  • When I click a link within a site, Firefox connects me to a blank screen instead of to the page/document I was trying to get to. Why?

    Let me give you examples:
    1. The USAA website told me to click a link to get my new insurance card. With Firefox, I was delivered to a blank page; with Safari, to my new insurance cards.
    2. Within my bank's website, I clicked the tab to get a statement. Firefox delivered me to a blank page.
    3. The email from the soccer association said click to register. Firefox delivered me to a blank page; Safari brought me to the registration page.

This can happen if the disk cache isn't enabled (see about:cache) or otherwise the page isn't in the cache.
If possible then try to open that video in a new tab with a middle-click on the link or via the right-click context menu.<br />
Then you can close that tab instead of using the Back button to go back to that page.

  • When viewing documents on a Web Server, IE automatically opens a blank page and then opens the document in the default program. The blank screen should close automatically but isn't happening.

So here is the situation, my company uses a third party scanning software, that puts documents scanned or created onto a webserver. We use a program that grants a user access to view the documents on the webserver. The user will have to log into the system
using credentials, we have Kerberos doing this. Once the user is logged onto the system they navigate to the document they want to view or edit. So the user wants to view a .pdf file, they click the document they want, and it is supposed to open in the default
program associated with file extension. ie: .doc would open Word, .xls would open Excel. When the document is loading in the default program Internet Explorer opens a blank page, this page is supposed to prompt the user if they want to open or save the document.
(I changed the registry to have the files selected to automatically open without this prompt.) The blank screen generated is still staying open, this screen is supposed to close automatically after the prompt or close automatically after the document is opened.
So when a user is looking at several documents, this floods the screen with all these blank Internet Explorer pages. This problem is only occurring for users that have Windows 7 PC's, XP users do not have this problem at all. My PC is the only one in the company
that is Windows 7 64-bit, and working properly with the IE blank page automatically closing. I'm wondering what can be done to fix this problem, is it as simple as registering some .dll files or do I need to make a registry change? Any help would greatly be
    appreciated.

What is the registry change exactly?  Sounds like one which is supposed to avoid the prompt.  I know
that there used to be such a thing, before the new prompt and I know that some users think that there should be such a thing for any program but I'm not sure if that expectation is valid or not.  I think this may also be related to a concurrent change
in the OS.  E.g. in XP we had File Types Options editor but starting in Vista that was removed.  You might get some more clues on this tack from NirSoft's FileTypesMan utility.
The registry change that I did was to remove the open and save prompt. I will be sure to look into that. Our company
isn't worried about the user's automatically opening the files since they are all trusted. They also do not have the ability to install anything, so if they were to download a potentially harmful file they could never install it. We monitor downloads as well,
if they download files off the internet that aren't work related we remove their download capabilities.
Sounds like a scenario for using ProcMon to take two traces and compare them for their essential differences.
I talked to my boss about using this tool and he is worried about using it. I'm only an intern at my office and do not have the authority to use a program without their knowledge or consent. I will run the idea by them again and see if it's okay I use this.
I'll maybe make some presentation about how it can help us with our problem and how much time and money it will save. Because I really want to get down to the bottom of this.
Probably the most significant thing is going to be the Content-type that the files are being served by.
You could use the Developer Tools, Network Capture to check on that and ProcMon could help explain what happens after that.  A related workaround to change the symptom when the Content-type is not what is expected is to disable MIME Sniffing (e.g. in
Security options, Miscellaneous section).  In fact, perhaps that could explain your machine's difference with anyone else?  MIME Sniffing is a default, previously known as "save according to type not extension" (or some such wording).
Okay I will be completely honest I have no idea how to use Developer Tools (F12), yes I could google it, when I tried using it on the blank pages it would never work, I also have no idea what I'm looking at. I should mention that I do not have access to
the web server. Our programming and development side only has access to our AS400, which is where the web server is located. I do have MIME Sniffing enabled and so does everyone else. I may be wrong but, I believe it is needed in order to open the file extension
in the correct default program, yes? I thought MIME Sniffing would see a .docx file and then find the appropriate program to open that .docx file in. I may be wrong but I know it's used somehow along these lines.

  • I am having trouble with my MacBook Pro. I get a blank screen with a flashing document file with a question mark in it, yes I have tried to install Mac OS X with the original disk but I get no choices of where I wish to install Mac OS X. Please help ;(

I am having some trouble with my computer, what happened was: I was playing on a game, I played with a magnet, it started to go slower and slower, I pressed F9 then it went slower and then it went to a blank screen with a flashing document with a question mark on it. I tried the original OS X installation disk but when it came to choosing the area of which I save it, it showed no areas.

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
If the startup disk is not available from that window, you may be able to repair the disk.
Help here >  A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

  • When I download a document, I get a message saying download was successful, but a blank screen where the document should be. What am I doing wrong?

