Block USB Bus Controller
Hi,
How can I block a USB Bus controller?
I'm testing EPM with a few USB devices and am unable to block a USB
Business Card reader.
The device is being detected as "Corex CardScan 500".
Also, is it possible to log such devices?
Thanks

Missing Drivers for USB Controllers (2), SM Bus Controller, and PCI Device
Just got this laptop from my grandparents, and they whiped the OS off if it and did a reinstall with windows 7 64 bit. When it reinstalled it was missing many of the drives, most of which I've been able to find, but I still have four left that I can't find anywhere. When I looked on hp's site there is no driver that I saw for any of these. Are you using drivers from your Support page? The AMD graphics driver usually has sm bus and usb drivers. The PCI device is Realtek Card Reader, also in the list. You can also order Recovery Media which reinstalls Windows and all drivers & software. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/model/5210864#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1 Too bad your grandparents didn't use HP Recovery Manager installed on the laptop to reinstall Windows. That would have prevented this.

HP Pavilion SleekBook 15-119wb USB, SM BUS Controller Driver
Hello everyone,
I have recently downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7 and I have having trouble in regards to finding the USB controller driver, and SM Bus Controller driver for my HP Pavilion SleekBook 15-119wb. I have tried everything so if anybody could please help me with this issue I would be very grateful.
Specs: HP Pavilion 15-119wm SpecsHi:
Normally, the usb 3.0 drivers do not install on your model after installing the above chipset driver. Only the smbus controller installs.
Use these two drivers to install the usb 3.0 controllers, and between all of the above, you should be all set.

HP 10-F001UA - SM BUS CONTROLLER & UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (USB) CONTROLLER - WINDOWS 7
I instaling my device with windows 7, but i missing SM BUS CONTROLLER , UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (USB) CONTROLLER & unknow driver, could you give me the link for that driver?
Hi:
I cannot find that model number anywhere.
Does it have an Intel or AMD processor?
If it has an Intel processor is it a 3rd or 4th generation core processor.
Also, please do the following and I will post the link to the driver for the unknown device once I figure out what it is...
Go to the device manager, find the Other Devices category, and click on the Unknown Device needing drivers.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Unknown Device window.
Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters you see in the window. -
Hello,
I'm trying to use a Prologix USB GPIB controller to control GPIB
instruments, and I would like to have a virtual serial (VISA) port for
*each instrument*, as is the case with a normal GPIB controller with a
standard NI driver. However this is not what the Prologix driver
provides -- it provides a single VISA virtual serial port for the
entire controller. To address the instrument with GPIB address 11,
you first send "++addr 11" to the serial port, and then you're talking
to instrument 11. However, this means I have to change all old
Labview programs.
Is it possible to create a "wrapper" function of some kind that will
define a virtual serial (VISA) port for each *instrument* on the
controller? For example, to talk to GPIB instrument 11, call it
ASRL3::11::INSTR, each time it is written to it would have to write to
the virtual serial port of the controller, say ASRL3::INSTR, first "+
+addr 11" and then the command that is sent to it.
A clearer explanation of the difference (i.e. incompatibility), and of
my objective:
1) A normal GPIB controller with NI driver: I go to the NI
Measurement & Instrumentation Panel, under GPIB, and Scan for
Instruments; all the live instruments show up; subsequently when I
want to use Labview programs that use VISA ports, the VISA drop boxes
allow me to choose a different port for each instrument, e.g.
"GPIB0::11::INSTR", "GPIB0::12::INSTR" would be instruments at
addresses GPIB 11 and GPIB 12.
2) The Prologix GPIB controller that plugs into a USB port: In
Labview you get a *single* VISA virtual serial port, ASRL3::INSTR, for
the entire GPIB0 controller. Therefore to address GPIB instrument 11,
you write "++addr 11" to the virtual serial port ASRL3::INSTR, and
then you are communicating with device 11, so you can write and read
ASRL3::INSTR to talk to that device. Then to talk to device GPIB 12,
you write "++addr 12" to the same VISA port, and then you are talking
to that device. The problem is that this requires recoding all
Labview code, whereas I would like to be able to use the same program
either with a normal or with a Prologix GPIB controller. Therefore, I
would like to create code that scans the controller for all GPIB
attached devices and creates VISA ports for all. Such ports, when
written to, would have to first write "++addr DEVICENUM" to
ASRL3::INSTR (i.e. the port of the GPIB-USB controller) where
DEVICENUM is the GPIB address of the instrument corresponding to that
port, and then would have to do a write or read or whatever function
is being done on that instrument VISA port.
I haven't figured out if it is possible to do this easily. Help and
pointers on where to look for hints would be much appreciated. Many
thanks!
MilosMy first impression is that if you don't want to make any changes at all to existing programs is that the wrapper you need is one around VISA. You would need to intercept all of the calls into the NI VISA driver. If you create your own visa32.dll and in there, change the addressing and then call the real VISA driver, you might (repeat, might) get something to work. If this would even work, you still might find that you have to make significant changes anyway. The serial connection is going to be considerably slower, and interface specific functions such as service request handling, bus triggering of multiple instruments, etc., would be difficult to impossible. This would be a lot of work, imho, to just save a couple of hundred dollars over a real GPIB controller. I've seen this Prologix device before and have even used NI's RS-232->GPIB controller. The Prologix intended use to me seems to me more for a hobbyist or very casual user. Of course, I'm used to having multiple GPIB instruments worth 10s/100s of thousands of dollars and the cost of an fully compliant GPIB controller is just lost in the noise.

