Bloatware and Censorship Evil

I understand the counter argument of rooting your phone, but it’s actually illegal under the DMCA (See MetroPCS vs Virgin Mobile) and it completely misses the censorship issue.
If I want to watch porno, uninstall yahoo finance bloatware or engage in some politically sensitive subject I should be able to do that. It’s our hardware and we paid for it. Restricting our ability to make our own decisions is an poor move.
Hopefully the FCC steps in as consumer advocates and forces LTE carriers to remove these restrictions.. I hear they’re trying but it’s always an uphill battle against some people with evil ideas.. (enters no more unlimited data.)

A 1) Read your User Guide, do a search on Google, read the info on these utilities on the Toshiba site. I've never had a problem finding what each utility was for/did when I really looked for it.
A 2) I wouldn't uninstall anything. At sometime or another almost all the utilities are needed/useful. Instead use MSConfig.exe and remove the check marks in the 'Startup' tab from the utilities loading there that you do not use. Use services.msc to stop and/or disable the Toshiba services you do not use. Both these methods make it easy to re-enable or restart these utilities, should you find it necessary.

A 4) Not that I know of. What is necessary or unnecessary here is actually a very subjective thing. It depends on the user.

  • Silent installation of Shockwave WITHOUT GOOGLE BLOATWARE and WITH ActiveX

I believe a lot of corporate admins are looking for the answer to this question from Adobe...
    Q. How do we silently install Shockwave player on our coporate machines WITHOUT installing the GOOGLE BLOATWARE and at the same time ensure that the ActiveX is embedded with the browsers?
At this moment in time we are downloading and installing Shockwave centrally using the SLIM installers because the Full installers install the Google Toolbar bloatware. This is a dark road and Adobe going down this route is in my eyes no different from e-mail SPAM (We don't want it!).
However the issue with this installation is that the users still get prompted to install Shockwave and the associated Google Toolbar bloatware when they vist Shockwave enabled websites, even though Shockwave is successfully listed in Add/Remove/Programs. I believe this is because it's trying to install the ActiveX? This is no good if the users isn't an admin. Perhaps this is because we are using the Slim version?
Anyhow, Adobe, the question still stands....
    Q. How do we silently install Shockwave player on our coporate machines WITHOUT installing the GOOGLE BLOATWARE and at the same time ensure that the ActiveX is embedded with the browsers?
    P.S. Here's our current command line installation:  sw_lic_slim_installer.exe /S _?=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11
    Thanks,

If you use the MSI installer, you don't get any bloatware.
All you need to do is fill out the licensing info on this site: http://www.adobe.com/products/players/shockwave-player-licensing-distribution.html
Then you can download the MSI installer and just install it with a command like like this: msiexec /i sw_lic_full_installer.msi /qn /log c:\support\logs\applogs\ShockWave_12.0.0.112.log
If you don't use something like SMS or SCCM you could do it through goup policy or whatever mechanism you're using now.
Also, IIRC, the exe downloaders you get from the license distribution page are different from the regular downloads, and also lack any bloatware.
    Hope that helps!

  • Shadow Warrior and The Evil Within $10 Gift Card Offers

    Hi,
I was just wondering if there is an end-date for the $10 Gift Card offers with the pre-order of Shadow Warrior and Evil Within.
I want to pre-order both of them before release date and get the $10 GCs, but I don't have the funds at the moment.  Am I able to wait until just a few days before release and pre-order?  Or will these $10 GC offers expire at some point before the game releases?
    Thanks!
    Tyler

    Hello Tyler,
That’s a great question! Receiving a $10 Best Buy gift card for pre-ordering either Shadow Warrior or The Evil Within this week is certainly a stellar offer. It makes perfect sense you’d want to take advantage of these promotions while they’re still live, so I’m more than happy to assist in providing the timeframe in which you’ll be able to do so.
Since these promotions are part of our Weekly Ad for September 21-September 27, I’d say that you likely have until Saturday, September 27th to get your pre-order in for either game and take advantage of the $10 gift card promotion. I certainly hope you’re able to get your pre-order(s) placed in time!
Thanks for posting and please let us know if you have any further questions.
    Cheers,

  • Bloatware and other junk - what's what and how do I get rid of it.

