Blank File Icons in Small List View

Hi,
I got an annoying problem with my Mac.
In Finder, it's not going to show the right icons while I'm in the small list view.
If I switch to the bigger list view or the symbol view, everything appears correct.
I just reinstalled Yosemite but it's still be there.
I attached some screenshots.
I hope you can help me.

    My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

    The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
    Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

  • Small List View

    I want to keep the Swatch Panel in "Small List View". How can I change that in the Windows version of Illustrator CS3. I see a few fixes in the mac forum. Is a similar file available for editing in windows?

    I don't have AI 13 (CS3), but there is an analogous file (AIWSPrefs) in AI 12 Win. Try looking for it in this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\{your logon user name}\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings\Workspaces
    The above assumes C: is your system bootup drive.
    You can always try a Windows search for 'AIWSPrefs.'
    I do not know whether the modifications suggested for the Macintosh versions will produce the desired results in the Windows version.
    Pull off a copy of the file to your desktop or other location before you start messing around with a text editor.

  • How do I show what folders files are in in list view? MacGenius NO help.

    I recently went to the Natick Mall Mac Store to see a MacGenuis. I had two issues. The first was whether it is possible to view what files my documents and photos are in in list view, as I used to be able to view on my PC. The MacGenius tried to sell me a one-on-one lesson. When I asked how a lesson would help if it was not a possiblity, he told me to right click each document or photo to get that information. That is exactly the cumbersome, time consuming an inefficient process I was trying to avoid. I asked if he was aware of any third party software that could provide that function, and he said no.
    A little more research on my own shows that if you put your cursor on the item, the information shows up in the bar at the bottom of the finder screen. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but certainly more efficient and quicker than right clicking on each individual item, and I can at least toggle back and forth to compare documents and photos in multiple locations so I can delete those no longer needed without having to worry about doing an extra step and moving docs in and out of individual folders to re-consolidate them and delete uneccessary copies. (I have extras because I do legal work and have to keep copies of all items submitted in a single court filing together, but may need the same photos or docs in other court filings, which also have their own folders so I have a complete set of what was filed in each filing).
    Shouldn't the MacGenius have known about this function as an option for finding folders? He also told me I could not back up my computer on a disk I had previously used for a back up because the new back up would wipe out everything previously backed up.
    I also asked him about the whirling colored circle which I seem to be getting a lot of lately. He "checked" my computer and determined that I need a new battery (mine had slightly over 450 cycles, according to him) and my hard drive is failing. All could be repaired for a little over $300. I was told I could not do the repair myself, it had to be done by a Mac technician, and that the parts could only be purchased at the Mac store and they don't sell the parts except to Mac technicians.
    I was dubious, only because the MacGenius was consistently unhelpful and consistently tried to sell me items. I did stop and look at some PCs, figuring if my Mac was on its way out I would back up my docs and photos to a new PC and save a ton of time and money because I could consolidate on the PC which would show what folders my docs and photos were in - and use the PC for a backup drive until the Mac dies.
    I got Tech Tool Pro 6 and ran the diagnostics. All of which contradicted what the MacGenius told me, and gives me multiple options for backups without having to buy multiple backup drives for fear of having prior backups overwritten. So I don't need a new computer, I have an acceptable, altho less than desirable, way of telling what folders my items are in, and Tech Tool's optimization fixed the whirling "wait" cirle.
    The only thing left is to ask if anyone has a hint or knows of software available that will in list (or other) view what folders my docs are in.
    Except to ask, has anyone else experienced such disappointing help and annoying upsell from a MacGenius? In all fairness, the few times in the past that I have been helped by a MacGenius, they were extremely helpful and didn't try to sell me anything (altho my computer was new and still under warranty).

    Customize the Finder window toolbar, adding the Path icon to it. Select an item and click on the Path icon or, as you already know, add path to the window. There's also copypath.app available via the App Store.

  • Files not displaying in list view?

