Blank screen after bios update

Hi everybody!
My friend asked me to take a look at her computer. It was quite old HP pavilion 6525en. Before reinstalling windows I checked that she got first version of bios and decided to upgrade it. Sadly, after reboot I found myself in deep problem. There was a blank screen. I decided to look around in internet and found that its a common problem. (have updated lots of bios, but never happened stuff like that). So I found couple articles about Phoenix crisis recovery and decided to try that. Should I know something before I dive in? I know that I need thumb drive or usb floppy and how to enter CRM (crisis recovery mode), but all these sounds scares me a bit. How long does beeping takes after thumb drive stops flashing? Can it overheat, coz I found that fan won't slow down? can anything burn during this? (I know, lots of questions, but I'm cautious, coz I just wanted to do a good job for my friend and now it seems that I might have to get her a new computer )  p/n: GT391EA#ABB. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no harm in trying crisis recovery, the recovery should take 2-5 minutes, you should get some sort of signal or sign when it is done, most systems will automatically restart when done.
I don't know of any reason it would overheat during crisis recovery.

  • Blank screen after bios update succesfully thinkpad w510

Hello everyone, I update my older bios 1.34 to the newest bios 1.45 with the driver in the website lenovo driver, after the succesfully install, the pc restart and now I have a blank screen..
I think the bios failed and now I need to rewrite it... I tried a clear CMOS but nothing appear...
I tried a bootable CD and usb but nothing again...
the pc has already been opened so I think the warranty does not work anymore... I'm really lost...

Un-plug laptop, remove battery, wait a minute or so, then re-insert battery and AC, and turn on.  Do you see *anything* on the screen, or does it remain completely blank?   When you listen to the machine, does it seem to do anything?  How about if you put in a start-up CD, then power on?

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck

  • Blank screen after Bios Ugrade to 3.15 on X200

    Good day.
Yesterday I used the Bios-iso to updated the bios on my x200.
Following the instructions given on the page [1]. After rebooting
the system, as asked by the Bios-update, the screen remains
blank. There is no beep or any sign of life on the screen.
Is there a way to fix this? Do I have to replace the motherboard, or
is it possible to fix it "cheaper"?
    thanks, Tobias

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would probley remove the HDD and try a reboot with only one ram chip see if you get any Bios screen on reboot.
The fact this only started after you attempted to flash the bios probley means your bios is corrupted not a very easy thing to fix hence lead orgs surgestion of a bios recovery program.
It looks like there are a few others with similar bad bios upgrade experiences:
    http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X301-won-t-start-after-BIOS-update/td-p/150931
Maybe the CMOS battery removal might work for you as well

  • Blank screen after KitKat update

I just completed the KitKat update on an Ellipsis 7 tablet that's connected to Verizon's network, but now I'm only getting a blank screen after the welcome screen displays. Fyi: the first part of this update went smoothly. Can anyone can help me resolve this issue? I really like this tablet and use it everyday.

I contacted Verizon support and a couple of techs attempted to walk me through alternate boot methods. However, as bassclarinetl2 noted, "pressing the power button to turn the device off results in the device powering up by itself and both 'safe mode' and 'factory reset' are inaccessible via their button combinations." Therefore, I'm sending my tablet in to be repaired or replaced under warranty. Depending on how long you've had your Ellipsis 7 tablet, you may be able to do the same.
Incidentally, I have another (seemingly) identical Ellipsis 7 tablet and was able to successfully install the KitKat upgrade on this second tablet, which I'm using now. The sooner Verizon determines why the upgrade worked on one tablet and not the other, the better.

  • Blank screen after kernel update

Dear Archers, I'm sorry for asking your help  but I'm really stuck here.
What happened? I did an update like usual and a new updated kernel was installed. The pacman process 'pacman -Syu' did not completely finish for one reason or another and hang on the part 'linux', so I had to abort it after an hour by using CTRL+C. After this, I was left with an unbootable system saying at TTY1 "Unable to find root device..." and "failed to load ...modules'. Even switching to TTY2 or typing in the terminal was not possible.
Gladly for me I was able to fix this problem by booting the Arch live USB and chroot in my system. From there I ran 'mkinitcpio -p linux', re-installed my GRUB2 (there were some problems with it) and now it's all fine and booting well. The only problem remaining is the fact that the system boots into a blank screen. No error message, nothing.
When trying to consult 'journalctl' there is nothing mentioned about an error or problem. So my initial thought was that there was something wrong with X. But nothing had changed for the Xorg.conf file so I thought that maybe the Nvidia modules where not loaded/configured correctly. Which makes me install 'nvidia-hook' as described in the Wiki and I've added 'nivida' to my 'hooks' in mkinitcpio. After running the command again all went well and the modules are configured. But I still arrive at a blank screen and now I'm really out of ideas what could be the culprit here...
Extra info: I use GDM that boots straight into Gnome. It says after boot:
    [OK] ...
    [OK] Started GNOME display manager
    [OK] Reached target graphical interface
    and then a blank screen
Thank you for any guidance or help you could give me.