I have a new Toshiba Satellite L650 series. For the most part I am very pleased with it. I am aware that there is "bloatware, Junk" software preloaded. However, I do not know how to tell what is junk and what I might actually need. Names and even the brief descriptions of the stuff has not proved helpful. Sooooo, the limited info I have found about getting rid of it seems to assume I know what I want to get rid of and what I want to keep.
Q 1) Is there anywhere that will give me a more detailed explanation of what each of these items are or do?
Q 2) Any lists of what I absolutely need to keep and not uninstall or I will have a big problem somewhere?
Q 3) If there are no specifics how about some general guidelines?
Q 4) Is there any downloads out there that are safe (free would be nice too) that just removes the unnecessary crap?
Q 5) Why oh why to otherwise honorable computer companies like Toshiba plauge us with this stuff? At least give us an easy button to get rid of it. I understand having to put up with advertisements when you get something free but not when you fork out money.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • CS4 and the EVIL Akamai Download Manager

Hi, I purchased CS4 and am now unable to download the product!
    Can anybody help me? .....pleeeeeeeez
I was able to download all the downloads except the 3.7GB main download.
I have tried in Firefox 3, IE 6, IE 7, Opera.
I have tried on 2 different computers.
I have downloaded the latest Active X components and latest Java platforms for both IE and Firefox.
I have enabled cookies, javascript, popus, ads.
I have disabled all firefox plugins, firewalls and antivirus.
I have checked with my ISP that I can in fact download such big files.
I have successfully managed to download CS3 in the past.
I have plenty of disk space and RAM.
The error message I receive in Firefox reads as follows:
    Download Manager Fatal Error
Could not find the requested file on the server.
Contact the author of the page that contains the link. This download will be canceled.
I have wasted so many hours this trying to get this to work. Also spent a long time on the online chat to support with no success. Trying to contact Adobe over the phone is impossible - whether I try in the morning or evening - the response is "office hours are 9am - 5pm" ...whenever that is!? Clearly its not referring to GMT or the USA time zone. Technical support via the website - well, will see if they ever respond to the case I opened there.
Right now I'm really really hating this Akamai download manager. Anybody know how to get a NORMAL link to download so I can use my normal download manager?

dont worry any more with cs5  its realy easy and realy high speeeeeeeed downloading and you can use your own download manager
    just visit

  • Bloatware and suspicious scripts on ix2

Hi.  I've got a new IX2 that I am trying to upgrade, per instructions, to th 4.1.104 firmware.  In order for the installation to run, Lenovo apparently requires more than 20 separate sites to be able to run scripts in the local browser.  Some of them open windows offering to sell products, some of which are carefully disguised to look like necessary parts of the installation.  Of course, if enabled, almost any of these sites could go hunting for sensitive information on the local machine and/or compromise the storage server.   If one reads Lenovo's terms of service, it appears that they can enable any of this as a condition for using the web site or device and then take no responsibility for anything any of those other sites do.
The same issues affect the management console/web interface.  Note, as one trivial example, that setting up email notifications asks for email login credentials.  If supplied, anyone who has them can use one's mail server and name to send spam or malware (even without further access to the storage device) and, if the credentials for receiving mail are the same as  for sending it, have full access to one's mailbox.
FWIW, use of these forums isn't much better: 28 different sites are allowed to run scripts and some of them are well-known agressive "the customer is the product" marketing firms with no imaginable (at least by me) reason for having access to machines using the forum systems.
Is there any way to get around this so that a firmware upgrade can be done safely and so that the management interface to the device (which shouldn't require access to anything off the local LAN) can be used with confidence?
Or is the price of using the storage servers complete exposure of one's data and systems to anyone who passes Lenovo a few dollars (or Yuan)?

