Block Planning - PPM - Characteristic propogation

Hi All
During characteristic propogation in the PPM I get a warning message as follows:
No characteristics are defined as 'Input'
No characteristics are defined as 'Output'
Could anyone indicate where I'm going wrong. Thanks in advance

may be som configuration or exit is used in ur system.
check in debugging mode while saving ur salesorder.

Configurated sales orders and block planning

We plan to implement ECC configurated sales orders and APo DP and block planning.
We is the preferable process :
- create the production orders in ECC at time of sales orders creation and run heuristics in apo to cover forecast with planned orders
- send sales orders in Apo run heuristic and convert planned orders to production orders to cover sales orders?

Block Planning High level process flow and configuration - PPDS

Dear Experts,
I am trying to understand more about Block planning
from my understanding
Block Planning is a pre-assignment of resource and capacities for a limited duration of time which mean dedicated resource for a particular operation
correct me if i am wrong
which mean I am able to hold a Resource A for a particular date like say march 20 and march 21 for a particular production version of operation like say 10
if my understanding is correct what are the basic configuration setting and the process flow

Hello,
Finally we found a partial solution to work with Adjust & Reschedule Block limits.
The overloaded blocks are extended inside to the cycle limits. Unfortunately the blocks with free capacity are not shortened.
Does anybody have an idea why the heuristic is working for the extend but not for the shortened?

SAP_CDPBP_02: Heuristic for Block Planning

Hi All
I am presently working on a APO PPDS implementation Project where we are considering Block Planning solution. We are currently exploring the SAP_CDPBP_02 Heuristic for Block Planning. Our current requirement is to use the Block planning solution for capacity utilization situation where this particular heuristic should help us with Block adjustments in case of capacity overload /underload i.e. the Blocks should be extended in case of overload , and should be shortened in case of underload, after running this heuristic.
Somehow this particular heuristic doesnu2019t seem to work for us although SAP help suggest that it can solve the Block adjustment problem. We are working with SCM 4.1 release. SAP note 975604 suggests that we need to apply the support pack SAPKY41012 to SCM 4.1 release, for this Heuristic to work but this particular support pack is already applied to our system and still we are not getting the desired result.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I wanted to know the procedure while executing this heuristic on the DS planning board.
1) Do you select the resource and execute the heuristic by going to Functions--> Heuristic --> Adjust and Reschedule Block limits
Or 2) You select the Block and the overloaded orders simultaneously and then go to Functions > Heuristics> Adjust and reschedule Block Limits.
Also what settings are you choosing in the Resource master in the PPDS Bucket capacity tab:
You are choosing Bucket Definition as "No PPDS Available Bucket capacity" or
" From Block Planning" & "Time continuous capacity" in the Finite capacity.
Also are you unchecking the "Use Bucket capacity" checkbox or letting it as it is with the checkbox ticked in the settings for the heuristic SAP_CDPBP_02.

Hi Harsh,
Remember that the tree table is a Master-Detail relationship between VO. So in your case, you are applying a VO Criteria to your Master, wich will allow you to filter data a Master Level. If you want to filter the Child VO, you need to create a ViewCriteria for it and apply it in your AM -> YourMaster -> YourChild VO :: Edit -> Shuttle the VC to the right.
But following this approach the Filter you use in the ChildVO, will be applied to all Childs independently of the MasterVO.
Hope it is clearer now, but let me know if you need more help or if you think I didn't understand your main issue.

Block Planning Display block options eg Percent of block utilised and Qtys?

Any hints how to display block quantities and percent utilised in PPDS area?
I have managed so far to get the following for blocks that cross between months.
1. Resource table. (/SAPAPO/RPT - Resource Planning Table )Can highlight both columns that the specific block is in, click "show operations", get the operations to show in the bottome screen, and the FILTER on the specfic dates to get the block quantities.
This works to get a block quantity but would need to do a slow manual process for every block!
2. Receipts View (/SAPAPO/RRP4). Can set up a visualisation profile which shows my characteristic in a column in the report, and then I can select a SINGLE resource from the front selection and get a listing of the quantities from that single resource, and then with filters on dates and/or characteristic, I can get the quantities.
But this is slow and manual per resource.
3. Detailed scheduling board shows VISUALLY whether blocks look full or not, but I cant find any way of getting any block quantities or percent complete from this view.
Ideally, I want a way I can download all resource quantities and block quantities and then determine percent utilized in the blocks and put alerts on this to show which blocks are under-utilised.
Any ideas????

Aha. Found it.
in the DS Planning board.
click an order on block and then EDIT/SELECT/ALL FOR SAME BLOCK
then
EXTRAS / EVALUATION / EXTENDED OPERATIONS LIST - this gives all the quantities for selected block
then
EXTRAS / EVALUATION / RESOURCE UTILIZATION - select blocks and get percent utilisation for blocks

How to block planned order when there is a credit block in sales order

How to Block Planning for PIR related Dependend Requirements of a BOM Comp?

