Blank Window Screen, Start-Up from Window- Can't go back to Mac OS
I just bought an i3 iMac desk top (with 1080 screen default setting) only 3 days ago.
I tried to install Window 7 which I believe was SUCCESSFUL.
However it ended quickly and the screen went blank which I did not know was end of the process and Window 7 does not read the display.
I did not get to load Bootcamp driver for Window as I used iso image for Windows 7 (from an academic arrangement and done the same by a teacher who recommends the process) and the installation did not allow me to do so before the Window screen showed up blank.
So I switched off and restarted the iMac and checked the bootcamp for Window software in Mac OS. As far as I could tell, they are all there.
So I went to System Preference and selected Start UP for Windows instead of Mac OS- without changing the display mode (for lower resolution) which is recommended by the instructions (forgot to try that).
I then cold booted the machine again- it told me that I had shut down Window incorrectly in the first place and asked me how to boot up Window and I clicked on the normal start for Window. Window logo did come up then blank screen after a small number of seconds.
I turned off the machine and started the machine again. Again, 'incorrect shut down of Window and thing'. The Window logo did come and then blank screen.
The machine now start up in Windows but the screen is blank.
Is there anyway I can get back to START UP from Mac OS?
Help this is horrible........ This is first time I tried to use Windows for personal use since 1985. This bad.... I wish Apple just do the installation of Windows for people that want to use Windows as well as Mac OS to eliminate this type of horror only related to Windows. I am only using Windows for the course I am doing and for a couple of software from the course. I am no tech person at all. That is why for 25 years I only have bought Mac for my personal use. We should all write to Apple and ask them to install Windows for those that want to have it on their iMac to save all of us the problems which seem a lot from this forum.
Please help with suggestions..... I am DESPERATE........
Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... Windows 7 32-bit from original disc.

I am obviously stupid! I just bought an iMac 27 was working in Mac mode with parallel making me able to go to bootcamp i.e PC mode.. Somehow managed to open my computer in PC mode and I do not know how to go back to Mac?? Yes you can, however it is A LOT easier if you make a 10.6 TimeMachine (disconnect it) and/or (best) a 10.6 Carbon Copy Cloner bootable clone. (disconnect it too)
TimeMachine drives are not bootable, so you will require your 10.6 install disk (slow) to be perfectly functional to boot and perform the ENTIRE drive erasure required to restore the 10.6 TimeMachine copy (slow) to the internal drive.
With a 10.6 bootable clone on a external drive, it's hold the option key bootable, so your up in seconds on the 10.6 clone and can be erasing the entire internal drive while surfing the web.
Also if your 10.6 disk is not working, the clone is, so it's another bootable backup.
Most commonly used backup methods
The other more complicated method to restore 10.6 on a machine that was upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8 is to extract all one's files into a neutral state on a external storage drive. (not TiThen use the 10.6 disk to wipe everything and reinstall 10.6 fresh, then programs then files.
10.7 and 10.8 changes things in the User/Library, so you can't just restore from TimeMachine backwards.
Also newer versions of programs from Apple changes their support files, like iTunes Library and iPhoto Library, so it's a lot more work extracting your original mp3's and jpg's for reimportation into 10.6 versions of those programs.
How to revert your Mac to Snow Leopard -
It doesn't seem to matter what project I'm working on... the picture in the viewer is gone. All I see is a blank (white) screen. If I put the cursor over the viewer and drag to the timeline, the clip will appear on the time line (and in the canvas) but I don't see it in the viewer. I usually edit my clips in the viewer and not on the canvas. Can anyone explain why this might be happening and how I might fix. I'm suspecting I must have messed up one of the settings but I'll be darned if I can figure out which one or how to fix. Please help!
David. Thank you very much. The problem was not with the canvas but rather the Viewer. But the solution was the same. Somehow, the Viewer window was re-set to Alpha. I changed it back to RGB.... and the picture is back. These issues are often very simple.... but they can drive you bats if you don't know the answer. Very grateful. Tim

I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times today, even redownloaded the .exe from adobe. All with the same effect.

HT1533 How can I switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7 Bootcamp?
I'm having problem switching back to Mac OS on my Macbook Air. It's currently running Windows 7 bootcamp without a Mac OS installed with it. I tried booting up on Mac OSX installer disc (Snow Leopard) on the external CDROM drive but it boots to Windows instead. I tried the Boot Camp Control Panel on Windows and Restart to Mac OS X but it could not find an OS X intalled and I tried changing the startup disc to the installation disc on the CDROM and restarted but still goes to Windows.
Please HELP!
Thank you.The MBA did not ship with an OS on DVD because they don't have an optical drive. There are two kinds of OS disks - commercial release, which for Snow Leopard is 10.6.3 I believe, and machine specific. If your SL disk is gray it isn't going to boot your MBA because it isn't made for the MBA. If your SL disk has a cat on it look at what specific version it is. As I said, I think it is 10.6.3 and while I wasn't able to find out what specific OS version your MBA shipped with, I'm pretty sure it was a version later than 10.6.3 and if I'm right your disk isn't going to boot the computer. You'll need to either contact Apple for a valid replacement installer or find someone with a Mac who can make a valid installer on a USB drive or DVD.