    Hello jk6423
What you are descibing is absolutely not normal behavior for LifeLine based devices.
When we have come across this in the past, it has been caused by malware on the connected computer, however the unit is operating normally.
I recommend using a mal-ware checking utility such as Malwarebytes (my personal go to) and unistall any redundant anti-virus, malware, or pc fixer, etc. applications from your computer.
For updating the unit's firmware please be sure to follow this guide, any step outside of this guide's procedure may be malware running in your browser.

  • Things and Software to avoid when authoring for DVD-V

This one is always in the earlier, 1.X FAQ, but is so important it should be repeated here too.
There have been so many posts along the line of "I cannot burn my DVD in Encore, but Nero works well" that I thought I should share this info with you all.
As we know, DVD Authoring is very dependant on timing, and on not having other apps getting in the way & locking up the burners, So here is a list of software that is known to interfere with GEAR drivers. It is a raging cert that this also applies here, as all authoring apps are the same sort of thing.
These 3rd party apps are junk software, to be quite blunt (I expect to get flamed over this, but I cannot help the truth), and should never be installed on an Authoring system.
Anyway, here is the current list of
    i known problem software.
    1. B's Clip: This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
    2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
    3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
    4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it.
    5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/
    6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all DVD Authoring software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall your software to restore functionality after removing one of these. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
    7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. Your DVD Authoring software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using your software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
    8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. Your DVD software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using your software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
    9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of various installers, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install your software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using your software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use your software. Uninstallation is not required.
    10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing , and have it disabled any time you go to use your DVD Authoring software. Uninstallation is not required.
    11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use DVD Authoring software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
    12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio ( http://www.roxio.com ) or Nero 6.x ( http://www.nero.com ). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well with DVD Authoring software.
    13. Spyware and Adware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at http://www.lavasoftusa.com
    14. Disable the Windows XP packet writing utility. To do so, go to My Computer, Right click oon your DVD burner, choose Properties. Find the "Recording" tab. Uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive" While you are there, switch off all AutoRun options too. It means going through each option and then selecting "Take No Action" as the default option. AutoRun will "poll" the drive every few minutes to look for a new disc, and if it finds one it will try to open it.
    15. Symantec PCAnywhere has been reported to cause problems with Encore as the awvid5.dll file it installs is a video driver designed to facilitate the transfer of screen information from one computer to another. Sadly, this causes a conflict which can cause XP to restart - or give a bluescreen if the "Automatically restart" option has been unticked, giving a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA stop condition.
Another crash can be reproduced by
    a) Open a project
    b) Add an MPEG file and associated WAV file as assets
    c) Link the MPEG file to a menu button by dragging
    d) Encore creates a Timeline for the MPEG file automatically
    e) Open the new Timeline
    f) Drag the MPEG's WAV file into the timeline's audio track
    g) Close the Timeline
    h) Repeat (b)-(d)
    i) When the new Timeline is double-clicked, XP restarts
    The
    i only
solution found so far is to uninstall PCAnywhere, then all returns to normal.
    16. It has also been found that either Efax or Winfax software installed to the system can cause the dreaded "Visual C++ Runtime Error" which will crash Encore. Microsoft support have confirmed that if you see this error, you need a hotfix KB884538, from www.microsoft.com in the support area.
Install the hotfix, and if the error remains, check for either of these fax programs. If either are present, remove them, reboot and all should now work.
    17. Roxio Easy CD Creator - General issues.
Firstly, when uninstalling any Roxio application it is best to do this from the "Add Remove Programs" applet in Control Panel, as usual. However - this will NOT remove all Roxio's tentacles from your system. To be sure all is definitely removed, you need to visit
    http://www.microadvantage.net/downloads/zapper60.zip
and run this. When you are done, you can then reboot and the evil Roxio will finally be gone.
Another common issue with Roxio is when Nero also co-exists on the same system. The two
    i loathe
each other and are apparently incapable of co-existing.
If you have noth these installed there is an additional set of stuff to go through. Remove Roxio first, then reboot, then remove Nero completely beginning by uninstalling from "Add Remove Programs" and then we also need to get rid of all the various tendrils it has also addeed to the system using the following tools:
(You must use all 3 of Nero's Clean tools in order to do the job correctly.)
They can all be found here:
    http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.htm
    1. General Clean tool
    2. Registry cleaner and driver cleaner
    3. InCD Clean tool
When you reinstall Nero 6.6 OR Neros new 7 Ultra Edition, DO NOT install InCD OR if you do, turn it off in startup under msconfig (better to not install it)
    18 - FindSounds Palette
This is a tool designed to help you find SFX on your drives, and it seems to prevent Encore from importing M2V files for some reason, and should be uninstalled if present.
To uninstall this, do the following steps:
Uninstall "Find Sounds Palette" (FS Palette).
Delete the two registry key folders for "Comparisonics".
    Uninstall Encore CS3.
    Delete Registry Keys for Encore.
    Restart.
    Install Encore CS3.
    Install Encore 3.0.1 update.
    Restart.
    19 - Quicken
It has been reported that if you back up your Quicken files to CD, then Quicken sets up your DVD burner for CD DLA through the built-in Windows burning facility.  This assignment recurs each time your system is restarted.  When this happens, Encore will see your burner as a CD burner only.  You'll have to manually disable this start-up assignment to get Encore to see your burner as a DVD burner again.
Additionally, it is a good idea to disable Autorun for your burner, preferably from the registry. While this will not prevent anything polling the drive from the OS to try & "helpfully" check for freshly inserted media, it will prevent sneaky DRM applications from installing themselves to your system just by having the disc inserted. As well as the registry hack required, there are other methods of stopping this described at
    http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article03-018
To do the registry hack, perform the following:
    * Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
    * Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom.
    * Double-click the Autorun value, and type 0 for its value. (If it's not there, create it by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing "Autorun" for its name.)
    * You may have to log out and then log back in for this change to take effect.
    * Note: With this solution, Windows will no longer be notified when you insert a new CD. To make sure the correct icon and title for the current CD are displayed in My Computer and Explorer, press F5 to refresh the window.
If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall your software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.

