Block users from downloading from internet

I'm curious as to what everyone is using to block users from downloading certain file types (.exe, msi, zip, bat, etc) from the internet? We had websense, now barracuda for a web filter but have major issues with filtering downloads from the internet. The main issues is filtering SSL sites.

Hello,
The WSA has a feature called Object Filtering which allows admin's to configure access policy parameters to block certain file types from being downloaded through the WSA. To apply the same settings to HTTPS requests the WSA would need to decrypt the request.
I Hope this helps.

"A duplicate file name was specified", why is this poping up and preventing me from downloading from iTunes.

Try looking for and/or deleting incomplete downloads from the the iTunes Media folder. Then try downloading again, so its not resuming or overwriting a previous download.
Apple does have this article that talks about a very similar syncing error -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins.

  • How can i block my iopd from downloading any internet browser from the app store

I would like to make my ipod touch unable to download any kind of internet browser from the app store, while still keeping internet access avalable for apps

There is no way to select just a genre of apps like that.  You can use restriction settings to disable the ability to install apps, and you can disable Safari - that way no active web browser and no ability to download and install any apps.  Apps already installed that use data access will still run just fine.

  • How do I organize a document for users to download from my site?

I need users to be able to download a pdf from my site. I have dragged and dropped a (one page) pdf into a picture frame and I want users to have the ability to download this ... or any other multi-page pdf.

    Thanks.

OK. I've sorted this now. I used .Mac iDisk to hold the doc/file and then hyperlinked to it.

  • Blocking users after migrating from WCS to NCS?

One of our people in our Helpdesk  blocked a user mac because of an alert that said they were using the WiFi in an unsafe manner.  Probably streaming or file sharing.  Anyway when they blocked the mac they noticed that in the older WCS it would ask if you want to block this on all controllers.  The new NCS he said did not have that option that he could find.  So the user just authenticated with the same machine to a new controller which then had to be manually blocked.
I could not find in NCS the option to block the offending mac on all controllers either.  This does not mean it isn’t there?  Can we get a ruling on this? Bug? it worked in WCS.

We have NCS 1.1.0.58 and I believe when we block the Mac from NCS it only blocks if on the controller that it is currently associated to.

  • HT204406 Blocked from downloading from iTunes match for 90 days

I signed my girlfriend into the macbook for her itunes match account and now can sign back in on my account.  cant override the block put on by itunes match to download music to my macbook have to wait 90 days.

So... I'm trying to install OSX Lion and see if that will count as a "new computer". [I have Snow Leopard right now] If I have to I guess I'll try a clean install after that too... Or, does anybody know if I should go straight for a clean install first, and then transfer my files afterwards?
I think the worst part of all this is that the other iTunes account tells me to "Purchase iTunes match" if I switch to it. I was hoping I could at least use that account for 90 days and then switch back, but it won't even let the computer/account that I supposedly "switched" to use iTunes Match without buying it again... That also makes no sense to me. If the account I switched to hasn't even purchased iTunes Match, then how could I have switched to using that library? o.O
All of my music is on an external. There's really no difference between me borrowing a friend's laptop, changing the settings, connecting to the external, and then turning on iTunes Match when I need to (plus, my friend would get a ton of free music in the process if they want to keep them). How exactly does this help Apple? O.o
I'll update if installing OSX Lion helps at all...

  • HT1473 I am having an error on Purchase from ITunes Store in downloading a song with the rest of an album. It is the only song that did not download correctly and nothing works from downloading from already purchased it says (-err = 100000)

Can Someone please help me understand why I just got scammed by Itunes for purchasing a song and not being able to download it because it autmatically makes me download it as the old file that I already purchased instead of rebuying it which is not working either.

I'm very troubled by this issue because I have been purchasing music from the ITunes Store for years but the problem basically is that when I try to buy the one song again it says I have already purchased it so it automatically downloads it when I try to buy it again which continues the same problem and I tried to hide it from the purchase menu and that did not work i unhid it and the problem seems to continue can anyone kindly please help me figure out what I did wrong because I'm sure its ITunes Store's fault on this one.

  • How To Exclude Song or Video From Downloading From Library

I have songs and videos in my Library that I have successfully download to my iPhone in the past. However, I now want to exclude some songs or videos from being downloaded to my iPhone but want to keep them in my Library in case I want to download them again in the future. I thought that I only had to uncheck those songs or videos in the Library list and Sync to my iPhone. However, all the songs and videos still appear on my iPhone. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have sync checked songs and videos selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
Regarding videos, you have options under the Videos tab for your iPhone sync preferences. Chose selected movies selecting the movies in the window below that you want transferred to your iPhone, and deselect the movies you want removed from your iPhone followed by a sync. The same applies under TV Shows.
With Music, you can create an iTunes playlist or multiple playlists. Without having sync checked songs and videos selected, to remove a song from your iPhone remove it from the selected playlist followed by a sync. Or select sync checked songs and videos and uncheck the song in the selected playlist followed by a sync.

  • HT1688 How can I stop photos from downloading from my camera roll into photo folders on my Iphone 4S. They have been downloading on the phone for 2 days.

