**bleep** ctac32k.sys fi

im about to freak the f%?#" out real soon if i dont get my soundcard to work. so im begging for help here..
heres the deal. i've done plenty of reistallments in last year or so of my OP and never had any problems with having to use the original install cd to intsall drivers for my my soundcard..today i had to change the port(or whatever its called) on wich the soundcard is in due to lack of space..and now i have huge problems getting it to work..xp detects the new hardware, so im pretty sure i put the card in correctly, but i need the originall cd, wich i've so brilliantly misplaced..
i have a, dont know the exact name, but its something along the line of soundblaster audigy SB(probobly without SB)..its kinda old but it does its thing..
so i downloaded "Installation CD for Sound Blaster Audigy SE" wich badboy has uploaded on this forum, burnt the cd, but i cant install the drivers!
first it asks for the file in the headline, couldnt find that file anywere, until i read that it could be in windows/system32/drivers-folder..and there it was..so i used that file(dont know if thats any good) and the installation continued for a couple of seconds. then it started to ask for .dbs(something like that) files..tried to search for the filename on the cd but nothing..thats were i'm at now..
all this is done from ad hardware in the controlpanel, since when doing a setup from the cd i get, at the end of the installation, a "cant detect any suported hardware"- messege..
did i download the wrong iso? if so were can i get the correct one? since all the isos that "badboy" upped are for newer soundcards, except the one i got,doubt that any of the others will work..
i've googled everywere and cant find any solutions..so pleas please give me some good news on how to fix this..
yeah, and english is not my nati've language so sorry for the gramamar and spelling..
please help..please....
gotta say its a very cool bleeping thing this forum has. although the curseword i used is about as mild as a *****cat...Message Edited by manager on 2-27-2005 2:9 AM

so thats the one..great, thanks! thought that since there's no "li've!" in the name of my card that it wasn't for me..
i'll DL and try it out, need a xp reinstall real soon..also good to have it for future mayhams..
sweet bad boy. and thanks for the help from you to xmn..
just thought of something else wich mayby someone could awnser when you've already read this far, pointless to start a new topic about it..
IE in last month always crashes after getting to 33% of scanning when doing the autoupdate thing..never done that before. i regulary use firefox, if that has anything to do with it.
i have frameworks installed, 2.0. jawa is also installed. i'm pretty sure the acti'vex controller got installed properly when i did it the first time..
also, i have a kind a special xp installed, so mayby something is missing..
really need the autoupdate to work, theres so many driver, app., uttilities-updates that i never get wich ones to dl.Message Edited by manager on 2-29-2005 0:00 PM

• Which latest ctac32k.sys file that can decode AC3 at driver lev

I have 5.2..20 version of ctac32k.sys that can display the decoder tab in Audio Console,I just downloaded the latest DELL driver which contains 6.0..242 version, but if I changed to this version, no decoder option will be displayed in Audio Console, don't work! so, any one have the latest ctac32k.sys that can decode AC3 at driver level with the latest 6.0..303 driver I really don't think the ctac32k.sys driver has relationship with 6.0..303, I just want to know the latest version of ctac32k.sys that can be useful and functioning at Vista 32-bit. Thanks!

ter Wrote :Thanks! Does that version that has decoder tab really working
I use AC3 filter to output AC3 to X-Fi, but no sound heard. I did enabled the built-in decoder at the tab. Anyone successfully decoded AC3 signal using that version
=== Questions, Why are you using AC3 filter and on what device are you using AC3 filter
Here's what I did to get Digital IN and decode DTS 5. sound with a simple external DVD player to my X-Fi XtremeMusic retail soundcard (SB0460) via the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module. I'm using Vista 32-Bit operating system.
First I setup my dvd players for digital sound, This is my setting and may differ with other devices. sony dvd player (Model : DVP-NS325) DVD PLAYER AUDIO SETTINGSAUDIO ATT : OFFAUDIO DRC : STANDARDDOWNMIX : DOLBY SURROUNDDIGITAL OUT : ON- DOLBY DIGITAL : D-PCM- DTS : OFF NOTE : where it says - DOLBY DIGITAL : D-PCM (I switched this setting from DOLBY DIGITAL to D-PCM)and, where it says - DTS : OFF (I set this to off, because I want to decode to a DTS device decoder through my soundcard) The term "D-PCM" means : Downmix Pulse Code Modulation Next, I connect the digital cable from the digital audio out of the dvd player via the digital in of the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module. I then went into the creative Entertainment Mode and enabled the Digital I/O. Also, In the mixer I unmute "Digital-In" and turned it up. Next, went into creative audio console, the decoder tab and enabled "Use Built-In Decoder" (DD/DTS), and set DD/DTS on Auto. Now, I went over to the dvd player, popped in a movie, called "Twister" I setup DTS 5. on the dvd root. Start the movie.So, I hear rich DTS 5. decoded sound through my computer speakers. This may not be easy for other users, I just played around with the dvd player digital audio setting and got it to work. Edit : I'm also using the latest creative sound drivers and the dell's ctac32k.sys system file to get the DD/DTS decoder tab.