    You're lucky then Steve.
Roxio is one of those apps that usually doesn't play nice with any other burning software at all.
I use GEAR Pro Mastering Edition.
They also do a cheaper version called GEAR Video - but be aware that this installs DivX as well - although I have to say that on one of our systems running Adobe 1.5 versions of Encore & Premiere Pro, it is causing no conflicts at all. But there have definitely been major problems with DivX codecs and EncoreDVD. Perhaps it is to do with where they come from, perhaps I just got lucky in this case.
It might be worth a trial version though - although if you have the budget, and do a LOT of DVD, then GEAR Pro Mastering Edition is an invaluable tool I have found.

  • How do I set numbered lists for headings in Pages 5.2, and keep that system of numbered lists saved?

I have tried to set numbered lists for headings in Pages 5.2 but have not succeeded. I have read similar questions concerning this but this has not helped me...
When I say numbered lists I mean something extremely important and simple, for instance:
    1. Introduction
    1.1. Background
    1.2. Purpose and Questions
    2. The Legality of Clause X
    2.1. Legality under Article 101.1
    2.2. Legality under Article 101.3
    And so on...
Heading 1. is selected as "Heading", 1.1 is selected as "Heading 2", and if I had 1.1.1 it would be selected as "Heading 3" and so on...
I have navigated my way to the Format window, and under the tab "Style" and down to "Bullets & Lists". I have here selected the following: Numbered, Numbers, 1. 2. 3. 4., Tiered Numbers, Continue from previous.
There are several problems with this currently.
First, based on the example it becomes "2. Background" when it should be "1.1 Background" instead.
Second, after writing some body text between the headings and then select a new heading, all the previously selected settings I mentioned above in "Bullets & Lists" have to be reselected.
So, how do I set numbered lists for headings, or so called sub-headings, in Pages 5.2? And how do I keep that selected system of numbered lists saved so I don't have to retype it for every new heading I type? (e.g. so that Pages knows that every time I choose Heading 2, I want it to number the heading in the way selected)
Obviously, manually writing the numbers for every heading is not a viable option, as it makes table of contents problematic and is simply tedious. You need an automatic way of doing it, especially if you write long documents where keeping headings in order is absolutely essential.
Also, reverting back to previous Pages versions (like v. 9 I think?) is not an option as that does not exist on my recently purchased Macbook Pro.
I need to be able to do this on Pages 5.2 and do it automatically.
I appreciate any help with this.

