Blank Screen after sign in - any ideas?

A few days ago my IQ515 was running slow so I shut everything down and pressed restart. After 2 hours computer still hanging so pressed power off button. Next day went to boot up and got error "Computer did not close down properly etc etc". Went to start in normal mode and all OK with windows logo and then sign in screen. However about 5 seconds after sign in screen goes blank. Mouse still shows and touch screen appears to work but screen completely blank. After while get error message on screen saying "HP touchsmart calendar and notes has stopped working". Rest of screen blank.
Have tried to sign in using all safe modes but still get blank screen but this time with line at top of screen saying "Microsoft (R) windows (R) (Build 6001 - service pack 1)" also words "safe mode" in all four corners. But still no workable screen.
Have tried using F10, then F5 then F10 but screen still blank. Tried F8 to log in but same story.
Computer just out of Warranty so any help appreciated.

Hi,
Try the following and let me know.
Boot the computer normally and log-in.
At the black screen, hold down the ctrl and alt keys and press delete.
Select Task Manager.
In the bottom left select More Details ( if it's not already selected ).
Click in the Name column header to arrange the processes in alphabetical order.
Look for an entry called Run Once Wrapper (RunOnce.exe) - if you see it listed, right click on it and select End Task.
Does the Desktop now show?

  • Blank  screen after signing in

I'm stuck in a blank screen after signing in.  The options to sign in or sleep function, but nothing else. And when I sign in the screen is blank.

I am new to the "community thing"... I have the same question as you regarding the blank screen... I do not see any answers to your questions or know how to get to them...

  • Blank Screen after Sign In

I unboxed this unit on Monday and everything worked well upon setup. Yesterday I logged in, the HP logo appeared, the computer is going through the motions but my screen is blank. Periodically boxes appear telling me that I am connected wirelessly but there's no desktop. I can ctrl alt delete and restart. Upon restarting last night the computer had several updates but the screen is still blank. I've tried unplugging, holding the power button. I've pumped F8 followed the steps in this forum and still nothing. I did ESC and F2 and performed the tests on the hardware, diagnostics, and all came back with "passed". Are there any more suggestions or do I just have a dud?

  • Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?

Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?Regards.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • Blank screen after kernel update

Dear Archers, I'm sorry for asking your help  but I'm really stuck here.
What happened? I did an update like usual and a new updated kernel was installed. The pacman process 'pacman -Syu' did not completely finish for one reason or another and hang on the part 'linux', so I had to abort it after an hour by using CTRL+C. After this, I was left with an unbootable system saying at TTY1 "Unable to find root device..." and "failed to load ...modules'. Even switching to TTY2 or typing in the terminal was not possible.
Gladly for me I was able to fix this problem by booting the Arch live USB and chroot in my system. From there I ran 'mkinitcpio -p linux', re-installed my GRUB2 (there were some problems with it) and now it's all fine and booting well. The only problem remaining is the fact that the system boots into a blank screen. No error message, nothing.
When trying to consult 'journalctl' there is nothing mentioned about an error or problem. So my initial thought was that there was something wrong with X. But nothing had changed for the Xorg.conf file so I thought that maybe the Nvidia modules where not loaded/configured correctly. Which makes me install 'nvidia-hook' as described in the Wiki and I've added 'nivida' to my 'hooks' in mkinitcpio. After running the command again all went well and the modules are configured. But I still arrive at a blank screen and now I'm really out of ideas what could be the culprit here...
Extra info: I use GDM that boots straight into Gnome. It says after boot:
    [OK] ...
    [OK] Started GNOME display manager
    [OK] Reached target graphical interface
    and then a blank screen
Thank you for any guidance or help you could give me.

    X still exists, I tried:
    systemctl disable gdm
    systemctl enable lightdm
After this change I rebooted and the system fires up lightdm after wich I see the lightdm interface graphically and I can enter my username and password. When clicking on OK to logon, I arrive on a black screen with a sad face saying 'Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover. All extensions have been disables as a precaution.' with a 'Log Out' button. On top of this screen my Conky screen pops-up.
When I try to logon with Gnome-Classic, I have the same sad face greeting me after lightdm received my credentials. It's the same as this problem described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1270468
The fact that I can see this as a non terminal thing, means my X is fine. So it might be related to a problem within Gnome or the Gnome session... No one else has this problem? Isn't there a way to re-initialise Gnome or it's session?
I tried already reinstalling Gnome, the Gnome-Bluetooth package a resported in the other thread but to no avail.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe! Now see if it charges normally and after a period try to turn it on again. If the batter has been drained it could take 20 minutes or so for it to show that it is charging.
Also considering if the battery need replacing!

  • Trash won't empty straight away still emptying now after 4 hours any ideas

Hi there im trying to empty the trash on my imac and its still trying to empty after 4 hours any ideas why this is ?

    Drive Preparation for Snow Leopard
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    Drive Preparation for Lion
    1.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.

  • Blank Screen after Hibernate

    Hi,
On my DV6-3085 I sometimes power up by opening the lid and get a blank screen after a few seconds.
The screen will say Starting Windows, flash and then go blank. At this point the finger print scanner is still working and responds but you cannot obliviously see anything.
I fairly suspicious this happens after the laptop has not been used for a little while (overnight) after a lid close, so the Sleep light has stopped flashing and the laptop is in hibernate mode.
My guess is it is something to do with switching graphics adapters. I've not yet decided if plugging the power in first does or does not make a difference or being on battery or AC when the lid was closed.
I've got the latest drivers according to the HP driver update utility.
Anyone with the same problem or have a solutions?
    Thanks,
    Dean.