• Flash audio level drop outs (Windows 8.1)

Hey,
Using adobe flash, I've been having issues with to audio nearly dropping out to nearly inaudible levels on mutiple websites. Anything that does use the flash player, it seems to be triggered when I plug in another device into the computer for use, or charging although it doesn't seem to be 100% consistant and seems less likely after reinitiating the flash player, but would happen after having the flash player open for a longer period of time then attaching a device. My current work around is to either load up a different browser e.g. Google Chrome, which will use it's own plugin container containing another instance of flash. Or to end task on flash from my task manager, then reload the page. which would restore proper audio levels. This does not appear to be specific to one webpage, or to one brower.

So looking further into things, it seemed to have started happening since I installed Steam. While steams loader was active in the background it would cause the flash audio to drop out. I don't know any reason why it would cause this, but have just disabled steam from starting up at all. Any insight on why these two programs would clash and cause audio issues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

• RAM not showing up in system properties

I have 3GB installed on my OLD Windows XP
I have noticed lately that when I checked my System Properties it only says 2GB.
But HWINFO32 shows 3GB
I ran memtest86 to see if my ram was failing but it passed.
Any ideas on why it only shows 2GB.
I have an Nvidia 9800 1024MB graphics card if for some reason that is subtracting from my total.
Thanks:  GLenn

I have saved the DXDIAG file and uploaded it.
Does anyone think I should replace the CMOS battery ?
I have not had any problems with my time not working or it turning off and no warnings ?
Also, I have ordered 4 new 1GB Ram sticks so they are all the same speed.
My 2 512's are the slowest and the new ones will be faster then the 2 1GB ones I have there now.
I will pick up a can of air and clean out the unit too since its been over a year since I dusted it off.
Thanks:  GLenn
I will paste the info below too.

Should I post this here? I emailed support about this and it's turned into a wierd mistake. Currently they are making sure I know how to properly hook up my speakers.
I still have the minidump file if that would be useful. This happens occasionally while letting the driver decode AC-3 audio from any Direct Show player (Media Player, Zoom Player, even graph editor) and seeking around in the stream.

Uhh.. that's a 90K binary file. I don't think there's a way to post those here. This isn't a Dr Watson textual disassembly; it's a binary core image of the kernel drivers' memory state at the time of the exception.
More anecdotal information on this. I got another crash this time while playing a stream using mpeg audio. Since mpeg audio is decoded first the audio rendering was receiving pcm, not ac-3 data. Turning off AC-3/DTS decoding in the driver seems to make this problem go away. Since there isn't 00% cause and effect (it's a random crash), I don't know that for sure. What this is telling me is simply having the option turned on destabalizes the system regardless of the format activating it.
Of course, I don't want to run it this way; I really want to use the driver's AC-3/DTS decoding capability.

• Achieve full Vista Dolby, S/PDIF-In & DTS for X-Fi or Audig

I placed a post on 9/2/07:? ? I had to reuse the 2 downloaded?files after Vista's recent Service Pack. My X-Fi Elite is still fully functional in Vista Ultimate with the S/PDIF-In.
I found the link last summer:? ?
Still there it explains:
"... Creative Labs removed Dolby decoding on their mainstream drivers, yet saw fit to leave the feature in Dell drivers!
... Firstly we need to download the Vista x86 X-Fi driver from Dell. Just go on the Dell site and get these?. Now extract the R44728.EXE file (again using WinRAR) to a folder but don't install it just cancel after extracting.
All you really want are two files that you can find located in your newly extracted folder: R44728\Drivers\wdm\win2k_xp\i386\
These files are ctac32k.sys and ctdvda2k.sys.? Copy them and place them into your c:\windows\system32\drivers folder, replacing existing versions.
Now reboot and afterwards you?ll have a brand new tab in the Creative Audio Console (CAC -lol) labelled ?Decoder?.
Now you can enable the internal decoder and your SPDIF?IN can now decode DTS. Now you can use more than 2 speakers in Windows Media Player when playing .avi or .mp3 with multichannel soundtracks.
I hope this fix helps somebody as much as it helped me."