    X still exists, I tried:
    systemctl disable gdm
    systemctl enable lightdm
After this change I rebooted and the system fires up lightdm after wich I see the lightdm interface graphically and I can enter my username and password. When clicking on OK to logon, I arrive on a black screen with a sad face saying 'Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover. All extensions have been disables as a precaution.' with a 'Log Out' button. On top of this screen my Conky screen pops-up.
When I try to logon with Gnome-Classic, I have the same sad face greeting me after lightdm received my credentials. It's the same as this problem described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1270468
The fact that I can see this as a non terminal thing, means my X is fine. So it might be related to a problem within Gnome or the Gnome session... No one else has this problem? Isn't there a way to re-initialise Gnome or it's session?
I tried already reinstalling Gnome, the Gnome-Bluetooth package a resported in the other thread but to no avail.

  • Black screen after BIOS update

    Hi there,
After updating BIOS with regular HP software (i forgot the name now), the computer shut down and from that moment when i turn it on the screen stays black (with computer apparently running). I read so many posts with similar problems and i tried few things but without success. I know that i am very close to solve the problem but from all the suggestions i am now simply confused. I would like to ask, if someone can guide me through step-by-step procedure, i figured out that i need to install a BIOS version on USB-stick, but exact details i am obviously missing.
I have HP Pavilion dv 6700 Entertainment PC and new HDD inside without HP_TOOLS on it.
    Thank you veeeeeryyyy much!

  • HP elitebook black screen after bios update

I recently bought a great condition HP elitebook 8440p. I installed a new hard drive 1TB hybrid hard drive ssd+HDD. I managed to get the computer working and everything was fine untill I decided to update bios. I searched up drivers and the first thing came up was bios update so I said to myself why not. After the program shut down my computer, I immediately noticed abnormal fan speed. There was no picture, and the panel lights were on and two lights (Cap lock and numlock) were blinking 3 times for 5 sets so (blink blink blink (Pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink. After that nothing else happenes. The other panel lights stay on and the fan continues to spin until i turn it off.
    Things i have tried.
    1. Installing update bios to 16gb flash drive, making it bootable and then sticking it into the USB port. Holding down Win+B. Also tried to hold down FN+insert , (Up+ down+ Left+ right), f10
    2. Several hard resets (Holding down power button for 30 seconds, 1 min to 30 mins.
    3. Reseating ram. Ram is 100% functional. Stuck it into an Asus G75VW and showed I had 10 GB rather than having 8 .
There are no instructions on how to fix this problem on the 8440p and I see people asking for answers. I am really fustrated and spend several hours trying to figure this problem out on Youtube, HP forums etc. Thanks

I have same issue with my HP EliteBook 8440p.
I updated my bios throuh HP SoftPaq Download Manager and aftrer the reset the computer won't boot, I get a black screen and it lights up and fan is working.
Since my warranty expired and this is official HP software I am wondering who will cover the costs of the repair?
The laptop is currently in offical HP service for two weeks now and they are waitnig for a reply from HP central for a possible solution for the issue.
From what I read on HP support forums there is no fix and HP isn't in a hurry to answer on anyones questions about that which is very sad for a company I thought was professional... also, the surprising thing is that this is not a cheap laptop for the masses but a laptop which is built to last for professional users
The question remains, is there a fix for this issue and if not who is going to cover the cost of repair/replacement of the components/laptop?
    Best regards,
    Cole

  • Blank screen after full update and reboot

As it is now, it goes to the point during boot, right before the resolution gets set to the right value, before I get a blank screen (no input to screen).
I have reinstalled several times, and tried a few different configurations. After all these attempts, I have practically memorized everything. This is what I do:
Setup is finished, and I reboot the computer.
    # reboot
The computer reboots and I login to root.
    # pacman -Sy
    # rm -rf /var/run /var/lock; pacman -S filesystem --force
    # pacman -S tzdata
    # pacman -S pacman
    # pacman-key --init; pacman-key --populate archlinux
I switch to the second terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F2) and create a user
    # useradd bompi
    # passwd bompi
    I write the password. Twice.
    # cd /home
    # mkdir bompi
    # chown bompi bompi
I then log in and out of the different users and echo random stuff until the key is generated. I then switch back to the first console and say yes to everything the key thing asks.
At this point, I can reboot just fine. It isn't until the next bit I get trouble.
    # rm /etc/profile.d/locale.sh; pacman -Syu; mkinitcpio -p linux
Everything completes, no problem. I then reboot (shutdown -r now) and run into the earlier described problem.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I didn't know about the adduser script, but wouldn't the chown command fix the permissions? I did it this way in a virtual machine and got it working pretty good.
However, I don't think this has anything to do with the issue I am having. The main reason I made the user when I did, was so I had something to do to while the keys got generated. I never used the user except for a quick login to test.

