Blinking LED lights (possible processor issue)

I tried to turn my laptop on today but I was greeted with a blank screen and 2 blinking LED lights. According to the code thing they have here it might be indicating I have a processor issue, is there any way I can fix this or am I screwed? I've gone through google and this seems to be a bit of an issue with certain HP laptops.
I'm running an HP pavilion dv4-2145dx with windows 7. My warranty is also gone.

Hi,
I think your machine has a serious mainboard malfunction. The solderings can be ok, but have you a microscope to check it like a high-grade technician or engineer? The other point is: It can be a malfunctioning resistor or capacitor or whatever, I personally think it must be something like this since the described error points on something of the power subsystem.
You can also try another thing: If you have your keyboard removed and could look under it on the mainboard, then you can try to disconnect a flat cable which must be located on the lower section before the handrest comes. Its not a thin rather a tall flatcable which should be for the panel in front of your machine (which is for the multimedia keys and so on) and disconnect it. Check whats happening, if nothing then you have def. a malfunctioning mainboard, if the machine starts then the front panel pcb is defective and must be replaced.

  • Blinking LED light on startup. MacPro won't boot.

I've had this happen before so I pulled all 8 ram chips, a total of 20gig. I put two 4 gig cards back in slot one for riser A & B only and was able to reboot. I figured it was a ram issue. I added all new ram chips that I new were good filling the rest of the DIMM slots on both risers. The rest were matching 2 gig. Reboot went fine. But for some reason Dimm slots 2 and 4 on both risers are showing up empty in the about this mac "Memory" panel and I'm only registring 12gig from a total of 20gig.  So any ideas? How would I determine if it's the riser cards or the mother board?
I appreciate any suggestions for trouble shooting.

Well, if it doesn't matter which dimms are in those slots, and it's always the same two slots, I guess it really is a hardware problem.  I don't know what else you can do to diagnose it.
It could be a costly repair.  If the machine runs fine without using those slots can you "live" without them?

  • Help with Curve 9300...just quit, only blinking LED!!

I just got this phone due to AT&T take over of Alltel....It has only been activated about a week. I was in the process of syncing from my computer to the phone, and the desktop manager prompted that the device was not on....I looked and the screen was black, with only the red LED light blinking randomly in the upper right corner. I have removed the battery for as long as ten minutes and still NOTHING!
Previously, when I plugged into the computer, it immediately popped up on the computer screen....now it does nothing....I have tried to hold the green "call" button down....nothing....just the red  random blinking LED light !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Can someone help please??

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like your Notebook has a blinking/flashing CAPSLOCK light and a blank screen all the time
Whenever the Capslock LED Blinks once that means CPU not functional and we need to replace the Processor
However, I would request with you to perform the below shown step before contacting HP
Step 01. Turn OFF the Notebook
Step 02. Un-plug the Power/AC Adapter and also remove the battery too
Step 03. Press and Hold the Power Button on the Notebook for a full minute
Step 04. Test your Notebook with Battery and Power Adapter alone
Note: If you are still facing the same issue try to remove and reseat the Memory Modules of your Notebook

  • TX2517ca, wont Boot - Blinking blue LED lights - Num Lock & Caps Lock

notebook just decided NOT to boot one day..I can hear the fan and very minimal HDD activity. I've tried the Hard reset as directed by HP and removed the battery etc...  the lights blink exactly the same time, stay on for 1 sec, and the off for 3 seconds and then blink simultaneously again, and doesn't stop till I pull the power, there is no clicking, grinding, beeping nothing, nothing on the screen at all. The rest of the lighted buttons are solid blue.
FYI, I am a computer technician of 15 years...home based at this time. so I have pulled the memory, cleaned them, 2 (1GB & 2Gb), compress air dried them and blue out the slots and reseated even by doing only 1 at a time, no change, same end result, blinking LED's. So I just pulled the Hard drive, connected it to another machine as an external HDD, it works fine, I can see the C drive and the Recovery drive without any problems. so at this point I have just pulled the battery from the board and will leave for a while to see if we can drain the BIOS/CMOS (wondering if software is stuck in hibernate or sleep and when powering on is only returning to similiar state, but wouldn't account for no screen display...) everything so far is pointing to CPU I would think. Next after replacing existing Hard drive and try booting if that doesn't work, I have a working blank Hard drive I can insert to try for the hell of it...stay tuned...
Oh, also system is immaculate, no collected hair or dust in fan ports etc..
    This question was solved.