    I recently upgraded my MacPro (early 2008 8core) from Snow Leopard (10.6.8)  to Lion.
    At first i wanted to do a fresh install on my machine but soon realised it wasnt possible to import old accounts from another internal drive so i opted to upgrade the system instead.
    After doing so I was faced with an odd problem of files not displaying in my finder windows when switching through internal drives or changing from 'file view' to 'list view' or 'column view' etc...
    The attached screenshots were taken in sequence youll also note that the path bar & top window name dont update either.
    The relevant drives are in healthy condition with several tests run over them to ensure their healthy(Disk Utility & Drive Genius). I have also run permissions repair, and a utility to empty cahces etc (OnyX). From what i can see its possibly something to do with the Finder not updating or refreshing the window? The issue seems to be isolated to the drives however intermittently the problem exists deeper into the directory on 'TerraTank' Volume.
    The finder also crashes semi-frequently and the problem seems to dispaear for a while and revealing the contents of these volumes for a few mins.
    I have also checked activity monitor to see if any particular process was going haywire and all seemed relativly normal.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Regards,
    JP

    Onyx may be causing problems.  Don't use it on a non-backed up system, as cleaning caches may damage them, and make things not work.    Make sure your Spotlight indexes all drives you wish to be searchable.  Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Spotlight and add each hard drive to the Privacy section, and then remove it again.  Then click on the Spotlight menu every half hour to see when it stops saying that it is indexing.  It might take a few hours.  But once done, it should be fixed.

  • How to display default file icon in Swing listing?

    Hi All,
    I am developing an application where I need to display all the files under a specific folder. But I need to list the files along with their default icon. Also, I need to open that file on clicking (or double clicking) on that file icon.
    I am not able to understand how to do that. I am able to list the files in the GUI, but the rest -- I have no clue how to do it.
    Any help/pointer on how to do that would be great for me.
    Thanks in advance...

    FileSystemView fsv = FileSystemView.getFileSystemView();
    Icon icon = fsv.getSystemIcon(myFile);As for opening a file on the double-click, assuming you're using a JList, just add a MouseListener/MouseAdapter to your list, and respond to the click events:
    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {
      if(e.getClickCount() == 2) {
        int index = list.locationToIndex(e.getPoint());
        list.ensureIndexIsVisible(index);
        ListModel dlm = list.getModel();
        Object item = dlm.getElementAt(index);
        // Open the file represented by "item".
    }If you need to open the file using the system's default application for that file, use Desktop.open(File).

  • Sub-Folder View Icons Missing in List View (Finder)

    Since upgrading to Lion, the arrows in Finder for viewing sub folders has disappeared from Finder in list view and cover flow. At first, I just figured it was another nice feature of OS X they decided to kill off, but I was looking at my boyfriend's computer, and his still has the triangle icons, and he's using Lion.
    I've tried a few things to try to fix it, but nothing seems to help. Using the Command + right arrow key combination causes some weird glitch folders to appear below the folder I'm trying to view the contents of. The names of those folders is always stuff like "Folders", "Applications", "PDF Documents", among others. Here's a screenshot of my Finder view, and those odd folders:
    Does anyone know how to fix these issues? Thank you for any replies. =)

    Wow, Woolgatherer was right on on this one! What was bugging me, besides not having the up/down sort arrow buttons in the columns, was I was backwards on the arrangement. In essence, when I had the arrangement in "Kind," the items were from "z to a" instead of "a to z." The arrangement view is nice to look at, because it separates the types of items into groups, but you can not reverse the order quickly.
    If you do as Woolgatherer says, and turn off the "Arrange by" to none, and then the folders display the up/down arrows to go in alphabetical order from top to bottom or bottom to top. Once you toggle the header arrow, then you can actually go back to "Arrange by" to "Kind," and it is in the opposite order. What I mean by this, if you sort from the header "a to z" and then go to the Arrange by "Kind," it is now in the order of "z to a." This is very weird.

  • When only one product in a catalogue, how to skip product small list view to go to Product detail

    If I have only one product in a catalogue, how can I tell BC to skip the product list view and go straight to the product large view?
    For example.
    I would like to be able to click on 'Office Suites' on this page:
    http://bevisco.businesscatalyst.com/products
    Have BC skip this catalogue list view page:
    http://bevisco.businesscatalyst.com/products/office-suites
    and instead go straight to this page:
    http://bevisco.businesscatalyst.com/products/office-suites/office-suites-1
    Has anyone managed to achieve this? I want it like it happens here for the 'bookcases' catalogue: http://www.bevisco.com.au/Products/Storage.aspx
    Would love it if anyone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

    Hi,
    In your online shop layouts, the individual catalog layout will look something like this:
    <div class="category-list-item">
    <strong>{tag_name}</strong>
    <div class="visual">{tag_image}</div>
    <div class="visual">{tag_browsepanel}</div>
    </div>
    In the frontend, the "category-list-item" div will contain a separate list item for each product. What you can do is use a script to count the number of <li>s in  that div and if that number is 1, get the href  attribute from that product and navigate to that page.
    Kind Regards,
    Alex

  • Finder list view name column keeps resizing!

