Block Personal Email Access Over The Air

Thanks in advance for any replies.
Issue: Company are going to deploy 100 iPad 2 to field based staff. We are going to use an MDM solution to deploy configuration profiles to lock down the devices for a corporate environment over the air.
One issue we can not resolve at the moment is blocking staff adding a new personal e-mail account (gmail, hotmail etc...) by the way of an over the air provisioning profile.
If we deploy the MDM solution to the device & set-up Exchange e-mail access after this is complete we can turn off adding a new e-mail account via the restrictions option but this has to be completed manually!
Does anyone know a way of doing the above over the air so we do not have to visit each device? Downloaded the latest version of iPhone Config Utility (3.5.0.289) but this option is not available under mail or restrictions to my knowledge.

The MDM solution has a built-in content blocker that can block access to specific URLs so web based e-mail can be blocked via that.
Alternatively we could filter web traffic via our corporate VPN & then us the head office web filtering application to block access to web based email via Safari.

  • Move (or access) Aperture library to new mac from other mac (over the air)

I had Aperture 1.5.6 on my iMac. I upgraded to snow leopard and now Aperture will not work. Apple says the old version does not work with the new. Now I cant get to any of my pics. So I loaded my copy of Aperture on my Macbook air which still has leopard. No probs with the install but I cant move my library. I can see the Aperture library file on the iMac over the air from my macbook. I want to either import over the air or access over the air. I tried to chance the location of the library in aperture on my MBA but when I drilled down to the library on my iMac it said "not writable". I "got info" to make sure my MBA had read and write permissions for all the files on my Imac (and it does) but still no joy. Any help?
    Matt

You can't access it "over the air." Aperture cannot edit a library over a network share point.
Copy the library to the MacBook Air and you can use it from there.

Go to Settings>iCloud and set up the iCloud account you were using before by singing in with the same Apple ID.  Then turn the data you were syncing with your iCloud account back to On, and if prompted, choose merge.

  • Over the air backup solution?

I'm desperately seeking an over the air backup solution for my 2009 edition macbook air. I've tried carbonite, mozy and dropbox, but all of them bring the computer to a crawl when backing up significant amounts of data -- so really they're unusable as a complete backup solution.
    1. What do you use/recommend?
    2. With the 2010 edition and faster CPUs, would I no longer have such problems? (if you have experience with this, not theoretically)
    Thanks!!

    Hi Rob1977,
I use Dropbox (a lot) and I'm a big fan of their product and it's integration with OS X. However, I've never really seen their service model targeted at the online backup crowd. Personally I think Dropbox is more of a cloud storage for regularly accessed files then a cloud backup solution but I suppose everyone's usage of the product is different.
I had never heard of Mozy, but I decided to try and signup for their free 2GB trial account. So far I'm very unimpressed, the speed of upload/download is about 40% slower than Dropbox (same location, same machine). Although, I did not notice any slow down on my 13" MBP or my 11" MBA when using Dropbox I definitely saw it with Mozy (as compared to Dropbox).

  • Sync iCal with iphone using .mac over the air

I can't seem to get my iCal appointments to sync with my iPhone unless I use the USB cable. I thought it would sync over the air the same way my email does. can anyone help?

The iPhone does not support OTA syncing - all data is synced via a USB connection with your computer through iTunes only.
Server stored mailboxes for your .Mac account are kept synchronized since you are accessing the account as an IMAP account - the same applies to any IMAP account accessed with the iPhone.

  • What does it mean, in iTunes, "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air"?

    Hello,
I'm trying to sync the contacts on my iPhone 5 with my contacts on my Mac Book Air (merge them), I'm also using Outlook (Microsoft) to manage my email account and my contacts.  I used to sync my contacts from my previous iPhone (4S) with my contacts on my Mac and also with contacts on Outlook.
Now that I have iPhone 5 I missed that sync (iPhone-Mac-Outlook), so I figure it out that in iTunes there is this message: "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. Your contacts will also sync directly with this computer. This may result in duplicated data showing on your device"
Every contact created on iPhone doesn't sync with my Mac or Outlook.
How should I configure my iphone and my mac to sync properly??
    Thanks a lot!
    Kind Regards,

Not surprisingly there have been no answers to this question because the only person who knows how to use iTunes/iCloud/iPhone is too busy.

