blank tabs open randomly opens without my permissions.installed about three different addons for firefox to remove and suppress those blank tabs.which spring out like mushrooms.plz help me solve this problem.

Either change the file action in "Tools > Options > Applications" for that MIME type or file extension or if you do not find it there then you need to delete the file mimeTypes.rdf in the Firefox Profile Folder

If I click on something to open in a new tab or click on someone's email to open Outlook, instead of doing that, a bunch of blank tabs open. I'm fine with a couple blank tabs, but they keep opening. The only way to stop the tabs from opening is to close out of firefox entirely. When I try to reopen firefox, blank tabs again begin to reopen. You can't close out of them fast enough because they keep opening. To stop opening the blank tabs, you must restart firefox a second time.
Is this a virus or something wrong with my firefox settings??Firefox includes options of how to handle different content types, in your case the mailto links are probably set to "Use Firefox". I have 9 tabs open on Firefox every morning when I start work. Today the tabs are not there. I re-loaded the tabs and about 10 minutes later, Firefox closed without warning. When I went to open Firefox again, the tabs were gone again. I checked the options box under Tools, and the "show my windows and tabs from last time" is already loaded. Please help!

Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js .

Everytime I close a tab a new blank tab opens on its own.
Hi,
I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 and it's a while that I'm facing this problem. Anytime I click the little X to close the tab (sometimes I have to click it 2-3 times) it closes the tab but a new blank tab opens itself. For example when I start with 1 tab, open 3 tabs from that page so I have 4, I want to go to another site and close everything about my first site. Then Firefox gives me the new site + 4 blank tabs that can't be closed.
When I open Firefox it works well but after 10-15 minutes or I don't know maybe 1 hour or so this problem appears.
I did not install any new plugin or extension (maybe updated my existing plugins) .
It's not a virus,malware or anything. I'm using Avast home edition (Free) and it updates itself every day several times. I also scanned my system with tdsskiller (read on a forum that solves the problem, but it didn't).
I'm using firefox for years, but this problem is happening only from a week ago.

2X2GB Ramdo you have any toolbars or extensions installed in windows control panel > software or in firefox addons-manager > extensions, that might cause this behaviour? try running firefox in [[Safe Mode]] (close all other instances of firefox and open the browser while holding the shift key) and see if the problem is persisiting there to diagnose the issue...

from the system details you've submitted it appears that you are using a out of date version of firefox and a out of date version of the java plugin - both are a severe security issue! there were [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html dozens of vulnerabilities fixed] since the release of firefox 6. and java versions before 6 update 31 are vulnerable to drive-by-infections (your pc can get infected with malware by simply visiting a website), which are widely exploited in the wild.
i'd recommend that you update both programs as soon as possible: visit getfirefox.com &, java.com; and although you already have a working anti-virus software in place, i'd suggest that you run another full scan of your system with the free anti-malware tool from www.malwarebytes.org in addition (tdsskiller was just a scanner for rootkits). -

Upgraded to Firefox 4, and have a number of tabs open, and for no reason a tab will clear the loaded page and default to a bing search page, when I check extensions and addons there is no sign of bing so havent a clue how it is doing this

In detail here's what happens:
the window that responds when I double click to open a file always says "Opening..." and names the file; then says--
which is a: Application; then shows--

But it gives me only 1 of 2 options--
either "Save File" or "Cancel"
but never ever actually lets me open that file !
...Also, strangely, a number of my desktop icons have been changed
to Firefox icons (with the shortcut arrow still within), and some of them (like Apple Safari) refuse to return to the original icon when I try to click back to the original icon. Very weird.I am not a Vista user. I am assuming the icons have changed to a firefox icon because you or; some application or other user; have set the default option for those file types to open with firefox.
You will be able to change that in your registry settings but it is far safer to use some other option. I am not sure how to do that in Vista.
RealPlayer.exe is an executable file, that is it is an application presumably a media player, if you try to open it with firefox; whicjch is what happens if you click its firefox icon; it will just give you the options to open or save the file. If you use the open option it may work as intended. -
The file is a .pdf. My bank lets me "view" my monthly statement. It opens in Adobe, and I save the file. Since I updated to v4, all I get is a blank tab. I updated Adobe Reader and the Adobe plug in. Still get a blank tab. I un-installed v4 and installed v3.6.1.6 and it works just fine. I'd like to use v4, if I could get this problem solved. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.
Did you post from the system that has the problem? (Your "More System Details" list shows Flash 11.7 instead of 11.8 for some reason.)
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash ''(I see from your post that you've done this part)''
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Just noticed that I can open FF in a new window but cannot get to any tabs already opened in the other window. The first time I experienced a problem was when I opened one tab too many. I guess it was over 20 tabs open at once, but have now only 8-10 open.
Just remembered, it could have happened after yahoo installed itself on the toolbar, then as a menu item. I declined this every time it asked to install, but it went ahead and I cannot remove it now.My scroll also doesn't work in Firefox -- but does in Excel and Word. This has been intermittent for months now. Usually, if I reboot the scroll would begin working again until for no apparent reason it quits again. Now even the reboot doesn't fix the no-scroll problem. I have Windows Vista. I even did a Firefox Update to 9.0.1.
I don't have that file on my about:config page so this solution won't work for me.

Sometimes I have tabs open that I only need for a short time and I don't want to bookmark them. I want my windows & tabs restored as the were and I can't get this by simply restoring session after I've had to close Firefox for an update of something else on my computer.

When opening a PDF file I get multiple blank tabs open up instead.

You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an Open with download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type. -
Having more then one tab open causing firefox to hang
When I have facebook,TWIT live video running and have more tabs open and switch from TWIT live video to Facebook or another tab it start to hang on me and I can't get to any tabs. I have to go to Windows Task Manager and it say not responding and have to end Firefox 4.0. Beta 6.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

With one blank tab open, using 487MB and 27 threads
Usually have some tabs such as facebook, yahoo, and a couple of others open within one window. I always find that the memory bloats and bloats to almost a gig sometimes.
Even upon initial opening of Firefox, the Activity Monitor shows 26 or more threads.
