Blinking amber, not able to do a factory reset?

My AE is blinking amber and have been trying to do a factory reset by unplugging and pushing in reset button and then plugging back in. Each time I try i keep getting a blinking light, i don't get the flashing light that means the system has done a reset? AE also won't show up in Airport utility? What to do?

It sometimes takes several tries to reset the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) until you are successful. However, if you have given it a reasonable amount of tries and are still having trouble accessing it with the AirPort Utility, even if your computer is connected to it directly via Ethernet, the base station may be faulty. If that is the case, I suggest that you take it back to your local Apple Retailer to have them take a look.

Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

AExpress blinking amber/not always allowing PB to connect?

I have an airport express wth the cable modem hooked up directly to the ethernet port, and then the AExpress plugged into the wall. I am using a PB G4 to connect to the network, and using version 4.2 of Airport.
At first I was setting up my airport express in the closet, and the LED was blinking amber and wouldn't allow my PB to see it as an available network. So I brought it out of the closet in to the open and got my network set up beautifully. Then, I unplugged the airport express to put it in its permanent position, but this time after plugging it back in, I was able to long onto the network but can't get to the internet now and the LED is blinking amber again, no more solid green.
This second time around im positive it isn't interference, i brought it out into the open room with nothing around it, we dont have any 2.4 Ghz phones, no cordless phones at all actually.
Im stumped, I have no idea, I tried turning on interference robustness and even changing the channels in Airport Admin Utility, but to no avail.
Any ideas?

yes actually, the blinking amber means it does not have a valid IP address. make sure you have DHCP routing turned on in airpot admin. you might also try downgrading your firmware to version 6.1.1. this solved many problems for me.

Not able to Use it after resetting phone to its factory setting !!

My brother bought an Iphone 4s from his friend. We did reset in order to remove his friend's accounts and everything phone had in it. What happened is we're not able login as It turned out FindMyIphone app was installed and nobody knows the login details including his friend It's been 3 days and I can't see my little brother's sad face. If the iPhone has Activation Lock - that is, it's asking for the previous owner's Apple ID and password to activate the device - then you will need that information, or you'll need to get the previous owner to remove the device from his/her iCloud account:

If your brother's "friend" has forgotten his Apple ID and password, the "friend" will have to recover it, either by this web page:

or by calling Apple Support and asking to speak with Account Security.
If this "friend" is unable or unwilling to recover his Apple ID so as to be able to clear Activation Lock, then the device is unusable. Your brother should return the iPhone to this "friend" and get his money back.

My airport express seems to no longer be supported by Apple. Was working fine, just blinking amber. So tried to update and reset, but update will not install with Lion? Im disgusted.

Airport express was blinking yellow. Tried to update, but my computer said update is not supported (yellow exclamation points). I have a mac pro with Lion and latest updates. So I reset express, yes that was a mistake because it was at least functioning on my stereo, now it does not function at all and shows on my wifi as "airport express", used to be labled "stereo". So it asks for an update, I download the update, but computer will not allow update to be installed. I will buy a newer one if I have to because I enjoy it's function, but I will be extremely disgusted with Apple to have to do so.

If you are using Lion...as you indicate...is it possible that you mistakenly downloaded the incorrect version of AirPort Utility?

Not able to create connection or reset the password in Discoverer Plus

I keep encountering errors when
I try to create a connection or change my password. Below are the error I get.
During Change of Password:
"An invalid connection key was specified. Please correct the connection

Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule and has a blinking amber light

I have a wireless router for my Wifi set up through AT&T (2WIRE). I am trying to add my TC to my existing network rather than establishing a new Wifi network with it. When I try to plug in my TC to set it up, Airport Utility cannot even find it. My TC has a blinking amber light also. I have tried reseting my TC, resetting my router, unplugging my router, unplugging my TC... I have the latest version of Air Port utility (6.2 (620.33)).

Connect the TC LAN port to the computer by ethernet.
If necessary do a reset of the TC so it shows up.
Put the TC into bridge mode.
Go to the wireless page, and set wireless to off.
Update the TC.. disconnect from the PC and plug WAN port to LAN port of the 2wire with ethernet.
The TC will now exist as a client in your network without creating a second wireless network.
You should also be able to access the TC via the airport utility.
I do think you should use the TC wireless since the 2wire does not provide a signal at 5ghz which is much faster than 2.4ghz.
So I do suggest you in fact do use the wireless but it is up to you.
It makes no difference having two wireless networks if they both connect back to the same router.
Do not use the "Join a wireless network" method.. ie no cable between the TC and 2wire.. that is poorest possible setup.

