BlazeDS and Stateful SessionBeans?

Hi,
is it possible to Access Stateful SessionBeans with BlazeDS?
And what Application Server do you use, i heard that there might be problems by using GlassFish v2.1.

I have been searching with no luck for a way to use stateful beans with blazeds. The BlazeDS developer guide says its possible but I'm not sure how to do it. My previous attempts have ended up with a new stateful bean being created on the server everytime my flex application makes a call on the remoteobject. A step-by-step guide would be nice.

I have figured this out on my own. Ill post what I did in case anyone else was having the same problem as me.
1. Create a POJO in the WEB-INF/classes directory. This class will be a facade (wrapper) class for your stateful bean. In this class, define a field to be of type "local interface for bean". In the constructor call a method that will perform a JNDI lookup of the stateful bean and assign the result to the field variable. Now implement methods that wrap bean methods and call the bean methods using the stateful bean field.

3. Add a destination in the remoting-config.xml file in the WEB-INF/flex directory. The scope should be "session" if the state is to be maintained for individual clients and "application" if all clients should share the same state.

4. Create a RemoteObject in your flex application that uses this destination.

Now when the RemoteObject is used, flex will create an instance of MySessionFacade and use the field "mySession" to invoke methods on the stateful bean. Since the scope is "session" or "application", flex only creates one instance of MySessionFacade. Since the lookup is only performed on instantiation, and the object is instantiated only once, this ensures you will get the same stateful bean instance with each invocation on the facade class.
I am sure there is a better way to do this. Possibly using a ServiceLocator pattern and cacheing. If anyone can improve this code, please post it.

StateFul SessionBean Passivation

I am running a EJB application in weblogic, using StateFul SessionBean.Suppose say,
the maximum number of clients at a time is 100.(And assume that this is the maximum no of beans taht are created).Now 2 more clients 101,102 are coming.This time the 1st,2nd client are idle, so that their beans are passivated.Now What will happen,
1.Whether the container will create 2 more beans for the 101,102 client
or
2.the Clients shouold wait until, any 2 of the previously created clients going to logout
or
3.I read in EdRoman Book, the following,Excerpt
if a SF bean is passivated for a particular client.And the client again came the same bean is not necessarily to serve for that client.Any bean can activate and work for the client, from the point where the original bean is left.
If this is the case.
then the container will activate the 2 beans and give it to them(101, 102 ).And now the original client (that is 1, 2 clients ) agin they are invoking business method .Now they(1,2nd) should wait for any other 2 clients beans for passivation.

Thanks for the suggestion Barry, but since we are using a client application
that creates the SSB directly, there's no servlet or intermediate
server-side bean to implement HttpSessionBindingListener. I'll check, but
I'm pretty sure the SSB can't implement it itself. Still, it's food for
thought...

Hello, I am new to adf and EJB/EclipseLink, so I have a question
May be my question is not the same as a topic starter had, But I have quite close issue with Stateful session beans and related bean life exceptions.
I have app with Model and ViewController parts (as created using default Jdev master for Fusion Web Applications). In Model I have a Stateful bean running some businesses logic. On View I have one of the Statful ejb bean methods exposed through data control as adf form with input field and button action like "#{bindings.fireMdxQuery.execute}", so in some cases this method can throw exception, and Stateful bean will be removed.
Method signature for local bean interface looks like:
public void fireMdxQuery(String query) throws ConnectionException, OperationException;
For first call example I could achieve first - normal exception stacktrace, and then on second bean call -
java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
Bean has been deleted.
Caused by: javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException: Bean has been deleted.
Could you please provide,what is the best way to determine, that statefull bean has been removed, to have ability to redirect user to some special place or running some businesses logic in such case? Am I expected to use managed bean, use code like

Avoid java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException: Stateful SessionBean has timed-out

I have a "java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException: Stateful SessionBean has timed-out" error when I call a statefull session bean after timeout,
I would like to check if a bean was removed before calling a method (and so generate a rmi.NoSuchObjectException).

No you wouldn't. It could time out between the check and the call. The correct way to do it is the way you are already doing it: attempt the operation and deal with the failure.

How to store an image into MySQL db using BlazeDS and Hibernate?

I am using Flash Builder 4.6, BlazeDS, and Hibernate. How to store a webcam snapshot into the MySql Database. I stored Form Items by using RemoteObject into the database. But I failed to store webcam snapshot. I captured that image on Panel component.I converted that image to ByteArray. Now I want to save that image into the database. Please help me in this regard.

Hi!
I am using Flash Builder 4.6, BlazeDS, and Hibernate. How to store a webcam snapshot into the MySql Database. I stored Form Items by using RemoteObject into the database. But I failed to store webcam snapshot. I captured that image on Panel component.I converted that image to ByteArray. Now I want to save that image into the database. Please help me in this regard.

