Blinking globe when start up?

this usually doesnt happen but lately when i start up my mac a blinking globe appears for about 1 min. then goes away?

roam,
The OP's problem is similar but not the same as the previous topic you allude to. The OP has a Network blinking icon and not a flashing question mark on a folder.
Just wanted to clarify. Similar troubleshooting but this is a seperate issue from what was posted in the other topic.

  • Image of globe when start up

When i start up in the morning, i get a gray screen. it lingers for a while, then a gray image of a globe/earth pops up in the middle of the screen where the apple icon normally would. the globe flashes on an off for about 60 secs. then the apple icon replaces it and the computer boots up normally. this concerns me as i've never seen it before and do not know what it indicates. can someone help me?

The globe indicates that the system is searching the network for a NetBoot server from which to start up. Open the Startup Disk system preference and select your system's internal hard drive and it should stop doing that.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)

  • IBook G4 blinks out when screen moved; use crash logs to diagnose?

My iBook G4 (bought 1.5 years ago) blinks out when the screen's position is even slightly adjusted. Sometimes it doesn't care to wake from sleep, either.
Would it be possible to figure out what's going wrong by examining the console logs?
Thanks - if this is the time for a repair, I'm hoping the computer itself can tell me the problem.
    Greg

It sounds like you may have two different problems. Waking from sleep and shutting down because of movement are probably not related. However, I would recommend you have an Apple Authorized Service Provider check out your iBook out for the crashing problem first. That could be a hardware problem. Once that's been eliminated, then you could start troubleshooting your wake from sleep problems.
The logs might be much better at determining a software problem, since you can see what command or software might have been causing trouble. If your iBook shuts down because of a hardware problem, that kind of trouble isn't really being tracked by the logs. Only the operating system & software functions are.

  • Blinky globe when booting from netinstall

    Hi,
Im trying to set up a simple netinstall on my Xserve 10.5.2. I have made my image from a 10.5 DVD and I can see the image on the client, when choose a boot drive in System Preferences.
But when the client boots all I get is a blinking globe. After a while the client boots normally on the internal harddrive.
I have checked everything, but I cant find the problem. I hope you can guide me in the right direction so I can find the problem and get the netinstall working.
    Regards
    Johannes

I'm not familiar with nietinstall in 10.5 to point you to a particular problem or solution.
What you can try to get some clues is to try to boot again form the netinstall image and hold down Command-V when you boot. This will put you in verbose mode perhaps providing some clues.
You can also check out the logs on the client and the server for clues.
The fact that you get the blinking globe means your client is trying to run form the image, but it's failing somewhere (you knew that).

  • Blinking globe of doom

Here's my setup: 49 XServes, one as the head node of the cluster offering the services, DHCP, AFP, NFS, etc.
Previously, it would netboot the other XServes just fine.
I tweaked my NetRestore config and went to boot some of them to reimage them, and now NetBoot is no worky. The clients can all get the information about the available netboot volume and such, but when I hit restart, they sit at the blinking globe, and no message show up in the system.log of the head node.
I've made new image sets, restarted the service, twiddled with the settings, nothing.
All the machines have both their primary and secondary ethernet addresses in the filter list (most are G4s with the stock PCI ethernet card for the secondary).
But in the end, just that blinking globe.
    And ideas?

    Hi
You are not alone! See my message from yesterday (JohnW). My new Pearl 8120 does exactly the same. Seems to be a completely random happening. Often seems to happen right near the end of a long text mesage, on the other hand I have witnessed it when I was not even touching it. So far no-one has replied to my posting.
I too have done all the soft reset stuff. I have also powered down and left it alone overnight, but it still happens randomly and it takes quite a while to re-boot. Major irritation as far as I am concerned!!
Some one must have the answer...not even sure how you get an answer from the makers.
Let me know if you have any luck.