Hi All,
We have a scenario which has a FERT Material "XY" has a BOM with ROH Materials "C1", "C2" & "C3".
Material "XY" has a PIR for 100 pc and on MRP Run it generates Dep Reqmnt for C1, C2 & C3. When MRP Runs, we want to BLOCK generation of Purchase Requisition for C1 only (because of its high Value, the Buyer does not want to buy it for the PIR Planning).
At the same time there is a Sales Order for "XY" for 50 pc and on MRP Run it creates Dep Reqmnt for C1, C2 & C3 and also Purchase Requisitions.
This time, Buyer wants to have the Purchase Requistion for C1 as a result of Planning Run.
Both "XY" & C1, C2 & C3 are all in Planning Strategy 40 and MRP Type PD
I tried to BLOCK the Pur Req generation by putting the MRP Dep Reqmnts as "1" but it is blocking all the PRs.
Requirement is to block Pur Req generation for PIR Dep Reqmnts and Not-Blocking generation of PR based on Dep Reqmnts from Sales Orders.
How can this be achieved?

A Suggestion:
Create an additional alternative BOM for your "XY".
In this remove the Component C1. Only C2 and C3 will exist.
Create 2 Production Versions.
The 1st PV will have the BOM alternative with all the components.
The 2nd PV will have the BOM alternative with the Components with C2 & C3 only.
Now in MD62/61 for "XY", specify the Production as PV2, so that every time for PIR, system will consider PV2 and in this the component C1 is not included.
For all the other purposes (sales order --> Pl. Order --> dependent req.), System will pick the PV1 by default.
Pl. create the PVs for the same date and same lot size.
in MRP4 view, BOM selection method, select - 2 Selection by production version.
Try this and revert for further discussion..

Block Planning Sim Session

I am looking for making changes to blocks (increase size based on overload tolerance) in a SIM session (while processing sales order-ctp).
looking for any function modules/classes.

You want to optimise the selected product on selected resource then during optimisation system will not move anything which is not display and optimise accordingly.
But if you want to saya that in initial screen of ds board you are selecting resource and product using planner , but you want to optimise the selected resources and all product on that resource you can do this in ds board profile .
Yes using block with setup is not a good idea.
but if you want that inside a block where two characterstics are flowing and on those two characterstics if you want to use setup optimisation then it is useful.Because block is consider as hard constrain and setup is soft constrained, so it first put this on block then puts on setup (if any).
And one more thing during optimisation system is not doing any kind of planning , it only optimised using given criteria.
So you will not get the desired solution.

BPS Layout / planning level / characteristic relationship issue

I have a design question.
I have a characteristic relationship for 0CALMONTH(Cal. Year/Month) The below are derived attributes
Calendar month
Quarter
Cal. Year/Quarter
Calendar year
Fiscal year/period
Posting period
I am not using 0CALMONTH in my level/layout.
Question1 : When I save the layout by changing the key figure, the system creates another record with what ever the changes perfectly but it is not copying all the characteristics that were in the original line. One example of this issue is for characteristic relationship object.
Question2 : I do have the problem with other characteristics that NOT in the level since I am not using it but when I make a change for key figure in the layout and save it , it is not copying to the new line with all the characteristics.
Can I design this way? If yes why the values are not copied over to the new line? Any user exits where I can check / debug during the layout save?
I do not have any problem when I use standard BPS copy function, have these problems during the layout save.

Thank you Mayank. Very helpful/excellent. I think I am very clear/ all set , I will solve some of them by using derived charaterstic relationships.
One more important questions : How can We provide a solution where We can not use a particular characterstics at level because of the agrregation behavior of the layout and can not be derived ? but while We save the layout We need to get those characterstics like copy function does copy all the characterstics even if they are not in the level.
Is this make sense ? may not be valid question ? any thoughts ?

I am not sure that I understand your explanation. Correct me if I am wrong.
1)If I restrict 0plant-5000 in the planning query, I either setup 'filter' in the planning modeler or in the 'CHAR restriction'. If so, which way is better? Why?
2) what is re-usable filter?
3) in the BEx filter, there are two options- CHAR restriction and default. I checked online info and it said that you can change 'filter value' in the run time if u restrict 0plant 5000 in the planning query. However, I found that it seems it is not true, I can change filter value in the runtime if I restrict 0plant-5000 in the 'CHAR restriction'. Did I miss something?

Is possible forecast from DP to PPDS w characteristic use with CDP block?

We have set up a test scenario with CDP (Characteristic Dependant Planning) setting to utilize Block Planning and I want to send the demand quantities from DP to PPDS, in a way that the characteristic sent with the Demand Plan (eg Product, Location and Colour = Red) will then match the block when creating the PPDS order (eg Block = Colour Red)
I have tried 2 methods so far which have not worked, and I am wanting to find out if it is possible to send demand planning volumes to use with PPDS CDP Blocks?