  • Z1 Compact: blank screen after lollipop update. when try to repair i get an error massage (302)

I've updated my xperia Z1 compact to lollipop using OTA service. The phone was new and nothing was installed on it. after the update the screen lock disappeared and I coudn't unlock the phone (the exact same problem the has been dealt with here: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Android-amp-All-apps-crash-after-updating-the-OS/m-p/991583/highlight/true#M15970).when I tried to repair my phone using PC Companion i kept getting the "Sony mobile update engine failure error number 302". I used 4 different computers, disabled the firewall and the anti virus, ran it in compatibilty mode and made sure java was installed. all the computers passed the system requirements and had broadband internet connection, still the same error every time.what to do now?

it could be a temporary server issue.

  • Black screen after BIOS update on K9N Neo V2, help pls?

    Hi guys!
    I have K9N Neo V2 motherboard and Athlon X2 5400, I've decided to upgrade and bought Phenom x4 9750.
So I've updated the bios to 3.0O from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124305.0 using the instruction, it went fine, I've been using it for a week but found out some bugs (windows blue screen and applications and OS hangups), then I got to restore OS from acronis true image - failed. And then I decided to check if the new bios supports my old athlon or not, I've changed the CPU and started - failed, dark screen no bios, I plugged back Phenom and now it also is not working :((. Have no idea why and what to do now..
Would really appreciate any suggestions and help.
    Thank you in advance

  • 790FX-GD70 - Blank screen after bios (never shows Windows Loading screen)

    Setup:
    Phenom II X4 955
    790FX-GD70
750w PC Power and Cooling, Inc PSU
    Western Digital HDD
    ATI HD2900XT
    x-Fi fatality sound card
    Windows XP x64 Pro
So hardware wise this setup has not changed in over 8 months.  However tonight I restarted (first sound cut out so i decided to reboot).  Lo and behold on the reboot, it will flash the MSI splash screen and allow me into the bios but when I go to boot it will not show the windows loading screen.  It sends me to an active (my monitor doesn't go into standby) black blank screen (no text or error msg) and won't respond to any keys.
Anyone else ever have similar issues?
    Thanks
    Verik

I appreciate it guys.  I did a little more digging around the internet and found it was most likely due to a corrupted MBR.  The fix usually involves booting from a win xp disc and typing in the command "fixmbr" in the recovery program.  However I inserted my win xp disc and it simply went black..... then loaded up windows just fine.  Pulled the disc out, did a normal restart and it seems to have solved itself.... At this point I'm not sure entirely what it did but I'm just being thankful its working haha.
    Appreciate the input guys.

  • T61 Black Screen after BIOS update

    I have a T61 with Vista.
I did the lastest BIOS update and it got stuck, my power is fine, my connrection is fine but somehow it got stuck. So i terminated the update (ctrl+alt+del). Then i removed system update, dowloaded it again (3.14) and did a restart.
So now i turn on my T61, and Windows won't even start. All i see is a black screen and i hear my DVD-Rom running and everything still seems to work but i won't get anything on my screen. I tried pushing F1 but nothing happens, thinkvantage button doesn't work and i removed my battery etc.

    Hello backstabber,
it seems you have flashed yout TP to death. One chance, if your cd drive is working till now.
Try to download bios file as a bootable.iso file burn it to cd and try to flash bios with this bootable disc.
If nothing happens you have to take it to service and the motherboard would be replaced.

  • Black Screen After BIOS Update P6520f

    Hi All,
I attempted to install the BIOS update for the Pavillion P6520f as recommended by HP for sleep mode issues. The BIOS update was downloaded and began installing when the computer BSOD'd. I now have no indication there is any BIOS at all available for startup. The computer powers up, but no BIOS screen. No beeps. It's just a black screen.
Is there any fix available for this issue?
    Many thanks in advance.

First unplug your computer, and hold the power button for 30 seconds minimum. Replug the power back in and then see if it boots. If that fails, see if you can do a rollback for the update.
I have had an issue with an update and mobo failure. I doubt its the case, but it does happen, where the correct thing discovers malfunction.