  • Error message when starting MaxDB instance

I am getting the following Error message when starting the MaxDB instance after a series of failed attempts at starting the DB Manager Backup for our PI 7.1 server.
    "-24994,ERR_RTE: Runtime environment error
1,Cannot create ipc db directories for SID (OS error code 11000)"
    Max DB version : 7.7.02
Does anyone have any specific pointers on where the issue could be.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi gurus,
I'm a complete newbye searching the forums in order to decrypt what is inconsistent to me (I'm acting as a substitute for a real dba): a sapdb refusing any more connection due to an 'user space exhausted' issue.
I do not even know if/where some admin tool is/isn't installed - eventually, what to look for - onto the running demianapachetomcat framework. Actually, all I have been provided was: 1. call 'Henplus' (done); 2. connect this way (jdbc:sapdb://localhost/database&options) and 3. select, upgrade, delete what needed. Problem arises on point (2): connection resufed 'user space exhausted'.
My question is: this issue seems so similar to mine, how can one eventually check/modify this '/sapdb directory space'?
Thanks in advance for any (much appreciated) hint, and be patient about my English and newbyeness (?).

  • Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start

Just a random question. Whenever my MacBook Pro starts up (either from sleep or a complete/fresh start, the OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present. While this may be normal behavior, it seems to slow down the start up process. (I rarely ever have a disc in the drive). Just curious if this, in fact, normal, or if there's something awry.

Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start
    No
he OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present.
How can you tell? Based on the noise it makes?

Has anyone experienced any difficulties when starting weblogic in debug mode.

  • Error when starting work item

    Hi
    We are having SRM5.0.
Trying to create Contract. Workflow Without approval of contract(WS1400086)is activated and start conditions also no workflow activated.
Contract is created and getting message Contract created.
But when tried to release the contract it shows "Awaiting approval".
In Workflow log (SWI1)it shows error."Error when starting work item xxxx".
What could be the reason. Please let me know the solution if anyone of you come across such error.
    Thanks in advance
    Jagadish

    Masa
It is maintained as General task already.
It seems the workflow task WS14000085 does not have definition.
When checked in SWDD for the above teask there are no steps defined for that workflow.
SAP says that we need to define and action for workflow WS14000085.
But what is the procedure to define the workflow.
I presume this is the standard workflow and it should be defined by default when it comes along with the SRM package.
Anyone of you know how to define the workflow and activate the same?
    Regards

  • Error when starting parser: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL:'TfSAPCMRC'

    Hello experts.
When I try to preview or refresh a Crystal Report document built on a BEx query I get the following error msg:
Database connector error: BAPI Error #0. Error when starting parser: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'TfSAPCMRCV'.
We have done as suggested in "SAP Note 1032461 - MDX parser does not start", but without success.
This is what we've tried so far:
replaced the file "librfc32.dll" (in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64)  with the new version mentioned in Note 413708.
tested the connection in SM59 - non successful
tested the report query with transaction MDXTEST - non successful
tried to start the mdxparser manually on server - non succesful, error msg: "The application failed to initialise.."
    We have the following config:
    MS server 2003 SP2 x64 ed.
    SAP logon 7.20
    MS SQL server 2005
    CR 2008
    new librfc32.dll version 7200.1.39.6461
Any ideas on what to try next would be highly appreciated!
    Cheers, IngA

    Hi Ingo.
We have only one application server.
I registered the new version of the file C:\windows\SysWOW64\librfc32.dll with regsvr32.exe successfully. I've also tried to copy the new file to the same directory as the mdxsvr.exe-file is located, but it made no difference.
Should I remove all other copies of librfc32.dll and only keep the one in folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64, or maybe register them all with regsvr32.exe?

  • Error when starting a SWITCH branch (8987)

    Hi,
I am testing my workflow which starting with a multiple condition (switch). The workflow process is stopped with the error:
Error when starting a SWITCH branch (8987).
The workflow check shows no warnings or errors. What could be the problem?
    Thank you in advance.

Check the workflow container (of the started workflow instance) and see if you spot a problem with one of the container objects used in your switch conditions.