iWork '09 is not "outdated" it still works and works extremely well and whilst not perfect with MsWord it is far far better than Pages 5.2 which has a stream of major issues with exporting. It is also way better and faster to use than Microsoft Office.
So what is your time and work actually worth? If it is less than $19.99 for 6 months, you may as well just chuck it in and take that job on minimum wages.
You are assuming things for Office 2014 with absolutely no inside knowledge. Much as we assumed Pages 5 was going to be the long awaited improvement, but ended up being a downgrade to match the iOS version, Microsoft is headed the same way with their mobile versions.
This is not like getting the "latest" pair of pants where you go with the crowd and throw out your cigarette legs which replaced the flares, which replaced your low cuts which replaced your cigarette legs, which replaced…
    This is work.
If it does the job and does it well, use it. There is nothing out there to really match what Pages '09 does. Yet.
LibreOffice can do most but not all, but has a UI that only a mother could love. It's great redemption is that it uses both open formats and the standard Microsoft formats and is under active development. It also opens and saves to just about everything. When they finally work out the Pages formats, I'm sure they will open those as well.
I use a lot of professional software. Just because the publisher's marketing department says change the product so we can sell more, doesn't mean you have to pay any attention whatsoever. Adobe being a classical example. Most designers are just ignoring their latest subscription based bloatware and getting on with their work.

  • Java Printing and Dot Matrix printer

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I didn't see any forum about printing.
I have gotten printing working for my application to both "real" printers and dot-matrix printers. The problem is that I want to display a print dialog box, and have my application detect whether the user selected a "real" printer or a dot-matix printer.
I've dumped out the supported DocFlavors for both kinds of printers and haven't been able to find any reliable way to determine the printer type. Has anyone found a reliable way to do this?
I need to detect the printer type becuase I use one DocFlavor to print to a dot-matrix and a different DocFlavor to print to a "real" printer.
    Thanks for any help,

    Thanks for the replies,
I would like to find some way to auto-detect this, if it is possible. I swear that I will only use the PrinterResolution class for good and not evil!! I was looking at the supported printer resolutions for the printers that are in my office here, and this is what I found:
Supported Resolutions Win32 Printer : FX-890  (my dot matrix)
    24000x14400 dphi
    12000x7200 dphi
    12000x14400 dphi
Supported Resolutions Win32 Printer : HP LaserJet 4050 Series PS
    30000x30000 dphi
    60000x60000 dphi
    120000x120000 dphi
Supported Resolutions Win32 Printer : HP Color LaserJet 4550 PCL 5c
60000x60000 dphiIt seems interesting that the laser jets only report resolutions that are the same horizontal as vertical, and that the dot matrix supports resolutions that are have different horz vs vert resolutions. Maybe I could use this to make a guess?
Unfortunately we don't use any native code in our application, although it could be a possibility if there is no 100% java way to auto-detect this. The vast majority of our users will be running Windows. Do you know of a way to figure this out in Windows?
    Thanks,

  • Spotify is hijacked by free youtube to mp3 convertor when it tries to update and re open

I have been having this problem for a few weeks now. The only solution is to uninstall spotify and re-install it. This would cure the problem for a few days but now it will not even cure it for a few minutes. If I reboot windows and open up Spotify the DVDsoftware takes over. I had this software on my computer once but deleted it and thought I had erased all traces of it.

