Block Sections in movie after burning

After I burn a movie I put it in to watch and during faster sequences it gets all blocky. Here's what I've tried:
I've done a test on the burner
Burned it to the HD and it did looked the same way
It looks fine when I watch it in QuickTime before I burn
Changed the Performance Setting to the Quality Setting
Exporting it from Final Cut Pro 3 in many differnet formats
Tried it in Widescreen and 4:3
Played it in different DVD players
All this and nothing seems to work. I'm all out of ideas. Could someone please help??? Thanks

Take a look at this:

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Mysterious sound appears in my movie after burning

I originally posted this in the iDVD forum, since it seems to be an iDVD issue, but since no one answered I thought I would try here:
I made a 10-minute video in iMovie '09 and burned it to a disc using iDVD 7.0.4.
The movie itself is completely silent with the exception of music I added. To achieve the silence, I brought the volume level down to zero on all the clips. I then added the music tracks.
When I preview the movie in iMovie, it looks and sounds great. But after I burn the disc using iDVD and watch it, I notice that at a few sections lasting a few seconds near the end, you hear what sounds like camera noise. It's as if the muted volume became unmuted for a few seconds here and there, and you hear what sounds like the camera humming or other unidentifiable white noise.
This only happens on the finished DVD. In iMovie (before burning), the sounds are not there. I checked all the volume levels on all the affected clips, and they are all at zero.
Note that I am only describing it as camera noise because that's what it sounds like. I have no evidence that it is camera noise.
Can anyone help me get rid of this noise that's ruining my movie? Thanks.

    John,
In a late-night stupor I decided to double-check those altered clip speeds.  Sure enough, a few of them were not kosher!  Err, I mean, not presets.  I tweaked them to preset levels, and voila!   No more mysterious noise!
This was quite unlike the problem I had last year that you helped me with--in that case, the manifestation of using non-presets was that at a certain point in the video, the audio tracks became completely disengaged from the video. So you'd have people moving their lips silently and then you'd hear their words 10 seconds later.
Makes you wonder if they fixed this particularly annoying glitch for iMovie '11?!

I was informed that I needed to use After Effects to "mask" or blurr out sections of movie clips saved in windows media format.
I have the movie clip in composition, I see the effects and presets drop box on the lower right.
How do I insert the text blocks to mask certain areas of the movie clip?

  • After burning to dvd, using idvd, movie stops on frame but audio continues

After creating imovie which works perfectly, and also after trasferring to idvd works perfectly, i have problems when playing back dvd after burning to disc. The movie stops but the audio continues. I altered the clip but same thing happened in next clip after next burn. I don't think its a corrupt clip, but maybe something to do with WHEN it occurs in the movie. Any suggestions? After 4 goes and many hours burning I am stumped!

    Hi Tomma1
And welcome to apple discussions. It's good you chose to use 16 bit audio for all of your source material. And assuming this is accurate info .... From what I can tell, you are doing nearly everything correctly. However let me ask you a few questions.
    1. Are you using the boot volume (the hard drive where iDvd and Leopard are actually located) to encode your dvd (yes/no)?
    2. More importantly, does the disc image also go out of sync when played thru apple's dvd player app? or does it only happen on the burned dvd-r?
    3. Are you using Verbatim Dvd-R or an alternate brand? if it's the latter, then for troubleshooting purposes while on this forum; please use Verbatim Dvd-R. (it helps us eliminate additional / possible variables). Thereafter feel free to use the media that works best for you and your mac.
    4. Have you tried an alternate encoding setting other than pro quality setting? and do you get the same results?

  • How can I burn more than 1 movie to a DVD when there is room on the disc for it. Premiere wants to overwrite once 1 movie is burned to the disc

How can I burn more than 1 movie onto a DVD? Once 1 movie is burned successfully to the disc, I try to burn another movie and Premiere wants to overwrite the first movie. One movie is 1.2 GB, second is 2.3; so there is room on a 4.7 GB DVD-RW.