When I download a document, I get a message saying download was successful, but a blank screen where the document should be. What am I doing wrong?
I go to an internet company and try to download a document from it. A tab pops up saying the download was successful, but all I see is a blank screen with UI at the top. I don't understand where the download is going.

Thanks so much for your reply fanboy20.
Yes, just made sure of that.  I do have the latest version of Flash player.  But I have just staggered upon the answer.  Chalk it up to being a newbi.  I was not putting my apple tv to sleep and it would not allow me to see
you tube on my computer while it was still operating on my TV.  When I realized that, I put the apple tv to sleep and bingo, my computer runs you tube fine.   Thanks again for your response.

  • Open to a blank screen (NOT blank document) - Can it be done?

Is there a way to open to a blank screen (like when you click close on the document template screen)? I'd like to be able to be able to choose to open recent items without having to close the dialog. This is what I do most.

    Hi Timothy,
It might not be possible to open to blank screen, but here's a workaround:
    1. Go to Finder > File > New Smart Folder.
    2. In the first row, select Kind as the first search criteria and then "Others..."; type "pages" into the box (or select "Pages Publication")
    3. On the second row, choose Last Opened, Created or Last Modified, and then the time frame you want (last 2 weeks, for example).
    4. Click on Save (top right corner of the window).
This will create your own document launcher for Pages. Rather than using the "Open Recent" submenu from Pages use this smart folder to launch the docs you want. The folder can also be saved to your sidebar for easy access.
Not exactly what you wanted, but hopefully a helpful workaround.

  • When I click the View option to view a document on my insurance website, I only get a blank screen with words Mozilla Firefox, and below it, "Search Bookmarks and History" in the upper left corner of the screen.

This also happened at a bookseller's website, when I clicked on the photo of a book to enlarge it. Instead of showing me an enlargement, it took me to the same blank screen with the title bar, "Mozilla Firefox", and below it another bar with the words "Search Bookmarks and History," both at the top left of the screen. This has happened repeatedly at the two websites I have mentioned. When I went to the same sites using Internet Explorer, the error didn't occur. I did a Microsoft system restore for a previous restore point, but it still did not eliminate this glitch.

Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

This is not what happens.  The screen goes black, no curser or anything, then it comes right back on to the same page I was on when it went out.  It doesn't happen when I login, it happens as I am on a webpage or playing a online game.

  • Will a new MotherBoard cure Blank Screen with blinking cursor?

Stuck with Blank Screen with blinking cursor; ESC key couldn’t bring up Startup Menu; OS is not loading
Product Name: HP G62 237 CA Notebook PC
    Short description of the problems:
--- Press ESC key couldn’t bring up Startup Menu when booting up
--- Blank screen with blinking cursor thereafter
--- Stuck here forever and OS is not loading
    DETAILED INFORMATION:
    Product Name and Operating System:
Model: HP G62 237 CA Notebook PC
    O/S: Pre-loaded with Win 7 Home Prem
    Processor: Pent. Dual-Core CPU T4500 2.30GHz
    Memory: 4GB
    BIOS Ver. (Insyde): F.17
    System BOARD ID: 1484
    Product #: WQ767UA#ABC
    Product Config ID: 049C110000202710000020000
    Problem History:
--- Used to have frequent BSOD (got fixed later because of faulty RAM that I suspected)
    --- Window couldn’t be loaded
--- Window Repair and HP Recovery were tried but not functioning
--- OEM Hard Drive was then removed & formatted few times by using other computer
--- Hard Drive was then tested by other computer; it can be installed Win XP & Win 7
--- So, Hard Drive was eliminated from the suspect list
--- Replaced with other good RAM from other computers & put back the OEM Hard Drive to my HP G62; everything worked fine, such as: able to reinstall Win 7; listening to music files; got Internet to download latest BIOS from HP support site; connected to my 42 inched TV as my monitor; and even smoothly updated the BIOS from v.17 to v.37!
--- Also, able to receive Window Updates from the Internet; and seemed that all problems were nicely solved
--- Once I believe my system got stabilized; I went back to test the 2 supposedly problematic RAM to see whether they were both faulty or not, then the whole thing has turned around! Completely screwed me up until this moment …
--- After put back the problematic RAM, Window couldn’t be loaded …
--- With a few error messages… such as,
    --- The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum;
--- After the next reboot… an unexpected screen message showed up:
Intel ® Cantiga PCI Accelerated SVGA BIOS
    Build Number: 1932 PC 14.34 11/11/2009 02:36:14
    DECOMPILATION OR DISASSEMBLY PROHIBITED