I'm a java developer looking at RIA for the first time. I'm really excited about BlazeDS and object remoting, but I can't get a working dev environment together. I'm assuming I should use Flex Builder for the client code, Eclipse Europa for the java webapp code, and deploy from both IDEs into the BlazeDS-equipped turnkey-Tomcat. I haven't found a tutorial explaining how to deploy a new webapp with this setup.
The turnkey-Tomcat sample app works fine. Trouble starts when I try to create a new project in Flex Builder. I don't understand the 'debug' deployment that Flex Builder does. Why are there 2 versions of my app, the regular and the debug versions? What is exactly the project structure that I'm supposed to have in Tomcat?
The specific error I encounter when trying to deploy a new Flex project is this:

I do have a default channel configured for my environment in services-config:

Hi Peter, I don't have problems passing JavaBeans to Flex. For collections, I used DataGrid, it displayed my collection seamlessly, except I don't get column headers, just a column index number. For receiving a single JavaBean, I had a little more trouble, until I tried to display it with a DataGrid: it displayed a single row that represented my data, with each java property name used as a column header, and object attributes were displayed as 'object'. These 2 experiences led me to these conclusions: - for the collection, Flex converted each element into an ordered list of attributes - for the single bean, Flex converted it into a hierarchy of Maps of attributes I didn't create a Flex value object. Flex is doing it automatically,very much like in JavaScript/JSON: dynamic objects. Some advice please, BlazeDS and some ideas

HEllo all,
I am planning on building an app out, that has two versions, viewer and admin. The admin will be allowed to upload images, and then display an image of choice on the viewers page, and be able to change these images at will, with the viewers page automatically updating.
Kind of like a daynamic image sharing thing.
Now i have been doing some research in how to do this, and stumbled along BlazeDS, and am wondering if something like this is possible with Blaze, i know it can support sending and recieving text based messages really well, but dose it suppose images in the same way ?
Any advice would be great !

You would still use the messageing system of blaze to tell a user an image has been modified then tehy would download it again, much the same way we did with the video app you would have a key word in the message that triggers a dowload event.
For instance a user uploads an image when the event complete is fired it feeds a message to the server "imageUL:image001.jpg" the serevr then posts a message to all clients "imageED:USR:image001.jpg"
when you get the message it fires the download event because ther first 7 characters ="imageED, the character between the colons is the user id so if you where the one that updated the image you would not proceed to download the image.

BlazeDS and JBoss

Hi All,
I have this BlazeDS problem I need help with....
I need to get Flex application to "talk to" java on the back-end.
For that to work, as you know, I need BlazeDS and, among many, JBoss application server.
I was wondering if someone knows how to integrate BlazeDS with JBoss?
I got stuck with this part....
I've seen some tutorials on the Internet suggesting to just put blazeds.war file into JBoss' deploy directory.
(server/default/deploy/) I think was the path....
I tried that and in fact this worked. I was able to run sample application too.... Strange.
The problem is that I need to control and map my java class to the flex class, which involves editing some config file.
If I'm not mistaken this file is in the blazeds.war file so I can't really edit it. And what if I have to make a change to it?
I can't just figure this whole thing out and run Flex project in Eclipse that "talks to" a java class.
Please note that I have to use JBoss and NOT Tomcat. If I can just correctly integrate BlazeDS with JBoss I'll be half way there already....

Hi,
You have 2 options. Probably the preferred method during development is to use an expanded war. Create a subdirectory in the deploy directory named blazeds.war and expand the blazeds war file into it.
If you are ready to deploy the webapp, you can jar the directory back up and deploy it as a war. But as you have seen you cannot make updates to config files or classes on the war file itself.

BlazeDS and JSF

I have an existing JSF (really Oracle ADF) application that I'd like to connect to a Flex front-end rather than rewrite totally in Flex + JSPs for the back-end. BlazeDS will properly instantiate the managed beans through remote object requests, but the FacesContext references in my managed beans are null, as BlazeDS seems to have nothing to do with this context. Does anyone have experience connecting a Flex application to a JSF application properly, maybe through creating his/her own FacesContext factory?

The war is just an example of how to configure and package blazeds. BlazeDS itself is just a servlet, with a collection of jars and some configuration files. You put the required jars into your WEB-INF/lib, the configuration files into WEB-INF/flex (If I remember correctly), and then map the blazeds message broker servlet in your web.xml file. You can open up the war file and see how it’s configured there and base your configuration on that. Remote Call to Blazeds and displaying the result set in grid

There may be other ways to do this but here's what I would do:
1) add a results method to the remote object:

4) make the dataProvider for the grid use the my data :

You can probably avoid all this by adjusting your dataProvider. I am just
not sure what it would be without experimenting. But definitely not what
you have. Maybe just {svc.result}.

I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but it might help:
"If you made the Windows partition too small
First, back up all the information on your Windows partition. Then run Boot Camp
Assistant to restore your disk to a single volume. Restart your computer and use Boot

p.s: the jndi name is correct.

A deployed bean can not be both stateful and stateless. You must specify the session-type in the deployment descriptor. The reason that deployed beans must be either stateful or stateless is that the ejb container must know how to handle them. Stateful and stateless beans have very different life cycles as I'm sure HeadFirstEJB pointed out.
What HeadFirstEJB might have been trying to say is that if you have a no-arg create along with other create methods, you may be able to deploy the bean as stateless in one environment and stateful in another. I can't think of any reason you might want to do this but I suppose there might be some valid reasons out there.

BlazeDS and Flash

Has anyone successfully made any movies / apps with BlazeDS
and Flash?
I have heard it is doable, but when I look around the net
they are all Flex examples.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. I'm not sure anyone has done messaging between a Flash app and BlazeDS. I found some postings where people had gotten Flash apps to do web service calls using the rpc.swc from the Flex sdk. Not sure if these calls were going through BlazeDS as a proxy or directly to the target web service but I imagine that if they got the non-proxy case to work, the BlazeDS proxy case would work as well.
The rpc.swc also contains the client side BlazeDS messaging code so based on what I have read it seems like a Flash app should be able to use rpc.swc to talk to BlazeDS to do messaging remote object calls etc. but not sure how hard it would be to get this working.