What you report is what it is.
Each burn to of Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc results in the disc containing one OpenDVD Folder and one VIDEO_TS Folder.
Only one VIDEO_TS Folder can be put on a DVD-VIDEO disc even when Premiere Elements is not involved. I have seen that written about online, and I have
never found a way to overcome what seems to be basic behavior description of DVD-VIDEO..
Premiere Elements will allow you to write to a disc with content already on it, but only after you give the OK for erasing the disc content before going ahead
    with the burn to.
If you have several movies, one possibility is to build a Timeline with the movies, use stop markers, and setup disc menus according so that the viewer
can selectively watch the movies. More on that later if wanted.
Any questions or need clarification, please ask.
    Thank you.

  • GPRM Button scripts work in Simulate, but not after burning

    Hello everyone:
I have a question regarding GPRM-based buttons and scripting menu navigation. My scripts work perfectly in DVD Studio Pro's simulate mode, but after building and formatting a DVD, the scripts do not function properly on a set top box, in Apple DVD Player, or when playing from the Video TS folder. The scripts were based off of a tutorial by Hal MacLean at dvdstudiopro.co.uk.
Essentially, I have one track which is accessed via a Main Menu or a Chapters Menu. There is an animation that plays at the head of each menu, so menu has a loop point. The user should return to the correct screen, the correct button should be highlighted, and the menu should jump to the loop point. All of these things happen in simulate mode, but after burning, the loop point is ignored: The correct menu and buttons are highlighted, but the menu plays from the beginning. Here is how the project is laid out:
From the main menu, if the user chooses Play Movie, the following script plays:
    mov GPRM 0, 1
    Jump Feature
From the main menu, if the user chooses Chapters, the following script plays:
    mov GPRM 0, 0
    Jump Chapters Menu
Each of the chapter buttons is assigned to the start of a scene. The feature's menu call is assigned to the following script:
    mov GPRM 1, SPRM 8
    div GPRM 1, 1024
    Jump Main Menu(Loop) [GPRM 1] if (GPRM 0 = 1)
    Jump Chapters Menu(Loop) [GPRM 1]
I was able to make the menus behave properly by writing the scripts this way:
    mov GPRM 1, SPRM 8
    div GPRM 1, 1024
Jump Main Menu Script [GPRM 1] if (GPRM 0 = 1)
Jump Chapters Menu Script [GPRM 1]
    Main Menu Script:
    Jump Main Menu(Loop)
    Chapters Menu Script:
    Jump Chapters Menu (Loop)
But, although the user is returned to the correct menu and the loop point, now only the default button is highlighted.
Has anyone run into the same issues? Can anyone see any flaws in my scripts, or have any suggests? i would really appreciate any thoughts you all have. Thanks for your time!

Do you have any pre scripts atached to the menus? I was having the same problems as you and found that pre scripts and GPRMs don't play nice (at least in DSP). Removing the pre scripts solved my issue.

  • Pixelated images after burning

A friend of mine is using iDVD to create a slideshow of some photos. The photos look great, and after burning, when playing on either tv's or even other computers, no matter the screen size, all the images, as well as the text that pops up, is all pixelated. But on her computer, they look fine.
She is using RAW images, could this be the problem? She has tried burning for both Widescreen and Standard, with no fix.
I told her to use jpegs, haven't heard back if that worked or not, but thought I'd ask.
    Thanks!
    Jordan

You gave your friend excellent advice. Most Jpegs will work fine. If you wish to add RAW image files as well then I'd suggest doing so to the dvd-rom section of the dvd (and there is a preference you can select within iDvd that will automatically do this for you).

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • After burning cd from iTunes the end tracks distort

after burning cd from iTunes 11.04 the end tracks distort upon playback

Art,  there is nothing about an iTunes upgrade that would modify the song files in any way, but stranger things have happened.  If the same effect is occurring on a different computer, there is something suspicious.
Make a new playlist with the same tracks in reverse order and burn it.  Does the distortion appear on the same tracks in their new position?  Or does it move to the tracks that are now the higher numbers?

