Blank screen on my iMac and blinking power light.

Earlier today, my 20" iMac screen went completely blank, but I could still hear the fan working, so I'm pretty sure it believes itself to be on. I tried to restart it by holding the power button down, but it idn't work. Now, I can still hear the fan working, and the power light is blinking continuously. Can anyone try and help me out?

The same thing is happening to me right now. For reference, I posted this thread as well

Did you get it fixed?

  • IMac G5 blinking power light / won't turn on

When my iMac G5 is hooked up to power, the power light (front bottom right panel) faintly blinks once every 2 seconds or so. The monitor is not on at all, and the computer does not appear to be running (no sounds).
All other devices hooked up to that particular power outlet are working fine, and pressing the power button does nothing. Holding the power button down halts the blinking, but when I let go the blinking resumes.
I have also tried removing all devices attached to the computer, including the keyboard and mouse.
This machine was working fine on friday, but when I came back into work today (monday) the machine was 'off' and nothing I do seems to cause any change.
    Very confused, any help appreciated.

It may be that your Power Supply Unit is failing, look at the suggestions here, try them and if nothing works, call Apple. If you have a Rev A, you may qualify for the Repair Extension Program. (sorry to assume you didn't know about sleep, sometimes very basic things are not known to posters).
Please let me know how you make out,

  • Satellite A85-s107 - blank screen on boot up using battery power

Satellite A85-s107 blank screen on boot up using battery power
When I boot up A85-s107 in battery power, it is getting booted up in the background, but my screen is blank.
After that if I connect it to AC power and switch off/on the laptop power button, the display comes back to life.
There is no problem when I boot up when connected to AC power.
Battery is fully charged and computer will run off battery if I remove AC after boootup
    Any suggestions?
    Ps:
also notice that when I remove AC and then reconnect I have to start the computer twice as it doesnt boot the 1st time?

    hi nick34_99,
sounds to me like a bad charging electronic...
i got this issue on my sat3000 too, but only when battery is not fully charged...
start the unit with a dos-disc (freedos has an cd image) and let the battery run "dry"...
after that boot without battery (ac-adapter connected of course) and log on.
after that shut down insert battery and try with batt only....
this trick has done magic on my machine...

I have a blue veritcal line going down the middle of my screen turned my iMac and it showed up. What can that mean?

Hard to help without knowing which variant of iMac you have. They've been in continuous production since 1998 in four major families, and what works for one familiy of iMac may not work to diagnose one from another family.
Doing "About ths Mac" will show the processor info. Post what it says about your processor (and Mac OS version while you are there) and that will narrow what family of iMac you have.
This forum section is for the three iMac families made before 2006.

You repeat yourself frequently frequently.  Perhaps your iPhone is not charged.

  • White screen and flashing power light?????

I've had this macbook pro for 8 months now. No problems with it so far. Today i was live streaming some tv shows and the computer froze, however i was able to move the mouse. I manually turned it off and now when i turn it back on i get a white screen and the power light flashes. After waiting a few minutes it still does this. Every time i turn it on and off it does the same thing. I'm not too good with fixing comps, does anyone know what this means, whether its serious and how i can fix it????
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!! Im in panic mode i really need this computer for my studies.
    thanks!

White screen, or gray? If it's gray, and the latch light is flashing, either 1 flash per second or a triple-flash-pause-repeat, that indicates a RAM issue. Try uninstalling and re-installing the RAM (sometimes they become loose). Instructions are here:

  • WRT54GS v1.0 Firmware needed, Blinking Power Light

No download available and none available via Linksys Live Chat or FTP and having spent the best part of the week trying to find relevant firmware on other forums I decided to come here to get answers to the following questions, hopefully from version 1.0 experienced owners or not.
#1. Can the firmware of version 2.0 and 3.0 be reduced to flash version 1.0?
#2. When diagnosing the blinking power light issue by connecting directly to the router and the network card using "ping -t 192.168.1.xxx" which network address do I use, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 to 2xx?
I get a reply using 192.168.1.1 but I'm not sure that helps when using the TFTP Utility if it's the wrong address on my Laptop to ping?
Anyway I'm stuffed without the right firmware anyway so I need your help with that first please, anyone with UNBRICKING knowledge.
    All Help Much Appreciated

Thanks Stephanie67, below is what I found. It appears to be the correct firmware by the description anyway. Do you know if this firmware is loaded the same way via the web interface like the firmware provided by Linksys?

