Blank photos iPhoto Book

Hello,
I made a book a while ago, and when I went to look at it again, I noticed that some of the places where there are supposed to be pictures are blank, yet they are in the 'viewer' section, above where the pictures to the book go. Can anyone help with why this might be happening, and how I can prevent it from happening again? It's a few pages, where all of a sudden, just blank empty spaces...thanks!

sounds like you deleted or moved the file from the picture original library.
home\pictures\lib.....
I just did it. so how do I FIX the missing links all at once in iphoto or am I going to delete each preview individually. better make some coffee. The library deal has me confused a bit. dont like to lose stuff.

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork.  Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary.  Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto.  From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

  • "Missing" photos in IPhoto Book

I have a number of IPhoto books I've made over the years and when I go back to them in my ILibrary, there are a number of gray spots where photos should be. The gray spots only appear in the large image of the book, not in the strip above. When I double check my library the photo is still there. What do the gray spots mean?
    Lisa

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Don't use all caps as it's hard to read and tantamount to shouting in the forum.
What do you mean by gray spots? Are you referring to blank frames in the book? The fact that the thumbnails are showing seems to indicate that the library is damaged.
Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.
    Fix #2
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HT204655 How can I access a iPhoto book from time machine without it being modified by Photos?

When I updated to Yosemite I didn't realize the ramifications for iPhoto (silly me). When I migrated my iPhoto library to Photos I have somehow lost a couple of iBooks I had created. I have a number of older iPhoto books under projects, just not the most recent ones. I have checked my other libraries and they are not there. I realized that Apple might have the book in their system from the print order I made a few weeks ago, which they did. And I was able to reorder the book from my invoice for the last order and with help from some very nice Apple support people. However they cannot migrate the book back to me. So now I need to try and find it so I don't have to recreate it. I think it must be in Time Machine somewhere but I am afraid if I find it and try to reinstall it, Yosemite will do something with it. I have noticed when I opened another book that Yosemite said the format was no longer available and reformatted it to another template. Help.

So when I try to uodate iPhoto from my applications folder I am told to uplate IT from the App Store and when I go there I am told the updae is not available in Canada.
You can no longer buy iPhoto from the appStore anywhere, and also not update it from the "Updates" tab of the AppStore. You can reinstall it, if it is showing among your Purchases at the App Store and associated with your AppleID.
Sign into the AppStore look at the Purchases tab.  If you do not see iPhoto there, try to unhide your Purchases as described on this page:   Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support
If iPhoto shows on your Purchases tab, reinstall as described in this User Tip:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.
You may need to unhide your Purchases, if you do not see iPhoto on the Purchases page when you sign into the AppStore with your AppleID:
See this link:  Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support

  • Iphoto Books: How to Enable "fit photo to frame size" when theme grays it out by default

Don't know if this has been posted before or not, but I've been using the "Modern" Theme in iPhoto books and trying for the life of me to figure out how to get my photos to not crop while they're in a single-photo framed layout (I'm not using 4:3 photos; mine are 8.5" by 11"). Even fully zoomed out my photos cut off at the top and bottom. I knew about the "fit photo to frame size" option but the theme had it greyed out--except for on one page, in which it was already enabled. So I must have done it before without paying attention, but it took forever to figure out how to do it again.
    Here's how:
    1. Open up the page you want to modify. I'm assuming here that your photos are already placed, but if not, place the photo you want to use.
    2. Click the Layout tab.
    3. Change the layout to the single page full bleed option--no frame. Your photo should now be blown up across the page.
    4. Right click the photo. The "fit photo to frame size" option should now be available for you to check off. Go ahead and activate it.
    5. Change the layout back to the single photo framed option. Your photo will now fit inside the frame, although to truly see the whole thing you have to open up the Options tab and select the borderless option.
To save time in steps 1-3, and step 5, you can also change the layout of all your pages at once by clicking page 1 (not the cover, the next page), then opening the Layout tab, then selecting the layout you want. You still have select the "fit photo to frame size" individually for each photo.
Hope this is useful for people.
    - Jake

There is an option for the Initial View that is "Magnification:" "Fit Page".  And this works for the initial page when the PDF is opened and it does not matter what the page size it, Acrobat/Reader will automatically fill the screen with the page. If you want the zoom type to change with each page then you need  add a page open script to each page to set the pages zoom type to "zoomtype.fitP"
    this.zoomType = zoomtype.fitP;

How do I find which photo iPhoto is telling me I have a problem with?
I'm trying to buy a book I've formatted, but in place of the filename, it just calls it "(null)".
All of the photos I'm using have names.

