Blank previews in fx and transitions.

I have loaded imovie6 onto my G4 400mhz mac and it works, but the previews of transitions and fx are blank. Is my computer just too slow? The transitions will apply if I apply them, I just can see them beforehand. Any suggestions?

blank for me, too. I presume its a bug of some kind, esp for PDFs.
About the previewing, I'm not sure. :)

Excel Print preview stopped working and when save as pdf, pdf is blank

i was working on 2 documents for our accountant.
created one in excel, converted to pdf
created second one in excel, converted to pdf
there was maybe a 30 minute time lapse between these 2 files...tops
the first file does in fact have a print preview, and the pdf opens and is viewable.
HOWEVER, on the second file, there is no print preview, and pdf is blank.
(although the printer does in fact print the file with all the words and whatnot on it...)
blank pdf prints blank.
i tried xlsx, and xls to pdf, and nothing works.
it seems that all of the files created before this troublesome one can be converted and seen in print preview....even if i add a new sheet to the workbook, that works just fine...can print preview and convert pdf no problems.
now, when i try to do that with the second file, or any new excel doc, i canNOT convert or print preview....everything is blank.
one minute it was working, the next it's not.
it works for some excel files while not working for newer ones.
nothing was changed in preferences for excel, preview, or the printer, unless i accidentally typed a keyboard command that would allow this to happen.
i REALLY need to be able to convert excel to pdf! and i really don't want to have to print them out just to scan them in and save the scans as pdf...not fun.
i have been researching, or trying to research this here,and it seems that there is a known bug for office 2008, or for a different OS, but none of the work arounds for those issues are helping me here!

Try different page setups and layouts. Reinstall the Office fonts, or check for new patches from Microsoft. Check in Microsoft Office forums. Mind you PDF from preview and print are not as complete as Adobe Acrobat Pro, and are based on open source PDF standards. I don't know how well the standards were at the time your Office application was written, or if 10.5's PDF standard was up to Office's snuff, or if you updating to the latest available Adobe Acrobat Reader and Plugin will help, but between Office's and Adobe's forum you may be abl eto find an answer.

Pdf In preview on firefox and google chrome seem ok Download becomes Blank.

Pdf In preview on firefox and google chrome preview are fine so open in adobe reader the pdf becomes Blank.
So i installed the newest update of adobe reader 11. still comes up blank. I tried on to other computers the file seems ok.
Saved file from one computer onto a usb and tried opening on problem computer still apears blank.
So then I uninstalled adobe reader then a program on the computer what came with the pc opned the pdf fine so i restarted the computer installed 11 came up blank.
So i restarted computer again installed reader 10 comes up blank
Uninstalled re installed 11 again then created a guest account on the computer opned file still blank
So then I imporeted the file to adobe Paint shop pro it will all appear in there.

I tried your advice to I saved both PDFs from your links (using right-click, then Save Link as), and they save and open correctly: I get nothing

This file we have downloaded before and lost so now we download it and get nothing. .
Could there be anything in the preferences or settings.
Saved the file from this computer that not worked as a pdf on to a usb thumb drive works on other computer.
Have Just noticed adobe reader becomes unresposive and then evently crashes when tyrying to click on other pages of this pdf that not working..

Finder Cover Flow image preview size is small, cannot be adjusted and showing empty blank previews in Mavericks

When using Cover Flow the image preview in the main window (not the thumbnail list at the bottom) images appear but only use about 1/2 of the window space available. It is also showing black/blank preview images as I scroll through the files even though they are cached.
I enlarge the Finder to fill my 27 inch display, slide the size adjustment handle (three lines under the file name preview) all the way down as far as I can. The preview only enlarges to a certain point leaving the upper half of the window unused. I wish to enlarge the cover flow preview images to use this window space even if it affects the overlapping or number of cover flow images avaialble in the window. I am assuming this is becasue of the nature of cover flow showing the two previous and two following images to the left and right of the previewed image. As I scroll left and right occsionally one of the upcoming images will appear as and empty preview as well. It's all goofed up.
Hoping for any suggestions.
I have seen articles about using terminal to adjust "flow height" but never anything substainial that seemend like an informed solution.

I also would like to know if there is an answer to this. My landscape photos always display with a third of the cover flow window as blank empty space (matching your screenshot). This seems like such a waste. Is there any way to change the "padding" between the top of the finder bar and the cover flow preview?