A friend of mine played this cruel prank to me... he erased everything on my mac and installed windows 7 on it... at least he backed up my data... but whatever i just want to go back to mac and i've tryed everything and it doesnt work... please help!
Shootist007's advice relies on several assumptions. In order for that to work, you would need to have a recent Mac with Lion installed, or a somewhat recent Mac with Lion and the latest firmware update installed.
Also, there's probably an easier way. How did your "friend" (whose a** deserves a good kicking) back up your data? If he used Time Machine to back up the entire system, you can simply erase the hard drive and restore that system. See:

If he made a "clone" of your old system, simply boot from the clone, erase your internal hard drive and clone everything back, using a tool like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.
If reinstalling the system is necessary and you're not using Lion, you'll want to boot from your Mac OS X install disk by inserting it and restarting, then holding down the 'c' key until the Apple logo appears.
Edit: Oh, and you should start making your own backups. If you don't have any backups of your own, it's entirely possible that your "friend's" stunt could have destroyed valuable data. What happens if the drive he backed up to wasn't much good and fails before you get the data restored? You need to have a minimum of two complete, separate backups. -
Window 7 has taken over my IMac and I can't get back to Mac OS
I have been running window 7 with bootcamp for about a month. Until recently, I could click the bootcamp icon in the windows systray and restart in Mac OS. Well, this week, I could no longer see the Bootcamp icon in the systray. Right clicking on the systray would bring up a window with options for various "hidden icons" one of which was the Bootcamp icon. I changed the status from "show only messages" to "always show" but still couldn't see the icon. So I clicked on the option to "show all icons on taskbar" and still can't see the bootcamp icon and now can't get back to the "options menu" ;(
I've tried rebooting while holding down the alt key....restarts in windows both with restart and shut down and then restart
I've tried entering the command at the command line as suggested in an apple help doc,(it's a long command and I don't have it handy but I copied it from the web page) but that just gives a "command not recognized" error.

TIACheck your control panels which is where that shortcut goes anyway.
Holding x on startup should also boot into Mac OS.
Boot from OS X DVD and go to Utility menu => Disk Utility, and repair your Mac partition.
You may want to do some maintenance on Windows as well. -
I have a G5 imac that is using Disk Warrior as the start up disk and can't change back.
I am using a G5 imac (OS 10.4.8 I think the last update is) and I was attempting to use Disk Warrior to recover a lost file. On my other Macs you made Disk Warrior the start up disk to use it, which I did here but I think that was a mistake. Now I can't change back to the regular start up disk.
I tried starting in safe mode but I think I'm getting kernel panic because it goes to a gray screen and tells me to restart.I don't think Disk Warrior does file recovery. See:

Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

When you boot up hold down the alt/option key - on a wired keyboard - you will then be able to choose your boot drive, pick your OSX boot disc.
Don't forget to change the startup disc to OSX in the system preferences after though! I would have mentioned going to Windows and opening the Startup Disk control panel method but I don't have this option in my boot camp drive so figured you may not either?
As a thought, I use XP but with Parallels software, Fusion is also good then you don't have to reboot each time.

Why do I get a blank white screen on wakeup from sleep?
When my iMac wakes from s sleep lasting more than 10 minutes, I get a completely white screen. Everything is working well: when I move the cursor to the screen bottom, my toolbar appears, and when I click on an app icon, the part of the screen in and around its windows refreshes. (If I click on Launchpad, the entire screen refreshes). Is this a new bug? Advice on fixes, please?

Windows won't install and can't get back to mac os
I printed boot camp instructions. I partitioned the disk with no problem, inserted windows 7 and it came up a black screen with blinking cursor. I cannot get out of it and if I restart, it says to insert bootable disk. I cannot get mac os to come up. What can I do?
Reboot, hold the option (alt) key down at the chime, when the boot manager loads select Mac OSX as the startup disk. When OSX loads go to Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk and select OSX as the default.

Can't get back to Mac OS X after windows 7 install
I have a Macbook (aluminum one, not a pro)with leopard OS X and have gone through the process of creating a 60gig partition and installing windows 7 32bit ultimate edition on it using boot camp. After the installation process and several restarts, it seems windows 7 works great... The problem is I have no idea how to get back to OS X.
When I restart the computer it gives a gray screen for a moment then a black screen with a white blinking cursor, it flashes to the typical windows OS selection screen for about 1.5 seconds then boots up in windows 7. I have spammed the up arrow key to make sure that I am able to interact with the DOS OS selection screen and windows 7 is the only one shown.
I am completely lost as to what to do about this. My Leopard OS disc is long gone, I have an .iso of it saved on my Mac partition but I don't know how to access that either.
If anybody could help me out I would be ever grateful. Thanks in advance.Windows 7 has a hidden task bar at the bottom of the screen. It really isn't apparent especially if you have not used Win 7. This is not the power looking icon in the lower left, move the cursor to the lower right side and the task bar should appear.
Then, as with other windows versions, there should be a shortcut that allow you to access Bootcamp. Once in the bootcamp window you can select to reboot back to the Mac OS.