Hello: Any idea what the full name of the third party DVD software was? Some of those programs are just bloatware and packed full of spyware, and malware, they often are designed to recopy themselves when the system is trying to remove and delete the program. There are a few programs that might help get you going and remove this stuff, but you have to be able to read through the help set up information, so you do not mess up your system. You can get malwarebytes that takes care of a good chunk of nasties like this. I use a third party cleaner tool to find left over traces of stuff in the system registry, and temp folders, and things that get scattered around the HD file system by software installs, the third party program is called Glary Utilities, some people use CCleaner as well and have better results. All I can say is good luck, things like this is a royal pain.

  • Satellite C850 - Where can I get and Win7 istallation .iso from?

    Hi guys,
I've searched around and found lots of threads, but haven't actually found a solution.
I bought C850 with Win7-64-home-premium preinstalled for my wife.
First I wanted to decline Microsoft EULA and claim money back for Win7 licence, but I thought its only 50 or 60 quid, and I might want it once a year so I left it as is.
First impression - its Terrible slow !!!
I have an old NB100, with Atom and 2GB RAM running Linux witch I use from time to time when I work on the move and this old tiny netbook is A LOT faster then my new C850 with i3 and 8GB of RAM. I mean A LOOOOOT faster.
Then I run Mint Live-CD and then I saw how fast C850 can be if only given real operating system instead of Microsofts crapware.
Then I installed WIn7-64-professional and there was a BIG difference. It wasn't nowhere near as fast as on Linux Mint, but it was whole lot better then original install.
That was only to check how it goes on clean install. I do not have licence for Win7-pro for C850 and I have not even a slightest intention of paying for something as useless as Win7. People should be paid for all the suffering caused by Win7.
On the other hand I would gladly pay for Linux Mint and in fact I have made a nice donation to the project not long time ago :)
Conclusion - slowdown was casued by Toshiba bloatware (which is completely not needed for proper operation of laptop!) and all the other stuff like McAfee or Nero.
I've tried to do reinstall but the reinstalled Win7 comes with all this bloatware and I need clean Win7 install.
To cut short answers like "install and delete waths not needed" - that doesn't solve the problem for two reasons:
    1) if install and delete, a lot of stuff stays on the system, registry entries, lots of files etc
    2) I need and .iso of Win7, so I can slipstream few things and get rid of WHOLE LOT of useless things
Where can I get and istallation .iso from ?
I mean clean Win7 without all that Toshiba bloatware, McAfee, Nero and other rubbish.
Mind you, I purchased a laptop with Win7 licence so I do have LEGAL RIGHT to use Win7 on its own.
    Any hint VERY MUCH appreciated.
    Thank you.

On this forum you can find a lot of similar threads where people write about the same experience. We can discuss about this theme for days but the conclusion is always the same: new notebooks are delivered with recovery image that contains OS, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities, additional software and some stuff that nobody needs.
Nobody force notebook owners to use recovery image like this. What you must do is OS optimizing. Remove all software you dont need, disable auto start for all not important stuff and check Windows settings. I do the same all the time and there is big difference how notebook runs, especially start-up time will be much shorter. On this forum you can find very interesting threads about that.
So my advice for you is to install recovery image again and optimize it. The performance will be OK and your wife will have nice piece of hardware for everyday work.
    > 1) if install and delete, a lot of stuff stays on the system, registry entries, lots of files etc
Everything can be removed but if you dont do this it is definitely not so critical for notebook performance.
    > 2) I need and .iso of Win7, so I can slipstream few things and get rid of WHOLE LOT of useless things
At first, you will not find iso file anywhere and slipstreaming will not work at all. You cannot unbundle recovery image and use parts that you need. It doesnt work on this way.
I just hope you have created recovery disc before you have started your testing phase.

