Blind Spot since 7.0.2?

Since I've updated my iPhone 4 from 7.0 to 7.0.2 I have massive problems with the display/touch. There is a blind spot in the lower middle around the r-t-z-f-g-h- Keys and above! I can, sometimes, hit the key when i come from the e sliding to r or from u/z sliding to the t. That shows me that the display seems to work.
A app placed there cannot be started but pressing long starts the icon-wobbling!
I'm not able to reset my iphone because I hat to switch-off the search-funktion in icloud. This needs a password which I'm not able to enter because of the blind spot!
What could I do? Restart the iPhone in a special way? How?

  • Blind spot in Maps Luxembourg on N85??

I have just got me a new licence by Navigation on my N85. I have also downloaded the map data for the greater part of Europe to my phone. I have the most recent version of maps (3.01 09wk44 b01). At home in The Netherlands it works fine.
When trying to add favourites, I discovered a recangular blind spot in Maps. The top-left hand side of the blind spot is around Liège (Belgium) and the bottom-right hand side is around Saarbrücken (Germany). This covers all of Luxembourg and parts of Belgium, France and Germany. Within this area no streets or towns can be found. When moving the "cursor" over the screen in this area, the maps program shuts down completely.
I have already tried to re-install the Luxembourg map via OVI suite, without any success (all I get is "you already have this map on your device").
What can be the problem here?

i'm sure nobody promised you, when you bought the phone, it would take free navigation...

  • Mosaic has blank spots since moving iphoto to an external drive

(Screen saver)Mosaic is introducing lots of blank spots since i moved iphoto on to an externl drive... is there a fix to bring it back to the original (full of little images) version

Try creating a symbolic link to your library on the EHD and place it in your Pictures folder.  The launch iPhoto with the Option key held down, Choose, navigate to the symbolic link in the Pictures folder and select it.  Then setup the mosaic again and see if that improves the situation.

  • Blind tty since nvidia upgrade

Since I have update nvidia package from 1.0.9631-1 to 1.0.9746-1, I have black ttys when X is started and then killing X does not make ttys reappear.

You couldn't find solutions in one of the literally *dozen* threads about flash? Two things: It's a) Adobe's problem, and b) if you have blue people it means you didn't activate hardware decoding.
killer1804 wrote:I have available frequencies (at a resolution of 1280x1024) are shown as 50 and 51 - is this normal?
If you would've read the documentation, you'd know what those numbers mean. Yes, it's 100% normal.
It seems all the beef you have with nvidia is not actually nvidia's problem, but your problem in not educating yourself. The only thing you have is the console switching thing, that really is a nvidia bug that appeared recently, which affects a few card families.
But even so, comparing nouveau vs. nvidia... lack of power management, lack of hardware decoding, lack of performance. The first two are quite the problem for laptops. Nouveau does great at the basic stuff and is in active development, so it's not all bad. But the thing is, why get a nvidia card for the basics? Intel is very sufficient for those.

  • Gray spot since Security Update 2014-005 1.0 ?

Hello, yesterday I installed “Security Update 2014-005 1.0” on a Mid 2010 27’’ iMac running Mavericks 10.9.5 and a small gray spot appeared at the upper left corner of the screen, above the Apple logo. I know that dust enters sometimes to the screen but this is something different. It looks as if the pixels of that area were darkened (but not completely turned off). The spot remains the same size when applying the zoom or changing screen resolution. On white backgrounds it almost disappears. It is not reflected on screen captures.
Later on, I upgraded the system to Yosemite but the spot remained.
It’s about half a centimeter so maybe it’s just a coincidence that I noticed it exactly after installing the security update.
    Anyone experiencing something similar?

I discovered another problem: Image retention.
The picture is from the menu bar area, it reads “Safari Archivo Edición” (“Safari File Edit” in english). The other spots are just dust from my camera lens.
Image retention only appears around that upper left corner area of the screen. I’m doing tests to see how permanent the retention is. It could be that the screen is physically damaged, but maybe it’s just a software bug since I noticed the gray dark spot only after installing the software updates.

  • Spotlight's blind spot: Spotlight comments on Disk Utility disk images.