I've checked around but I think I've hit a wall on solutions.
I was a PC guy who switched to a mac. Due to some other related projects, I hadn't gotten around to using the AE I had bought as a PC guy and used with no problems. Now that I'm on the Mac, I seem to be at a loss to get this thing to work with the mac.
I've held the reset buttons as instructed but the thing is non-responsive. When I plug it into the ac outlets, it blinks a solid amber and then eventually goes to a blinking amber. When I try a "hard reset" I can't get that to work.
I've open airport utility and the AE does not show up there.
Doesn't show up in itunes.
I'm stuck. Not sure what to do from here.

Follow the "factory default reset" procedure described here:

... and keep holding down the reset button until you see the four green flashes, which takes 10-15 seconds (longer than the article suggests). No four green flashes = procedure not followed properly.
At this point, the Airport Express light should flash amber. That is normal, unless it has been cabled to another network or to a cable/DSL modem.
Then turn on your Mac's Airport interface from the Airport menu item (fan-shaped icon near the right side of the MacOS menu bar), and also look for the Airport Express's wireless network when you click on that menu item. It should appear there - and will be called "Apple Network xxxxxx".
If that all checks out, run the Airport Utility. It should now "see" your Airport Express.

My airport express shows the blinking amber light. I've tried to reset it but since I've got no luck at all it seems the reset button isn't working. My airport utility wont find the airport express, I tried finding it with wi-fi/ethernet but it wont come up. Ideas?

Be sure to press and hold the reset button for sufficient time for the LED to blink rapidly, then release it. It will take five to ten seconds. It will then illuminate solid amber for about a minute, after which it will flash amber, slowly. That is when AirPort Utility should be able to recognize it.
You should feel, and may hear, a barely perceptible click when you press the button. There are anecdotal reports of users who may have damaged the reset button by pressing too hard, so don't do that.

Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

What model of AirPort Express do you have? If you are not sure, please locate the model number on the side or bottom of the AirPort Express. It starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. It might be something like A1264 or A1392.
What version of AirPort Utility are you using? If you are not sure, please open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen, and then click on About AirPort Utility.

Green/amber lights blink & Mac not recognizing unit

I used iTunes and loaded music onto my shuffle this morning with no problems. I listened to it for about an hour and a half. Later, I plugged it into my computer. The computer and iTunes no longer recognizes the unit. Our other computer does not recognize it either. When I connect it to the USB port, it:
1)blinks green once
2)pauses
3)blinks green/amber together
4)blinks amber thereafter
It still plays music... but of course I can't update the play list and do not know if it is actually charging.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated! I'm unable to do the restore since the computer doesn't know it's connected.

What does Apple System Profiler say about the USB tree AND the "iPod"? Also, disconnect the Shuffle, reboot and try again.
BTW, the light sequence you listed is perfectly NORMAL...with the exception that something is accessing the Shuffle OR it's "enabled for data" e.g. it's being seen as a flash drive.

I know why, cause Apple signed contracts with each carrier so the carrier could increase their sales making customers sign 2 year contracts, I get it, I own my own business, but the delay of releasing factory unlocked ones is just not right and I should be able to buy one without having to buy it over in the UK where it is unlocked when it comes out right away, I should be able to buy it in my own country! These business practices we practice in the US need to stop, their is a demand that needs to be met with consumers like myself who don't need subsidized iPhone's with 2 year contracts with carriers and don't mine paying full price for an unlocked one, it is unethical in a sense, forcing the customer to buy it with a carrier contract and NOT giving the customer the option to buy it full price and own it themselves, OR, making the consumer wait a month for that option to be available. THEY SHOULD BE RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!! THAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!!!
Apple can contact me and I will proudly pay for one. But making me wait a month for an unlocked one, puts AT&T, Sprint & Verizon's interests before mine, and that is not right, for it is MY money that keeps you guys in business, so my best interests should come first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand your frustration, but when any form of rationing is required you have to prioritise. The number of unlocked vs packaged phones will be quite small and the number of unlocked buyers wishing to upgrade immediately will be smaller still. Against this you have the corporations sharing $billions between them.
It would, you're correct, have been fairer to release all at the same time, but fairer doesn't come into it: it's business.
