Block Subnets or IP Address on connected network

I have a wrt54g2 connected to an existing network.  wrt54g2 network = 192.168.1.0, existing network = 192.168.2.0.  So the connection is working perfect and both can connect to the internet. And also, the 192.168.1.0 network can see the 192.168.2.0 network which is the problem.  Does anyone know if there is a way to block an entire subnet with this router?  I want 192.168.1.0 to be able to just pass thru the 192.168.2.0 to get to the internet but block from seeting any other network.

Thanks guys... @gv unfortunately i cant just swap my routers... its not that easy... its sad to see that this cant be done on this model.  It just seems like thats the way of linksys making their money by having to pay for more "feature rich" routers.  My final solution was to flash my router with dd-wrt then... create the route to pass thru the network to the internet.. but.... create a firewall rule to block all traffic to the trusted network.  Works like a charm.  Thanks for your replies.

I want to be able to totally block the FaceTime functionality in my home network so my 4 kids aren't using the Facetime feature- It was easy for Skype just had to enter the work Skype on my Router Security list- and it denies access. I would like to do this at the router level for FaceTime? Only site I find in init.ess.apple.com - is this the startup site for Facetime?   Does anyone know a site I can block, hostname or IP address that the FaceTime application uses? I would presume so, but it might be worth your while to experiment and play around with different combinations to see if you can block FaceTime while keeping Game Center open.  Good luck!

'"Connection Failed" : The server "rrnas01" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again' message keeps displaying whenever I try to open any Adobe CS5 applications (except for Adobe Acrobat Pro). It displays until I click "OK" about 15-20 times or so and then will finally let my program open.
I have tried deleting files within my Library/Preferences folder and turning off/deleting login items within my system preferences as other forums suggested but nothing happened. Spending 3.5 hours on the phone with Adobe and completely uninstalling and then reinstalling the entire CS5 Master Collection didn't work either.
Also, it may be helpful to know that my programs worked fine for about three weeks then when we got internet and changed the password (the join, not the adminstrative password) with the wireless network "ScubaSteve" (which I've used with no problems at my old apartment) it started acting up. I have never seen "rrnas01" before so I don't know at all where it came from. I also installed the free 30 day trial of Suitcase Fusion 3 recently, but thinking that could also be the cause I have uninstalled it, and still no help.
Please help me! And please keep in mind I don't know all the computer lingo that a lot of the people in these forums seem to know. Thanks in advance for ny help you can give me.

It may not be possible .. there is a major bug between Mountain Lion and the TC where the TC disk goes off the radar of the computer.
Lion is also affected but not as badly.
7.6.4 seems worse than earlier firmware.. so back to 7.6.1 or 7.5.2 if that is possible.
Obviously that is not a solution for a later Gen5 TC.
Reset to factory after the firmware downgrade. .use all network names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
If the TC is the main router set the dhcp to a very short lease time.. eg 30min.. and see how it goes, or try a longer lease like 99days.
I prefer the very short lease but response has been mixed.
Use ethernet not wireless.. ethernet is always more reliable and stable than wireless.
And last .. a nightly electric timer that powers off every night at midnight for 1min.. would not be the first device we have suggested a fix that amounts to beat the unit to the punch by forcing it to reboot since it is unstable.

  • Netsh does not work to set IP address of "Wireless Network Connection"

    On Windows 7 Professional
This set of commands work for configuring the "Local Area Connection"
netsh interface ip set address name="local area connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
netsh interface ip set dns name="local area connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="local area connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2
BUT for the WiFi connection, this command errors with this message "ELEMENT NOT FOUND"
netsh interface ip set address name="Wireless Network Connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
BUT the 2 following dns commands DO work for the Wifi Connection.
netsh interface ip set dns name="Wireless Network Connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="Wireless Network Connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2

    I FOUND A SOLUTION
I manually renamed the interface from "Wireless Network Connection" to "Wifi"
Then when I use "WiFi" in the command line, I no longer get the
    ELEMENT NOT FOUND error.
I have no idea why renaming the interface works . . as shown on original post above, "set dns name" command worked without the name change, but the "IP set Address" did not work.
Anybody know what this is about ?

