Blank icon appearing in applications folder
Hi,
I recently installed Skype and Miro Video Player on my iMac. Whilst installing, it asked me to click and drag the icon into the applications folder, which I did, and I heard the notification sound as if it was a success.
However, when I opened the applications folder on the dock bar thing at the bottom of my screen, the new programme was there without the icon. Just a no entry circle.
If I click that icon, the programme opens properly and the correct icon even appears in the dock bar at the bottom, but still the application folder has no icon!
Its not a major problem, but is very frustrating!! I don't want to install any more programmes until its sorted.
Can anyone help???
Thanks
Phil
Try these; one may work.
1) Do a Get Info on the program in the Applications folder. Is the icon shown in the upper right of the Get Info window the correct one?
If it is the correct one, then click on it to select it and then press Command-C (Copy) followed by Command-V (Paste). If that fixed the icon on the application, you're done.
If it is not the correct one, then click it to select it, then open the Edit menu - if the item Clear is available (not grayed out) select it. If that fixed the icon on the application, you're done.
2) The icon shown on the Dock is an alias. Since it shows the correct icon, try making an alias to the program that's resident in the Applications folder.
If that alias displays the correct icon, copy its icon and then paste it onto the original program using the Get Info windows for each.

Mavericks doesn't appear in application folder, how can I get it there?
Mavericks doesn't appear in application folder, how can I get it there?
It is downloaded. I can see it in Launchpad, when I click on it will open en start the installation, but that's not what I want, I want to have the program in the application folder. I hope someone knows how?Click the installer in Launchbar so it opens, don't proceed with the installation!
Look in your Dock for the installers Application icon.
Command+Click this icon in the Dock
A Finder window should appear with the installer selected, you can 'Get Info' on that item to see the full file path to work out where it is, or enable the 'Path bar' in Finder's view menu, that also shows the folder path to the selected item.
If you are hoping to install 10.9 on another Mac you may find it is best to create a bootable installer on a USB disk…

Or use Apple's instructions…

The new Foxfire version was downloaded into my download folder but I was never prompted, as it said I would be , so move the Foxfire icon into the applications folder. Therefore I do not know where the process stands. It old icon in my dock upgraded or has nothing happeded. It seems as if the process somehow just stopped in the middle.
Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.
As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

I am following the instructions to download v 6 but receive no prompt to move the Firefox icon to the applications folder. I have done that anyway, but it's not saving-the latest version is July 11. I then get reminders to update all the time-what am I doing wrong?
I am working on a Mac laptopA lot of people panic when they see Photoshop displaying differently from other software. But that's normal and expected. Here's what happens:
1. Photoshop is color managed and performs a document profile > monitor profile conversion when it displays. So whatever the document profile is, Photoshop will display correctly - unless you have CM policies set to "off" (...!)
2. Other applications, including many web browsers, aren't color managed and will just send the file numbers directly to the display. This distinction is extremely important, because there will be a slight difference. Again, that's normal. Photoshop is right and the other apps are wrong.
3. Without color management, it all hangs on how your monitor displays color. Most monitors are so close to sRGB that any sRGB file will display roughly correctly. This is why sRGB is the de facto web standard: it can live without color management. And that's why you should always convert web material to sRGB. Yes, that's the Edit > Convert to Profile option. You can also use Save For Web to do this if you check the appropriate boxes. -
I am running system 10.5.8 on my 17" mac pro laptop and using Firefox 3.6.17, I have tried on several occasions to install your new version 4 and when I drag icon onto my applications folder it tells me I have a newer version already there (which is now the 3.6.17). What is going on?
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com -
When I try to put the updated Firefox icon into my applications folder, I see this message:
The operation can’t be completed because the item “libsoftokn3.dylib” is in use.
I have closed all apps and don't understand what this refers to.

I have installed the application to my applications folder and everything else is working perfectly. But normally, after you've installed a browser, the istallation disk icon that appears on your desktop can be ejected or deleted without detriment. Mine keeps coming back...
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

FireFox Icon Missing in Applications Folder
After I upgraded to Leopard I reinstalled FireFox. I uninstalled it first, then when I reinstalled it, the FireFox icon was missing when I open the Applications Grid from the Dock.
If I view the applications folder using Finder, the small FireFox icon is to the left of "FireFox" as it should be, but when the applications folder is open with view set to Grid, the FireFox icon is some generic icon with slashed circle on it.
FireFox works just fine, and the correct FireFox icon is in my dock, but just missing from the applications folder grid view. Thanks for any help.
LarryMcJRestart the dock to fix these issues.