    I mainly use list view in Finder, and I mainly use windows (as opposed to fullscreen) because I like dragging and dropping between them (dragging and dropping in fullscreen with tabs is rather cumbersome).
    Anyway, the name column keeps resizing on me, going from what I have it set to (usually double-clicked to make it fit all filenames) to suddenly being small enough that all the other columns fit in the window without a horizontal scroll bar. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Yosemite and happens every time I open a new Finder window, expand a folder, move a file, etc. It's incredibly frustrating!
    I was surprised to not find much about this problem mentioned around the web, so I imagine it must be some setting or something specific to my machine. Any help in figuring out how to make it stop doing this would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Sorry, no, preferences in the sense of what I prefer, but I believe view options (command J) are stored in DS_Store files, as well as list view column data, such as date added, date modified, name, kind, size, etc (except for some folders such as network, computer and meetingroom/airdrop?) which are stored in com.apple.finder.plist).  You probably know that you can select which columns display in view options.  Perhaps a temporary workaround would be to switch off other visible columns to display only name or name and one other preferred column to increase space available.  However, myself and another suspect this the problems I described as a bug, and I would have to think your issue is part of that bug.  It seems all related, no? For example, in my Downloads folder, I select to hide "Date Modified", show "Date Added", and arrange by "Date Added".  Maybe it will still show if I close the window and reopen the Downloads folder, maybe it will not, maybe it will change completely to Icon View despite have "always open in list view" being selected in view options.  In any case, after a restart, it will revert back to list view, with "Date Modified" showing and being arranged by "Name".

  • Finder list view difficulty

    I prefer to use the List View in the Finder but I find one aspect of this interface particularly annoying. That is, if an item is highlighted (as it usually is) and one needs to scroll down or up to locate another item, the Finder keeps returning the focus to the item that is highlighted. This can be improved by pressing the escape key (to un-highlight the original item) but I usually forget to do this until the offending refocusing has already occurred. Does anyone have a workflow or suggestion as to how to avoid this problem.
    OK, I know this sounds trivial but I am a developer who uses the Mac for several hours a day and am constantly locating code files in deeply embedded folder structures (probably several hundred times a day). I am hoping to smooth out this user interface experience.

  • How do I switch to list view in the Pages local directory

    How can I switch from a grid of file icons to a list of filenames in Pages for iPad ?

    I don't believe there is no way to change views. It's something that I wish was there to reduce the real estate taken by these icons.

  • HT4946 "List View" in Calendar!!??!?!?!?

    Am I the only one who wants "List View" back in the new Calendar App?!?!??  This is sooooo frustrating!  In iOS7 when it was only available under the "search" option, that was annoying.  But now, with iOS7.1, Apple has removed it all together!!!

    Thank you for your nice reply. Well, I didn't realize this particular thread was about this List View problem in the iPhone -- I've spent about half an hour reading similar complaints in other threads about iOS 7 in general.
    The Search icon is a Search icon, not a List View icon for the List View function. The Search icon annoyingly opens up the keyboard, which I don't need to have a look (View) of upcoming events. Secondly, the pseudo list view that appears does NOT code the events by calendar color.
    I bet you a 128GB iPad Air that this limitation is annoying to, yes, thousands of iPad users. It's not arrogance, it's purely statistics, since there are literally millions of iOS 7 users in the world.
    Briefly, instead of restoring a very simple List View option, what Apple is telling thousands of customers is: "You don't NEED a list view in your iPad anymore. But if you believe you do, click on an icon which is not for a list, but for Search, and which will open a keyboard that you don't need, close the keyboard, and try to guess which calendar the events that will appear belong to --  personal, professional, holidays... you name it!  However (Apple continues) if you have an iOhone, you DO NEED a specific icon for an event list. Or, else, waste your time trying to find a roundabout way to do what a few months ago, in the Old Times of iOS 6, you used to do with a click".
    That's Apple's (il)logic for its mistakes, and the rest is just justifications.

  • How to add custom columns to the list view in Finder

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to view additional file details in the list view in Finder, for example audio bit rate, so I don't have to do "Get Info" for each file separately. I couldn't find a way to add columns other than the ones listed on the view options dialog.
    Can anyone help me find a way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Tal

    Have you checked the Help menu for what you want to do? I found this in Apple support - List View Options
    Check the AppleScript Forums. There is probably a script that you can use.