This means that your Mac is not seeing your WinBox, either by IP address (a series of four sets of three numbers which might look something like this: 192.168.001.010) or by name (usually a SMB connection, which would look something like this: 'smb://winboxname' where 'winboxname' is the name of your WinBox).
Typically this means that you were connected by IP, and the target's IP address has changed.
when I try to access my Windows computer on my home network. I never had problems before...
You probably have DHCP enabled on your home net, and your WnBox's IP address has changed because its old lease expired. That kind of thing is why you should set up your net to either have fixed IP addresses or to reserve a specific IP for a specific machine, or you should use the smb name instead of the IP.
I don't understand why this message suddenly appeared keeping me from accessing the shared folder on my XP based computer.
See above. If you want to connect by IP address, you'll need to know the WinBox's IP. Go to your Start menu, select the 'Run' box, type 'cmd', hit Enter. You'll get the Windows terminal. In the terminal type 'ipconfig/all'. You'll see the IP address (and the MAC address, useful if you want to set up a reserved IP address). Ensure that the Mac is connecting to that IP. (enter 'smb://theIP' in the network connection box.)
If you want to connect by name, you'll need to know the WinBox's name. Right-click on 'my computer', select 'properties'. Click on the 'computer name' tab. There it is. Use 'smb://computername' in the network connection box.
    Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to set up my Time Machine, but I get this message: The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again. how to resolve?

Did you reboot the TC? That is always the first step.
Reboot the whole network if that is not enough.
If you still have issues.. come back to us but generally the best way is to factory reset the TC and start over.
We need a bit more info on the whole network layout and what OS you are running. What model TC you have??

IPHONE 5:  can't receive calls and random error messages, such as "could not activate cellular data network" and "no connection - network unavailable, please connect to wifi or cellular network."  This occurs even when signal strength or wifi is operational, and it does not matter whether wifi is on or off.  ATT went through the standard protocol - resetting network, resetting sim card, etc.  No changes.  Other phones working fine in same region with same carrier.  Apple's solution is to restore software, but haven't gone there yet.  Anyone successfully addressed this/these issues?

I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

  • How to deal with the automatic 6to4 addresses in the network

As we use public IPv4 address in our network, each computer automatically gets an 6to4 address. I understand after the World IPv6 Lauch, these computers may use the 6to4 address to talk to IPv6 enabled websites through the free and unmanaged 6to4 gateways on internet. This may cause unmanaged connectiviy issues. How to prevent this? How would you deal with this? Is there a way to stop these computers to get the automatic 6to4 addresses?
    Thanks.

I know this may not be the answer you're looking for...
But what about considering implementing IPv6 within your network? (dual-stack)
When the computers have native IPv6 connectivity, they should always prefer using the native IPv6 connection rather than any of the tunneling mechanisms such as 6to4.
Instead of looking at this as a "unmanaged" problem, look at this as "managed" connectivity service.
So by enabling IPv6 within your network, you get two things done.
    1) Your network steps into the future.
    2) Your clients (managed and unmanaged) will have native connectivity to both IPv4 and IPv6 resources, just like you do with IPv4-only resources today, and then you don't have to worry too much about 6to4.

  • SG200-08 Loosing MAC addresses of connected devices

I have a SG200-08 Switch that has in the last month been acting up with certain types of traffic.  On June 7, 2013 I installed the 1.0.6.2 firmware upgrading from 1.0.5.1.  Updating the firmware has not helped.
Last week Tuesday a server that was connected to that switch disappeared from the network, looking at the trouble I had to reboot the server and traffic began to flow.  After rebooting the server I found only 1 of 2 MAC addresses from the 1 NIC showing up on the port.
Today I have a Xerox Workcenter connected to the switch on another port and while working on changing settings on the device I stopping being able to reach the device, could not even ping it.  I went into the switch port showed active, but no MAC address found in the dynamic table for that port. After rebooting the switch I could reach the Xerox again.
I rebooted the switch on Friday near the end of the day and it was doing better till this morning, all MAC addresses for connected devices were showing up OK.  Is the device defective?  It had been working OK previously, it is connected to another switch on port 1, and that shows a proper table of dynamic MAC addresses.  In both cases of loosing a device it was being used not dormant or in any kind of low power mode.

