Blend maintaining connection over mobile network

Hi there,
I've been using BB Blend (on a Lenovo laptop) by connecting my BB Z10 via an USB cable (no Wi-Fi).
Only today, BB Blend has remained connected to my handset even after I disconnect the cable. On the handset I get the message that Blend has switched to a mobile network connection ansd so it remains connected to my BB Z10.
Now, my  questions are:
How and to which network does Blend on the Lenovo laptop connect? (even if it is the handset's network, how does the laptop connect?)
Is this something I should be concerned about - in terms of security?
Thanks everybody.

Hello,
When you disconnect the USB cable, the "hard line" connection between the device and the computer is of course severed. If they are both on the same "local" (e.g., no carrier data network involved) network (either WiFi or hybrid wired and WiFi), the two can communicate with each other that way. If you have set the configuration on the device to allow it to continue to be connected to the computer when the BB has moved off of all WiFi and is solely on your carrier data network, then the two will continue to communicate via that means.
In that last configuration, your BB is communicating to your PC via the wired (or WiFi) network on which your laptop is located, and the BB is communicating via the carrier data network. Those two are then in turn connected via the Internet.
This is a setting you control, on the device. If you do not want this communication happening when the BB moves solely to the carrier data network, then simply shut the setting off on your device.
Hope that helps!

  • S860 and X2, Google not connecting on mobile network.

I live in Sweden. Had my S860 for 3 years and it has been working fine but some months ago it was not connecting on mobile network with crome and play store. Restart and it could work for some time the it was gone again. At the same time Hotspot, skype and OS update is working fine. Got a new sim card i november but it did not help. This was going more and more bad and finally it did not work at all. Tried to reverse OS a few steps back and still not working. So i tought that it was something to do with hardware. Now i bought a Vibe X2. Away from sweden for the moment (Saudi Arabia) but this one does the same when I try to connect. OS update working but Crome says ssl error and Play Store just wont connect. Saw some forums said it might be time and date that was wrong so i tried to change to local format but it was the same. My S860 i was waiting for 6 month before i could buy it (not for sale in Sweden) in Saudi. Haas been very pleased with it so now when it has been messing with me i had no problem to buy a new Lenovo phone. This time just waiting 3 month before i could buy it in Saudi. Hope this is something I can get some help to solve. /Nils

  • No connection with mobile network

My phone (which was bought only 2 days ago) has suddenly lost connection with mobile network. "Emergency calls only" is written on lock screen, near signal power bar there is a small red 'x'. I tried turning it off and on, tacking sim card out and putting it back in, trying to connect to mobile network manually through the settings "Service providers" (it says "Could not connect to network now. Please try again later." when I try to connect manually), changing network mode (to all possible modes). Still no luck. I can't send an sms or make a call.
    What should I do?

I got similar issue but the only thing is phones randomly disconnects itself from the mobile network in some days. Then no matter you manually search for the network and try registering, it simply wont connect to any network.Your only solution is to reset the phone or turn off and on and it again auto catches your operator.

  • Odd high data consumption on 10.3.1 (and 10.2.1) - on wifi, but routing over mobile network?

Couldn't find a similar recent thread. Just an inconclusive one from 2013 that looked more about the difference between BBOS 7 & BB10.
tl;dr: It looks like my Z10 is routing some traffic to the mobile network when to applications it looks like the wifi connection is active.
I have not previously had high data-use issues with my Z10. On Friday February 20th, I updated to 10.3.1.1581. On Friday March 6th, I got a notice saying I'd used 75% of my data (billing cycle is on the 18th, 800MB limit). At that point, the device monitor said I'd used ~300MB*.
Woke up the next morning and say an alert that came in overnight saying I'd gone past my limit, and the device monitor said I'd used ~540MB.
240MB of mobile network data use while I was at home, connected to wifi, and asleep. The device monitor attributed it to "System". Normally, my mobile data use is mostly PIM and Browser.
I looked back in the data usage report from Koodo and saw that there was a previous, similar spike on Feb 20, earlier in the day before the 10.3.1 upgrade. Right around the time I turned on wifi at work and put the phone on its dock, hoping to start the upgrade. That failed due to AP issues.
I use "Pocket Casts" (Android podcast app). It's set to download only when on wifi and connected to power.
Could it be that it thought I was connected to wifi, but due to weak signal strength, the OS actually routed the connection over the mobile network? I sometimes only have one bar of signal strength in my bedroom.
If that's the case, why is an Android app's data use recorded as "System" and not at least "Android Player"? It looks like it must be lumped in under "System", though, as the wifi usage numbers don't show anything else with enough bandwidth consumption to account for podcast downloads.

    hi,
what is Koodo and what do "AP issues" mean?
besides, on Friday 20th, which OS version did you update from?

