Blank library

Every time I close and open iTunes I have no music in my library. The music file are not deleted because they are still found in my music folder. I have Tried the Fix detailed on the Support Website over the Updating Problem but it Solved nothing. This problem Seams to have nothing to do with any of the updates because no matter how many times I re-add all of my Stuff. as soon as I turn off my computer or most times even close down iTunes, they are all gone again. I have tried completely reinstalling iTunes many times, once even purging it from my system. removing everything that had any thing to do with iTunes, still I have the same problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution, but it may be that Vista Hates iTunes. Help me out please!?!?!

Welcome to AD!
It's your Vaio. Sony has installed some software on it that conflicts with itunes.
Here are some older topics on that

I cannot see my history. When I click on the history icon in the toolbar I get a blank library window. The we address suggests things when I start to type, but I'm not sure if it's history or bookmards.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • IPhoto '09 not working at all - blank library on launch

I purchase and upgraded my iLife package to 09 on 02-04. Upon upgrading and first launch of iPhoto I was met by a complete blank library.
I I have been on the phone with Apple for at least 4 hours. They had me remove all my preferences. That did solve the problem but it came back 2 weeks later. I am not about to do this again because I had to reconfigure every preference for every application which took a very long time. I can use iPhoto on another user account but doesn't make it very convenient. I have moved to Aperture but would like to get iPhoto working again. Turning off Helvetica Neue didn't work (iPhoto does hate Hel Neue).
If anybody figures out a way without having to archive and install, please advise!

Here's how to narrow it down to which preference file:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Itunes will not create a blank library, it creates a new library with all of my same content from the other library. I followed the instructions but itunes will not give me a blank library???

I have looked up how to create the new blank itunes library and every site has the same copy and pasted instructions. They are simple but have no troubleshooting solutions. It creates my wifes new library with all of the same content from my library. How can I make the whole thing blank so I can sync her new device without putting all of my stuff on there?

Having opened the supposedly blank library go to Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. Should clear things up.

  • Can't Create new BLANK Library in iTunes 11

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.  Since iTunes 11,  I can no longer create a new BLANK library; without in seconds it begins to fill up with songs from my main library.  With iTunes 10.7 I could create a new BLANK library and  then fill it with all Beatles; or Dylan; or whatever.
I don't see the point of creating a new library any more.  I was told by Apple Care that it all has to do with the CLOUD.  Give me back the right to create a new BLANK library.  By the way I did it online so my Apple Care person could see it fill up.  She saiid in iTunes 11 I would have to sign out; in order to get blank library. That's pretty inconvenient. Any thoughts PLEASE.
    Thank You.

Jim, thanks for such a quick reply.  I'll I give it a try.  I came from a Windows background using 10.7 and the cloud wasn't a problem at the time; until iTunes  11 came out for both platforms.  Thanks again.  Im loving the iMac and your answer will make it a better experience.   You should work for Apple Care

  • New iPhoto not working at all - blank library on startup

I just upgraded my iLife package to 09 and must admit that I've never experienced this much trouble in my 15 years as an apple.
First of all: Upon upgrading and first launch of iPhoto I was met by a complete blank library. I quickly checked all my preferences and while clicking around my Events and Librarys appeared in iPhoto though I'm unable to open any Events and generally nothing's working.
I've tried trashing my preferences and reinstalling. I've made sure that everything is up to date. Still I met by the same blank screen. Furthermore it seems I cannot quit iPhoto and I have to force-quit the application.
While looking for a solution I tried "iPhoto Library Manager" - but no luck there either. It was unable yo rebuild the library, what seems to be the obvious solution. As far as I know, there no way to rebuild the new iPhoto 8 (09) Library...???
Anyone have a solution to my troubles.
    Thx

Hmm it seems I cannot go back to iPhoto 08 without making a complete restore. I'm not ready to try that and risk trouble in other applications (Adobe packages etz). By the way I upgraded both iLife and iWorks at the same time.
The rebuild didn't help att all it seems. The problem is the same. Blank iPhoto until I click around in the preferences, then all librarys and events suddenly appear. But they're all completely useless. Still no access to individual pictures inside Events. I can open Events in a new window and look through the photos but that's it...
I did this upgrade on my MacPro. Luckily my "real" photos are on my MacBookPro, but I don't think I will try upgrading before i find a solution...
    Any ideas are most welcome.

  • Blank library window!!!

    Hi all,
I'm using Captivate 4 and have a project that is totalling around 15Mb in size, with 51 slides, containing various Flash animations, images, sounds and an imported PowerPoint slideshow at the start.
About halfway through creating the project (I can't remember exactly when, sorry!) the Library window stopped working properly - whenever I open the library window I just get a blank window.  By that I mean there is no list within the window, no buttons, no controls whatsoever, just a plain window with a title, border and X-button in the top right corner.
Can anyone shed any light as to why this may be happening?  I have a number of unused files that I really want to get rid of, but I can't until the Library window starts working properly, unless anyone knows of another way?
    Thanks for any help!