  • What is starfieldinstall and why is it asking for my password?

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and also upgraded my iLife suite.
Now when I start up I get a dialog box saying that starfieldinstall needs my password.
Since I don't know what starfieldinstall is, I cancel the dialog box.
What is it and how do I get rid of it?

You were right to do so. Please see
    http://ithreats.net/
'The installer is distributed by Starfield a technology and research branch of Go Daddy Group. If you are Go Daddy user, when you logged-in, this tool is available in the tool section as:
    1) Desktop Notified Installer
    2) It is also offered as “Web-Based Email Tools plugin” promising that this tool will enable image paste.'
They go into some detail and conclude: 'this is a nasty and abusive application that performs remote activities and installation of unwanted plugins and application without user consent. It is a bloatware and a backdoor.'

  • Audition 2.0 and windows 7

is audition 2.0 fully supported with windows 7 pro?
    thx

Well, Audition 2 do not work here. I have tried on 2 different PC's with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. And it complains about missing DirectX (it is installed).
I'm forced to use the old CoolEdit Pro 1.2 in the radio studio, because Adobe can't make this "simple" application right the first time - we now have 3 unused licenses for Audition 2 !!!.
And then there's Audition 3 - no way! it's totally bloatware - and I'm not going to pay again for it, when Adobe don't fix known bugs for their (at that time) new Audition
@ Adobe developers: Software should not be depending on user-customizable settings in Windows - and DEFINENTLY NOT CHANGE WINDOWS SETTINGS to make animations when minimizing and maximizing the Audition-window
I'm gonna stop here, before I write something offending about Adobe Audition.....

  • Here are instructions to install clean Windows 8x image without Bloatware

It seems there are not really any instructions here on how to do this... I did a lot of searching and it seemed to be complicated until I found the post below from another forum.  I really like my new Toshiba Satelitte L55-B5267 but it seemed a little slow considering the specs.  Now that I have put Windows 8.1 on clean without the bloatware and things are working much better and faster.  I hope this helps you:
Some key things to remember are you have to download an OEM version of windows (in my case windows 8.1).  I had to get this from a torrent site as I couldn't find it anywhere else.  I did use a hash checker to make sure it was a good iso.  Windows 8.1 will automatically put the key in the installation and activate the OS which was great but I don't think it does it with Windows 8 or 7 but the instructions below should help you. Also, I discovered that windows found most of my drivers.  I had trouble the first time getting them installed and started over.  I found that there was an older Chipset that I needed to install first.  When I noticed the older version was larger I installed it first and then installed the latest Chipset on top of that and I was able to install all other missing drivers with no problem and also upgrade the rest.  Other than that I followed this post:
    http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/38486-need-help-formatted-genuine-windows-8-lenovo.htm...

    Satellite L55-B5267 (PSKT4U-08400G)
    Downloads here.
Thank you for the instructions. Just a few additional tips/comments.
The product key is embedded in the UEFI for OEM (preinstalled) Windows 8.x. The key is different for 8.0 and 8.1; so which version to install depends upon what was originally there. The product key must be entered for earlier Windows versions.
Best to use the drivers from the Toshiba site. Laptop makers sometimes tweak devices and drivers. The chipset driver from the Toshiba site should work just fine.
Always install the chipset and display drivers prior to other drivers. (It's common for the WiFi not to work when installed first.) Always install the Toshiba System Driver before other Toshiba utilities.

  • I got hacked and someone was using my mouse how can i be protected?

I resentrly got hacked. someone was using my mouse and was going to reload a website. i could not move my mouse but i could see my mouse moving. how can I be protected?

well a simpler and less "evil" possibility is a wireless mouse or some other signal interfering.  Are you using a blutooth or other wireless mouse?
If you don't have any sharing turned on, it would take a pretty advanced hacker to gain control of your mac.
If you don't have remote login turned on, or screen sharing, or file sharing, it would be very very hard to do.  But nothing's impossible.....