Can't Install Enhanced USB Host Controller
I keep getting these popups each time that I load windows xp that its found some new hardware for the USB 2. The hardware is the Universal Serial Bus Controller. However it does mention Intel 82801EB USB 2 Enhanced Host Controller -24DD. I let it search for the needed drivers but it never finds them or there is something else wrong. I keep getting "An error occurred during installation of the device. The data is invalid". Whatever in the hell that means!!! Any clues? I'm running the 875P Neo board.
Well the drivers for the other USB drivers were automatically installed when I installed Windows XP. The USB 2 drivers however are not installed for the hardware even though the hardware is recognized. I have the SP1 update installed. Here is what happens: when I load windows this screen comes up:
http://www.angelfire.com/space2/tmoum/newhrdwr.JPG
I press next and after a few seconds (takes longer if the MSI CD is in the CD-rom) and this screen comes up:
http://www.angelfire.com/space2/tmoum/newhrdwr2.JPG
I'm not sure where the drivers for the device are located so I just let windows search for them but this doesn't seem to work.
Here is what my Device Manager looks like:

When I click on the properties of the Universal Serial Bus Controller this is what I see:

Hi,
The USB connection used for connecting to a printer failed. Trying to fix it I removed the Standard USB Host Controller Port_#0001.Hub_#0009 and as a result the device is now marked as "unknown device" with status= error#43.
How can I fix it?
Thanks, Eitan

View Solution.Thank you for the prompt reply. I have followed the following steps (from Microsoft support forum) but it didn't solve the problem:
Lets reinstall the USB Controllers.
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
1. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary.
2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
All usb driver items restored correctly with the exception of one line that still shows "unknown device", with the following details:
Standard USB Host Controller
Port_#0001.Hub_#0009
Error 43

"SM Bus Controller" Driver Won't Load
Hello all, newby here,
Building a new computer(it's been a couple years since the last one) and at the last minute chose a MSI MB over my usual ASUS.
p35 Neo2- FR
Core 2 Quad Q6600, LGA 775, 2.40 GHz
2- 2GB Buffalo Certified DDR2 Dimm, 667Mhz, unbuffered, Non-EEC
PNY NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500, 256Mb
Seagate 250GB sata2 16m
Antec Solo case, sweet!
Antec Truepower Trio, 550 watt, ATX12v v2.2 & EPS12v
Bios AMI V1.1 5/11/2007
Win XP Pro 64
ver. 5.2.3790 SP1 build 3790
So when loading the OS the MSI support CD doesn't support the 64 bit OS, so had to manually load the NIC driver and the sound driver.
but in device mangler there's still one driver that won't load
"SM bus controller"
From within device manager got it to look at the entire MSI support CD but it still won't load, Google is no help either and can't find the P35 chipset drivers at Intel either, I'm guessing this is a chipset driver, the "system management bus controller"?
thanks in advanceQuote from: Frankenputer on 02-December-07, 09:09:58
Here are the Intel Chipset drivers for your board: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1261
It's the last one at the bottom of the page.
How come I didn't see that!! I used the other drivers on that page, dohhh. I got the drivers from the Intel auto loader on their site. After loading them the yellow question mark went away for the SM bus controller but then lost all the USB root hubs and the USB mouse, had to remove and re-install them all with the keyboard. Man this build is a real education. -
USB Host controller missing in device manager
Hello,
I've installed WIN 7 64 bit on my laptop; everything worked fine at the beginning; but after a couple of days, after a system update, all of the 4 USB ports stop working
In device manager there is no USB Host controller entry, and I have four device named "Multifunction device" marked in error
Already tried without success:
- update device driver autosearch online
- uninstall device and reboot; the system can't find proper drivers
- reinstall all drivers from HP driver update utility
- reinstall drivers with Intel driver update utility
- reinstall windows (no reformat)
- other driver search utilities
I can rule out an hardware problem because if I boot from CDROM or even usb keys, they work properly; given this fact, if I reformat the disk probably I could fix the problem I guess, but I prefer avoid this extreme solution, I use this laptop for my job and I have lot of customer network and VPN configured.
ThanksAfter following the Apple instructions on how to install Boot Camp on my MacBook, I had similar problems. I received the following non-functional driver list:
Bluetooth USB Host Controller
Coprocessor
Ethernet Controller
Network Controller
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
I tried running the repair feature from the OSX disc, no help. It may be noteworthy that I installed XP Professional SP3 straight off of an install disc, and did not do the following:
Install SP2
Install Boot Camp 2.1
Update to SP3
I am currently downloading Boot Camp 2.1 and hope that it will solve this problem. If anyone can help, please let me know!
