Blkid - Why doesn't it mention that it needs elevated privileges ?

I was wondering why blkid doesn't inform you that it needs root privileges for it to run ? If I don't give it root privileges it just outputs nothing. Is it the way it is coded and that exception isn't handled properly ?
For eg - if I run pacman as a normal user it throws an error asking you to elevate the privileges --: "error: you cannot perform this operation unless you are root."

blkid can be used as a regular user, it just does something else:

This isn't too uncommon, wireless scanning works the same way.
EDIT: crossposted with the above. But I do not get a cache generated during boot either. The output for me is empty until I run blkid as root. Wormzy, I gather you have some service that runs this at boot up.

You must be using a gmail POP account. This type of account does not keep devices in sync. Each device retrieves emails from the server independently of other devices. If you delete on one device, that has no effect on the others.

Why doesn't Firefox see that I have Flash loaded on my computer?

After a recent OS update, Clamshell mode quit working. I couldn't find any Apple documentation
that would help. So many people were stabbing around in the dark, until I finally found the following information
that is lacking from any Apple documentation that I've been able to find.
Here's what I found to be the most helpful:
Forcing a MacBook to use the External Monitor:
I tried about everything: Rebooting, switching off completely, removing and inserting the Thunderbolt->HDMI adapter etc.
The only thing that finally worked was the following:
1. Take it out of the dock and connect to Power and HDMI to the TV.
Shut down the Mac. Turn it on and close the lid. It will now boot up on the external screen.
Log onto the Mac, and put it in sleep mode (Option-Command-Eject).
Put it back into the dock and wake it up with the spacebar.
It should be OK now... until the next update...
Note: One indication that you’re going to have extreme trouble with this is when (occasionally and without reason) the Mirroring Options icon shows up on the top icon bar.
Other useful commands:
“Command + F1” puts PC in Two-Screen MIRROR mode.
If it’s REALLY being stubborn, do the following (Clamshell Must be open
to see the arrangement tab.):
In System Preferences > Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor (Yes, I know, it’s hard to grab ahold of it...) That will make your EXTERNAL monitor your main screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV, make sure it’s asleep (Option+Command+Eject buttons) or your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

Why doesn't Nokia mention Lumia 920s SAR values ?

I bought the new shiny Lumia 920 windows phone. After using it for over a day I noticed that the battery gets drained out too quickly. Also, I noticed that amount of static charge my body gets since I started working with Lumia 920 is quite more than before.
I am concerned about the SAR rating Lumia 920 has in India. What concerned me more was the fact that when I looked into Nokia's website, they didn't publish the SAR rating. I should have checked this before, but why is the SAR rating of Lumia phones not mentioned in Nokia's website ?

No offense but this just seems ridiculous... Why would you get more static in your body beacuse of a phones SAR value? It just seems very far fetched.

Why doesn't itunes see that my ipod is a video ipod?

I am getting really annoyed with this. I have always used a photo ipod 30GB, but I now have a video one. However when I try to add videos to the ipod itunes tells me that not all songs were added to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod.
Also, when I go to preferences the video area is greyed out.
What can I do?
I have reinstalled the software, and itunes itself. I have restored the ipod, updated it to 1.1.1, and I have looked through all the online tutorials, but I still can't do it.
My friends ipod also has the same problem on my PC.

Windows is probably confusing your iPod with a USB network device. In this case, definetely try assigning your iPod a different drive letter.
If "My Computer" recognizes your iPod, then try performing the steps below:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

Fios is in my building - so why doesn't Verizon know that?

