Blank thumbnails / not solved by Opt + Cmd

Hi there...
I am using iPhoto 9.2 and I am realising now that many of the thumbnails have gone blank. Photos are still there, but not the thumbnails. I have tried the standard proposed solution (opt + cmd & iPhoto, and then rebuild everything in every conceivable combination) to no avail. Has any of you come to another, alternative solution?
If I have to re-install the whole thing... is there any way to backup JUST the originals, and not the entire library (I am assuming that the problem is in the library itself...)?

The usual solution:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work
However, if that hasn't worked after 4 or so goes:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Multiple undos opt+cmd+z not working in CC 2014

Hello, I am on a new mac book pro with CC 2014 installed and I have no ability to undo multiple times...? This problem has happened since I upgraded to 2014. I have checked the keyboard shortcuts and the same shortcut as before (in CC) is active as shown in the image, step forward (using shift etc) works fine but 'Opt+CMD+Z' doesn't. It's not a keyboard issue as it is a new keyboard and the 'opt' key works fine with other apps.
Any thoughts or help would be most appreciated.

Yes I have done that - I mapped CMD + Z but that kind of gets in the way of years of habit and is a bit frustrating and confusing when you're working quick etc...
It does work fine doing that (I have just uninstalled 3 versions of Photoshop and reinstalled CC 2014 and still no multiple undos on OPT + CMD + Z?! It's like it won't accept the key combination because if you go into map back to OPT + CMD + Z after changing it to CMD + Z it won't let you. You have to revert to default to even get that option back. C'est bizarre...non?

IPhoto Preview Thumbnails not showing up in FrontRow

When cycling through my albums and slideshows I am not seeing the preview images to the left of the iPhoto titles. I tried rebuilding the iPhoto Thumbnails and database using the Cmd-Opt keys when starting iPhoto and that still did not do it. The odd thing is if I edit an image in iPhoto and it saves the new file then a preview shows up in Front Row. Then you can see that Front Row is trying to cycle throught the rest of the thumbnails since the preview area stutters a bit. The images in my iPhoto library are all JPEGs and when I look in the /users/me/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Data/YYYY/ ... There are thumbnails in those directories as I would expect. I am using a brand new iMac and I did a firewire transfer of my stuff from my powerbook al when I took the machine out of the box. I also deleted all my iPhoto pictures in my library (I have a backup) using iPhoto and started adding fresh jpegs...still the same behavior. I posted this problem on the Front Row forum and Doug feels this is an iPhoto problem. Is this a bug? Is there a preference setting that I am missing?

Thanks, The photos appear in iPhoto in the expected manner. I looked for a front row cache and Doug in the Front Row forum seemed to think that Front Row is just dipping into the iPhoto Thumbnails instead of having its own "cache". Seems like I am in a stalemate hear. I am fairly new to the Mac community. My last Mac was an SE30, which went out of my life long ago. Is there any way to find out if this a bug or bring this to Apple's attention?

IPhoto can't click on on options (after OPT-CMD) startup

I am using iPhoto 9.3.2 (670.63) under Mountain Lion (10.8.1). The thumbnails are showing up wrong pictures so I do a OPT-CMD startup of iPhoto. After iPhoto pop up with the dialog box to select the "rebuild thumbnail" option, I cannot click the blue "Rebuild" button to start the process. And after then, it seems that iPhoto will not response to any mouse clicks at all.
I have this problem on both of my Notebook and iMac with same OS and iPhoto versions.
Can anybody here help me out how to fix this and rebuild all the thumbnails?

Hi, kyndall. The last free version of iPhoto was 2.0.1. iPhoto 2.0 used to be available from Apple as a free download, but no longer. To upgrade to any newer version than the one you have, you'll need to buy the iLife suite. iLife is included on the model-specific installer discs that have been shipped with new Macs since late 2003/early 2004, but not on retail OS X installer discs.
iLife '08 is the current version, and can be obtained from the online Apple Store or any Mac reseller. The older iLife '04, '05 and '06 are available used from various sources including EBay. System requirements for all four versions are here. Review them carefully to see which version(s) your iMac can handle.

HT4589 FCP X 10.0.7 blank thumbnails on import

I don't know if others have noticed this issue but on the new release (10.0.7) I sometimes don't see the thumbnail preview of the media in my import window (usually after importing some parts and then reopening the window to import more.. and no, it's not because I have hide imported clips checked off). The card is loaded but the thumbnails are all blue (no picture showing). If I click on the blank thumbnail then it will show the preview but as soon as I unclick then the thumbnail preview goes blank again. I have both stills and video on the same card (haven't tried to see if it's different if I only have one kind of media.) This media is from a 5DMKiii on a 600X Lexar CF card with Firewire connection to my MBP RD. This would happen occasionally on 10.0.6 (the nightmare update!) as well but never on the previous versions. If I exit and restart FCPX and restart the app then the problem is solved; but if I import and then come back and reimport I will sometimes see this problem. Anybody else has seen this problem? Is it just a bug? Have to wait for the next version again?!!