Okay, I've got access to the library now as a docked window within the main Captivate program window, but as a standalone floating window it's still blank...
Not such an emergency now, but perhaps still a bug that Adobe need to be aware of.

  • Itunes blank, library wont import

    dear community,
i use a PC with Vista. when i upgraded to itunes 8.1 i was unable to record CDs or watch DVDs so at the suggestion of other users, i removed 8.1 and went back to 7.1. however my library could not be opened because it was created with a previous version. i found the library folder and tried to drag and drop into itunes 7.1 but it won't drop. the music shows up in a folder by alpha order. there is also a music data file (itl). i've tried dragging and dropping both files but it wont work. i tried moving one song to see if that would work and it did! however, it says i have to give it permission to play on my computer. i can't imagine clicking and dragging over 500 songs one at at time and then having to give each one permission to play!! any suggestions on what i'm doing wrong? PLEASE?

Quit trying to move the ITL file. You're right, it won't drag and drop into iTunes. It's not designed for that.
You need to use the shift-start to open itunes using that ITL file from version 7.
Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes. Choose that ITL file when prompted.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
That article says itunes 8.1 but it still work in itunes 7

  • Post V 8.2 upgrade will not open without creation of new blank library file

    Hello to all.
Any suggestions with regard to the following ?
Since upgrading to V8.2, iTunes will only open after having removed the library file, and letting the application create a fresh new library file, then reimporting all media files.
This must be done EVERY TIME iTunes is restarted; otherwise the application just refuses to open... So yes, I've been leaving iTunes running!
I took the TIME to embed all album artwork... I have no idea if that might be causing the problem (in the case of non-popular music, the iTunes store is so far not capable of corrctly matching artwork to album.
This is a very large but simple and well managed library (100% music, all in Apple Lossless); all media files are managed by iTunes and are in one location.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
    Rex

I'm answering my own post here for the benefit of those who may be having the same issues (see previous post).
    1) Get comfortable and start by reading this a couple times:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
2)Embed all artwork; I did it the hard way, but now know it can be done via a script from Doug (scorll down):
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php
3)Ask iTunes to consolidate your library to a location other than within the iTunes folder (Do not do this via the back door! See iLounge article in first link).
4)Completely uninstall iTunes as instructed here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224
Do exactly as instructed, making sure your media files have FIRST been moved via consolidation to a location outside all iTunes folders. Finish with a Spotlight search for "iTunes"... Get rid of everything including the icon in the dock.
Optional step: At this point you may want to verify the master drive and possibly repair permissions using Disk Utilities... I did.(To do this, start from the original OS install CD/DVDs... Insert disk, restart while holding down "C"; once booted, go to the Edit or File menu at top of screen and select "Disk Utility", first aid, etc).
5)Download a fresh copy of the latest version of iTunes and install it (V8.2.1 in my case).
6)Once iTunes is running, set the location of media files in iTunes advanced prefs to correspond to where your media is physically stored (see iLounge article in link above).
7)Go through and reset all iTunes prefs (they will have been tossed out with the uninstall).
8)Import media from within the iTunes user interface (via the pull down menu at the top left of the iTunes screen... See iLounge article). If your library is well sorted, you can do it all in one go, by simply selecting the main folder containing all media files (verify by importing just the work of one artist for starters). Large, high-res libraries will take a while... The final phase of the process is the automatic loading of all embedded artwork.
    That's it.
From here on out, every time you import new media, manually embed the art work as follows :
1)Once imported, start one of the album tracks playing so the artwork will appear (see step 3).
2)Select all the tracks in the album to which you want to add the iTunes artwork.
3)In the bottom left-hand corner click on ’show/hide artwork’
4)Right-click on the artwork image that is displayed and select ‘copy’
5)Now right-click on the tracks you’ve highlighted and select ‘Get info’
6)In the pop-up box that right-click in the artwork field and select ‘paste’
    Done.
    Peace,
    Rex

  • Unloading music from iPod into a blank library?

I just made a new library for myself and I want the music that's in my iPod onto that library. The easy solution appears to be syncing the two, but in the warning box is says that the music from the library will replace the music from my iPod, so it will probably clear my iPod completely. Now i'm clueless.
On iTunes 6 I would drag the music from my iPod onto the library file manually but there isn't a seperate list for the music on the docked iPod anymore. Please help!
The old library and the new library are both on the same computer, if that helps.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you want to continue using the iPod with multiple libraries you'll have to keep it in manual mode, you can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. Otherwise when you've loaded the new library you can return the iPod to syncing automatically: Using iPod with Multiple computers or libraries
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Regards
    TD

  • How do I transfer music from my old iPod classic to my new computer with a blank iTunes library?

I have over 700 songs on my iPod classic, a movie, and a few shows.
My old computer, which is totally fried, has my whole library.
My new computer has a blank library.