--- After that, OS was not loading …
--- Press ESC key couldn’t bring up the Startup Menu during boot up
--- Blank screen with blinking cursor thereafter and seems stuck here forever
    Procedures performed for troubleshooting:
Tried hard reset for more than 5 times (removed battery, AC adapter disconnected and then hold down the Power button for more than 60 secs) and tried reseating memory too; same result with Blank Screen with blinking cursor after each reboot.
Connected to an external monitor [Fn + F4/F5] to see whether there was any display, nothing has showed on the external monitor, it seemed that no connection established between the two.
Finally, took the long journey to follow the Service and Maintenance Guide of HP G62 to remove the CMOS battery for well over 15 minutes and put it back. But the result was again disappointed. Tried 4 times already. The latest error message is:
The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default configuration and will be rebooted. Please check your BIOS Setup options to see if they change.
    CMOS Reset (502)
    ENTER – Reboot the system
After this message, the same Blank Screen with blinking cursor came back. And pressing the ESC key couldn’t bring up Startup Menu when booting up …
Note: the fan is still running; the Power button is functioning but seems stuck here forever!
I’ve already carefully read this HP Support document titled “HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing”:
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01443485#N144
If really is the BIOS problems, then I will have the difficulties of updating a Window-based BIOS when I couldn’t even load Window!
(Note: Boot from USB has no point because right now I couldn’t change the boot sequence because the various “Startup Menu” options are not showing up!)
Secondly, I am still stuck with the Blank Screen with a blinking cursor after I passed the first screen of “Press the ESC key for Startup Menu” when re-booted again!
Thirdly, I have formatted my Hard Drive more than 3 times during the last few days for testing; I don’t have the OEM pre-loaded Win 7 with me anyone … and I don’t think I have the UEFI installed previously on my system. I did try hold down the Win Key + B with the most updated BIOS in the attached USB …, it came back with the same blank screen with a cursor blinking after reboot.
Note: the Blank Screen I’m experiencing right now is not completely black, in fact, there is background light from behind the screen and on each reboot, I can see the HP logo and the left corner message of: “Press ESC key for Startup Menu” … So, I suppose that my computer screen is not physically broken at least.
    Requests:
Please explain to me that what are the problem areas and the root causes if is possible?
What steps or other tests can be done to make it work again?
Do you think replacing the entire MotherBoard can cure the Blank Screen with blinking cursor?
[Warranty: expired! I am the original purchaser & the end-user of this HP G62; acquired 2 years ago directly from a trustworthy source: staples (in Canada). Would HP Support still willing to service it for an extra charge?]
Thanks in advance for any suggestion and idea!

I'm not 100% sure of the model though (appologies). What do i need to do??

  • HP PavilionSlimline s34011fPC desktop w/ windows 7 hangs at a blank screen on wake-up

This function worked earlier. Now the computer starts the wake-up process but after 8 seconds (still a blank screen) everthing stops.  It hangs there with no computer activity , an d no response.  The only way out is to powe off. It comes back saying it didn't shut down properly.

    Hello @Shoeless_Joe,
I understand that your HP Pavilion Slimline s3012n Desktop PC has started wakng to a blank screen and that the issue was not there before. I recommend that you follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) to restore your computer back to a point in time where this was not an issue. I suspect an update of some kind is not working correctly and this should correct it and allow the update to come through again hopefully functioning correctly this time.
The Windows restore feature will not adversely affect any of your personal files, but any applications that have been installed or settings that have been changed between now and the date you restore back to will have to be reinstalled or re-changed.
Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Hp Omni 100 5050 blank screen on start up

2 days ago I put my PC in sleep mode and when I went to get back on it was unresponsive with mouse and keyboard. The light near the power button was on, but I powered down and powered back up and PC powers up, but now the light near power button is not working and neither my keyboard or mouse. The light is on where power cord is plugged in back of PC and where you can insert a CD/DVD light working. I have tried the Bios resetting from the forums troubleshooting no go. Power cord good and tested keyboard on another device and that is working. Not sure what else I can do? Any suggestions on possible fixes would be great! Thank you

    Hello @Kerngren,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

  • Blank screen on dv6 series!!!!!

First of all sorry if this topic already exists but I'm not sure if its the same problem. I have a dv6-2105so and dv9091ea. They are both bought in Sweden. They were working properly until a problem occured during turning on. When I try to turn them on they have a blank screen. Its black and there is nothing else. Sometimes an HP logo shows up and dissapears. Several months ago my computer would sometimes shutdown suddenly, usually when CPU usage is high. Dv9091ea didn't shutdown suddenly. Then few weeks later when I turned it on I got a blank screen for the first time. I tryed to turn it on moments later and it turned on normally, without any blank screen. But blank screen continued to occur more often and now I can't turn any of them at all. Thanks ahead.

pavilion dv6 blank screen caps lock light on blinking F11 F12 light on (red)

    Hello kiranreddy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that your Notebook is not starting, that you have a blank screen and flashing LED's. I will try to help you with this.
I would like you to start with this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps. This will help to try to identify if the Notebook is providing an error code. If it is, it will also provide steps to attempt to resolve the issue.
Please let me know how you make out with this. If you require further assistance with this please provide the Model and Product numbers for your Notebook. (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?)