Last month Verizon installed Fios in my 8 unit condo and currently has one of the unit owners outfitted with and paying for service. Upon install, the engineer told my fellow condo association trustee (the one with the service) that the building was now ready for all other units to schedule service.
So I called to schedule my install. I have had three discussions with Verizon customer service reps in the past week: Mark, Colleen, and Miss Belle (apparently no one has full names.) The issue is that the Verizon "systems" indicate that our address is blocked. This is clearly not true given that someone in the building is currently paying for service. On 11/30 I was told that a request was being submitted to an engineer who could verify and allow install. Today I followed up, and once again the system has no new information about this situation since last week.
The final word from customer service is that they have submitted the engineer request. They have no ability to follow up on this request. There is no way for me to follow up on it either. When I asked if I should call customer service back in a week, I was told no, it was out of their hands, and with the engineers. "I might see a service unit stop by my property at some point." Nor can they provide me with any timing on when said engineering department may get back to me.
I asked Miss Belle if I could speak to a manager, however there are none on staff at 5:30p on a Friday for the entire customer service department at Verizon. She took down my contact information - I'm sure someone will get right back to me.
Verizon, you have already outfitted our building. Myself and 6 other residents are trying to give you our business, which is already provided to my neighbor 20 feet down the hall. Because this is the only other way I can figure to submit this request after my so far customer service dead ends, if at all possible I would highly appreciate someone further looking into this issue. {edited for privacy}

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board. you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information.
To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. What's wrong with Apple. Doesn't it realize that PDFs need to be stored in iCloud?

Apple has to realize that it's world is still too small to be providing a cloud server for Apple only apps. I need access to my PDFs across all my Apple devices, or else iCloud is virtually useless. The iCloud image sharing is really great, but it's mostly recreational. My need to share some PDFs is essential to my business, and I want to store this stuff in iCloud.

Simply, Apple won't take any responsibility for a file stored in iCloud through a third-party app like GoodReader. So, even if they allow other apps to use iCloud for their users files, and in this way they encourage iCloud use, in fact they impose a severe limitation to the confidence of iCloud users, and in this way they are acting against their own interest, and of course against the interest of their users. As I suggest in that discussion, Apple forces their technicians to seem like any cheap technician in a small shop, just because of this absurd politics of not allowing them to help their iCloud users when these users used iCloud thru other apps. Perhaps my case is rare and Apple don't care about exceptions; but this is a matter of principles, I would say, and Apple breaks here any fair play and common sense politics that I know. Or, please, help me to understand the rationality of that (un)support politics. Thanks.

Why does App Manager think I need Admin privileges to install updates?

I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber, and when I open apps (such as Muse) I get a message to install upgrades (or not). If I ask to install, I'm asked for login and password info, which is then refused and I get an error message that I need Admin privileges. So the install fails.
I can log in to this site using my login and password, so that's not the problem. I can also open the application (without the upgrades) but these are listed as being time-sensitive: only available until, for example, June 14. But there's no way for me to install these new releases. HELP!!!

It's down to where the updates are writing their files / registry keys. For example, installing/updating the Flash Player runtime has always required admin access as the file lives within the operating system folder tree (on Windows it's in system32/Macromed). Registry-wise, Adobe places keys in HKCU and HKLM - the latter is read-only for normal users.
If you're managing a network with enterprise-licensed software, there are tools for Creative Cloud that permit an IT manager to build offline deployment packs for the base installers and updates. If your users have retail copies of CC, that isn't an option and everything has to be managed on a per-machine basis.

The "Search" function box doesn't find things that are there! Why? Eg: It doesnt show all my Sent and Received emails, but it will find an email that I half wrote and deleted. Unsure why or how to explain more fully.
I also don't understand if I type in "James email" or "J" into the search box and all the J / James stuff appears but it doesn't show the emails I know have been sent and I know are somewhere because I rang "James" up to check, but the search box shows random thing I am NOT looking for, even if I type in fully what I am looking for and test it by typing in full titles of things.
It also doesn't store all my sent emails in "Sent" box. Confused! I'm not sure if the "Search" box just isn't up to the job or if it is broken / i'm doing something wrong? Maybe the email address I use isn't set up properly?

This can happen sometimes if the cache is not cleared correctly when items are not deleted from your device.
The only solution to this is to do a restore to clean out the cache file.

Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.
