Blinking amber in time capsule

Hi,
i am experiencing some trouble while configuring my time capsule for the 1st time.. the airport utility software locates the device but when i try to configure, it errors out with error code -4. i also tried to reset it but no luck.
strange thing is that i am able to access internet in my laptop (windows 7)  through time capsule. the device is new and there is no password set for it.
also the led continuously blinks amber.

Is this a cable modem? It has to be off for at least 20min and sometimes much longer before it will give up the old settings. You might even need to power down the cable modem overnight.
Tell us exactly what broadband you have with what ISP and exact model of modem..
The new TC cannot be setup without using the latest airport utility 6.3.1 or 6.3.2 and you need Lion - Mavericks to use it.
The computer also needs to have ipv6 setup to local link on whatever you are connecting with, wireless or ethernet.

  • Blinking orange light - time capsule - icpw error

my time capsule 2 has a blinking orange light and when I right click and hit assist me the error reads icpw check for software update.  I follow the instructions to update the software and all software is current.  How can I fix this error?  my wireless network is down  Thanks

Hi - I saw that no one answered your question and although I don't have a TC, I like to learn - so I did some research (the search box on this forum and Google) and iCPW seems to mean "incorrect password" - it may be that the TC or AU is picking up a password problem somewhere in your system - it could be a changed Apple ID or iCloud issue or ????? - so you have to do some detective work and track it down - other posts have referred to these things - the common thread was that if the firmware was updated and the latest AU was used, the error was indentified more accurately - in one case the person changed their Apple ID and the error went away - anyway, I hope some of this is helpful.

  • Lion Upgrade Complete... Time Capsule Not Found?

Just upgraded to Lion on my MacBook Pro.  No longer able to see my Time Capsule (which I only use as a backup device)?  Any Ideas... I tried the thread in a message below to adjust the name of the device, but my MacBook no longer recognizes or can find on rescan the Time Capsule.  It is on, and plugged in, with a slow yellow blinking light.

My time capsule is reporting normal operation.  It is connected directly to ethernet, not wireless and it is not an access point.  here is the message
There is a problem connecting to the server " Dean-Nebrigs-Time-Capsule.local".
Any words of wisdom to get this Apple device to work with Apple Lion?

Open Airport Utility and click on the TC. Click on the orange dot which should tell you why it's blinking. Usually a setting is missing or incorrect.

  • Dell T3500 Blinking Amber 1-3 (4x) issue

I have a problem with my Dell Precision T3500, the issue is that whenever I try to start the computer the power button it blinks amber 4 times and gives the number code 1 and 3 however it does turn on after a while. I assumed that it was something to do with the motherboard hwoever I am not sure since there isn't many problems like this on the internet where I could find a solution. I looked in the manual and the closest thing I could find was that it was a PSU or PSU cable problem. If anyone has a solution or answer for this I would be very grateful. The T3500 currently has a Nvidia GTX 260 installed with 4GB of ram. In addition if it is a PSU problem could you please list what PSU are compatible with the T3500 such as a T5500 PSU or a T7400. Thank you for your support.

I hope your machine is still under warranty :)  I've had this happen to 5 of my T3500s.  The fix is a new power supply.  Each time they've sent out the power supply, they've also sent out a new motherboard.  I think there's obviously a big problem with the power supplies in these T3500s, as each one from our initial purchase has had the same issue (we have a bunch of newer ones that haven't shown the problem, at least not yet).
Each time it happens I request that the tech person try to make this a known issue (and perhaps trigger some kind of extended warranty/recall), but so far no progress there....
Leaving it unplugged for a bit seems to fix it temporarily, but then we're scared to turn the machines back off.

