Block iMessage on network Wi-Fi

I am trying to block iMessage on a school Wi-Fi network as requested but I cannot seem to find the Host Names, IP addresses or Port Numbers for iMessage to disable the traffic.  Can anyone help me with the information?

Try finding your connection in Keychain Access tool and deleting it...
After next entry it should be saved fine...

  • Block iMessage on student's own BYOD iPads?

    Hi,
As well as supply iPads for students to use, students can bring their own iPads to school and connect to our Wifi. My question is, how can we block iMessage for students only without having to supervise their devices in Configurator? If we block the suggested ports in our filtering server, it also blocks other Apple functionality and we don't want to block it for staff.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    SMM.

Sorry, but other than blocking the ports in the router, there's no way to block iMessages on devices you don't manage. You could block port 5223 which might disable Messages without too collateral damage. Below are listed some other services Apple has on 5223:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629
    XMPP over SSL
    Apple Push Notification Service
    APNs
    FaceTime
    Game Center
If you need any of those services to run, then you won't be able to block iMessages. Even if you block it through your WiFi network, that won't stop students with iPhones or iPads with cell service from using it, so if this is a classroom issue rather than one of tying up your WiFi network (in which case Messages really doesn't take up much bandwidth), there's probably little point in blocking Messages on your network even if you can do so.
The ony other option is to require that any student who wishes to use an iOS device in your school allow it to be managed, and that's a policy I think your school would find difficult to implement.
    Regards.

  • Blocking imessaging

Apple, Please allow blocking of imessaging! I understand it's free, but sometimes we just don't want to receive communicaiton from some people.  Have your customers top of mind with this. We should be able to make these type of decisions with our phones.  How dificult is to to add a block imessaging option under contacts.  As a first time user with the iPhone, this is one component that lures me back to the Android.

  • Blocking iMessage and FaceTime from macbook pro

    i just installed yosemite.
    1) is there a way to COMPLETELY BLOCK iMessages from my iPhone from ever showing up on my macbook pro?
i noticed that when i go into iMessage preferences on my macbook pro that in settings i was able to turn off my cell phone number (?and email account) so that messages would never pop up on my iMac. but i also noticed that under accounts, "blocked" it LISTS the names and phone numbers of people i have blocked! is there some way to make sure this NEVER shows up on my macbook pro?
when i "deleted" some of the blocked names in accounts of iMessage on my macbook pro, and then looked on my phone, i noticed they were no longer blocked. so i blocked a particular individual again via my phone, and it showed up in my iMessage as blocked on my macbook pro.
is there a way to just remove or completely hide iMessage on my macbook pro? can i also remove it from the ?toolbar at the bottom of the computer?
    2) same thing with FaceTime. i never use it on my iPhone (have it turned off on my iPhone), and have it turned off on my macbook via preferences. but is there also a way to remove it or hide it on my macbook pro, so that it never shows up? also remove it from ?toolbar at bottom of macbook?
(interestingly, as i typed this, i noticed the iMessage icon disappeared from my ?toolbar at the bottom of the macbook pro. was that because i hit the "hide iMessage" under preferences on my macbook?)
    thank you for your help,
    a-

Sign out of Messages by going to System Preferences/Internet Accounts and deselect the enable this account box. To get it out of the Dock, control - click and hold, then Options/Remove from Dock. Dock procedure is the same for FaceTime.
For FaceTime, open the application then FaceTime/Preferences, and deselect enable this account.

  • Blocking iMessage

    Hi.
If I have someone blocked on my hotmail, do I revived their messages on iMessage?
    Please let me know.
    Thank you.

You cannot block imessages.  The best you can do is turn off imessage if you do not wan tto receive them from someone.  That may change with ios7

  • Blocking a particular network

Every day when I come into work and open my MBP, it asks me if I want to connect to the network downstairs, so I have to say no. Is there any way to block a particular network, so my computer knows never to suggest connecting to it? I don't want to turn off Airport.

You can set up AirPort to connect only to Preferred Networks. If you are in 10.5, when you go into your Network preference click the Advanced button and the options will be there under AirPort. On the main Network screen, you can uncheck "Ask to join new networks."
If you want it to behave differently at work and at home or other places, set up a new network Location and give it different settings. That's what I do, I have Home and Work locations.

  • Firewall blocks Apple's Network Time Protocol

    Hi,
I admit to not fully understanding everything about the Firewall on OS X server 10.4.11 and I'm hoping someone can help with a little(?) problem.
On the WAN side, my "gateway" server is connected directly to my SpeedTouch 780 modem with a fixed IP address. On the LAN side are a couple of switches and then an Airport Extreme base station (192.168.2.249). This broadcasts wirelessly to a more distant Airport Express (192.168.2.247). Both WiFi devices are configured to obtain the time from Apple's European servers.
After completing a Carbon Copy Cloner of my OS partition and rebooting on my usual volume I noticed the following denials in my Firewall log:
    Dec 28 12:50:16 nl1 ipfw: 65534 Deny UDP 17.72.255.12:123 192.168.2.249:3987 in via en0

In SA --> Firewall --> Settings --> Services --> Edit Services for: 192.168.1-net (en0/modem connection)
I have the "Allow only traffic for: 192.168.1-net on these ports" checked and
NTP - Network Time Protocol UDP/TCP is also checked.

I have the "Allow only traffic for: any" checked and
NTP - Network Time Protocol UDP/TCP is also checked.
Under, Edit Services for: 192.168.2-net (en1/LAN)
I have the "Allow all traffic for: 192.168.2-net" checked.
    1) Why is this traffic being blocked?
    2) Why does the port number seem to get changed in transit? (I've got NAT running and Open Directory).
    3) Does the configuration under, "Allow only traffic for: any" overrule all other Firewall settings? So if for example a port under, "Allow only traffic for: 192.168.1-net on these ports" wasn't checked but was under, "Allow only traffic for: any", would the traffic be allowed through?
    Thanks and happy new year!
    Michael Franks

Do you have NTP activated? Does it work? If it doesn't and you have the firewall activated, then open the required port. If it is working then don't worry about it.