You could turn up the brightness of your display.  It's also possible the backlighting has gone bad.

  • Hp pavillion dv7-3065 laptop will not turn on - led light blinks, ac's light on?

HP Pavillion dv7-3065 with Windows 7.
I fell asleep two days ago, and when I woke up yesterday, my laptop was off. (The battery very well may have died while I was sleeping, or just shut off on its own. I don't know which.) I tried turning it on, but nothing happened... except for the lightning bolt (LED light) blinking three times. No noises inside, blank screen, nothing aside those three blinks.
For the record, I've already tried removing the battery. I've also tried removing the battery, removing the AC cord, and holding in the power button for 30+ seconds. It didn't work.
I've tried removing the battery and running off AC. This still doesn't work. However, the laptop recognizes that it's plugged in; the little light by it is consistantly on. I've also tested my laptop with another AC adapter just to be safe. Nothing.
My laptop has been tested without harddrive/etc, but I'm still at a blank. I don't know what else to do. My boyfriend, who's in school to be an IT, took it into his teacher, who messed around with it, and came up with a few conclusions.
He believes that because the lights are flashing, he's confidant that my motherboard is fine. He said to replace the battery, and if that doesn't work, solder the ...I forgot what exactly, but basically it's the charging connection. I forget what exactly. My apologies there.
However... I feel like replacing the battery would be a waste of money... Because regardless of battery, the laptop should still turn on with the AC cord. My boyfriend intends to bring this up and ask if he can just skip to the other thing anyway, but he doesn't have that class again for a week, and I'm at a loss of what else to do. Aside from that, his teacher says there's a limited number of other things that could be wrong...
I was hoping to get some more input...

This won't help you out, but I am experiencing the same problem... I am gonna look on this post to see if you get an answer!
I have the same problem! Except I did manage to get mine to turn on. After doing the hold the power down thing. Nothing happened. I did leave the lap top on cause I was irritated and walked away, about an hour later it came on. It let me turn it on and off a few times. Then stopped. Then leaving it sit on stopped working too

  • LED lights issue / battery problems

Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked in some old threads but didn't find an answer...
When I plug the MagSafe adapter into my computer, the LED lights up for 2 secs when I plug it in and then goes out. I seem to be using my battery power.
But if I take the battery out, then the LED becomes green again and it is powered by the adapter once again.
I followed a troubleshooting article but no luck? Can someone explain what is going on here?

Follow Rod's link to the "[how to clean the MagSafe connector|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303240]" tech article and make sure both the plug on the cable as well as the connector on the Mac are perfectly clean and debris-free. My connector tends to pick up lint from God-knows-where and after awhile the plug does not seat completely in, after which I start getting the blinking lights; a good cleaning has always restored functionality. If that doesn't remedy the problem, you will probably need Apple support.
In order to know for sure if it is charging, you may want to open System Preferences, select Energy Saver, go to the Options tab and tick the "Show battery status on the menu bar" option. That way you can see what's going on at all times with the icon on the menubar.

  • Phone turns off and led light blinks wont turn back on

I have the 8100 and have had it for about 2 weeks I bought it off line since my old phone broke. This morning I took it off my charger and went to a meeting after the meeting I looked at my phone and the led light was blinking I hit a button and nothing happened. I then tried to turn the phone back on but nothing happened. I removed the battery waited 5 minutes then put it back in and it started to work again. But again the same thing happened. I tried this multiple times but nothing change it still went back after a few minutes. I took the battery out sim card and memory card out for an hour then put them back in and the same thing happened. Has anyone had this happen before and is there anything I can do for it. Again after I turn my phone on it "shuts off" the led light blinks like I have a message but I ca not do anything the only way to get it out of this is to remove the battery and put it back in but it reverts back to this in a few minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.
    Download Desktop Manager from here:

  • MacPro3,1 (2008) gets a blinking white light but sometimes does start up, what's going on?