Has anyone but me noticed that Spotlight goes blind to Spotlight Comments once the files are moved into a 256-bit encrypted read/write disck image created with Disk Utility? I don't have iPhoto, and I keep photos in too many categories for that anyway. I keep all my keywords in Spotlight comments in Finder attached to each file and create "albums" on the fly with Spotlight searches.
But as soon as I moved the whole mess into a read/write 256-bit encrypted disk image created with "from folder" in Disk Utility....I can still see all the comments in Finder GetInfo, but Spotlight can't. I even tried adding comments to the search field list and it still sees nothing, not even when the disk image is mounted and visible in my Finder window sidebar.
    What am I missing?

Yes, I search while the drive is mounted.
Yes, I can drag it into and out of Spotlight's Privacy Pref's Pane. While it's in there the entire drive obviously disappears from Spotlight's searches. Once I - it from the exclude list it returns to seeing folder names only, but still finds nothing based on Spotlight Comments.
I'm starting to think Apple left that bit of code out. Anybody know how to put it back in?

  • How to add a photo filter image adjustment layer?

In this tutorial at the last step it says to add a photo filter image adjustment layer on the image to give it a warm finish, I can't see any adjustment palette as shown in image.  I use a CS3 Extended.

    Wow, again I stand corrected.
I have a perceptual "blind spot" when it comes to finding textual entries in lists.  It's a "hidden in plain sight" kind of quirk that I normally work around either by being diligent or finding another way (e.g., pressing the button I highlighted above).  I'm sure magicians and people who design camouflage would understand it.
I actually looked in both Photoshop CS5 and CS3 and didn't perceive that entry before I wrote my post above.  I probably looked right at it but didn't sense it was there.  I was even thinking of writing up a bug report.  Now, of course, since you've pointed it out, I go back and look again in my copies of Photoshop and I do see it.  It's a bit of a scary realization, as I have to wonder what else in life I've missed because of this.  I'm reminded mildly of the scene in the old film "The Andromeda Strain" where the lab worker sees a flashing red "NO GROWTH" indicator but doesn't take action on it because of an epileptic block.
Thanks again for setting me straight MTSTUNER.  I continue to learn a lot from you.

  • Seagate 7200.9 500GB internal hard drive in Power Mac G4 Firewire 800?

Thank you for the very helpful discussions on adding storage.
I want to add storage to my Mac G4 'silver door' FW 800, running OSX 10.4.11. It has a (very full) 110 GB Toshiba as it's original drive, plus a clunky Maxtor 80 GB external USB drive I've used for backup.
Due to photos and videos, mostly from documenting garden projects and creating documents about them, my drives are filling fast. I want a long term solution - and don't feel like purchasing a new computer any time soon (We're a non-profit, who can afford it these days?)
    My questions are:
I think I prefer using the internal option, since the G4 is set up to expand easily. Comments? An external 500 gb firewire drive isn't that much more expensive (~$40)
If I chose to add an internal drive, one reasonable choice seems to be a 500GB Seagate 7200.9 PATA (that's my interface, not SATA). The price is right. Will it work without problems with my G4 FW800? (The Seagate site and documents say it's Mac compatible, the box doesn't. Most online Mac vendors seem to carry the Seagate 7200.10.)
Do I need to worry about the SSC issues some Mac users have faced with Seagate drives, or does that only apply to SATA drives? Do I need to carefully read the serial number of the product, to avoid -301, which have SSC enabled and thus won't work with Apple controllers?
Will I need to buy a different cable? Or can I just plug it into the cable in the Mac (it seems set up to easily add another drive)?
Will I need to worry about BIOS limitations, or is there any other reason I might end up buying 500GB but only be able to use 137 GB? Or does the fact that my Mac already has an ultra ATA/100 solve that problem? Seagate talks about an ultra ATA/133 card - will I need to install that to avoid problems? How will that affect my existing Toshiba drive that will be bear some kind of 'master/slave' relationship to the new drive (it connects via ultra ATA/100 PATA).
If I have to get such a card, would it make more sense to simply get a SATA card? How will that affect cables and ease of installation?
If going above a certain GB size (~137 GB) will give my Mac major heartburn, should I stay under that limit for the internal drive?
Too many questions ! Sorry, moderator! But I've only got two more: I'd like to boot off my new drive, and make my existing drive the "slave". Is that relatively easy to do? Has anyone done that? Should I first hook things up as Apple and Seagate both suggest, with the original drive as Master, first?
Thanks! My questions probably show my blind spots and conceptual weaknesses - if it is clear I'm going down the wrong road, let me know.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
In a summed up answer to all of your questions; Yes, the Seagate drive will be a wonderful, compatible, fully usable, plug and play in the second drive position, addition to the internals of your tower.
No size limitations, no BIOS worries, no need for a controller card, no new cables......
Install the drive and connect to the end connector of the ATA/100 IDE cable. Make sure both drives are jumpered to Cable Select (link applies to FW800 models). The drive on the end connector will be the boot drive by cable select default. Use Disk Utility to format the new drive in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and you're ready to use the drive as you see fit.
The easiest transfer of data, OS , applications, etc., will be to use a cloning utility such as SuperDuper! or CCC. Clone the old drive to the new drive, and you will have your previous system as is, only all on the new drive. Check the operation/integrity of all applications/data, and when satisfied, the old drive may be erased to be relegated to different use.