  • After burning a slide show, I get a skip in audio

After burning a slide show, II get a skip in the audio about every 5 min. of run time.  I imported the pictures from i photo and the music from an itunes play list. When I play the entire thing in preview it runs fine with no problems, but after burning to a dvd, I get a skip every 5 min.  I burned to hp DVD-R (16x) and Memorex DVD-R (16x).  Still the skip.  I have burned to Best preformance, High Quality and Professional Quality.  I have even slowed the burn time to 4x.  Still the skip.  I noticed the bar at the bottom of the screen always reads 5 min. for the audio duration and when it goes back to 0 is when it skips.   The run time when I put the cursor on the audio well reads the correct 3min:35sec.

SlideShow function in iDVD - is limited to 99 photos per show.
Creating the SlideShow in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - doesn't limit this but offers 100% control over process (audio and transitions)
Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - will degrade picture quality as they only deliver every second line over to iDVD.
I never use "Share to iDVD" in any iMovie version.
    • iMovie up to HD6 - Just close it and import movie project from within iDVD
    • iMovie'08 to 11 - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD) will give as good quality as they can do

  • Poor audio after burning

    Hi there,
Hope someone can help me with this...
I have made a SD DVD by converting my uncompressed quicktime files through compressor to gain MPEG2 video files and AC3 audio files.
Everything looks and sounds great when I simulate everything, but after burning the audio sounds really clunky. The fades in and out don't work at all and it really doesn't sound good at all.
In the compressor settings I put normalisation off (to -31) so not sure why this is happening, especially as all seems to be working fine when everything is simulated...
Could anyone offer any suggestions to fix?
    Thanks
    Matty

    Take a look here
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/compressor.mov
and in the second half there are settings. Make sure Preprocessing is set to "None" as in the first image below. The other settings usually also help prevent glitches, audio rate (160/192 etc) can change a needed. Also, how were you listening to the audio? Computer? Television? (I have one tv that is bad for audio)

  • Button Rollovers not Appearing after burning

    Hello,
Need some help. I created a DVDSP project with multiple menus and multiple tracks. Everything has been connected correctly, along with using a standard Overlay (white when you rollover, yellow when you select). All end jumps are fine, in fact in Simulator, it's picture perfect.
The problem is when I burn the DVD and test, I cannot see where my activate button is. I cannot see either on a Mac in DVD Player or in a stand alone DVD Player.
Is there a setting I'm missing to make the tracks (buttons) viewable in each Menu?
For example, Menu 2 has 6 tracks. When I select Menu 2, there is no white box to tell me where I am.
In Simulator it's a snap, work perfectly. After burning it's guess where you are...
    Please help!
    Thanks
    Dan

OK - so you have the background as m2v - that's fine. Did you remember to create an overlay file? It is this that will give colour to the rollovers...
A dash, underline, arrowhead, dot, splodge or whatever is normal to see on menus as buttons are selected. These shapes are in the overlay (actually a part of the subpicture stream) and are shown when the button is selected. At all other times they are transparent. In your case, if you don't want an underline, you need to copy the text in the background footage into an overlay file.
An overlay is simply a still image (usually a pict, not JPG - they are not good to use) which is the same size as your video format (720x480, etc) It is mostly white and only has the shapes that you wish to appear as the rollover - in your case some text. You can either do it in grayscale or use colour - the colours get 'mapped' in DVDSP and for ease, use grayscale.
To line up the words you want, take a still form the background movie and use this as a guide in photoshop. Hide that layer when exporting your pict file.
When you import into DVDSP and add it to your menu you will then be able to colour the text as you roll over it. Without an overlay file you are left using the built in text tools, and yes, they can look very blocky. IMO, by far the best look is achieved when you don't use text as he highlight, but use some other shape instead, usually alongside the text somehow. It's a personal preference, and I'm sure you've got ideas of your own!

I am unable to restore a rented movie after Changing out my iPad for a new one. All music and books were restored easily

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!!