That same one others seem to have gotten: "Unable to Assemble Book -- There is a problem with the photo with the filename “(null).” The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book"
I've tried restarting iPhoto with the option and command keys pressed, and asking it to repair permissions, but still have the same message...

  • Is it possible to reorder an iPhoto book 2 years later? My hard drive crashed and the photo book is no longer in my iPhoto but Apple printed it for me before the crash.  Would Apple still be able to print another copy?

For future books you might consider doing what I do:  create a separate library for each book andcopy the photos for the book from your working library to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager.
When the book is completed and ordered burn the library package to a CD, DVD or external HD to archive it so it's available for editing and reordering at a later date if needed.

  • Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos??

Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos?

This is book # 13 and I've not encountered this problem before. I am dragging photos into the sourse pane but they are not imported. I have other books w/ over 700  pics (not all used) but this has only 300+ so far. I've copied the book to a pdf and it looks as if I'll have to redo it unless there's another solution.

  • Inserting a photo in a iphoto book

In iphoto book, I would like to now how to insert a photo in the book by not puting it in the frame?

Where do you want to put it?  You can select a layout which is a full page so there will be no frame.  You need to explain in detail what you're trying to accomplish so we won't have to guess at an answer.

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
    What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

  • What are the photo dimensions in the iPhoto book?

I'm scanning 35mm slides and want to know what size I should set my output. I'm looking in the iPhoto Help, but don't see anything about the printed page dimensions.
Currently, my scans show up in Photoshop's image window as: 4"x6", 256 dpi and 1500x1000 pixel size.
I think/hope this will be OK for 4, 3 and 2 images per page, but I want to rescan for the pages that will only have 1 picture.
Should I set my output to the actual physical size of the picture on the printed page of the book? If so does anyone know what the dimensions are for 1, 2, 3 and 4 per page?
Using VueScan software, I can set the input Scan Res from 300 to 4800 dpi. Is 600 dpi enough? Or should I go to 1200 or more?
My Canon LiDE 600F scanner says it handles up to 48 bit rate. Should I set the Bits to pixel to this?
    Thanks for your assistance,
    Steven

    Steve:
Setting the print size in Vuescan will adjust the dpi of the resulting file so that the photo is set to print that size. The scan dpi is what sets the number of pixels to be created during the scan. The print size just adjusts those pixels in the file so that an application like Photoshop will read it as that print size and adjusts the dpi as read to fit that size. If the print size it larger than the scanned image the dpi will be less than the scan dpi. It the print size is smaller conversely the dpi will be greater than the scan size.
If you think that you might use a photo for a full page layout in the iPhoto book, 8.5 x 11, you would want to scan at a resolution that would give you 3300 pixels in the largest dimension. For a slide that would be 3300/1.4 or about 2400 dpi. The books are printed at 300 dpi so a 2200 dpi on the maximum dimension would fill the bill for nearly all but a full, one photo per page, layout. And then it would still come out pretty good.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "Edit photo" link in iPhoto Book Project does not work

    Hi,
I am putting together an Book project in iPhoto.  On a few pictures, I would like to edit them to make minor adjustments.
When I right click on the picture in iPhoto Book Project, there is an option to "Edit Photo".
When I click on the "Edit Photo" link, the screen switches to the iPhoto Edit page  but the picture does not load for editing - it's just a black screen.
I can always edit the photo before placing it in the Book, but in a large Book it is more convenient to select the picture on the Book page rather than going back and look for it in iPhoto.
Anyone has experienced/fixed this?  Is this a bug?  I have version 9.2.3
    Thanks
    Armen

Are you able to go to the photo in its Event and edit it there? Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #1 to repair permissions and #4 to rebuild the database.
