Block text spam on usb720 or I am going to cricket

I have a usb720 internet modem.  I do not EVER text with this modem.  EVER.  I am getting text spammed.  I have to pay for every text I receive.  Verizon tells me I am unable to block texts with this modem without upgrading my account.  I say BULL.  This amounts to extortion.  Either verizon gets paid from me receiving unsolicited text spam, or verizon gets paid for me to upgrade my account.  Make it stop or I am going to cricket.

Thank you, everyone, for your ideas.
"Call and Message Blocking" is not available for my device.  I am not able to block specific numbers without upgrading to "usage controls."  Usage controls cost $4.99/month.  1000 texts/month costs $10.00/month, or paying as I go costs $0.20/text.  I haven't yet received more than 25 spams in one month, so the cost of the spam has not yet totaled more than $4.99.  Simply paying the for the spam would cost less than controlling it.
Changing numbers won't help because the bots trolling numbers will still hit the new number, just as they have been with this one.  It seems ridiculous to me that texting would be an option for a modem at all.  Texting is a win/win for Verizon, and I get screwed.  It should be a simple thing for Verizon to disable texting and be done with it.
SammueIP, please friend me and I will DM you.
Thanks, again.

    Then call ATT.

  • Are blocked texts still "billed" by the carrier?

My mother does not a texting plan because she never texts and only receives texts from spammers. While I know that the blocked texts from spammers will not appear on her iPhone, will they be counted by the carrier (in this case AT&T) as an incoming text message, even if it is not technically delivered?   Obviously it will save her the headache of receiving unwanted texts, but will she still be billed for them?

She can forward them to AT&T directly at short code 772-6.  She will then get an automated reply asking her to reply with the senders "sent from" address (these texts with AT&T are all free as well).  If they respond that they cannot identify the sender (happens often with short codes), she can call customer care at the number in the text and ask them to block that short code for her account.
Since she is paying per text, I think that reporting throught the automated SPAM report system will also automatically credit her account for the billed spam messages, but you might want to call AT&T and confirm that actually happens.

  • Text Spam to VZW Access Manager - @ $.20 a pop

I was surprised when I booted up Access Manager today to find a "..Great Deal for Home Mortages.."   and I just found out it cost me 20 cents to receive it.    How that happened I don't know because I don't even know my Verizon USB modem number, much less given it out to anybody else.
Now this brings up several points:
    1.  Why isn't/can't a technically savvy company like Verizon screening out these obvious spams?
    2.  Why isn't blocking Text Messaging a do-it-yourself option in Access Manager itself?
    3.  Why aren't they answering their <BLANK> 'ing 800 922 0202 phone number!   -the only way I've found on these forums to block text messaging.   (maybe because everybody is now trying to do exactly what I'm trying to do?)
    Note: re-posted from another topic.

This website is amazingly frustrating trying to find the details of my own plan.  To answer a few of my own points I must conclude it's deliberate on Verizon's part to keep us in the dark regarding one of the their income generators.
    boilerplate:  http://support.vzw.com/terms/products/messaging.html
OK;  When I receive messages from Verizon they're listed as "A Free Message from Verizon".  Not the case with spam.  My account balance is keeping a count of my non-free messages -(haven't been billed yet)
Another "feature" offered is "Unlimited texting from mobile to mobile" - in other words from one Verizon number ONLY to another Verizon number.   If we were truely unlimited this "feature" would be redundant.
Lastly we (broadband users) are offered paid upgrades for additional texting loads.  Look over these plans:

  • Block texts from iTouch @textnow.me account

How do I block texts from an account from and iTouch with @textnow.me address?

http://verizonsafeguards.com/block-unwanted-text-messages-on-any-verizon-wireless-phone provides step by step instructions to block text based upon point of origin.
Spammers can send text messages to your mobile phone.  At Verizon, we do a lot to prevent spam and now there’s a way to increase that protection.  It’s simple and free.
Verizon Wireless uses sophisticated anti-spamming technology to protect you from spam, but, for those messages that get through, consider the following steps:
WHEN MOBILE SPAM IS FROM A MOBILE NUMBER
Verizon Wireless Mobile Phone Text Blocking Instructions
Visit My Verizon at a Verizon Wireless Store kiosk, on your phone or on your PC.
Then enter your User ID and Password and select the Sign In Button. If you do not have a User ID and Password, select “Register”. You will need your phone to register as it will send an access code to your phone to ensure you are the owner of the phone. ...