Cannot use CBF and CDP together on the one client
I have tried these 2 methods.
1. Setting up CBF (Characteristic Based Forecasting) in DP and trying to send these to PPDS CDP. That was before I found the above help guide that tells me this is not possible. The data went across from DP to PPDS, but the results were a mess, the wrong values to the wrong characteristics.
2. Tried sending Demand planning with standard characteristics from DP to PPDS, and this initially looked like it would work. Consumption group, Product, Location, ZCOLOUR (created a BW type info-object called ZCOLOUR which I put in the DP Planning object)
But when sending to PPDS, the COLOUR = RED comes over as a "desciptive characteristic", which is different to the manually created forecast in PPDS which is colour = RED within CLASS ZZZBLOCK Characteristic ZCOLOUR (Value = red), which comes up as a seperate tab on the requirement.
So the two ZCOLOURS of the infoobject ZCOLOUR and the Characteristic within Class 400 ZCOLOUR do not talk to each other ,and PPDS does not recognize the object, so cannot create any PPDS orders with block relevant characteristics.
The SAP help just talks about "create an ECC sales order" to use to feed demand into the CDP Blocks, so possibly it is not possible to map Demand Plan data to PPDS CDP Blocks. Has anyone got this to work?

Use consumption group with CBF characteristics. The CBF characteristics need to be in the consumption group!
The consumption group has to be assigned to the u2018demandu2019-view of the
product master
The assignment of the consumption group to the release settings (transaction
/SAPAPO/MC90)
If you want to Make-to-Stock Segment implement the BADI:
From a configuration point of view it is required to activate the BAdI
/SAPAPO/DM_BADI_CONF and add following line of coding to the method
CONFR_FILL:

Error- PPDS Planning board -Heuristic 'Adjust and Reschedule Block Limits'

Hi,
I have created a sales order in ERP and overload (within tolerance) a block of a block planning enbaled resource in APO. The block is overloaded.
Then I've run the "Heuristic 'Adjust and Reschedule Block Limits'" under Functions-->Heuristics.
Now i expect that the overload disappears. But I get the message "Heuristic 'Adjust and Reschedule Block Limits' - Executed without result".
Could you please suggest why the Heuristics is not working? Has any setting been missed or set wrongly?

Sequence dependent lot-size planning as a basis for PP/DS blocks?

Hi ,
I consider the following system setup for a Mill Products planning implementation .
1) In SNP one performs SOP planning with common goals to adjust sales plan, establish equipment maintenance plan, transportation plan, etc. The first month of the SNP plan is supposed to be in daily buckets. Using the SNP optimizer is a good option since the business goal is to use equipment more efficiently, let's say to minimize setup costs, and there are warehouse limitations for semifinished products as well.
2) In PP/DS we are going to use CDP and block planning since it is the best practice.
3) SNP planned orders can be used as a basis for PP/DS blocks on the resource, upon the condition that the configuration of SNP product - kmat variant and block requirements match.
In SNP i see that the SNP PDS has a duration of 1 day (that's fine), but the sequence dependent lot-size planning requires a bucket of at least 1 week long (1 month in my case) since the SNP orders are sequence-optimized only inside of one bucket. The result of such an optimization are additional counters assigned to SNP orders according to their sequence minimizing setup costs. However, orders are not scheduled according to the sequence.
So far it looks like such a combination is not useful as
- Orders in monthly buckets are not scheduled on days and cannot serve as a basis for block dates proposal for PP/DS block planning.
- If a product production volume is less than 1 day, SNP cannot create any more detailed block in principle since the minimal time bucket is daily bucket.
I searched over forums on these or similar topics, however no definitive answer so far for the question in the subj.
Could anyone bring more light on this ? Maybe I am missing something in the setup or sequence dependent lot size planning was designed for other purposes/industries?

Issue one
in product selection for propagation range you can set your selection criteria which selects the products dynamically. You just have to change your report variants for planning run. Do I misunderstand your concerns?
Issue two
Changing to planning procedure 1 will not delete the PFE but will prevent APO to create a new entry after any MRP-relevant changes happen or heuristic SAP_PP_020 (which creates the initial entry and does the low level code determination) is run.
In some cases procedure 1 will still create a PFE. Please check customizing for details. Thats why I would recommend to create a new planning procedure with "no reactions".
As soon as you prevent APO from creating new PFEs you can just once delete the PFEs in /SAPAPO/NETCH by just setting the first column for these materials blank (select your materials, mark column, delete indicator).
Corresponding table to MDVM is /SAPAPO/PEGKEY. Indicator for PP/DS is NETCH_RRP.
If material is not planned in APO you do not need a PFE in APO.
Issue 3
Maybe utilize table /SAPAP/PEGKEY
As I said if you prevent creating the entry you just have to delete (set indicator blank) once.