  • IPhone erase (over the air)????

    hello to all,
I remember steve talking about a great new feature before the iphone actually went on sale where he stated that now it was possible to erase the iphone over the air (lets say you were to lose it) and wanted to cancel all of you personal information.... does anyone know the way to do this and if they actually made this possible???

A consumer can use it, if they have a connection to an MS Exchange Server. Don't say it's not fair, it a supported feature of certain back-end systems that you don't use. It's a feature that Microsoft has chosen to develop and include with Exchange.
Saying it's not fair makes you sound like a whiner who wants the government, or some NGO body, to dictate what feature are and will be supported by all mobile phones.
If there is a significant demand for a feature similar to this out side of an enterprise, then an application developer will write an application to do this. But it's perfectly fair that it's a feature that you don't have access to.

  • No WIFI after iOS 5.0.1 over-the-air update on original iPad

No WIFI after iOS 5.0.1 over-the-air update on original iPad. I have reset the network settings,  power off the iPad, trying static IP and nothing, it's unable to join my wifi network. anybody with the same issue?

    Great!  Thanks, this works.
I have an old Linksys WRT54G in it I can select WPA Personal and AES as algorithm--it works for me (though maybe just changing to anything works!  but I will not try anything different since I have spent already so much time with this problem.)  Again, thanks for the solution Juan.

  • Over the air sync can be changed on your iPhone

iTunes says that "Your contacts are being synced with your iPhone over the air from MobileMe.
Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPhone".
How do I change that so I can sync my contacts with Windows Contacts? When I tried to sync with MobileMe I lost all of my contacts and I want to get them back on my iPhone.

    Hi,
I did the same thing deleted my email account and recreated it, went with the same settings and same issues.
I certainly am not a Mac or iPhone expert, but I can tell you what happened to me then. I obviously had the same issue with "over air sync can be changed on your iphone" and my contacts had been wiped out. I was concerned as I had lost all my contacts off the iphone however my mobileme account had all of the contacts there. I found that all I had to do was give it some time to really sync between mobileme and the iphone contacts. I was being too impatient expecting them to appear instantly once I agreed to the sync with mobileme. I left it for a few hours and the contacts finally syncd.
    Hope this helps

  • TV Guide on-Screen not working over-the-air

Just recently revived a 42HL196 (see thread "Red light flashing on 42L196"), the first TV I've repaired that features TVGuide On Screen.  I was all excited about this until reading on the web that Rovi, the owner company of TVGuide service, phased out over-the-air (antenna) transmission of TV Guide data earlier this year.  This explains the fact that even with the set programmed for antenna service and connected to AC over the last couple of weeks, the TV Guide function shows "in progress" for everything but the time setting, which I had set manually.   Rovi will supposedly also phase out the cable based service, leaving only the web based TV Guide, which of course, requires an internet connected TV.
So here's the question; any other 42HL196 owners out there using over-the-air (antenna) notice the loss of TV Guide, and if so, have you contacted Toshiba support about it?  I submitted an email request but their reply was that I should phone their support number.  Before going that route, I'm checking this forum for any owners that may already have dealt with this.  It doesn't help that the user manual for this set says next to nothing about TV Guide on Screen; some other Toshiba TVs with this feature appear to have a full section in their manuals covering it, but not this one.  The set has version 37 software and I don't know if this is the latest.  Since this TV has a network connection, I was sorta hoping that maybe there is a software update that would make the TV retrieve TV Guide data over the internet rather than from the antenna/cable input.

Those drivers are crap.Try other drivers.

  • Over the Air iOS App Release

Hi, I have developed a small eBook for the iPad using Flash and I want to show it to a friend who is across town.
He says that I can do an "Over the Air" build which he can download from an email link.  So he can download the app straight to his iPad and use it like he bought it through iTunes.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Thank you for the help. The developer did say they're not colllecting the UDID's or the data on the phones, but I'm not trusting my iphone and my account's safety in his words only. He did also mention that the date had to be changed in order to download it, maybe because Apple doesn't allow it to be distributed that way anymore, anyways I'll just stick with the apps I get from the Store.
    Best Regards.