  • I am having problems reestablishing my Time Capsule.  I had to get a new internet modem and that seemed to screw up my Time Capsule.  The amber light keeps blinking and it's not being picked up when my Macbook scans or when my PC scans for the wireless ne

I can't find my Time Capsule on my networks anymore.  It's like it doesn't exist. We got hit by a storm and that might have caused our internet modem from ATT to fry.  I replaced the modem today but now my Time Capsule isnt working.  It's blinking amber.  The PC its connected to through the ATT modem isn't finding it as it scans and its not in utilities.  My MacBook isn't finding the time capsule either when it scans.  Whenever I hooked up all the wires to the time capsule and the modem, the internet stops working.  I've tried resetting the time capsule but it's still blinking.  I had all my computer equipment on a power surge protector. A pretty good one.  All my other equipment is fine.  The ATT modem was old, so I thought it might not have even been the lightening.  Nothing else in home was injured by storm.  I am freaking out and need help!!!  I can't use my MACbook to do my internet work and all my files were backed up on the time capsule.
Another problem. My Time Machine isn't backing up now either.  What is up with that?
I would be soooo grateful if someone can help me!  Thanks a million!

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

    Hello,
I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

  • HT1178 My Time Capsule is only blinking amber. My computer tried to backup but I don't know how to tell if it did in fact back up the data. How can I tell if it backed up and why doesn't the light show green?

Just purchased a Time Capsule. Had to call Comcast to disable the WIFI and have internet connection. The time capsule though blinks amber and the Airport Utility shows blinking amber light and has a red circle with the number 1 in it. After connecting, my computer tried doing a backup for the first time and it appeared that it was backing up and finished although I don't know how to check to make sure that it did backup. How do I check and shouldn't the light on the time capsule be blinking green and the airport utility show green?

TM will show it has done a backup.. Look at the info.. when was the backup completed??

There is an error.. probably trivial.. firmware update, default password..
Open the airport utility and find out what the error is.
Simply click the TC and see status in the summary page.. it will list all the errors and what you should do.. fix or ignore them. ie this TC has an error.. default password.. I chose to ignore.. when I "fix" the problem the LED goes green.
Here is additional TC.. it is blinking amber with faults.
Click the fault. eg default password.
You can ignore or edit .. if you click edit it will take you to the full setup where you can change the settings.
I ignored my errors and now it is green..

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

plugged in the ethernet cable from the cable modem
plugged in the time capsule power

trying to resolve a blinking amber light on my Time Capsule. The problem is i don't see the airport utilities under Apps/Utilities to try and reset..any ideas?

AirPort Utility should be here:  Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
If it is not there, you can download it from here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Temporarily, connect an Etherent cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the back of the Time Capsule
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining along with suggested actions to remedy the issue

  • My time capsule is blinking amber

It just started doing it, and I can't seem to get anything to connect to the internet. It shows in the airport utility, but its blinking in there as well, and the internet light is yellow.

Go ahead and hook up the Time Capsule again as it is normally configured.
Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click Software Update to see if there are any updates for AirPort Utility.
You want to be using AirPort Utility 6.3.1, which is supposed to fix some bugs, like the disappearing Time Capsule.
If you have a Mac laptop, try temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from the Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to check if AirPort Utility can "see" the Time Capsule that way.
If yes, click directly on the amber dot and a message will appear with more info about the issue.

  • Time Capsule Blinking Amber.  What to do?

    Hi Guys,
So I've been away from my home for the last 3 months, and on my return, my Time Capsule is blinking amber and my Mac cannot see the Capsule at all. I use my TC also as a Hard drive space too. I'm afraid that if I unplug my TC and hold the reset button, it'll wipe the drive or something. Has anyone had this issue before? How would one fix this? I'd hate to lose my data that I already have on it. My Airport Utility doesn't see the TC either. Please Help!! Anyone. Thanks Guys.

When AirPort Utility cannot find the device after multiple tries and methods, the next logical step is to hard reset the Time Capsule and reconfigure the settings. To do this, make sure the TC is powered on and then hold in the reset button until the amber light blinks quickly. This usually will take 5-7 seconds on average.
Power down the TC and computer, connect the ethernet cable between the computer and one of the LAN ports on the TC and open AirPort Utility to see if the TC can now be seen.
If that doesn't work, the only other option is to reset the TC back to factory defaults and try the configuration again. To do the factory default reset:
    Power down the Time Capsule
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approx 10 seconds.
Connect the ethernet cable as above and give that a try.