  • Z10, no bbm over mobile network

My Z10 (10.3.1) does not connect to BB services when not on wifi.  Ie there is not bb icon on the top right of the screen when on mobile network. What's curious to me at least, is that on the mobile network, bbm video and voice calls work, just not the messages. Once on wifi, the bb logo appears and all is well. I contacted my provider (Telus) and they suggested that is was a sim problem or a phone problem. I had the sim replaced and it did not solve the problem. This occured today July 26 and its been about 9 hours like this. How can I get bbm to work again please?  ( I am currently upgradeing to OS 10.3.2.2 Thanks

  • IPhone HE-AAC Streaming over Mobile Network (3G)

Developed an internet radio streamer using utilizing the html5 audio tags with jQuery and with a flash fall back for unsupported browsers, streaming through an icecast2 server. Upon testing the player on the iPhone Safari (iOS 5.0.1), we ran into a very peculiar issue.
When the iPhone is connected to WiFi, it streams perfectly using the HE-AAC V2 stream @ 64kbps 44.1kHz (the preferred codec for apple products). However, when the iPhone is connected to the 3G mobile network (ATT and Verizon), it "stutters/buffers" or stops streaming for 1-2 secs every 1-2 minutes (does not stop streaming completely). The troubling thing is when the iPhone is forced to use a separate MP3 stream at the same bit rate, it does not have this issue and works very well on 3G.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for the fast response. I'm confused as to how AAC requires higher bandwidth over MP3 when it can produce higher quality audio at lower bit rates therefore requiring less bandwidth to stream over 3G. Are you referring to the bandwidth of the audio signal itself (at the codec level)?

  • One Z10 works fine, the other has problems connecting to mobile network

Hi, my wife and I both have Z10's, and we're both on the same mobile network (Wind Mobile in Canada). The wife's Z10 seems to have no problems connecting to or staying connected to Wind Mobile. Mine on the other hand seems to randomly drop the connection, or has trouble obtaining connection, and sometimes ends up roaming.
The only difference between the two Z10's is that hers is purchased through Wind Mobile itself, and it is locked to their network for the moment. I purchased mine a bit later, and I bought mine directly through Blackberry's online store, and mine is therefore unlocked. What I have to do sometimes is turn off the mobile connection, and turn it back on, and it works after I do that. However, that's annoying, as I'd rather have it automatically retry the network connection so that it doesn't go roaming within my own city.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you're passing by a Wind store in the near future, why not drop in and ask if they'll swap SIM cards for you? It could be something with the SIM.
In the meantime, try resetting your phone. This is equivalent to doing a battery pull and it's usually the first thing I recommend when troubleshooting an issue. Simply press and hold your power button for about 15 seconds until you see BlackBerry on your screen. Don't release the button before that and ignore anything that appears before BlackBerry.
Let us know if either of those solutions helps you.

Turned my blackberry off last night in the theater and now I can't connect to the mobile network - and therefore can't do anything with my blackberry.  I have tried to restore network connections, but it tells me that there are no available networks due to radio being off???  How do I turn the radio back on???

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Between the two posts your are not registered on the network and your radio signal at -256 is extremely weak.
I would reboot see if your -dbm level is -100 or less and reregister the phone.
If it doesn't reregister I would make sure all your data is backed up with Desktop Manager, perform a security wipe and return the phone to the carrier.
Make sure you get a new unit as opposed to a field replacement unit or a refurbished phone. You are currently holding what will be someone else's refurbished phone, OK?

  • IPhone 6 prioritizes poor 4G Connection over strong network extender 3G signal

I use the network extender due to poor coverage in my basement.  I have spent multiple hours with both Verizon and Apple trying to figure out why sometimes my iPhone 6 won't connect to it, including a hard reset of the iPhone.  I finally figure out that the iPhone 6 prioritizes getting a 4g connection, not matter how poor, over a 3g connection, no matter how strong.  As a result, my phone will occasionally latch on to a weak 4g signal and not connect to the Network Extender.  When I then get or make a call, the connection and voice quality is terrible.  The only work around is to completely turn off LTE.  This forces connection to the 3G Network Extender.  Of course, I then forget to turn it back on when I leave the house.  Are there any plans to provide some sort of a fix or a setting to make this more convenient?