I took some photos from my camera roll and added them into seperate folders on my Iphone 4S and only some of the photos have downloaded and the rest of the pictures in all of the folders have been downloading for the past 2 days. Even when connected to WiFi it does not stop downloading the pictures into the seperate folders. How can I finish the downloading of the pictures or how can I stop the downloading and try adding them to the folders again?

Your backup contains photos and videos from the camera roll, if you did not sync after that, use the latest backup to restore from: iTunes: About iOS backups and Backing Up, updating, and restoring your iPhone and iPod touch software

  • Download from jsp----

    hi friends!
i am using a jsp for a download of a video file. The download step should be like,
clicking the right mouse button on the link and select,'save target as' to save the file into the computer hard disk.
Here is the place where i have been wall-blocked to proceed further. That is i have to track the user that he clicked and downloaded the specific file. The user i mean is a memeber who logs in and reaches upto the download page.
This tracking is necessary in order that the total file size downloaded for the 24 hours duration does not exceed 1.2GB.If it exceeds when the user clicks one clip he will be served with the message to relog in after 24 hours for further downloads
I am really stuck as how to implement this in the site.I am coming in the second round to the forum, seeking advise/solution to this task. Now i have to launch the site in a weeks time.
Help me please. The implementation of this tracking process is crucial to satisfy the client.
    thanks and regards
    sat

    hi leo_pruna
If your referring to right clicking that can be done anywhere regardless of what country you are in. What you need to do is create a servlet that controls the downloads. If a user right clicks and saves target as and doesn't have rights to download the video then the servlet should forward to an html (JSP) page. At that point if they just saved target as then they should only get the HTML representation and not the video.
Thanks a lot.I really did not understand what u are telling me to do in the above paragraph.
According to my cient demand , the video download is allowed for members only.
To achieve this, i have done the implementation as follows:
    After the user logs in,
When he wants to download a movie he will go to the downloadjsp, where the movie is split into many parts and each part has download link displayed .
When he clicks one of the links, he will be allowed to download through download servlet and the download servlet will ensure his limit and acts accordingly.
The above operation is performed through a left click of mouse button on the download link of download jsp.
but in japan for the video download sites, the download is allowed only by rt clicking and selecting save targer as option. This is as per the law of the country.
what i planned to do now in order that the rt click download opration to be effective is, just let the user to download from the download jsp itself, without going to the download servlet.(this effectively renders me the download without user tracking)
I did not got idea as how to incorporate the servlet way of downloading by rt clicking on the link .that is the reason i have planned to do so.
And now that u have suggested me some solution which will also enable me to track the users through the rt click action with download servlet. The above highlighted part(***) from your reply i can not follow.pl pardon me for saying that.
If u explain to me again the same , i will be able to implement.
will u take pains to explain again
    thanks and regards

  • How to Disable Downloading from Safari?

Hi I am wondering if Safari has an option where you can prevent people from downloading from the internet. Just like IE did if the security settings are set right so downloading will be impossible.
The reason is because recently the Hotel that I am doing my internship had installed 2 brand new iMacs and wanted to prevent guests from downloading files off the internet so is there any way?
    thanks a bunch in advance

There is no option in Safari to prevent downloads, also I could not find any in the Parental Controls area in System Preferences.

  • First direct link in google search causes "Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading"

I've disabled both the Adobe Reader Add-on and the Adobe PDF Link Helper to force IE 8 to open PDF's outside of the browser i.e in the stand alone reader application.
After doing this I did some testing, a google search for "test pdf" produces numerous direct links to pdf files.  If i click any of them it causes IE to display the message bar "Internet Explorer blocked this from downloading files to your computer, click her for options.."  When I click on the message bar, it appears to download the file , then nothing happens.  Next time I click the link it opens in the stand alone reader just fine and so do all PDF files, until the browser is restarted or a new tab is started.
This only seems to happen in IE8.  IE9 doesn't have the problem.
If I open a web page that has a link to a PDF that always work.
Help? I can't roll this out to prod.  Users will get very confused...

You actually trashed the whole Internet Preferences Folder including all your preferences still in there?
Actually, you were suppose to just trash the Internet Preference file/document which is inside the folder.
See if updating to the latest & last version of IE for Mac will help.
    Internet Explorer (Classic) 5.1.7
    Internet Explorer 5.1.7
    Internet Explorer v5.1.7
"WARNING:" Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and is not providing any further security or performance updates.
Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft.
Or, you can try the following w/your older version of IE:
Once a week Go into the system folder>preferences folder & trash the following preferences:
    finder
    ASLM
    PPC Registration Database
Cache.waf-found inside the MS Internet Cache folder
MRJ Cache folder-a new one will be recreated.(If not found go to System folder>Application Support>MRJ Cache folder-trash all you find inside-(DO NOT TRASH THIS FOLDER)
    Download Cache-found inside Explorer Folder
    Downloads.html-found inside Explorer Folder
    History.html-found inside Explorer Folder
Rebuild your desktop w/extensions off. Use Techtool Lite or Trash*Desktop - may delete Finder comments to rebuild your desktop w/extensions off. Does a better job than manually & you avoid all the finger gymnatics. You just have to hold down the shift key to shut off extensions.
Restart to turn the extensions back on again & empty the trash.
    Good luck!