18 fps breaks transition previewing, precision editor, and keywords

I'm working on a Super 8 movie project. My films were scanned at 18 fps. When I imported them into iMovie '11 I had no choice but to convert them to another speed -- 24 fps in this case. OK. Most things work fine, but there are a few exceptions.
Keywords: Easy to add, difficult to remove. Never get the checkmarks. Sometimes have to use Cmd-Z to remove they keywords. But it all works fine as long as I have a project whose frame rate is the same as the raw footage, which I can't do with Super 8 transfers. OK, I can live without keywords.
Transition previews: Again, this is only a problem when there is a frame mismatch between the project footage and the raw footage. But with my Super 8 transfers I have no choice: The raw footage is at 18fps while iMovie does only 24 or 30 fps. I chose 24 fps.
One problem is using the transition preview function in the transition Inspector. (Just to be clear, I hover over the little transition thingie in the Project Browser to select it, click the gear, then click Transition Adjustments on the drop-down menu. Then I click the Transitions thing and that opens a palette of transitions. I skim over the various transitions to preview them.) Depending on the transition (assume were doing clip A to clip B), clip A shows up fine but, depending on which transition you choose, part or all of clip B is the wrong footage from somewhere else in the project. (WT...?)
Precision editor: Skimming the bottom row shows a completely different part of the footage than it should! Playback on the middle line works fine, though. Footage on the top strip is the same as on the middle strip when the playhead is to the left of the transition. This should also be the case with the bottom strip and the middle strip when the playhead is to the right of the transition, but the bottom strip shows a completely different footage instead.
Also, the transition playback is a little jerky. Fortunately, all is well with normal playback and exported footage.
OK. I'm on iMovie 9.0.4. I think this is the latest version I can use with OS X version 10.6.8. I saw a post with iMovie 9.0.7 mentioned, but that only works for Lion. OK, so my question is, will these bugs be fixed if I upgrade to Lion and the most current version of iMovie? Or, am I doing something wrong?

CORRECTION: Sorry, the mismatch of frame rates is not responsible for the bottom strip of the Precision Editor (PE) from showing the wrong footage. I did a test where some Super 8 18-fps footage placed into iMovie 24 fps worked fine. But most cases still exhibit the problem. So I don't know what's causing it.
I'm reasonably sure that frame-rate mismatching is the cause of the keywords problem. I took some test footage with the Mac's camera and that's at 15 fps. If I work with that footage in a 30 fps project, all works well. If I work in a 24 fps project, I never get the checkmarks when marking footage, but I am able to use Remove All to remove all the keyword marking strips. But when I work with my Super 8 footage, 18 fps original in 24 fps projects, it's even worse. I can't remove the keywords except via Cmd-Z. Acutally, many moons ago I think I did find a way, but it was difficult and took much experimentation, and thus much time. Come to think of it, the "many moons ago" was almost certainly a time when I had an eariler verion of iMovie. Other than this, my tests yield consistent results -- so far ((!))
Great program, except for the annoying bugs. I like the design. I really like the "extendo buttons", as David Pogue and Aaron MIller's book iMovie '09 calls them (Apple term: Fine Tuning buttons). And now that I'm adding a few transitions to my VFT movie, I'd really like the PE to work. Bummer.
As for stuttering transitions, I have more experimentation to do.

Preview 4.2 and Adobe 9.1.2 -- compatible??

Received a .pdf file that said open with Adobe Reader 9.0. I opened with Preview (4.2) and all filled fields (including check boxes) were visible. I inserted a scanned signature page and when I sent the .pdf file back to a PC user, all of the filled fields (check boxes as well) were blank. I installed Adobe Reader 9.0 (9.1.2 update) and my field were blank as well. I have never had a problem going between the two before. Any thoughts?

While I don't disagree with anything you've said, I feel some clarification is necessary.

The PDF format is capable of much more than Apple supports, and Apple is not always up to date with their PDF version support, so there are a few cases Preview can't handle. For example, in filling out PDF forms, showing overprints and transparency properly in a CMYK file, and some of the online shared document review features. Adobe Reader does all that better. If you don't run into situations like that, you might be fine with Preview.
I haven't run into any of those situations in several years. I did have some fill-in PDF forms recently, but the Mac version of Reader had such poor text alignment that I actually had to use the full version of Acrobat in Windows. In the end, I wasted my time because the lawyers re-typed it all anyway.
So, the moral of my story is that very few people need anything more than Preview. For those that do, there are great freeware programs like Skim and shareware like PDFClerk that do far more than Acrobat . So, if you are having trouble downloading Acrobat or installing it. Or if you are still waiting for it to launch. Or if Acrobat has thoroughly trashed your printer drivers or "Save as PDF" feature, just use something else.

No blank preview pics in iphoto

i have the problem that some pictures have no preview in iphoto. This happends only when i do changes like turn the photo in iphoto. I get only a blank preview image but the original photos are ok.
What can i do ?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Edited clips and transitions don't render properly. Bugs in iMovie 7.1.4?

I'm using iMovie on a MacBook and have been using it for quite some time. I believe version 7.1.4 was downloaded during a recent Software Update. About the time I downloaded it, my iMovie started going haywire. I'm not positive these problems are as a result of the download, but I can't be sure.
More specifically, when I edit a movie and review what I've edited, the clips are out of order and the transitions may or may not work. Sometimes, I'll be able to see things in the preview pane properly. At others, the preview pane isn't working right.
Has anyone else had the same problem? If so, how did you fix it?
I've tried deleting my old projects and events, but that didn't work. Resarting the iMovie didn't work, either. I'm about to go back to the old version of iMovie.