  • Sorted list view slow.. OS9 is better..

its when making a folder view option as a list view then sort it by date or size, the window refresh slow or it doesnt refresh at all, u still the same view even if theres more files came, or bigger file saved into that folder, like the finder forgets about this window.. and the finder suddenly wakes up when u try to double click on a file that u see in the list.. it run from u and u find that u opened a different file just because the finder forgot to keep this folder updated...
its funny that in OS9 this thing never happend.. u keep seeing every thing happens all the time folder changes files keep updates more often..
is it me or OSX? though i've been suffering from it since OSX1..
my machine is: iMac 20"/2.1GHZ/1GB RAM/250GB HD/10.4.5.. so if any one thinks its slow... its not

"i've been suffering from it since OSX1.."
I'm with you on that one (10.0 for me) - the OS X "Finder" failing to refresh windows has been a complaint since the beginning of OS X. The techie types try to tell you how inefficient "polling" is and how this way is better, completely missing the point that it doesn't matter if you save a few cpu cycles if you are wasting seconds every time you want to access a file because you can't trust what the "Finder" is showing you. I had heard that "Tiger" actually improved a lot in this area (eg. with files added through the command line), but other reports have said that "Finder" does fail to update when certain apps are adding the files (I'm actually still on "Panther").
It is truly strange that the company (if only in name) that became famous for their user-centric GUI is the same one responsible for the OS X "Finder". The "Finder" with each version of "OS X" is becoming progressively less user friendly - eg. It takes more mouse clicks to rename an item (icon & list view) in "Tiger" than in earlier versions (yes, I am aware of pressing "Return"). "Tiger" also saw the elimination of "Find", replacing it with "Spotlight", which I gather is more powerful in many ways, but has some surprising blind spots. The ⌘G "Go to Folder" function apparently no longer takes you to invisible folders (although it will take you to a visible folder within an invisible one). On the topic of "invisibles", when 'AppleShowAllFiles' is enabled, all files appear grayed out, not just the ones that would normally be invisible. I had also heard that in "Tiger", you can no longer user control-tab to rotate through the various sort criteria in "List View" (Name, Date Modified, Kind, etc.) as you could in "Panther". You can no longer disable the annoying "Are you sure" warning when you change the extension of a file as you could in "Panther". The "hot scroll zone" at the bottom of a window in "List View" has been reported to be expanded compared to "Panther", so that it is almost impossible to click on a file near the bottom of a "List view" window without selecting multiple files (the problem existed in "Panther" but apparently is much more unmanageable in "Tiger"). "Panther" saw the elimination of marquée style selection in "List View", a standard in pre OS X and something that Windows does. And just compare the gaudiness of Finder "Labels" in "Panther" and "Tiger" to the more subtle yet equally informative method used in pre-OS X. And though not exactly a "Finder" problem, the introduction in "Panther" of the automatic file renaming behaviour in "Save" dialogues (which I'm not against as a feature) was done in such a way that people are prone to lose data...
umm what were we talking about? Oh yeah, "Finder" not refreshing in a timely manner in some situations. Sorry I don't have a solution, but I agree that it is likely not a problem with your hardware, but a function of a design choice made by the "Finder" developers. And it definitely is not "just you".

