Block internet; allow pop3

Is there a way to block the internet while allowing pop3 email access? The user is using Outlook Express to check work email (no Office license).
We have a rule in a certain subnet to block all internet, but this user needs to be able to check email.

Separating categories is not going to be possible for the current version of the IronPort URL filter. In 6.3, we are releasing a new category engine that may have some more flexibility in this area.
Let's revisit this inquiry when 6.3 is available. It is currently in early beta.

in my network I have a cisco 1941 router and 3750 switch. Users are configured on vlan 2 with a/24 range. I need to block Internet and allow email for selected users.
i try to exclude the selected user from getting natted so their internet will be blocked but it's prevented the users from email too (users can send email but not receive). The users uses pop account to get there email
so how to block the Internet to selected users but allow only email.

Assuming you have an ACL to block your /24, add an ACE to allow access to known email server IPs or open up the ports used by pop (usually port 25), or do both.

Yes, I was using iTunes to sync over cable without problems since orinigal purchase in 2011 and using 10.6 w/o problem. There was an "update" in Nov 2012 that crashed the sync service. I went to the Apple Store and reviewed the problem with the Geniuses there. It was discovered at that time that the update included mandated use of iCloud but enough of the un-updated code remained that he was able to patch functions to allow Microsoft Office to still sync over iTunes.
This March (+/-) there was another "update" to 10.6 that totally destroyed the patch that was in place so there was no sync service available between Microsoft and iTunes what-so-ever. Then recently, because of some unknown process, all my notes, contacts, and calendars were erased in both my Apple utilities and Microsoft utilities.
After many hours of frustration I was able to recover most of the information to the Apple utilities only, but those were unstable. At my visit to the Apple store it was suggested that an upgrade to 10.8 might solve the stability problem. That it did but being connected to the iCloud all the time keeps using up all my Internet time and I have nothing left to check emails or do research.
This, to me, is not my problem but one created by Apple. I have searched the Internet and support groups and there doesn't seem to be a solution.
The "aircraft mode" turns off all other communication functions and is not acceptable. Neither is disconnecting/turning off Airport on my MBP.

Hey guys is there a way to block internet connection via a lan connection for a period of time? A program that when my pc is boot up it run secretly and at the time schedule it block the internet connection with no pop up. When i not at home some person
used my pc to use my internet connection everyday. I can't lock up my pc since my brother or my dad used it.

Blocking internet access in a virtual windows xp box

Is there a way to block internet access when I have a virtual windows xp box within Windows 7?
The reason, is I just want to run one application and restrict internet access as I some users are restricted from the internet.

I'm afraid I'm a dummy, and don't know how to do this. I'm sure as April 8 approaches, a lot of people with important DOS or XP apps will be wanting to insulate their XP VM from potential hacking while still running programs locally.

How do I allow pop ups in safari without being asked "block or allow" ?

I'm assuming that when I turned on the setting in Safari to allow pop-ups, I wouldn't have to tell the browser to allow or block every single pop up after that. Is there a combination of settings to make allow pop-ups without the additional "block or allow" message from popping up before the pop up window.
I used a 3rd party web application that has been coded for their drill-down messages to be displayed in another screen and I have no control over that.

Well, not that helpful unless you can determine if that window is coming from Safari or iOS or from whatever the other "3rd party web application" you were talking about.
If you don't want to play in that pool, then assume that iOS and/or Safari are working incorrectly. Your Users Guide has a whole chapter (at the end) devoted to what you do when things aren't going well, generally following the sequence of
Restart - red slider, then boot up again
Force Quit apps - either via Sleep/Wake followed by Home, or via Recents Tray
Reset - hold Home & Sleep/Wake to force reboot
Reset iPad Settings - Settings > General >Reset
Erase All Content - same as above
Restore iPad Software - iTunes or iOS 5 equivalent
You start at #1 and work your way through until the issue you're seeing goes away. If you get through all of the steps and it still doesn't work, you're pretty much out of gas and have to start talking to Apple.
So .. start at #1.

