The Access Restrictions feature of a Linksys router allows you to limit Internet access on your network.  You can deny certain computers’ Internet access or block certain applications and services. Here is the link for the same: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=20b29e54474a4a17aff594cb659747ea_4041.xml&pid=80&r...
And how do  you want to block access to https://www.facebook.com/ ?
It's an encrypted connection between the computer and facebook. The router cannot see the URL accessed. The router cannot know that you access a facebook URL.

How can I block Facebook from being used on my data plan?

One way is to uninstall the app.  Another is to "disable background data" from (Android) Menu-Settings-Mobile Data-scroll down to FaceBook and tap scroll down to Restrict background Data.  This will keep it from using data in the background, but NOT in the foreground.  Only way I know to keep it from using data is to keep the app off the device.

Can someone please tell me how to block facebook on Firefox? Windows 7

    Hi,
    I have succeeded on a WRT310N.
Go to the Access Restriction Screen
Enter a policy name under  the appropriate field
    Set staus to enabled (IMPORTANT)
Click the Edit List button  and enter the PC(s) you want restricted.  If using assign IP automatically and DHCP  set the IP range that covers the DHCP range.   If you want some PC's to have access and some no access,  make the PC's you want to have access as a fixed IP address.
    Set ACCESS RESTRICTION to allow
Set the schedule.  (You may need to create multiple policies if you want to allow it part of the time
Enter the URL you want restricted  in this case www.facebook.com  (up to 4 sites per policy)
    Click on save settings
Make sure that you are operating in the time frame you specified and test the blocking.
Since this policy will allow internet access only during the schedule specified,  if the schedule was not 24 hrs,  you may have to create another policy to cover the other time.
    Hope that helps

  • How to Block Facebook Website

    How to Block Facebook Website
All URL I put in Access Restriction (Internet Access Policy) have been blocked, except for www.facebook.com.
Is there a problem with my WRT160N?
    Please help.
    - Thanks

This model must use exact url blocking in which case blocking Facebook can't reliably be done.
If you had a dns server you could specify a bogus ip address for Facebook on your network.
I had to move to the AE series routers because the parental control is the best and blocking Facebook was easy with only "facebook.com" as the url.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
    * Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    * Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.

  • Firefox has blocked Facebook on my laptop, what do I do?

There was a recent update on my system when I shutdown yesterday. When I tried logging into Facebook today, an Unsecured Connection warning popped up. When I clicked on Add Exceptions, the Facebook website was totally blocked on my system.

This is the screen shot of the This Connection is Untrusted window. I clicked I Understand the Risk & clicked on Add Exceptions, then it just blocked Facebook.

  • How to fix changes in Terminal due to blocked Facebook in Vietnam

    Hello, all.
I recently went on a trip to Vietnam where access to Facebook is blocked by the government. I googled how to get around the blocks and came across this website:
    http://www.travelfish.org/blogs/vietnam/2011/05/18/accessing-facebook-in-vietnam -for-mac/
After applying the changes as directed I was still unable to access Facebook, presumably because the loophole had already been closed by the government.
Now that I am back in Thailand, where I live, I am still unable to access Facebook. I get a "Network Error" message along with this description:
"A communication error occured: 'connection reset by peer.' The web server may be down, busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests."
I figured that the easiest way to fix the problem would be to go into Terminal and simply delete the changes I have made. However, whenever I input "sudo nano/etc/hosts I get the following message:
    "sudo: nano/private/etc/hosts: command not found"
I would really appreciate if someone could help me fix this problem as I need to access Facebook to promote my business.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

The host file has been modified by someone (you?). Whatever application that was used to modify the file  left Window's line endings (CRLF). If you are not comfortable using a unix text editor then download TextWrangler.
The following is an unmodified host file.
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1       localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1             localhost
    fe80::1%lo0     localhost
You can attempt to replace the modified host file with the text above or re-install the operating system.

  • How to block facebook "Trendings"

Facebook seems to think it knows what I want to see, so every time I sign on they flood the screen with various articles that I really have no interest in. Is there an easy way to block this function. I notice that Google has a free download called F.B. Purity. Mozilla have anything like that?

    Guess not. Thanks!

  • How to block Facebook in SA520

    Hello,
i added to content filtering URL keyword "facebook" but if i try to go to Facebook website like this https://www.facebook.com
SA520 dont block that. What should i do?

    Hi Tero,
Currently SA500 supports content filtering only on port 80.  You can block the https access to facebook in firewall. Perform NSlookup for facebook and create a firewall rule blocking https access to the IP addresses listed by the NSlookup.