PROBLEM SOLVED (so far). My wifes iphone 6 plus had the exact same issue. . .would keep going back to the weak 4G signal over the network extender.
To fix it, go into SETTINGS>CELLULAR>Enable LTE and set to DATA ONLY. . .NOT Voice and Data.
So far so good. . .only affects being able to make calls and surf the web at the same time, so if you don't do that much then you're not going to be inconvenienced too badly.
Hope it works for you!  Also, if the iPhone 6plus is like my Note3, then it has 2 antennas, 1 that's hooked into 4G and the other one that's connected to the network extender. . .it defaults to the 4G signal, so it may only show minimal bars till you actual make or receive a phone call then it'll jump to the network extender signal strength.
    Good luck!

  • Z10 lost connection to mobile network

My Z10 worked fine for the past 2 years.  Yesterday it received messages until 8:08 am, then lost connection to the network.  It is a Verizon phone with Verizon SIM and Verizon support told me to go to a store to get a new SIM.  That did not resolve the problem.  The icon in the upper right now says "SIM activation in progress"...as it has for the past 12 hours.  Clearly nothing is happening.  When I check Settings, About, SIM, the Z10 reads the SIM but the SIM is not registering with the network.
One guy at the Verizon store had never used a Blackberry and was on Google looking for answers.  He suggested it was becuse I went through airport security.  Another said the phone had failed and he wanted to sell me an iPhone.  I don't want an iPhone and I don't want to lose my unlimited data plan at Verizon (which terminates if I upgrade through Verizon).
I am not convinced it is a hardware problem but I don't have any way to test it and the Verizon guys are just guessing...and trying to sell me an iPhone.
I have not upgraded any SW or changed any settings recently. The phone has not been dropped or anywhere near water...it looks brand new.  It just stopped working mid-morning.
How do I get my Z10 working again?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Given what you describe, you must also have rebooted the device...since the inserted battery blocks the ability to remove/insert the SIM card. So, that basic guidance has already been carried out.
Have you checked the Mobile Network Settings, just in case something was changed accidentally somehow?
Otherwise, what you need to do is escalate beyond those at VZW you are presently talking to...clearly they are not the experts you require. You likely will need to call them (from a landline, so you can do things they recommend) and escalate beyond their Level 1 support folks and get to someone who actually knows the platform and can also check deeper into the VZW network itself.
Good luck and let us know!

  • DMM - DMP connectivity over DSL network

    Dear All,
I would like to know whether it is possible to connect DMM - DMP over DSL Network.
    -     I have DMM with private IP 192.168.1.100 have static net public IP 58.177.200.xx
    -     I have DMP with private IP 192.168.xx.xx connect under ADSL network with Dynamic IP address.
I check NAT enable on DMPDM but It ask me to enter ADSL public IP. When DSL line down and reconnect IP is change.
    What Should I do?
    Thank you very much
    Sukitti

    Hi Sukitti,
I'm afraid this will never work. As you already saw, you can use the DMP with NAT, but the public IP needs to be fixed.
Your best approach would be to contact your ADSL service provider and request a fixed IP for that connection. Most of providers give this option for a small extra amount
    Regards
    Daniel