    Hello,
I've got a MacPro3,1 (2008 model) that up until 3 days ago was working fine.
I haven't moved the Mac from its physical location, haven't installed any new hardware or even connected any new devices to it but upon restarting I now get a blinking white LED light and no video.
So I looked around the forums and most results pointed towards bad ram, since I've got 16GB of ram 8 dimms 2GB each it took a while to reseat them all properly but even after reseating them I still get the same issue. A calmly blinking white LED light of the power button (1sec interval).
The odd thing is that none of the riser cards show any of the usual red lights that would turn on if the ram was faulty/not set properly, and then once I force the computer to turn off holding the power button and turn it on again, sometimes the Mac will start up again (not all the time, it may take 3-5 tries).
Does anyone have a clue on why this would always happen when restarting/starting the Mac but that it would then take a force shutdown and a few tries and then starts up again?
Also, during the startup (when it does startup) the Mac won't accept any keyboard input (to try bring up the hardware test or go into the boot manager or even resetting the PRAM by holding ALT+SHIFT+R+P is not possible).

The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
    Tone(s)
    Description
    1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat
    No RAM installed
    3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones
RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button
Firmware upgrade in process. SeeAbout firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones
Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.
The iMac from this article tends to sound tones, The Mac Pro just flashes the light. The information conveyed is the same.

  • LED lights behave strangely.....is this normal?

I just got a new laptop yesterday (G580, Pentium B960, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HD) and I've been noticing the following strange pattern in the LED lights (status indicators).
    1. When my laptop is off and I connect it to power, the power LED and the battery LED turn on, and they both keep blinking continuously in intervals of about 5 seconds. Is this normal?
    2. The power LED appears quite small when my laptop is off, but turns as big as the other LEDs when I push the power button to turn on my laptop.
    3. As soon as I turn on the laptop, the power LED grows as big as the other LEDs and stops blinking. Only the battery LED keeps blinking every 5 seconds.
    4. This blinking of the battery LED stops when my laptop is running on battery. So both the LEDs stop blinking when my laptop is running on battery.
Is all this normal? Sorry if I sound naive, but I noticed no such things with my earlier Acer netbook so I'm a bit concerned...this is my second laptop. Because its new, I'm a bit sensitive about anything going wrong.
    Thanks for the help....

my bb curve 9380 shutdown and a red led lighting i don't now what hapned but i just modify some apps bay bb desktop softwere please help me and thx verry much

Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
If the problem is revealed via the above tests to be your BB, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

  • DV6500 - Fail to power on - LEDs light up for 1s then turns off

    System Specs:
    AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 2GB DDR2 160GB SATA 15.4" LCD
All of a sudden this PC shut off and would not boot up.
Now, when you hit the power button, the LEDs at the top of the keyboard as well as above the touchpad light up for maybe 1 second then instantly shut off. In addition, the CPU fan begins to spin then shuts off when the system powers off.
I've tried with/without battery and while/while not plugged into the AC power adapter. I've tried other working batteries with other working power adapters.
I've tried other, working memory modules. I've reseated the CPU as well as the CPU fan cable. I've completely dissassembled and reassembled the machine hoping there was a loose connection somewhere to no avail.
I'm at the crossroad of deciding to order a replacement CPU or a replacement motherboard (449903-001) in attempt to resolve this problem.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to what this may be? I'm thinking CPU as if it was the system board, I should technically get 5 blinking LEDs per http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSe...
Then again per the same document, if it was a CPU issue I'd see a single blinking light. Which is not what I'm seeing. I show only the LEDs/CPU fan turn on for <1s then shut down.  When I hit the power button again, same thing.
This seems like a somawhat common problem yet no one has posted their 'solution' to this issue.
    What do you guys suggest?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

    Hi @amilaamdj
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I see that you are having some problems getting your notebook to boot up properly and when you do you get that “System Temperature” error message. When you on the computer for several hours do you notice if it gets hot at all?
First try using the System File Checker tool to scan your operating system for corruptions. Then try testing the hardware to see if it a piece of hardware causing the issue. You didn't mention your operating system so I have included two documents below.
