Block popups/Ads on safari

Because safari wasn't downloading fast enough, someone suggested using firefox with the download it all plugin.Ever since that,I am getting a lot of popups & ads on safari similar to junk you get on pcs. What's going on? Is there anything I could do to get safari to be the good ol one?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked.

  • How do I stop popup ads in Safari 8.0?

Recently it seems that there is a sudden increase in popup ads appearing in Safari.  Each one has an "x" that allows it to be deleted, but they keep happening much more often than they used to.  Is there some setting I can make that will block popup ads?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.

  • How to block popup ads

    Hi,
I accidentally installed jollywallet and I immidiately uninstalled it but I keep getting popup ads on Safari and Chrome
ever since I did that. Popup block is on but ads keep appearing and I would like to remove them if anyone can help me to get rid of them.
When Enable Javascript is ticked, it does not show up but it effects some websites that I would like to see.
Thank you in advance for helping me.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • How To Block YouTube Ads In Safari 5.x (Solution)

In Safari Ver 5.x running in Snow Leopard one of the most annoying things is the fact that the AdBlock extension while doing a good job simply doesn't block those annoying banner/ pop up ads in YouTube videos...
Happily it's now easy to fix with the following solution...
You will need or probably already have installed the AdBlock extensions for Safari if not you can find it here...
    https://extensions.apple.com/
Now you will also need "GlimmerBlocker" which can be found here...
    http://glimmerblocker.org/
(download the version fos OX 10.6 Version 1.4.16 for Safari 5 on Snow Leopard)
Simply download and install "Glimmer Blocker" which will set up a new "Preference Pane" for you...
Click on the "Glimmer Blocker" preference pane and then select "Filters" from the tab bar...
Un-tick/ deselect all the boxes in the "Filters" section then click on the "+" sign below the "Filters" window to add a new filter...
Give the filter a name (I simply called it YouTube)...
(Make sure only the new filter you create is ticked - you don't need the rest if your using "AdBlock" as well)
Now in the  "Rules" window below click on the "+" sign below that to add a new rule...
Now simply set it up as shown in the following picture and click on "Save"...
(The most important bit to set is the "Host" section which must be set to "is in domain" and using "2mdn.net" in the text field)
Now you will find all those annoying pop up banner ads in YouTube videos are gone for good...
I suppose you could just use "Glimmer Blocker" as your only "Ad Blocker" but I prefer to use "AdBlock" as it's smaller and uses less resources but with "Glimmer Blocker" installed as well it finally means that you can get rid of YouTube video ads too when using Safari 5.x & Snow Leopard....
Tested on an iMac 27" i5 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7

Here's a list of "Rules" you can use in GlimmerBlocker to block those annoying in video adverts on "Vevo" and "Daily Motion"...
Just follow the same steps as I described earlier and in the "Host" option enter the following to set up new ad blocking rules...
To Block In Video Ads On Daily Motion...
    1. Add a "Filter"and call it for example "Daily Motion Ad Blocker"...
    2. Add a "Rule" and enter "fwmrm.net" (without the quotes) into the "Host:" field. Then Click on Save in the "Rule" window...
    3. Add a "Rule" and enter "ad.auditude.com" (without the quotes) into the "Host:" field. Then Click on Save in the "Rule" window...
To Block In Video Ads On Vevo...
    1. Add a "Filter"and call it for example "Vevo Ad Blocker"...
    2. Add a "Rule" and enter "Video2AdRenderer.swf" (without the quotes) into the "Host:" field. Then Click on Save in the "Rule" window...
    3. Add a "Rule" and enter "9cf9.v.fwmrm.net" (without the quotes) into the "Host:" field. Then Click on Save in the "Rule" window...
The above filter should block all those annoying in video ads on both Vevo and Daily Motion