Block internet to certain apps?

I am trying to block internet access to certain 3rd party (non-Apple) applications that I run in Mac OS X. I'd rather not say why I need to do this, but my computer should basically just stop all attempts at an internet connection by these applications (it should act as though there is no internet connection).
On Windows, I would just find the port the applications are trying to use and block the ports with my firewall. How do I do this on my Mac?
BTW, I'm a recent switcher, but am computer and IP literate.
Other info: I switch between Wifi and a Wired ethernet connection. Please ask for any other details you need.

LittleSnitch will work unregistered for three hours at a time with no limit to how often it's used. You just have to decide if the registration fee is worth not having to go back into SystemPreferences every three hours to turn it back on.

Firefox either closes suddenly when I click on the address bar after startup or it hangs and also blocks internet explorer from loading

On my Windows XP sp3 system the current the last two releases of Firefox both exhibit the same behavior. When I launch Firefox it will either shutdown within seconds with no crash reporter or other error logged or it will hang completely and indefinitely. When it hangs it also blocks internet explorer 8 from loading. I have tried and followed all the steps in the crashing FAQ including safe mode, uninstalls, re-installs, profile deletes (even the profile dialog closed suddenly). I use Norton Internet Security version 18.6.0.29. A full virus scan does not find any problems. I have disabled all toolbars, plugins and addons and the problem persists. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera all work fine. Only occasionally does Firefox load and keep running. It's as if it is failing on some check at startup and either crashes or hangs most of the time.

How to block internet to one of my machines

I have a very old windows 95 machine on my network. I am trying to figure out how to block internet usage to this machine but maintain the network. I use PC MacLan on that machine and it works fine. It is just that there is NO virus protection on this machine which means it is open all the time unless I unplug the ethernet cable.
Can anyone give me any suggestions? I have a router and dsl. Was hoping I could make some kind of setting in the OS pref panel.

Nope, DHCP will be fine, as long as the Router can prevent Internet for that one.
I think you can block Internet Access right on the PC too, by Not giving rights to use any Browser or eMail program, see if this helps...

As of now NO, there is not a way to block some popup windows and not others.
You have to just uncheck block popup blockers when you may need them.
You can send Feedback requesting this feature on future os.

WRT1900AC does not block internet access in Parental Control

Hi,My router does not block internet access on my other PC. I tryed "Always" tryed specific addresses, tryed IP addresses and everything tech support suggested. I even replaced the router at their advise. Nothing helped. I realize that the problem is not the router but probably my home network configuration, but I can't figure out what is it. WRT54Gv3 Looses/Blocks Internet Access

After installing version 4.21.1 of the Linksys frimware on my router WRT54Gv3 it will loose and/or block access to the internet. It will do it at random times usually weeks apart. All the lights on the router look normal, my modem still shows a connection to the router. My computers will connect to the router wired or wireless and I can also login to the config page of the router. Visually everything looks fine. Power cycling the modem and router does not fix the problem. I have to perform a factory reset on the router before it will work again. Is anyone having this problem with v4 or below of the WRT54G router after installing 4.21.1 of the linksys firmware? My friends router does the same thing and he has v4. I have v3.

Well my router has always had the default IP address.
I also noticed that when the internet is being block that i can use the diagnostic tab and get a response using ping and perform trace routes.
I can also release and renew my IP info from Comcast's DHCP Server.
I've never had a signal issue with the router. I'm always able to connect to it using a wireless or wired connection. I connect successfully to the router it's that it blocks access to the internet to all the connected computers.
I'm at a loss and so it seems with Linksys tech support. I had a chat with them and they made me do a factory reset then update the firmware and then perform a factory reset again. They felt that the firmware may have been somehow damaged when I previously updated the router. I feel like my router will start blocking internet access again by the end of the month. If not I'll let you know if resetting, flashing, and resetting thing worked.