  • What happened to over the air updates

am I the only one, or has over the air updates been changed to over WiFi updates? Not the same thing. Pretty inconvenient when you're somewhere without WiFi and want to update your phone.

I always update via Wi-Fi so don't have any personal experience but did notice the following quote in Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Some iOS software updates aren't available as over-the-air updates.

  • Is it just me, or do most of the upgrade problems (not bugs) happen when updating "over-the-air", rather than using a computer and iTunes ?

I have used iTunes on a computer every time, and so far have had no problems like the ones we are seeing here.
Just want to reiterate - I am not talking about iOS 7 bugs - but just performing the update(s)

Absolutely!!  I've had no problems upgrading the iPhone using iTunes.  It also allows me to backup the iPhone's settings so I can recover them if something goes wrong in the upgrade process.  I have always upgraded using iTunes and would not do it any other way.
My wife upgraded to iOS6 directly to her iPhone 4S and lost her contacts and other information, and had problems with wifi access, etc.  At the next iOS change, I did the upgrade on her phone through iTunes and had no problem.
Even MacWorld reports that upgrading "over the air" directly on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch can create instability in the OS.

  • Someone else's Notes appearing on my iPhone. I'm using version 5.0.1. I assume there is some type of over-the-air sync problem happening?

Someone else's Notes appearing on my iPhone. I'm using version 5.0.1. I assume there is some type of over-the-air sync problem happening?

Doing a restore will more than likely resolve the problem. Plug the phone into iTunes, select your phone under DEVICES, and press Restore. This will restore your phone to factory settings. Now, after the restore is complete, you have two options:
    1) Restore from Backup
This will let you restore all of the content you had on your phone but may also restore the other person's notes and their ability to sync notes to your phone.
    2) Set Up as New iPhone
Your data will not be restored, but you can always sync content back later as long as it is in iTunes. On the positive side, this would positively remove any setting that would allow someone else's notes to appear on your phone.
You will be presented with these two options after the restore. I recommend restoring from a backup first so you won't lose your data, but if it doesn't solve the problem, proceed to restore as a new phone.

  • How to use Over the Air QoS in WLC 2106

    Hi all,
My company is using a WLC2106 with 4 APs directly connected to the port 4 - 8. With port one to management/data VLAN. Two SSIDs "Manager" and "Staff" using WPA + TKIP were created and both bridged to the management interface (assigned to port 1 untagged) of WLC. WLC port 1 is connected to C2950 FE port. Our network do not have any QoS.
I've changed the Maximum RF usage per AP to 10% in bronze and 10 for the queue length while keeping 100% and 50 for Max RF and queue length unchanged for silver profile in hope that Staff SSID will not use more than 10% of the RF channel (i.e. ~5Mbps) per AP
I tested the settings with four notebooks with staff:manager proportion 1:3 and 3:1 with only one AP on. However, none of which gives the expected result -- Staff share at most 10% (~5Mbps) of RF channel while manager share the remaining
It would be grateful if you could tell me if this can be achieved by solely Over the Air QoS of the WLC under our network? If not, how can be achieve this by modifying / adding additional gears.
    Thanks.

I did find this, but doesn't explain much.
    Q. What is meant by Over the Air QoS on a controller?
    A. Over the Air QoS is a QoS parameter defined in a controller. It varies based on the user class.
In a Cisco Unified Wireless Networking environment, users on a wireless LAN can be categorized and assigned to any of these QoS profiles:
    Platinum
    Gold
    Silver
    Bronze
These profiles can be found under the Controller > QoS profiles page.
For each of these profiles, Cisco has the configurable Over the Air QoS parameter, which is found under the edit page of each QoS profile. This Over the Air QoS specifies two different settings for the particular class of user (QoS profile):
Maximum radio frequency (RF) usage (per access point [AP])-This is a maximum percentage of air bandwidth given to a user class. For example, if you have a network where the guest QoS profile has the max bw limitation for bronze set to 10% even if a single bronze user is using the AP, it can never receive more than 10% of the total available bandwidth.
Queue Depth-This is the depth of the queue for the particular class. It causes packets greater than the value to be dropped at the AP.
Note: Only the 1000 series supports the maximum RF usage setting.