  • SERVER PROLIANT DL380 G5 Blinking Power Lights

Was hoping someone could help with an issue that has started happening.  We recently updated the UPS backups to our server/phone systems and seem to be having problems when the UPS goes to battery power.  The server crashes and the power light on the back of the server starts to blink (which is not an option on what the lights are supposed to do in the manual).  The fans also seem to go a bit haywire also (rev up, then off).
when on normal power they are green, but when on battery they blink.  I don't think it is a server issue, but possibly the output wave generated by the UPS.  Has anyone come across anything similar?  The UPS (there are 2/one for each power supply on the server) keeps all the other systems up and running (phones/network ports).  The server is the only one that seems to not like the battery power.  Load on each UPS is less than 20% when I unplug the UPS to force it to battery power.

    Hi:
You may also want to post your question in the HP Business Support Forum -- DL Servers section.

  • Sudden shut down, left with blinking power light (NOT in sleep mode)

Last night I boosted the RAM on my iMac G5 20" from 1.25GB to 2GB (added 1GB from Crucial.com). This morning I have twice experienced something I have never come across before.
I was using Garageband (my most memory intensive app) and the iMac just shut down w/o warning. I was left only with a flashing power light (and the power light on my USB music keyboard was flashing, too). It was NOT in sleep mode, and at first it would not start up again at all. It continued flashing even after the power was disconnected. After a few minutes the power button eventually started up the computer again.
This exact same scenario has occurred twice in 30 minutes.
A search of Apple support has simply told me that the flashing power light is to indicate sleep mode. Again, the computer was definitely not sleeping.
Any thoughts? Your help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to discussions - have you tried removing your new RAM stick to see if the problem goes away? You might also try resetting your SMU.
    Please post back.

  • My iPod shuffle, which I prchased in 2009 only worked for a short time so I put it back in the box and just recently took it out. I will not charge and the power light does not come on. It was faulty from the start and thought I was out the money I paid.

My iPod shuffle only worked for a short time. It will not charge  and the power light does not come on. Bought it in 2009. Put it back in the box and in my desk. Recently tried to get it to work again but no luck. Anyone else have this problem? Very disappointed with the product although my wifes work perfectly.

Can't say I haven't done the same kind of thing...keep finding things I had every intention of...
If you have the chance stop by an Apple Retail store and talk to them about it...they often work deals for replacement of out of warranty non-working items for prices around half price.  Won't hurt to stop by and see what they will do for you.

  • Wireless TV connect blinking power light

I have a Wireless TV Connect.  Recently the TV adapter shows a blinking POWER light.  I know the LINK light will blink as it searches for the PC adapter.  However, this is the power light.  The LINK light for the TV adapter is always off.  I didn't see any explanation of a blinking power light in the Quick Setup guide.  What does a blinking power light for the TV adapter mean?

Read the technical support pages for your router model. There is an article on the blinking power light somewhere. It describes in detail how to load a new firmware to the router using tftp. Try this procedure.
If it fails try to do what I have posted here.

  • IMac black screen and flashing power light

I installed several system updates on my 2007 iMac last night, running OS 10.7, and today I can only get a black screen with a flashing white power light when I try to start up. My computer will neither start up nor completely shut down, and my wired keyboard won't communicate either. Help!

    Power down, unplug if needed.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.

  • IPhone 4 crashed, blank screen, broken home button, and iTunes won't allow access unless I "respond with phone," how do I reboot or get my data off this phone?

The power button on my iPhone broke a few months ago, so I have been using the assisted touch feature to lock the screen.  Last night, in the middle of using an app, the phone froze and nothing working except the assisted touch icon (I could use it and move it around). I locked the screen using this, which evidently was a mistake, because now I have a blank screen that won't respond to anything. When I connect the charger, the phone still makes the normal sounds and vibrations, but the screen is blank.  I can't do a hard reboot without the power button.  I recently bought a new computer, so today I downloaded iTunes, but iTunes wants me to "respond with the phone" in order to continue.  How can I at LEAST upload my contacts, photos and video from this phone?  Or is there a trick I can try to bring it back from this black screen that is non-responsive?  And NO...I'm not interested in putting it in the freezer!!

Honestly the hard really right now to say what you can do. How long have you had the device? If it's under a year you can take it to apple store and they can switch it out for free. If it's over a year then it would be at a paid cost cause they can't fix that issue.
    Hope this helps.