  • How to block WBS or Network element field in Service Entry Sheet ML81n

    Hi Guru
Would like to seek your advise on the following query.
We use Service master to trigger Purchase Order Service related (Item category = D; AAC = P).
Then, user will use T\code ML81n to create service entry sheet by reference to Purchase Order and service master document. During Service entry sheet creation, usually WBS element or Network element field will be populated automatically based on the information from Purchase Order.
However, user could overwrite the WBS element or Network element in service entry sheet. Thus, it creates discrepency WBS\Network element between PO and Entry Sheet.
    1. Is there any way we could retrieve Service entry sheet not to allow user to update the WBS\network element field?
    2. What will be the impact if we block the field from user.
    Please advise

    Hi Rag
    Thanks for your reply.
When I trace the service master, there is no specify field to input WBS element.
Also, I have checked the service master entered by user, it seems that only the following fields are filled:-
    Service Category
    BuoM
    Mat\Service Group
    Valuation class
The rest of field are remained as blank as it might due to multiple WBS element shared 1 same service master
Please advise how I should block the WBS element from service entry to prevent overwriting.
    Thanks

  • Snow Leopard Server dhcp assigns IP to clients, but sometimes that IP is blocked from reaching network

I have a problem that is driving me batty.
I have a Mac Mini Server acting as a gateway to the Internet. The cable modem is connected to the built in Ethernet, and the local net is configured with a USB Ethernet. I am running  DHCP on the local network, and all of the clients get IP's from the server with no problem. Sometimes an random IP appears to get blocked from accessing the network (can get the file servers on the local net, and cannot reach the Internet.) We can manually assign a different IP, and it might start working, but it might not. We just keep picking until we find one that works. Rebooting the server will fix the problem as well.
I see no indication of a problem in any of the logs on the server.
This setup has worked with no problem in the past, but I must have done something to the configuration as some point.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Mark.

The proper way to set up your system is to set up the server's DNS as your primary DNS, entering into it all of your local devices and support, and use your ISP's DNS as forwarding DNS's. For help in doing this follow Mr. Hoffman's instructions.
Use your ISP's modem in bridge mode to provide you with a static IP. Use the server's DHCP system to provide all internal addresses, otherwise you won't have dynamically updated DNS information at the server level.
User your airport extreme as an AP. Set it up to use an internal static address as it's WAN address and shut down it's DHCP server allowing anything connected to it to receive it's IP address from the server. If you can't do that, then set up the Airport to provide DHCP with a reduced subset of addresses for only wireless devices. Let the server's DHCP provide all wire-based equipment addresses.
Turn off the wireless on the mac mini server and run wired from your ISP's modem. Before you do, however, you need to enter a static address into the TCP/IP section, including mask and gateway. This will avoid VPN and other service issues caused by having it turned on and receiving a DHCP address (at server can not, by nature, be a DHCP device).
To do remote desktop from the internet, you would connect through the WAN address provided to the server by your ISP, but you will need to open the firewall ports on the server. If you have the money, and want to most protection, you should invest in a firewall box like a SonicWall and insert this between your modem and the rest of your system. The SonicWall will provide faster, tighter attack protection and allows you to tie external service access down as tight as you want.
    Hope this helps.

  • Wifi-using Apps blocking 4G LTE network and can't make or receive calls. Any solutions?

Please note: I can make and receive calls right now, but I was having a significant issue earlier yesterday and today. So, I kind of want to give a heads up to others and see if anyone has experienced this and discovered the root cause of the problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I got it about a month or so ago. Within the last 24 hours, I have experienced issues with calling out and receiving calls. When someone tries to call me, it rings and rings, and goes to voicemail without it ever showing up as a recent call. It was determined that part of the issue is likely having to do with an App or multiple Apps that use my Wifi connection at home and is blocking the 4G LTE network. However, I wasn't really given a perma-solution to it. It's "trial and error" I guess. But, this could be a potential hazard and I would really like to figure it out once and for all. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to discover more about this issue and a perma-solution.
Here's what I did with customer service's help:
On the phone, turn the Wifi setting off.
Dial #832. If successful, dial another number and see if you can complete the call.
If you can complete the call, turn the Wifi setting back on.
Try dialing #832 again. If successful, try another number again and see if you can complete the call.
If you cannot complete the call successfully, try long-pressing the HOME button at the bottom of the device. All running apps should show up. Click CLOSE ALL.
Try calling #832 and the other number again to see if the calls can be completed.
If the calls can't be completed, call Customer Service, or if your phone is your only mode of communication, do a live chat via a laptop/desktop.
In the meantime, I did test having several apps open that do use Wifi, the 4G LTE indicate isn't showing up, but I seem to be able to make calls right now. Otherwise, for the sake of safety, does anyone out there have any solutions or know what App(s) or setting(s) may be the root cause of the problem?
    Thanks!

Told me to try *228. I told him Verizon Tech support told me not to do that. I'm sooo confused. :-(
If you are using a Bionic or any other 4G phone, you do not dial *228 to update your Preferred Roaming List ... that is handled automatically by the phone's SIM card.  To force an update, you can turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then replace the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and allow a few minutes for it to re-establish a connection.
However, as noted by the Verizon rep, if you check the Verizon coverage map, there isn't any coverage in area code 79834.  I've no explanation as to why your neighbor's phone works.