  • Photoshop 7 suddenly acting glitchy/crashing

I've had Photoshop 7 for years and since last year have been running it on Windows 7 in compatability mode with no problems until a few days ago. It was acting incredibly glitchy and slow and I reset preferences and that seemed to work, but I still have problems like getting "photoshop cannot complete request because of a programming error" and then the program freezes or cashes when using the paintbucket tool.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and it doesn't help even after clearing the registry entires.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to purchase a new program because this one does everything I need.

    jaspergretsch wrote:
The thing I really don't understand is how I can't uninstall the program completely no matter what I do or what programs I use to help. Every time I reinstall all my preferences are the same (the windows are all where  I had them etc.). So maybe i need to uninstall AND wipe preferences?
As you have found, uninstalling (in the time of Photoshop 7) did NOT include removal of preferences or files not created by the installer, such as those that store the locations of your last used dialogs.
It's no less than a failure of Adobe's installer writers to provide you the ability, in their installer package, to do a FULL uninstall.  They have overcome this largely with newer versions via the "Creative Suite Complete Removal Tool", though even that still has some blind spots.
To be fair, most applications don't bother to fully remove themselves, and I consider it a failure of the software development industry to focus on anything other than the prize ("sell it and forget the customer").  It IS possible to do; it's just laziness that it is not done.
There might be those who would say, "but I wouldn't want to necessarily lose my preferences on an uninstall / reinstall", for which I would answer:  So have the installer writers provide an option checkbox (as seen in modern versions) to allow the user to select to remove preferences - or not.
Jasper, check Windows Update for any recent driver updates you might have received.  You might be able to overcome driver problems (such as those that may be behind your Bucket Fill Tool crash) by downloading even newer drivers directly from the web site of the manufacturer of your video card (rather than through the Microsoft WHQL process).

  • Really need basic information

i am about to change from toshiba satellite a200 to a mac (still confuse of macbook or macbook pro). i want to know and need some basic informations, because it's relly my blind spot:
    1. is macbook already enough for design usage (than macbook pro, but i want to know if macbook is already ok)?
    2. what about its bluetooth connectivity, could it connect with all kinds of bluetooth?
    3. can i install ms. office 2007 without remove its mac os program, and without installing windows program (this one really need a complete explanation i think)?
    4. what are the basic programs macbook have?
    please answer asap

    Potter:
The macbook is enough machine for you to start with basic design and editing. But you will notice a significant difference between the quality and colors when comparing a macbook to a macbook pro. Either is a good choice but I assure you that you will not be disappointed if you spring for the pro.
The Bluetooth capabilities are great on both machines. you can sink up with phones, other computers, mouses and keyboard, etc. It really is nice.
You wont be able to install microsoft office 2007 since there isnt a microsoft office 2007 for macs. you would either have to go with 2004 which was written for the ppc chipset and will have a little bit of a delay from the translation of the program or go with the brand new 2008 which is written for the intel chips.
and this site will give you a simple detail about all the software that comes installed. http://www.apple.com/macbook/software.html
    hope this helps

  • Flooded with error: Table RequestUsage_PartitionX has 442892288 bytes that has exceeded the max bytes 442857142

    Hi all,
Since last week my 2013 farm (3 WFE, 3 App server, SQL 2012) application event log flooded with error every 5 minutes.
Table RequestUsage_PartitionX has 442892288 bytes that has exceeded the max bytes 442857142.
I have google the error and only found Steve Mann's blog discussing about this.  Yet there is no additional information in terms of how to fix it.  Just wondering if anybody has seen this and know how to fix it?
Appreciate any suggestion and thanks in advance.
    Sally

    Hi  Sally,
    Thank you for your posting!
For your error, it is coming from the Usage Infrastructure. The root cause is that your SharePoint Server  usage data is exceeding the daily partition size for the logging DataBase.
For more detailed information, you can refer to the blog:

Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • No warning iOS 6 would erase my contacts!!