Yes Tom. That's the strange thing with the 10.0.6 update on. These problem occur with some folks and not others. After the 10.0.6 I had the same problem on my 3 MBPs that date back for each of the past three years including the brand new MBP RD with SSD. Since the problem was happening on all three it can't be computer based. However, because it happens for some folks and not others it would mean that some folks have software configurations that clash with FCPX's new code. Whether it was only due to the plugins or even possibly the presence of other applications on the whole system that interfere is anyone's guess. And that's been the frustrating part, the fact that some folks have the problems and others don't. I don't think anyone has yet found a common denominator. Of course, plugins were immediately judged to be an issue. But I don't know if anyone has come up with anything else yet. So, we'll see. Hopefully we'll get some resolution at some point. All I know is that 10.0.5 was the best editing software I have ever used. It was amazingly stable and everything worked beautifully. 10.0.7 has been a lot better than 10.0.6 but it still crashes occasionally and has these little quirky things.
Oh well. Hopefully we'll be back in track soon again.

MTS thumbnails not displaying in PrE9

I have a thumbnail problem. I just bought PrE9 because I was unhappy with Studio V14's slow/jerky performance with AVCHD. I have a Canon HF20 and used Windows to move the videos (MTS's) over to my harddrive. They are all HD videos in MTS format. My PC is a Dell Pentium D, 3.46GHz, 4GB DDS RAM, 1GB of "free" harddisk space, ATI 4670 Graphics Card.
I had imported a number of MTS files from my Canon to harddisk using Windows and then imported them from harddisk into Organizer. The thumbnails were blank so I deleted them and tried re-importing just one clip but got the same problem. The clip can be inserted into a timeline and shows up with the first frame of the video but has a blank thumbnail in both Organizer and PRE. They play fine in either PrE9 and Organizer. Any suggestions.

Thanks for posting the screenshots. Thumbnail drawing does not seem to be taking place at all.
I dont think it is a codec related problem because had that been the case the playback also wouldn't have worked.
There is another place the thumbnails are seen and that is the "Project" view. Can you check if the thumbnails are seen in this view ?
Also, on the system running Pentium D how much RAM do you have ? Adobe states a minimum of 2 GB RAM for avchd editing.
(Though I would recommend 3 or 4GB). And since on your other system which has 8GB RAM things appear to be fine, low RAM could be
a potential reason for thumbnails not being seen. Again, I am just speculating.

BB Curve 8350 quit email function. Can't load address for email setup..."blank entry not valid" even though info entered

HELP!! My BB quit sending/receiving emails 6 weeks ago. I tried to do the setup again, but error message says "Blank entry not valid" even though the info has been entered (Email & password) I tried to get help from Sprint but as they aren't supporting BB anymore, they just want me to upgrade.
I swapped devices this AM (8350 Black for 8350 Red) and the same issue on this device. Any assistance is welcome!!!

If they cannot resolve your issue ask them to escalate your case to RIM. it is what they are SUPPOSED to do when they cannot resolve a BlackBerry issue. Whoever you have been on the phone with does not know what they are doing.

Why do AVCHD (.mts) video thumbnails not appear in Organizer 8?

Thumbnails for video clips imported into Organizer 8 (via Premiere Elements 8) are not appearing for AVCHD (.mts) files. Numerous online forums show this is a common issue, however other than renaming file extensions from .mts to .m2ts, I have not found any other more practical solutions. Adobe customer service was of no help. Other proposed solutions such as installing new codecs have not solved the issue. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem on both systems that I run Premiere Elements 8 Organizer. All software and drivers are up to date.The only way that I can get thumbnails to display for AVCHD files in the Organizer, is to change the file extension from .mts to .m2ts. In my opinion, that is clearly a bug with the Organizer that must be fixed by Adobe ASAP. Organizing video without thumbnails is next to useless.
If you start a new project and open Premier Elements you can create the thumbnails for AVCHD files with the .mts extension by right clicking each one and selecting Update Thumbnail (which is laborious, at best). However, when you exit the project and go back to Organizer the thumbnails are still not there, nor can you create them. Next, go back into Elements and the thumbnails are there.
Can you say bug!
Update 07/15/10: I contacted technical support and they said that this is a known problem. The only solution, if you could call it that, is to use file renaming utility to change all your file extensions from .mts to .m2ts. I hope they fix this problem and release an update soon, as all I shoot these days is AVCHD with the Panasonic HDC-TM700K.

Thumbnails not appearing in iPhoto 6.

Recently when opening iPhoto'06 I got the drop-down to rebuild my thumbnails which I accepted. It was proceeding quite slowly for a while and then a sudden rush to completion (over 500 photos in there). Next thing, I have less than half of the thumbnails there before the re-building. I have searched Support and printed and read Article HT1261 which essentially talks about the opposite of what I have.
I have a blank thumbnail but if I double click to edit, a littel slowly, I get the picture in full. Working on it doesn't produce a new thumbnail though, still nada. Help? Please.