Often the problem is sound and transitions -
• Extract audio first
• then apply transition
• then adjust the extracted audio so that they fade in and out
Working solution to a known problem

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named. com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

Blank Previews on JPGs & DNGs?

My installations of Lens Profile Creator on Win XP and iMac show only blank previews of selected demo jpgs or my own dng files. Is some special display setting needed?

If I understand it right, those without CS4 are unable to convert their raw files to DNG's which can be properly read by LCP creator?
(I used the DNG converter packed with the latest ACR, but I have the same issue: DNG files load properly, but no previews)

Blank preview screen

I am using Photoshop Lightroom with a Windows XP operating system.
Blank preview screen (no previews of photgraphs) appears if I click on All Photographs or on a Keyword. Previews do appear if I click on a specific folder or collection.

You probably have a filter set in all photographs. Check the filter bar above and to the right of the film strip.

IDVD 08 update (blank Preview window)

I am using iDVD08 and when use the software it displays a blank preview window (black screen, sound plays fine). This of course means I cannot create DVD menus, add videos to drop frames etc. Other Forums online say that a software update available for this version of iDVD resolves the problem, however, when i go onto 'Software update' on the apple menu, there doesn't seem to be an update available for iDVD or iLife. I cannot click on check for updates on the iDVD menu. Is there somewhere else i can download this software update from?? The support downloads on the apple website don't seem to have helped, when I have attempted to install them they say that a newer version of the software is already installed.

Try the following:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.

When playing FarmVille I continually get a window poping open that is title "about blank" it then closes and pops open again, preventing me from doing anything on Farmville how can I stop this?

when trying to play FarmVille with Firefox on my laptop, a window continually pops open with the title "about blank" then it closes, and pops open again right away. Because of this I can not manage to do anything on the FarmVille screen. This does NOT happen on my desktop machine. Both are running Windows 7 64 bit. How can I prevent the window from poping up all the time? Something is continually sending a request, but I do not know what it is. Thank you for any help or suggestions. By the way, Google Chrome works perfectly, but I prefer Firefox.

If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Preview is broken and when exported in Nik Software plugin, it's black or over bright

I'm working on a project for a Sail championship (last month the J24 European Championship, while this week Interlaghi) and since I started the last one I've really great problems with preview and "exporting" in Nik Software, that I never had before.
This is workflow:
shot image in raw (Canon eos500d)
import image in Aperture3 (images are refered on external drive normally, but now for this project are refered on the desk, I've an 256[GB] SSD with 8[GB] of RAM)
edit the image with Aperture3 controls, if I'm not lucky leaving the full screen the preview (big) dissapear and broken (small)
if I'm lucky open the image in Nik Software (e.g. Dfine) and work on it, when finished if unlucky back to point 3
if not luck the image in Nik Software is Black
so regenerate preview, and similar action are taken (last night I've also rbuilt all archive, with cmd+alt click aperture icon)
if luck I can work and export
if not luck I must close Aperture and keep crossed fingers.
At the begining I thought it could be a problem of too many images in the same folder and aperture-project (1800), but this is not the first time I work with big volume (airplanes shooting in Axalp normally is 1200 shots in one day).
I thought even a speed problem on the archive (the externa HD is 5200rpm on FireWire).
So I decided to relocate raw files on the desk, as I said I've a 256[GB] SSD; but nothing change!
Maybe a problem on TIFF export??
Someone can tell me a solution? the only big change in my usual workflow is that now there is Analog Efex Pro (that I don't use).
extra: I'm using a MacBook Pro (after june 2009 version 5,5 )

I just discovered, that the problem is generated by Aperture3 bug: when I go on some image it change setting of CURVE and/or LEVEL

I have a mac air and it says my star up disk is full, now when I log in it just has a blank white lit screen and I cannot go further

that the startup disk is full. I already tried diagnostics and it says hardware is fine.

You will have to erase your drive because it has a corrupted directory resulting from allowing the drive to become full.
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
      the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
           because it is three times faster than wireless.

Force Quit required to quit unresponsive / frozen application and then Restart of Adobe Photoshop CC
Crash Frequency: Three time in this work day, 5.6.14 Once a day sporadically (approximately 10 times) in past two weeks.
Other applications running at time of crashes: Adobe Bridge - NOT effected. Computer was on line with no browsers open.
Otherwise computer continued to operate normally.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop CC for approximately two months.

I did in deed submit a homemade crash report.
I would have submitted "an actual Crash Report " and sooner, but: When this event occurs. there are NO dialog boxes. All frozen / blank. No possibility of "actual crash report" !
