was miraculously read and received and the attachment was viewed with no problem after we told them our mail was coming from a Mac thriugh Apple Mail. It seems that telling them that our emails were coming from a Mac and using Apple Mail was enough to make them think that perhaps THEY were doing something not quite right. Try copying the whold SD card to your desktop by holding down the Option key and dragging the SD card icon about 2 inches away from the where the card sits on the desktop. This should trigger Mac OS to make a copy of the whole SD card onto your Macintosh's desktop. Once it finishes from there, eject the SD card. Reboot your Mac then open iMovie without launching any other programs whatsoever. Go to the File Menu Import Movies from File... And point it at the copy of the SD card and see if it crashes again.

Unable to move email with attachments from local folders to icloud

I'm in the process of migrating my email to icloud. I've been able to move all emails without attacments from local folders to the cloud but evrytime I try to move emails with attachments I get one of two errors, either the imap server times out or it's unable to establish a secure connection (SSL).
Anyone else come across this or point me in the right direction.
And yes - I have been searching Google all afternoon and have not been able to find anything.

I do not have an answer to your problem but am interested in following this thread because I would like to get off the Mail application and do everything in iCloud. My problem is I have a ton of messages in Mail folders, on my MacAir. I don't know how to get them to iCloud folders. At this point I keep the attachments in folders on the HD so I don't need the attachments to come but I do need the message.

Attachments in Apple Mail not received by addressee. Same attachment sent via Google mail received ok. Why?

I sometime need to send attachments such as pegs to a Uscg.mil address. The attachments do not show up to the addressee, and it is probably due to a security firewall on the military side. However, the same attachment goes through fine if sent using web mail (Gmail). There must be some difference in the way Apple embeds an attachment that causes it to be rejected by the military security firewall. Any thoughts on this?

Apple Mail 3.2 and GMail IMap

Yes, I know this topic has been discussed on this forum before, but I have not 100% been able to put the pieces together.
I can get Apple Mail 3.2 running Gmail via IMAP with no problem by following the instructions on the google site:

Then I set my account as directed by Google for recommended account settings:

I am able to send and receive email. But I see some quirks:
1. When I send a message, it is not stored in the Apple Mail "Sent" box. It just remains empty. Why?
2. When I sent my first message the "Store Sent Messages on the Server" became checked even though I unchecked it during account setup. Why?
3. If I have multiple gmail accounts that I set up in Apple Mail 3.2, will they all be under one Apple Mail 3.2 "Inbox" combined?

Hello Hal:
I think you will get a better answer to your question by contacting G-mail. In my case, I use AOL mail in Apple's mail application. AOL catches the vast majority of spam/junk and it is placed in a spam folder. The few that get through seem to be trapped by Apple's mail and placed in the Junk folder.

Problem Using Apple MAIL to receive/send gmail

I set up MAIL to receive/send gmail yesterday. It seemed to work fine. However, in trying to send e-mail this morning I keep getting an error: cannot send using pop.gmail or smpt.gmail or whatever...I have deleted POP accounts I had (carolina.rr.com) because I no longer have that service. Should I set up MAIL with a POP rather than an IMAP??? Does it make a difference which formula I use? MAIL is v.2.1.3.

Klaus1, I followed those instructions for an IMAP set up. It worked fine yesterday. However, this morning when I tried to send e-mails from MAIL it said it couldn't send them via gmail server. I went into Preferences and made sure that all POP in/out servers were deleted (carolina.rr.com via timewarner) so there could be no confusion: Just the IMAP info remains. I have two e-mails parked in the outbox because everytime I try to send them I get that same error message.

Try looking in your User folder.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Having just moved from Entourage to Apple Mail on an Exchange back-end, everything is running smoothly except for one thing - when I copy emails that include quotes from replies (i.e. those coloured vertical lines down the left of the message) and paste them into other applications (Word, TextEdit, etc.) these indentations are not preserved, and instead each line starts at the left margin. This makes following interleaved conversations in the pasted document very difficult. It's as though Mail allows me to copy the view onto the message, rather than the source of the message (I believe that Mail simply reinterprets the '>' quote indentations for presentation, but retains these in the stored message).
How can I restore copying of quote indentation in Apple Mail for pasting in other documents?

You will need Pages or a sjmilar word processing program for this, TextEdit doesn't appear to be capable. Using Pages:
Open your message. From the 'View' Menu choose "Message>Raw Source'.
Copy the body of the message.
Paste into a Pages Word Processing blank template.
Open Find, click 'Advanced'.
Set 'Find' to '>' (no quotes)
Set 'Replace' to tab (select from the 'Insert' drop-down menu)
Click 'Replace All'.
Set 'Find' to '=20' (no quotes)
Set 'Replace' to a single space.
Click 'Replace all'.
Obviously this will lose the colours which identify the level of quotes but you will have the indentation.

How do I restore email and drafts from Apple Mail in Time Machine after account was deleted.

My Apple Mail email account was deleted by a support person and I lost several hundred emails and close to 1100 drafts that I desperately need. I have been using an external drive for backing up in Time Machine.
I do not know how to get my emails and drafts out of Time Machine and onto my Apple drive.

Command-R to the rescue.
Just hold down Command-R during startup and Lion Recovery springs into action. It lets you choose from common utilities: You can run Disk Utility to check or repair your hard drive, erase your hard drive and reinstall a fresh copy of Lion, or restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup. You can even use Safari to get help from Apple Support online. And if Lion Recovery encounters problems, it will automatically connect to Apple over the Internet.
When boot into Recovery and select item 1, you will be given a choice of a point to recover from.

I have to solve that problem here and our major java freak is on holidays. So I'm countin on u guys ;)!
I've a sort of datasheet that dynamically created into a PDF file. Now this PDF file shouldn't only be available for download, which it is already, but to be able to send it anywhere via email.
Is there something nice I can use for creating an email with attachment and sending it to the world ??

Posting this as it took me forever to find the fix. No one with my carrier, Apple etc. seemed to know of the fix or for that matter even recognize that it was an issue. Hopefully this will help someone else. This is for Exchange 2010
Log on to the Exchange server hosting OWA
start run cmd, right click on the cmd and choose run as adminsitrator

Note that 1600000 should be the size of the allowed email in bytes.

every time i try to send a e mail with an attachment from my alo mail account i get message that says that there is a technical problem and to resend later, i have tried several times at different times during the day as well as at night

I tapped it and it said it sent but then it stored a copy in my outbox. Weird thing is that the receiving party said they got the email but it still sits in my outbox?? so weird.
