"Block person" selction on iMessages not enabling
I have followed the instructions in Mountain Lion OSX10.8.5 on how to block someone from iMessages, but when I try it, the "Block person" selection will not highlight in order to enable me to select it. I highlight the conversation on the left or the message window as instructed, and the "Block person" option never highlights. Any advice? Thanks.
I had the same exact issue and solved it after realizing that my iphone was configured with a @mac.com address and the ipad was with the @me.com that we can also use interchangeably. I set both devices to the @mac.com variant of my Apple ID and bingo! All as advertized!

Disappointed that personal hotspot not enabled in new iPads
Dear Apple,
I currently own a iPad, the original one, and was eagerly awaiting the release of the new iPad in Singapore.
I was going to buy it soon, but I read in Digital Life today, the IT pull out in the Singapore newspapers that the personal hotspot feature is not enabled for iPads sold here.
Why is this so?
Singapore telecommunications regulations does not allow telcos to lock devices, even if customers bought devices with subsidies. At the same, Singapore consumers can purchase iPads from non telco retailers.
Why are the interest of telcos put ahead of consumers? As consumers, we can purchase devices and services separately, and combine them in any way we see fit.
Please enable this feature, otherwise I will sit on the sidelines, and continue using my original iPad.
For potential new iPad customers, please like this post so Apple know how important this issue is for their customers.

There are 3 mobile providers in Singapore, all running on GSM. Telecommunications regulations bar telcos from locking handsets, and the penetration rate of mobile phones is higher than 100%, which means there are quite a few people who carry more than 1 phone around.
There is no limitation of tethering in Singapore by the telcos, the competition is such that the first telco who tries to force the rule onto their customers, would start seeing customer defections very quickly.
For my case, I subscribed to a mobile broadband plan that equipped me with a mobile wifi router, and then I cut the SIM card to size and placed it in my iPad. Why should I need permission from my telco to enable tethering? It was meant to be tethered to in the first place. -
I bought an iPhone while overseas, but I'm back living in the states now. It seems that FaceTime and iMessage is not enabled on it. How do I get it to work now that I'm back in the states?
I did buy it from someone in Jordan. So they might have got it from KSA, or UAE, or it even might be the same rules in Jordan. I don't think the imessage works even, every time someone sends me a message from their ipad it says "Not delivered". Maybe I am wrong?

I can use iMessage with all other iPhone users that I communicate with, except for ONE person. When I send to that person, it always goes through as a text message. This person can use iMessage with pther people, but when they send me a message, it always goes as a text. Why can we both communicate with other people using iMessage, but not with one another?

1) If you have OD set up and "editor" has UID 1111, then when they log in to any machine that's bound to OD as editor, they will get UID 1111. Therefore, there won't be any of these permission errors. This is typically the recommended approach.
2) I assume you mean "You'd prefer to not using open directory?" Whatever the case, OD isn't mandatory with Xsan -- it's just that with multiple user accounts, managing them centrally tends to be easier. For 3 or 4 accounts and 3 or 4 machines maybe it's no big deal. If you go larger, it could get a lot more complicated. That said, if you set it up such that each machine has the exact same set of users (as you said, Mary = UID 502, Fred = UID 503, William = UID 504), then you can do what you want. Mary can log in from multiple machines at the same time, and in general you won't have permissions problems. Of course, if you try and read and write the same file from multiple workstations at the same time, you will get file locking issues, which will prohibit somebody from successfully writing the file.
File locking issues are different from general permissions errors. The former basically says "hey, someone else is editing this file. Therefore I won't let you edit it right now... you can read it if you want though." Permissions means somebody saves it, and Xsan thinks you saved it and own the file, when you really don't.

I am trying to send photos to another iPhone user, however, every time I try to send it I get a prompt telling me that iMessage has to be enabled. I go into setting and iMessage is enabled but it will not send the photos in iMessage or otherwise.

IPad Mini / iMessage not syncing
Morning,
Just noticed for the second time that my iPad Mini isn't updating iMessage, I had this problem last weekend.
It has all the threads in there from about 2 days ago, now last time this happened when i replied within them outdated threads on the iPad Mini it started a new message thread for the other person on there device. I had to wipe and start again on my iPad, I have also noticed the same issue with my other half's iPad 2.

IMessage not working like it should!
I have a problem that I'm sure other people have as well.
The problem in a few words is that iMessage is not capable of fast switching between Wi-Fi and cellular network.
Example 1:
When I am texting with my girlfriend and I'm inside my house, but a bit too far from my router (but still connected to it, yet with a weak signal), the iPhone often fails to send the message (red dot error) or with a certain amount of delay (usually a minute or two).
Example 2:
When I am outside, on a location where I don't have a 3G connection and obviously no Wi-Fi either, I have the same issue as described in the example above. It also occurs when having a 3G connection, but this issue is much less occuring.
In my opinion, Apple should seriously rethink the way iMessage works, cause it is quite annoying when you think that a message has been sent. When you check your iPhone 20 min/ 1 hour/ 2 hours... later, and you find out the message hasn't got out, you feel like smashing the phone against a wall. Especially when the message is urgent.
I never have this problem with What's App, that's why I prefer to continue using this. Maybe Apple should buy them, so they have at least proper working software.
Is there a way to fix this? The level of 'this annoys the crap out of me' on a scale from 1 to 10 is 11 right now.I notice the same issues with my iPhone and iPad. I hope there will be a fix for it soon. The same type of problem occurs when I am using Safari and am farther away from my router at home; my device continues to try using the wi-fi instead of switching to 3G to optimize the download speed.
Another problem with iMessage: my sister has an iPhone without a data plan and has to turn off iMessage to send texts when she is outside of a wi-fi zone, otherwise it keeps try to send as an "iMessage" instead of a "Text Message" and displays the red dot error that it cannot send. And when I try sending her an iMessage (my iPhone knows she has iOS 5 with iMessage) it shows as delivered, even though she has her iMessage turned off and does not receive it until she turns it back on.
One more thing: The whole iMessage to email address and/or phone number is very lame...please make all iMessages (sent and received to either location) sync between registered devices. It just makes more sense than having 2 conversations open with the same person becasue you iMessage from your iPhone using your phone number then switched to your iPad using your email address..
There are a lot of things to fix/improve with iMessage to make it as good as WhatsApp or BBM...

MojaveMoon's solution will work if there is only one person you want to block your ID from; if you want to block your caller ID from everyone, you can go to your account online, go to Change Features, and scroll down till you see Caller ID block. Instructions say that once this is activated, you can dial *82 before any # you WANT to display your number to, but all others will be blocked.
If you are on a Family share plan, the account owner needs to log in and choose your line to activate this feature. -

BTW- Your profile shows you have iOS 6.1.4 installed. The max iOS for an iPad is 6.1.3. iOS 6.1.4 is for iPhones only. -
After copy, paste is not enabled in edit menu selection. Started all of a sudden.
I've been moving many files that somehow were inadvertantly moved to the wrong folder. I copied quite a few, then one day after I copied a file, (and later verified it was on the clipboard), when I selected the location to copy to, the right click or edit menu options either did not have the paste option, or it was not enabled (faded). What could cause this feature to go away? I wish I could CUT and paste instead. If I try to slide a file to a new location, it becomes an alias and I can't delete the original file. I verified the disk and repaired disk permissions. Any other suggestions?

On a normal screen some of the functions are not enabled when cursor is placed on it.For example,in rediffmail the folders,settings, sign out, functions are not enabled in normal screen when cursor is placed on it.On full screen mode these are enabled.
Have you got anything like addblockers or script blockers installed which may cause this problem ?