Thanks for the suggestions Larry, sadly I cannot get this to work for me
I have two Fatalty cards, one was purchased not that long after the release of the X-Fi (it has a remote and a front box), now DTS and Dolby work fine on this card under Windows XP.
My new system has a newer Fatalty Professional series card....for some unknown reason the DTS and Dolby is locked under XP, I had to use a hack from a Russian site to unlock the Dolby and DTS decoder under Windows XP, yet sadly nothing seems to unlock them on Vista x64 with SP.
Thanks for the guide, perhaps it is Vista 32Bit's or older style X-Fi's only?

When playing some games (most typically for me, when playing Counterstrike: Condition Zero) the game's sound begins to skip and the game freezes forcing me to reboot the PC. I think it is my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum card. Anyone know what to do to fix this? Relevant system spec:

• Install problems Win XPSP2 and X-FI Xtreme Mu

I read the sticky Sound Blaster FAQ and did everything it said to do. Clean boot was no good since driver and soundcard don't see each other, or driver not loaded right. This is driving me crazy, been working since Fri afternoon on this, now it;s late Sunday and it still doesn't work.
I am unable to install drivers completely. System is in loop where at startup windows finds new hardware for sound card, when canceled out, system doesn't see sound card and it doesn't work. Has screen that says software you are installing for Creative X-Fi Audio Processor(WDM) has not passed Windows Logo testing, if told to install, it starts looking for files, but can't find them on disk, I have to browse to file location for first file, ctac32k.sys, which is on disk. Second file, crdnlstr.dat, is not on disk at all, I tried looking in search for it, but is located in several places in Windows/Temp and in System32. If any of those locations are used, system will reboot after a few seconds and then we start all over again.
I reformatted and re-installed XP, the only thing the second time I put on was Service Pack 2 and microcode update from Microsoft for Intel KB 936357-x86-ENU the a slashdot article talked about that was supposed to help, no graphic drivers or chipset drivers yet, wanted to see if it wouldn't work better on clean install. I also updated BIOS to latest version from EVGA, the P30 released last month, nothing newer available yet. Still have same problem. I have 2 PCI slots, tried both of them, same thing. I've disabled on-board audio and don't even have the drivers for that loaded, just in case they were conflicting. This build had been running fine for 2 weeks, no problems at all. Everything started when I first tried to install the sound card drivers. I also cleaned out the CD drivers and tried the web drivers, that froze the computer then caused windows to not load, I had to use the recovery console to repair windows. Back to the CD and now we are where we are at. Please help, thank you. Here is my system.

what a crock. 2 days of just looking at my posts. 2 days of stupid customer support people emailing me and telling me to do the stuff I was supposed to do before I emailed them, which I did, desperately hoping for a resolution to this issue. I don't think they read what I said at all, and they spent half the message trying to sell me on other Creative products. If you call this customer support, you can have it.
The card is going back for a refund, I don't need the hassle and frustration. I've used Creative since the 998 Sound Blaster, but no more. They suck, their product for me sucks and their support is nonexistent. I'm going to buy a bgear card, at least they have updated drivers from this month, not last year. And support for all the Dolby, besides, who needs EAX 5, no games are going to use it anyway, and I'm more into music anyway. Thanks for all the help, good luck on getting your issues fixed, seems to me you're going to really need it.

• How can i get DD and DTS back?? (for Xfi XtremeMusic, windows vista 64-b

well, anybody?

Hi there.
I got DD and DTS working, in Vista 64, by using the X-Fi Dell drivers (as mentioned here elsewhere).
Copy the file : ctac32k.sys from the amd64 folder, inside drivers/wdm/win2k_xp/amd64, to Windows/system32/drivers.
Overwrite the file already there, reboot.
Should now have a 'decoder' tab in the Creative Audio Console.
Hope that helps.
... works great for me.