  • ANNOYING MACKEEPER TABS AND POPUP ADS

    Hi there,
I bought a new macbook air 2 weeks ago, all has been well and good (new to mac products, always for android, still am).
Safari has also been good, as well as chrome, but as of recently, this whole "MacKeeper", "Zeobit.com" **** is completely taking over my search engines etc, problems including:
    - Clean up mac ads everywhere, as well as the typical "Get a new iPhone 5' rubbish
    - When clicking on links, my top sites tab shows up as well as the typical "MacKeeper" download page in another. I can only open links by pressing command to open in new tabs, however my top sites tab opens as well as the Mackeeper download page, along with it's fling annoying ads
    - Ads as well before relevant google search links, like "Pages related to...." With zeobit.com on every inch of my ******* screen
    Note that:
    - I HAVE NOT downloaded anything to do with mackeeper, so uninstalling programs etc is unnecessary information - purely mackeeper tab and popup annoyances
    - I have TRIED to 'restart' safari and remove cache, nothing works
    - I have done the whole system preferences, privacy, remove all website data (which this zeobit.com **** is listed), and I remove zeobit.com but it just goes back on the list when I go through this process again
    - Yes I have 'block popup ads' ticked
Can someone give me a solution to removing these popups with anything to do with zeobit.com and fling mackeeper which doesn't require me to read a long page of information? I'm about to smash my screen in here.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Popup ads and windows showing in Safari

    Hi all,
it has been few weeks that Safari started to show popup ads. Both the one in page and the ones creating a new window (tab since I use Glims). I wonder because they all are in Italian (I am in Italy indeed). I never had them before. Did they find a way to break the popup block (which is enabled)? is there any way to cure it? I already use GlimmerBlocker that does a wonderful job generally, but nothing stops these few popups coming out. Any idea? Thanks!!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Block Pop Up Windows
    See if that helps.
Glims can cause issues with Safari.. just be aware.
Safari 4: May unexpectedly quit with "Glims for Safari"

    Might be a Safari extension...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • What happened to the "Block Popup Windows" menu item in Safari 6?

What happened to the "Block Popup Windows" menu item in Safari 6?  Seems to be gone.

Shheesh!  Loki is saying that this was a very useful tool/option.  Is there any way to BRING IT BACK TO THE SAFARI MENU?  Not how to do it in Preferences.
What I am saying is: What incompetent is responsible for this build of Safari?  There was no reason to take that out... plenty of room in the Safari menu.  But if you REALLY want to know why I'm ******, Older people can no longer go into "Appearances" and change the Fonts and Size without knowing how to use terminal or how to make .css files.  (which doesn't work well anyway)
    This build is infuriating.

Thanks for the reply and add block link. I have used this before but this is a completely different problem that I am experiencing.
I have a suspicion that I have something on the computer that has control.
The advert popups are always for Mac Cleaner.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Why do I keep seeing popups "ads blocked for....."

These popups are small, rectangular, and have yellow borders containing diagonal black stripes. They contain the text "Ads blocked for" and a set of numbers.
I have unblocked the block popups menu and have deleted some site's cookies.
    I use Virus Barrier X6 on a Mac OS X 10.6.6.

  • Safari not blocking popups

I have all my preferences set to block popups but I'm getting flooded with them. It seams like evertime I go to a new page I get redirected to something I would never go to such as "Look up you credit report" or "rent a baby elephant". It's all a bunch of bull. I like Mac and Safari because I do not have to deal with this but after installing OS X Mavericks 10.9 and Safari 7.0 that's all I'm getting.

With all cookies blocked, do not track, etc. enabled.  I delete all bad cookies (e.g., Google, ad****), do nothing, and in minutes tens or hundreds are re-installed.  Google requires only that I delete cookis to put them back.  Apple, how do I set up blacklists for cookies?

  • Block popups in safari per domain?

I know how to block popups, simple little check in the menu but is this seriously the only place and only setting for the entire browser? This global block? I find it hard to believe that there is not a place to add domains that you would like to have popups. A good example is the hulu site. I watch movies there and they have a popup player and every time I want to watch a movie there, I have to deactivate popups and hit the popup player, then reactivate popup blocker. Just wondering why there is not a way to add domains that you regularly visit and want popups to be allowed.