  • How to completely block Facebook

When I surf the Internet I always have a Facebook.net cache cookie in Safari. I already have installed Glimmerblocker, Facebookblocker, AdBlock, Ghostery, and Facebook Disconnect plugins all with strict filters but nothing helps. The option to block third-party cookies is enabled, of course. I don't see Like buttons on webpages anymore but the cookie comes again and again. How can I ban that terrible Facebook from my computer? It's like a plague.

Like many others, I have drunk the Koolaid, and am hooked.  Thus, the problems with Safari creates a sort of cognitive dissonance for me.  I have struggled with Safari's inability to do what it says under preferences and I am disheartened by Apple's nonresponse to the problem.  This sort of incompetence we came to expect from nearly all other software and hardware companies, and we suffered with it until the arrival of Apple.
The larger question is. Why hasn't Apple fixed this problem?  Perhaps this is not incompetence, but rather by design.  This conclusion is more than a little disheartening for me as a user, and just as importantly, as an investor.  It's hard to imagine a situation like this persisting under the guidance of Mr. Jobs, and maybe this is the first chink in the armor.  Perhaps it has been the wow factor that attracted so many of us to these excellent products, but it is the reliability factor that keeps us in the fold.
I have successfully solved the problem by switching to the Firefox web browser.  It appears to be completely capable of doing what it says - blocking all cookies, but it goes much farther in permitting a user to select exactly which cookies to block or allow.  This is a sophisticated system that with its ease of use, suggests Firefox has borrowed a page from Apple's success.
I know of no biggerr threat to Apple's ongoing success than its failure to fix problems such as this one, for after the wow factor has faded and been stolen and copied by every other Tom, Dick and Harry manufacturer  out there, it is the dependability and reliability that keeps us in the fold.
    This is indeed a disappointment.

  • Blocking Facebook ads with Privoxy

The text + photo ads on the side of Facebook annoy the hell out of me. They were blocked with AdBlock Plus in Firefox but since moving to Uzbl + Privoxy, they're back. I've found the following CSS which supposedly blocks the ads:
    #ssponsor, .footer_ad, .banner_ad, .social_ad, .ad_capsule, .sidebar_ads, .adcolumn, .admarket_ad, .sidebar_item.sponsor,
    .emu_sponsor, .home_sponsor, .UIHomeBox_Sponsored { display: none !important; }
However, inspecting the page code, it looks like the ads are now contained in a div with the title "ego-unit",
I'm sure there's a way to use this in the user.filter file but I don't speak Perl or CSS. I haven't found any Privoxy rules online which successfully block these ads.
In the default.filter file, they give the following example for blocking Google Ads by CSS:
    s@</head>@<style type="text/css">\n\
/* Style sheet inserted by Privoxy's google filter. */\n\
    \#fbc, \#fbl, \#ra, .rhh {visibility: hidden !important;}\n\
    \#tpa1,\#tpa2,\#tpa3,\#tpa4,\#tpa5,\#tpa5, \#spl, .ch, \#ads,\
    \#toolbar, \#google_ads_frame, \#mbEnd {display: none !important;}\n\
    .main_body, .j, \#res, .med, .hd, .g, .s\n\
    {width: 99%; max-width: 100%; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0;}\n\
    </style>\n$0@
    s@<div style=\"padding-top:11px;min-width:500px\">@<div id="main_body">@
    s@(<table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width=25% align=right bgcolor=\#ffffff border=0\
    |</font></td></tr></tbody></table><table align=\"right\" bgcolor=\"\#ffffff\"\
    |<table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=right bgcolor=\#ffffff border=0\
    |<table style=\"clear:both\" align=right width=25% cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\"\
    border=\"0\" bgcolor=\"\#ffffff\")@$0 id="ads"@
    s@(<br clear=all><table)( border=0 cellpadding=9><tr><td)@$1 id="toolbar"$2@
However, reading this melts my brain. Has anyone else had success in blocking such ads? Care to share any tips or resources on how I can do it?
    Thanks!

  • Default Parental Controls blocks FaceBook

I just updated my family G4 iMac to Leopard.
On the kids' accounts, under Parental Controls -> Content, I chose the "Try to limit access to adult websites automatically"
My older son logged in and hollered that he could not get to his FaceBook page.
    How interesting.
    Way to go, Apple.

    HI,
"Try to limit access to adult websites automatically"
In Parental Controls click the Customize button. You can setup certain sites for "allow" or "deny" ...

Select a face book gallery in the source pane on the left and go tot he settings and remove access info
I believe that you may need to change a setting in your account on facebook too -- check out all of the options for your account there