• Crackling/popping - constant, not just when watching videos

;Crackling/popping - constant, not just when watching videos' My setup is a Dell Dimension 8400 with Media Center (WinXP), Intel Pentium 4, 3.4GHz, 3070Mb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 video card, and an Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
After never having any audio problems, almost 3 months ago I updated the Audigy 2 ZS driver (5.2.4.96) to the most recent available (2.8.00), and immediately crackling and popping began coming from the speakers.
Although nothing has solved the problem, here are some things I've tried:
1) updating to the beta driver (2.8.00)
2) installing the old driver (2.09.006) offered at the Creative site
3) installing an old driver (5.2.4.445) found online
4) reinstalling from the original CD that came with my computer
Because I've spent so many frustrating hours since the disastrous update trying many different fixes, I can't recall exactly what happened during the update, and didn't keep good notes. However, my contemporaneous notes from that day mention (without context, unfortunately) some files that may provide a clue to more knowledgeable techies as to what has gone wrong:
ctac32k.sys
haP72K.sys
ctdnlstr.dat
ctoss2k.sys
This problem has consumed a great deal of my time, and interfered with my profession (musician). At this point I'm very frustrated, and would greatly appreciate the help of this forum.
P.S. I've created this new thread (message) rather than add a post to the "Static noise from soundcards encountered with Nvidia dual SLI" thread, because: ) I don't *think* that my GeForce 6800 is a "dual SLI" and 2) my symptoms are different, i.e., crackling and popping not just when watching video files or playing mp3's, but constantly, from first starting the computer.

Hi @Clairceg
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.Thank you for the detailed information very very helpful. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-n297sa Notebook and the popping sound or crackling noises. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound for the user profile that is experiencing the crackling.
Does this happen in the profile when they are listening to a CD?
What browser are you using? I would check to make sure the browser is up to date.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks.

• Can`t install idt / no sound / missing driver component (THE USUAL **bleep**IN IDT PROBLEMS)

Hey,
first of all i want to excuse my vulgar language (aswell as my orthography), but honestly?
since around one week i got serious problems with my sound drivers, i have tried many things to resolve these issues already and am now close to despair browsing these forums thinking whether or not i should just throw this laptop out and never go back to hp.
how it all started:
So i will try to start over. Since last week my audio fails and i encountered various problems while reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling the BIOS, reseting my laptop to factory settings and practically trying everything.
It all started with me being unable to adjust the volume and beats audio not responding. i shortly before tried updating to windows 8.1 though i doubt this update had anything to do with the issues (after rerolling to factory settings later that week the problem reaccured). the sound just vanquishes shortly after a restart. restart problems began to appear
Symptoms:
-generall:
Failing Sound
         - Windows displays sound in the sound regulating system but there just isn`t anything to hear
Failing reboots (yes and this one is freaking me out, my laptop sometimes goes into blackscreens when trying to restart. if shutting down and booting this problem is unexistant. but yet i am very rarely able to restart the computer with the corresponding function. sometimes it works without problems though. )
-IDT:
since a day i get the massage that the detected hardware isn`t supported by the software package. i never got this massage before during tons of idt installations. since estimatedly the same point in time beats audio is unexistant and i run on windows default audio drivers.
-Default drivers:
sound very quiet and aswell vanquishing completly after some time
what i tried up to now:
i tried downloading drivers directly from here and i tried repairing them with the HP recovery manager, i tried reinstalling pretty much every driver, in my IT-incompetence just making sure there isn`t some problem with how other drivers cooperate with the idt audio codec. espacially the fingerprint driver was giving me headaches since this totally irrelevant **bleep** wasn't working since quite some time and somewhere on the net i saw a support thread about faulty validity drivers being the cause for other problems. i also, as suggested, tried random power resets inbetween the hundret restarts i have run, to no success. i rerolled to factory settings and still the sound would be no more, shortly after rebooting.  sometimes deleting random (not realy that random, more like it have been many and i can't say wich shutdown was successfull anymore)  prozesses helped, and i suddenly had cound again, sometimes deleting some programs like the fingerprintscanner driver or others, helped and restored the sound for a longer period, but in the end, it faded once more.
a short brakethrough was the chipset driver reinstallation, providing me with sound for estimatedly 2 hours.
but right now, i don`t know what to do anymore since i have no idt driver whatsoever on my pc at the moment and i can`t instal one. also i am to ennoyed to perform another reroll.
to the support administration (If something like that is existant):
SERIOUSLY i found TONS of people describing nearly the same problems and i was always enlightened by the helpfull Hp employees redirecting every last one of them to a driver link that neither changed anything.
Please don`t misunderstand me, i know you guys might want to help, and this defenitly isn't ment to criticise any one who tries to help in these forums. But not even one of the corrresponding threads recieved a solution? PLS HP JUST TRY to **bleep**ing answer what the hell is goes on with your Audio devices.
i will post this as it is right now since i have no time to recheck if everything is said. maybe later. gotta go. hope someone can help.
cheers.
desperate