  • Orig. Airport card loses IP, maintains connection to Linksys network

I'm posting here because I don't see a listing for plain old Airport cards. If there's a better spot in the forums for this, please let me know where it ought to go.
    The setup:
Dual 867 Power Mac G4 (MDD) with old-school Airport card (both purchased back in 2002), running 10.4.10, and connecting to a Linksys wireless network (WRT54G wireless G-router, with a WRE54G wireless-G range expander). For the most part, this has worked out very well for the past several months.
    The problem:
The IP address seems to drop out randomly, but not the wireless connection itself. I'll lose internet access, but have a full four bars on the Airport signal indicator. Pinging either the router or the extender fails. Shutting off Airport via the menu bar and then turning it back on will bring back the IP.
    The bigger problem:
This used to happen once in a while, now once or twice a week, but switching the Airport off and then on brought it back. Now it's happening every five to ten minutes, starting this evening. It does it with both static and dynamic IP addresses; the static IP remains in the System Preferences window, the dynamic one actually vanishes until I restart the Airport card.
I ran into wireless problems yesterday where the SSID and the network just up and vanished. I'd previously attributed this to environmental considerations since it had happened a few times before and normally fixed itself within 30 minutes to a few hours. After it failed to come back by this morning I upgraded the firmware on both the router and extender to the latest versions available from Linksys. All was right with the world for several hours.
Until the problem with the IP dropping while the wireless connection remains returned. Then it got worse. Now it drops on a far more frequent basis than before. This only happens on my desktop Mac. I'm on my Windows XP machine (same room, same wireless network, using a Linksys USB wireless adapter). The Windows machine is fine; it does not lose IP address when the Mac does. Since I have a full connection and the Windows machine doesn't seem bothered at all, I'm guessing it's something to do with the Airport card in the Mac.
Apple's software update tells me there's no new software available for my machine, which leaves me with no idea what's causing this or how to fix it.
Any advice, solutions, or tips are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Some of this might be review for you...
An IP address is how the data finds you on your respective network, like the street address on your house. When you boot up your computer and connect to your network your computer is connecting with either a static or dynamic IP address. Static means every time you boot up, your machine is using the same one you've assigned to it. Dynamic means that each time you boot up your machine gets whatever one is next in line.
Odds are if you've never set this, you're using a dynamic address which means you're using DHCP. To check, go to your System Preferences -> Network Preferences -> and double click on the Airport connection. You'll see a few different options, so click on TCP/IP. That will show you if you've got a static IP address ("Manually" appears on the pull-down menu) or a dynamic one (DHCP).
Unless you have to forward ports or are looking for volumes on your network using a static IP, DHCP for a dynamic IP is fine.
The "new" Airport card wasn't a 100% fix. My IP address does seem to mean nothing every once in a while. I sometimes have to switch the Airport off and then turn it back on. Since toward the end, my old Airport card stopped seeing the wireless network entirely, even when my XP box saw it clearly, replacing the card was still a good idea for me.
    Good luck!

  • ICal / MobileMe To Dos & iPhone syncing over mobile networks: Solution!!!

I have been after a solution to use the to do list in iCal on my Mac @ home and the MobileMe Calendar web page while at work & away from home AND have it sync OTA with my iPhone. There hasn't been a solution that I have found for this until now! I have tried Things and OmniFocus, but in my opionion they are both too bloated for my needs. I want a simple todo list with due dates, notes, priorities and URLs, that I can use on desktops as well as mobile. The iCal / MobileMe to do list is perfect for this, but until now there hasn't been a way to keep the same todo list on my iPhone and keep it in sync everywhere.
I now have a solution. Appigo recently launched a beta of their iCal Sync app for OSX. I downloaded & installed this to my Mac at home, and downloaded their iPhone Todo app. Great syncing between iCal and iPhone over my home Wifi network. Then, I thought, what is to stop me using this over the internet when I'm not at home? So I setup a domain with no-ip.org, which allows you to point a domain name at your home DSL router IP address and have it forward traffic to your home computer. Using a DNS solution in this way means you can dynamically update the domain name to change when your router public IP address changes (unless you have a static IP assigned with your ISP). So, anyway, I set this up to point at my router's public IP address, then configured my home router to forward a specific TCP port to my Mac. So when traffic arrives at the router from the internet destined for this specific port, the router forwards it to the Mac. I configured the Appigo iCal sync app to listen on a static port (the same one I configured on the router) and ensured both my Mac and router firewalls were set to permit this traffic.
So now, with MobileMe set to sync automatically, I can add/edit/delete a todo on my iPhone when I'm away from my home wifi network and it instantly syncs with iCal on my Mac at home, then that gets propogated almost instantly to MobileMe. Also it means a change to the todo list on my Mac or on the MobileMe Calendar web page will also almost instantly get propgated to my iPhone (next timne the Todo app syncs).
Brilliant! The perfect solution for me, and only costing the price of the Appigo todo iPhone app!
If anyone would like more detail on how this was all done, let me know and I can go into more detail.
Just need to find something similar for note syncing now, and I'll be sorted.

Thanks for the excellent information on Appigo ToDo and Sync. This is great way to fulfill the unexplainable absence of this feature from Apple's own application suite (MobileMe, iCal, To Do items).
I downloaded Sync and the iPhone app. Configuration was a snap. I'm still working from a trial membership of MobileMe...with this feature working I'm just about ready to pony up and get a full membership.
