Blank tabs keep opening by themselves in Safari

Every few minutes, 1-2 blank tabs open by themselves in Safari. The address bar briefly shows a link to "trc.taboola.com" before clearing out and opening a blank, untitled tab. I have AVG on my Mac and also ran AdwareMedic but they haven't found anything. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I do not have Comcast, though I have seen that Comcast users had that issue. My ISP is Time Warner.
I tried the above solutions to no avail. The only extension I have installed is Adblock Plus.
Problem description:
Blank tabs open by themselves in Safari.

hi! i'm having a problem with my safari as unnecessary new tabs keeps opening overtime i open some link! is anyone experiencing something like this !

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • With multiple tabs open, and selecting a new (blank) tab, RoboForm open new web page in far left tab, not the new (blank) one. How to correct this?

Problem: Firefox Browser Tabs when using RoboForm
When using Tabs in the Firefox browser (with multiple Tabs already open), I (1) click to open a new (blank) tab and then, (2) click on RoboForm to go to a new website. Instead of the new website opening in the newly opened (blank) tab it opens in the first (far left) tab. This only began happening when I installed Firefox 5.0 and RoboForm Desktop v7.3.2 at the same time.
My system: HP Pavilion Media center, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 8GB RAM, Firefox v5.0, Roboform Desktop v7.3.2

Thanks a lot. The culprit turned out to be Webmail Notifier. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problems on their end that the developer has not yet responded to, but something about the extension is screwing up tab functionality.
    Thanks!

  • Neither CTRL T or clicking on the blank tab button opens a new tab.

I am running Windows 7 and for the last few days, since the latest update on Tuesday morning, I have not been able to open a blank tab in FIREFOX 3.6. Last night I uninstalled FIREFOX and then downloaded it. Still I can not get a blank tab to open.

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar extension.

  • When I click on a link, multiple(and by multiple, I mean a ton) blank tabs open. The only way to stop more blank tabs from opening is to close out of firefox completely. Do I have a virus or do I need to change my settings?

If I click on something to open in a new tab or click on someone's email to open Outlook, instead of doing that, a bunch of blank tabs open. I'm fine with a couple blank tabs, but they keep opening. The only way to stop the tabs from opening is to close out of firefox entirely. When I try to reopen firefox, blank tabs again begin to reopen. You can't close out of them fast enough because they keep opening. To stop opening the blank tabs, you must restart firefox a second time.
Is this a virus or something wrong with my firefox settings??

Firefox includes options of how to handle different content types, in your case the mailto links are probably set to "Use Firefox". For details of how to fix this see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section "Change the action for a content type".

    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
         http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once adware is removed, quit the app by clicking AdwareMedic in the menubar
        and selecting “Quit AdwareMedic”.
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.
    3. If AdwareMedic is blocked or “Server not found”, try this.

  • Tabs keep opening on their own even though I only work in new windows.

Since the last Thunderbird update I'm having trouble with random(?) emails opening in tabs, even though I don't use tabs. It's annoying to have to keep closing all these tabs that I didn't open and don't even use in any way. It's a distraction. I'd just disable the tabs bar altogether if that was possible, but I guess it's not an option.
In Tools-Options-Advanced-Reading&Display, I have selected "Open messages in - a new message window", as it's been for a long time. When I click on an email, that setting works normally. I've read that double-clicking an email can cause it to open in a tab, but I can't reproduce that behavior, so I don't believe that's the cause. When I notice the random open tabs, its usually right after starting up Thunderbird for the day. There are usually three open email tabs. I don't leave emails open when I close the program at night - I just haven't figured out a pattern or cause for this annoying behavior. Seems like a bug to me, and I can't seem to stop it from happening. Any ideas?

  • Occasionally clicking on a link begins an endless loop where new tabs keep opening - can this be prevented?

see link in email - click - new tabs open, quickly and endlessly. click on red box and firefox recovers and continues opening new tabs - all blank and empty; shut again and then there are about 20 open empty tabs when I open again

None of this will, in all likelihood, address your actual issue, but:
Close your resources in the reverse order you opened them. That means ResultSet, Statement and finally Connection
Speaking of finally, make sure you close your resources within a finally block. That is what they are there for. You need the resources freed regardless of whether the request was successful or not
Move the System.out.println() out of the loop. You are not connecting every time. You are fetching records every time. It is misleading.
Do not use SELECT *. Always explicitly label what columns you are selecting. Otherwise, another developer has to go to the actual table, describe it, and see what is coming out.
Please use the code formatting tags (see button above when posting). It is far too difficult to read otherwise.- Saish

  • When I open firefox previously viewed tabs keep opening instead of the home page and I can't get rid of them

All I can do is minimise each tab, open my home page from favourites, and then press the red X in the minimised box.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.

  • When I open PDF's multiple tabs keep opening. I tried on multiple websites and it does the same thing when trying to open PDF.

So here is the deal. I try to open a PDF to view on any website and it opens numerous amounts of tabs, never stopping, tab after tab after tab.
I went to Dells site to try and view a manual, I went to honeywell site to try and view a pdf.

Make sure that you don't have Firefox selected as the '''Action''' for PDF files, Adobe Reader should be the program to be used.

  • Old not needed tabs keep opening

FF 3.6 opens tab to "Ask your question for PayPal" even though I had question answered two months ago. I've tried "powering down" PC and telling FF on restart to "Start New" instead of opening the same tabs it had opened before I pulled the rug out from under it.
    Please advise.
Thanks, Scot L. Diddle, Richmond VA

I have this incredibly annoying issue too! Except it started since I "upgraded" to Firefox 4. I quickly click on a tab and start scrolling down and it opens in a new window: I'm pretty sure I'm not dragging my mouse, since my hand movement didn't suddenly change for whatever reason after switching to FF4.

  • I want to permanently unpin and remove a tab, but the pinned tab keeps opening whenever I restart Firefox.

I accidentally pinned a tab. Now every time I open Firefox it is there, even if I unpin and close, or just close the tab and restart the browser.

This somehow fixed itself after a couple of days of unpinning. I'm not sure what I did but if it comes back I will try your method. I just had a look in the about:config page and couldn't find either browser.newtabpage.pinned, nor browser.newtabpage.blocked, but that may be because I no longer have anything pinned.
    Thank you.

  • New tabs keep opening spontaneously and I get the messsageThe URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.

This usually happens whenever I right click for a new tab or click a link. The unwanted tab always has the URL http://xn--3!1 -fua0do447bmv6g/#%C5%93%C3%8E%06%E2%80%99Ucr%C2%B7%C3%80 and I am constantly having to close these tabs.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br />

  • In Safari on a MacBook Pro, how do you open a new blank tab while leaving the site you were on still on another tab?

This is my first Mac computer, and this may be a silly question, but I can't find the answer anywhere else. Anyway, is there a way to open a new tab that's blank? Like in iPhones, you can click new page, and a blank page opens up. Anyway that's possible on Macs? Or do I just need to download Chrome?

A new tab can be obtained with command-t, or via the File menu, or with the + sign at the end of the tabs, or....
What happens when a new tab is opened is determined via Safari > Preferences > General.
You will want to select "Empty page" under "New tabs open with".

  • How do I block Roblox tab from opening In Safari 7.0.4?

Since last night, http://www.roblox.com has been popping up in a new tab in Safari. I can't find anyway to block it. It's a tab -- not a new window. I can't get in touch with their support unless I sign up for the game. Which I'm not going to do.
It's really annoying. And it won't stop. (I have reset Safari.)
And now since I've been trying to post this, Mackeeper tabs keep opening. What's going on?????
TIA for any help you can give me.