My life is ruined. People are gone from my life. Thanks, Apple.
Your update asked me about backing up contacts. phone, etc., on iCloud AFTER the update was completed!!
Nice going. That's effing brilliant work, guys. Good job of considering the customer's needs.

When I frst got the phone, I tried to sync it with iCloud. Unbeknownest to me, that didn't succeed. Apple says there's a partial back-up in my history only. So, your solution isn't helping me. As for an address book on my computer, that's got the same blank iCloud, since the iPhone update installed iCloud on my Apple ID. If you mean, address book through Google, that seems to be synched to my facebook contacts -- not phone numbers. So, they're all gone, Mr. Smarty-Pants.  I didn't know what I was doing before -- but when my contacts disappeared, you can be sure I delved into what happened and the various possibilities of recovery. I didn't ask for your help with it. I was venting about Apple's programming blind-spot. They're all "iCloud" and "synching" with other devices...whereas I all I wanted was a dang phone that stored my numbers so I could call them when I needed.

  • My CS5 quit working in 64 mode

I downloaded CS5 last week with no problem.  It was running great until yesterday.  I had used Photoshop for a picture saved it and then shut down photoshop and opened Corel Painter 11 to paint the photo.  After I finished in Painter I saved the picture closed Corel Painter and tried to open Photoshop in 64 mode.  I kept getting an error that there was a problem and it would not open.  I could open Photoshop in 32 mode however.  I finally took CS5 off of my computer and then uploaded again but it still did not resolve my problem.  It still would not open in 64 mode.  My solution was to roll back the computer to an earlier time when Photoshop was working.  It did resolve my problem but I wonder why this happened.  I was using an Intuos 4 Wacom Tablet when this happened and have used it since then with no problem.  I am using CS5 with Windows 7 on a HP Pentium with 8 gbs of memory.  Any suggestions would be appreciated as I don't want this to reoccur.

With the release of something as big as Photoshop CS5 only a little over a month ago, I/O device manufacturers are still actively scrambling to update their stuff.  The dust will settle in time.
Some folks have embraced 64 bit computing for many years, and some are being dragged kicking and screaming into the future even today.  Note, for example, how many packages didn't come with 64 bit Shell Extensions (e.g., right-click menus in the 64 bit Explorer) until Microsoft actually made it impossible to run the 32 bit Explorer on Windows 7 x64 at the time of release.
The funniest thing is that for the most part the source code for an application for 64 bits can be virtually identical to the code for 32 bits.  You have to have taken some bad shortcuts in the 32 bit code (like stuffing pointers in integers) to not be able to almost instantly build for 64 bits.
The 64 bit / 32 bit thing really has uncovered some interesting blind spots in various development organizations.  In a sense, the sloppier developers have been outed.

  • Can I use a Time Capsule to extend my wireless network.

Hi, I have just bought a 3TB time capsule as my old (flat style) 500GB TC is reaching full capacity. The old style TC will then be surplus to requirements as a data storage unit, at least for myself, though it might be useful for my son to use as his Time Capsule.
Ideally, as we have a wireless 'blind spot' out in the rear extension of the house, it would be useful to use the unit to extend my wireless network (and also use it as a separate TC if possible). Is this possible? If it is how would I go about it?
    Hope someone can help . . . .
    Cheers
    John

Is it possible for you to consider connecting the Time Capsules together using a wired Ethernet connection?
Here is what Apple has to say in their support document about extending:
Adding Wi-Fi base stations when it is unnecessary can reduce Wi-Fi throughput because the Wi-Fi network will require more data management overhead. The network configuration also becomes more complex. In the case of a wirelessly extended network, throughput may be reduced to less than 60 percent of that of a single device. The general rule is to keep the Wi-Fi network as simple as possible. You can accomplish this by using the minimum number of Wi-Fi base stations required to service the physical network area and by using Ethernet wherever possible.
Extending the range of your Wi-Fi network by connecting Wi-Fi base stations together using Ethernet is always the best option, and will provide the best throughput.