You've found the file... are the photos with it? That's the key question...
1. iPhoto will not import files from the active iPhoto Library Folder - this is a sensible precaution against duplication.
2. You're trying to import not a photo but a sql database file - it doesn't import anyway.
3. But given that you have found the folder and it's active (1 above) but there are no photos showing in the iPhoto Window then we can assume that the database file is damaged.
So, now we need to create an populate a new library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the +Originals folder+ only drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Blank Thumbnail images

After installing iPhoto 6, I now have literally at least 100 photos that are blank.
There is an grey outline box with a drop shadow and a smaller outline box within the larger one. When I select the "blank" photo, all I get is the endless color wheel and eventually I have to "Force quit" iPhoto.
I could certainly use some help.

So the missing pics correspond exactly to the ones that you trashed via the Finder?
1. Try: Treat the blank thumbnails as pics and move them to the iPhoto trash and empty the trash. (The correct way to remove pics from the iPhoto Library Folder btw)
If that doesn't work then I'm afraid your only option is to create and populate a new library.

Downgrading to 7.0.1 did not solve the white screen issue.

A little background - in early January, with a thesis presentation due, I delayed upgrading to Quicktime 7.0.4 until after the thesis - this was a good idea, because now after upgrading and downgrading again, I've got problems.
I made a video with Final Cut Pro - (assume I can no longer go back and output it again) and have the file as a .mov. Before upgrading, thesis era, I threw it into iDVD and got a DVD.
NOW I need to make more copies of the DVD so I go about re-creating the dvd in iDVD with the exact same files... and the video comes up blank. both in quicktime AND in iDVD.
I downgraded from 7.0.4 to 7.0.1 - but that did not solve the problem completely... sure, I get my audio back now, but the film is entirely white-screen...
I'm under a massive time deadline to make more copies of the DVD and I'm at a loss os what to do! Please help!!
I'm already deleted the receipts, downgraded from 7.0.4 -> 7.0.1... no fix.
tried going back to 7.0.3 from 7.0.1... no fix.
went BACK to 7.0.1 again.... no fix...

Conversion of value 'blank' to # (Not assigned)

We have extended the DataSource 0CA_TS_IS_1 with the field ZZAWART att/abs type. The component type is AWART and domain is AWART. This domain has no Conversion routine.
We have created a filter on this field in the dtp from one DSO to another DSO. In this filter we would like to add the value # (not assigned). Our problem is that when this field has no value in the source system, it is not converted to #.
I changed the conversion routine in the DataSource in BW to ALPHA and also changed the format from internal to external but this did not solve the problem.
How can we get the blank value converted to #?

It is a bit strange that you dont have the posibility to filter by equal to blank.
Don't choose the value from the match code in DTP, try the following:
1.- Press on the arrow (Multiple selection).
2.- In the "Select Single Value" tab you will have 2 fields (a) Options pushbutton (b) Single Value.
3.- Click on the PushButton for the first row, ther you will have some option: (a) = Single Value; (b) >= Grather than or equal to; (c) <= Less than or Equal to; (d) > Greater than; (e) < Less than; (f) <> Not Equal to.
4.- Choose (a) = Single Value, and leave the Select Value column in blank.

Blank Thumbnails in Library

In the Library in iPhoto I have many blank thumbnails. It is not possible to select one of these blanks and then see it, the spinning wheel turns grey, it all runs very slow and I then force quit the application. It is possible to select the blanks and then delete them. However, any operation with them takes forever. I have tried to rebuild the library using the hold-down of the apple and option kexs when launching iPhoto but the problem is still there.
Can any body please suggest what to do? Are the blanks actual photos, or just a 'ghost' in the machine?

If your database is corrupted, then you do lose the albums, keywords, and other iPhoto metadata. You said you tried the option-command-launch rebuild, but that was before manually deleting those zero kb jpeg files. You could try the auto rebuild again, but I'd guess the chances of it helping are slim.
One final thing to try before starting a new library is to download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. It uses a different file to restore the library than the iPhoto rebuild, and can sometimes restore a library when iPhoto cannot. It's another slim chance, but may be worth the effort if it goes well. If it fails, it won't make anything worse. Plus, the iPLM Help gives good descriptions of how iPhoto works and may shed light on what happened to your library. I learned a lot just by reading their information.
And no, I can't explain the thousands of zero kb jpeg files in your library. Had you copied the library folder over to another drive and back? Did your hard drive get low on disk space? Prior to this trouble, had you ever used the Finder to change or delete the files inside your iPhoto Library folder? You could see if your hard disc needs repairs with Disk Utility. If it comes up with a long list of errors that would be a clue. You would be wise to repair the disk (in that case) before trying to repair your iPhoto library.

I am working on a page with all the layers hidden.
So the thumbnail is blank
When I show a layer it appears on the page.
The thumbnail however does not change.

The behavior is same in Acrobat 11 as well. The thumbnails do not get refreshed till you close the document and reopen.