Okay while i still got no answer in this forum my problem becomes harder and harder to track down for me.
i just installed a BIOS update (it was recomended by the hp assistant) wich ran smoothly untill i first got a litle concerned when seing a -maybe just misleading- text panel. It was just after the BIOS update was completed, and i have been informed not to turn of my computer during some minutes in wich the screen may stay blank and various LD lights might blink. It initiated, just like i thought it would. The screen went 2 times from enlightened black to black while keyboard LEDs flashed. So far so good.
But than this blue panel shows up saying "Flashing Boot Block", nothing flashes for a while in wich a progression is shown in percentages underneath this very panel.
Now to get back to the Topic: WHY is my Soundcard or Driver again DEINSTALLED after this BIOS update??????
I had it before! it still stopped working -the sound stopped- some times but it was there!! and it might well work the next time i open my laptop to watch a video listen to music or play a game! So why is it gone after this BIOS update? i will ofcourse check if i may now install the drivers for my Product but i am not confident that it will succeed.. lets hope so...
I just try to understand what is going on and therefor a short explaining answer to some of the questions i hinted to within my posts would be very appreciated.
Best regards, a believing support forum user..

• Strange bong, more of a bleep?

Hi all, I'm using Tiger, lately noticed the start-up bong has changed to a bleep and the screen opens white with no apple, just some text saying something about typing mac-boot, I usually press the restart nipple on the front of the G4 case at this point and the normal start up commences. Should I worry?
(I am getting the console Bonjour sleep proxy error message but have been advised to ignore it as OS10/4 just logs the failed attempt to wake the machine, it does not 'do' anything*
if interested,
*mDNSResponder: ERROR: getOptRdata - unknown opt 4
Older versions of Mac OS X Server don't know how to handle opt 4 requests coming from workstations running newer versions of Mac OS X, so the bizarre packet is logged but no action is taken.)

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
I'd start by re-seating the RAM.

• Instead of using the make file can you build nirlpk.sys using MS WDK 8.0 on VS2012?

After downloading the NI nimhddk_windowsWDM-2 and -1
Instead of using the make file I built nirlpk.sys using MS WDK 8.0 on VS2012
I copied the source files out of the dir /nirlpk to the MS template for WDM drivers
It built after turning warnings as errors off.
After uninstalling the NI_DMX driver I tried to install the RLP driver that consisted of nirlp.inf and nirlpk.sys
I got this message:
Windows found driver software for your device but encounted and error while attempting to install it.
PCI-6602 RLP WDM
Driver is not intended for this platform
Is the nirlp.inf file correct for loading on Windows 7 64 bit?
Any ideas?

I have now altered the example along lines
suggested by ghaneman*, who pointed out that
a trusted application did not need to use the
FileOpenService/FileContents just to get an
InputStream.
* Mentioned on 'File associations / sandboxed app.'
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=785224
The altered code is..
/** Load a file into the editing area.
@param path A string representing the path to the desired file. */
public void loadFile(String path) {
        // first try as if this were a trusted application..
        if (!path.equals(".")) {
            try {
                FileInputStream inputStream = new
                    FileInputStream(path);
                loadFile(inputStream);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                // we do not have trust, use the FileOpenService
                loadFileByFileService(path);
        } else {
            // we only have a directory, use the FileOpenService
            loadFileByFileService(path);
public void loadFileByFileService(String path) {
        try {
            if (fileOpenService==null) {
                fileOpenService = (FileOpenService)ServiceManager.
                    lookup("javax.jnlp.FileOpenService");
            fileContents = fileOpenService.openFileDialog(path, xtns);
            // the user may have cancelled the action..
            if (fileContents!=null) {
                loadFile( fileContents.getInputStream() );
        } catch(UnavailableServiceException use) {
            use.printStackTrace();
        } catch(IOException ioe) {
            ioe.printStackTrace();
}If the user launches the trusted version, and
selects 'always trust' for the (self signed)
certificate, the end user can thereafter double
click a file and see it appear in the application's
editing area with no further user interaction.

Strange. Metalink doc 316889.1 says you should be able to upgrade following versions directly to 10.2.0.3.0
8.1.7.4 -> 10.2.X.X.X
9.0.1.4 or 9.0.1.5 -> 10.2.X.X.X
9.2.0.4 or higher -> 10.2.X.X.X
10.1.0.2 or higher -> 10.2.X.X.X
Not too sure but may be you need to contact Oracle support.