  • How to block text messages but not calls from a specific number

I want to block text messages from my father but not his phone calls. Is there a way to do this? I have an iPhone 5, but don't want to upgrade to IOS7 yet.
    Thanks!

You have a fantastic phone, joy3141. I double checked features for the iPhone 5 and confirmed there's not a way to block messages from a specific contact without blocking calls too. Our Call & Message Blocking http://vz.to/MqEgqB is a great way to block unwanted contact from specific numbers, but it would block both calls & messages. If your dad is on your account and you're hoping to block all of his text messages to or from anyone, there is a text message block available at www.vzw.com/serviceblocks you can add to his line.
    Thank you

  • Is there anyway to manage my contacts or an app so that I can temporarily block text messages at certain times of the day?

    Hi,
I am wanting to block text messaging that I sometimes receive from clients after hours, and I want to know is there an app like there is for android phones that has lists that you can create so certain people can be sent an auto reply when they send you a message?
I don't want to block the numbers completely just at weekends and/or after hours and I still want to be able to receive phone calls from those numbers as an option.
I am on the Vodafone NZ network
    Thanks

You can Remote Lock his iPad with Find My iPad using a computer at whatever time you like.

  • 50%+ Webmail & Outlook Sent messages blocked as spam in last week. HELP!!!

I'm having many of my Outlook and Web mail messages blocked as spam. More than 50% of  Message contents on web page says:

Why is the above considered spam?
I have tried changing port to 587 and have finally been able to send info to the spam web page.  Hopefully they can correct this soon.  I never had this problem with Comcast.  Hope to resolve ASAP or will be canceling all my server with verizon.  Thanks for any suggestion!

The best way to resolve this issue is to send the message as an attachment to [email protected] so the message an be reviewed and the filters updated. Unfortunately, you won't get a response back about the status/result of this process. The filter is scanning the content of your message for anything that "looks" like spam.
Some troubleshooting steps you can try on your own:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.
If the Subject line of your message has a whole bunch of "Fwd: Fwd: Re: Fwd:" try removing some of them.
If a forum member gives an answer you like, give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem.

If you are trying to block text messages from a ten digit number and you have the ten digits number you can add the free Call & Messaging Block to your line. With this block you can block up to 5 numbers.
Call and Message Blocking are free features that assist consumer postpaid customers in blocking unwanted calls and messages from specific numbers on a short-term basis. Customers can manage it themselves and make changes whenever necessary by accessing www.vzw.com/spamcontrols.
The number will remain blocked for 90 days. If you need to continue blocking the number after the 90 days you will need to add the number back to the block list.
If you are trying to block text messages from a short code number you can add the free Premium SMS block to your line via your My Verizon account. You can also reply to the message you are receiving with the word STOP. You will receive a confirmation text advising that you have been unsubscribed from the Premium SMS.
    Thanks
    John
PLEASE consider this a feature request -- we NEED to be able to block SMS by 5- and 6-digit codes, not just 10-digit phone numbers.  Since many of us pay by the message, not being able to block individual "Premium SMS" services is probably something you legally need to provide.

  • TS2755 is there a way to block texts from specific numbers to imessage with out turning imessage off?

is there any way to block text from specific numbers to imessage without turning imessage off?

Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
Select the right facing arrow in a blue circle next to the email address this girl is sending iMessage to and select Remove This Email.
If she has your cell phone number, she can switch to sending iMessage to that and there will be nothing you can do, but removing the email address will prevent you from receiving an iMessage addressed to that email address.

  • How to enter the data into data block text item which has an LOV associated

    Hi,
I have a data block, one of the data block text item has an LOV assigned. when I populate this text item using the LOV and do "execute_query", it is taking the value in the text item and adding it to the search criteria, but when I enter a value manually in that text item and do "execute_query" it is showing me an alert(which I created) "Please enter a value".
My question is, why is not taking the value that I enter manually? Looks like before executing the query, this field is getting empty
How to avoid this problem and make sure that the value entered in the text item is added in the where clause of the query?
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance
    R.G

    Problem solved!
Before doing execute-query, all the text items are being cleared,so I used a global variable to store that value
    Thanks anyway