    Dear Michael,
Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
    Based on the symptoms; SG200 working fine before, it seems to work ok after reboot, and latest firmware already installed.  It seems to me like a hardware failure but still, in order to confirm, it would be a good idea to restore to factory conditions and configure it manually again.  Just in case that does not help I suggest you to contact the Small Business Support Center for further assistance;

  • Live CD "connect: Network is unrechable"

    Hello Guys,
I'm having trouble installing Arch on a small NAS. I'd like to connect it to some repositories and download a couple packages but can't. Something is broken with how Arch connects to my network.
The NAS sports a SuperMicro X7SPA-H, a Mini-ITX mobo that has two gigabit ethernet adapters. According to lspci, the proper modules are e1000e and they are loaded.
Using either ethernet port, I get an IPv4 address: 192.168.0.112 or 192.168.0.113. When I try to ping 192.168.0.1, I get connect: Network is unreachable. For pinging domain names, I get host unreachable. I've rebooted and tried setting up the network multiple times, alternating the ethernet port used.
I've seen that using ifconfig, each network interface gets an IPv6 address. 99% of the time I do not see an IPv4 address. Only once did I see eth0 display an IPv4 address, but the IPv4 address disappeared after running ifconfig again. I have not ever seen eth1 show an IPv4 address through ifconfig. Another strange thing is that after running dhcpcd eth0, killing it, and running dhcpcd eth1, I see the same IPv6 address in the ifconfig output for both network interfaces. The same thing happens when running and killing and running dhcpcd in the opposite order.
Any ideas? I could sure use some.
    Thanks!

    Gcool,
Thank you for the reply. I hope this output is useful.
Since I can't copy and paste directly from the screen, I'll show the nic entries in lspci -k:

  • Log connection attempts and source IP address for connections that fail/timeout on RADIUS

How can I log the connection attempts and source IP address for connections that fail RADIUS authentication?  I'm using RD Gateway on 2012 R2 in conjunction with Azure Multi-Factor Authentication Server on another 2012 R2 server.  When a user fails
multifactor authentication or the authentication times out, all I get is Security event 6273 on the RD Gateway that the radius server did not process the request, and only the radius server's IP is logged.  There's nothing logged in TerminalServices-Gateway\Operational
because the TS Gateway hasn't yet processed the connection attempt (all auditing options for RD Gateway are enabled).  The MFA/Radius Server is only logging the connection from the TSGateway - it doesn't know the original client's IP address.
I'm looking for the equivalent of an IIS log - somewhere the RD Gateway should log the initial HTTPS connection attempt and the source IP address of the client.  I need to be able to track down potentially fraudulent login attempts.

  • Firewall blocking mDNSResponder data port 5353 on office network

    Hi All,
Is there a way to allow mDNSResponder through the firewall???
I had a similar problem a while back and during one startup the firewall asked if I wanted to allow mDNSResponder and I said yes. But now the window does not come up. I have added itunes to the list of specific apps which also include: Safari.app, ntpd, Executor.app, LogMeIn.app, nmblookup, nmbd, krb5kdc, qmasterd, NetAuthAgent.app, iPhoto.app, Screen Sharing.app, RealPlayer.app and quitTime Player.app.
    Am I missing something?
It seems to be related to port 5353 being blocked by my apple firewall set at "Set acess for specific services and applications". As you can see below it is doing it for my computer and others

I can see where the firewall would might block other computers but am I to assume my computer is trying to talk to itself and being denied?
    Thanks for your ideas
More stuff below that I don't understand:

Well, it wasn't blocking anything (other than Bonjour) to begin with, so what's the diff? If your Mac gets taken over, it will be via one of those many server apps you are running for which you've punched holes in your firewall. But if you remove them from the firewall, they don't work. So what is the point of the firewall again?
