Blocked after failed update

Hello, Hope you are doing well,
5 or 6 days back i shut down my windows 8 laptop and it started updating. the update went on for about 8 to 10 hours and the machine restarted. on restart it said failed to update and it 'restored.'
the issue is that after this failed update i see a watermark on the left bottom corner that says Activate Windows. i ignored it for a few days, even went to 'PC settings' from the start menu but did not find a way to 'Activate' windows. I hope you are aware
that the windows 8 series isn't very user friendly when it comes to settings menu. so i went through a couple of threads and learnt that my key was blocked.
Help restore or update windows to an active version.
P.S.: I have brought a genuine windows 8 with the laptop from an HP certified dealer in Mumbai. the key was accepted by Microsoft on various occasions until this happened.
also the system was infected by a trojan and malware for about a month. which was removed by running bit-defender.  Need any more info? please solve this issue.

Please repost your problem to the more appropriate Windows 8 Community Forums here...

After failed update of itunes yesterday, now will not run with error message "MSVCR80.dll not found" APSDaemon.exe will not run.  itunes will not now run.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
Are you releasing the home button when you see the connect to iTunes screen? Does iTunes start on its own? If it doesn't - start iTunes yourself.

    5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:

A similar problem to the other posters, my Sony Xperia Z won't start after a failed update attempt. Following the support suggestions on the Sony website (http://www.sonymobile.com/sg/support/faq/w8-walkman-phone/update-software/software-update-failed-ps101/) failed. Solutions posted on this forum thread (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/My-Sony-Xperia-Z-won-t-start-turn-on-after-failed-update-attempt/m-p/401787#M20133) have also failed. When I plug the phone into the wall charger, the LED comes on red, the SONY logo appears on my screen, followed by a message indicating that "The Software update failed. Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again.", and then the phone turns itself off. The cycle repeats itself with no indication that my phone's actually being charged. Since it is unable to charge, plugging the phone into my computer does not trigger the update process to start, so I can't "try again", as the message so helpfully suggests. The computer also does not recognise my phone as being connected despite following the PC Companion's instructions to 1) unplug the device, 2) remove and replace the battery (which I can't do, because the battery is built in), and 3) turn it back on (which, again, I can't do, because the phone won't charge in the first place), before 4) plugging it back into the computer. Please help... Thank you.

  • IPhone 4 in recovery mode after failed update with most recent software (3/25/13), I only have the past 30 days worth of photos and my contacts in iCloud, how do I get the rest of my pictures off of my phone? I have read the apple article already.

Basically headline says it all, my phone is in recovery mode following a failed update through the phone and I want all my photos back.  I have already read the "iOS: Unable to Update or Restore" and it indicates that when restoring through iTunes, you lose all data on the phone. I have checked my iCloud (I am a Windows7 user so uploading does not happen automatically, as I unfortunately just figured out) and it only will upload my past 30 days of photos and contacts, inline with what I've read about the cloud only storing 30 days of your past data. I really would like to get all of my photos off of my phone, I had photostream activated and most were in that stream. Is there anything I can do? I don't know what operating system is on there currently, but I have always updated my phone succesfully until today when this happened, so I'm assuming whatever is most up to date until today is the OS it has. Thank you!

When your phone is in recovery mode, it's like it crashed.  The only way that you can get it out of recovery mode is by restoring, and this erases all your data as well.
You can believe what you wish by "reading all over the internet".  This is Apple's technical support forum.  We do know what we're talking about.
since you have very important photos on your phone, why haven't you been importing them to your computer as soon as possible after taking them?  This is how the phone is meant to be used.  Keeping critical data on only a device which can be easily stolen, dropped and broken is just plain foolish.  Also, did you not back up your phone (as you should be doing with any computer) before attempting any operating system update?  As you've now just painfully learned, updates do not always go as planned.
I'm sorry for your data loss, but let this be a very important lesson.  BTW, when was the last time you backed up your computer?  I'm sure you have important data on your computer.  Hard drives WILL fail.

  • Installer failing after failed update

I ran Software update on my girlfriend's iBook G4 and it failed on the most recent security update and on Safari 3.1.2. I let the computer reboot and went to try it again, but Software Update immediately exists. I then tried to manually download the software packages and install them but installer then crashes. I had to run installer in a terminal to get the following crash report:
    dyld: NSAddImage() error
    dyld: Symbol not found: __ZN3KJS11Interpreter4markEv

What can I do to recover the system?? Safari will not run either ...
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc...

  • Problem after failed update

    Hi everybody,
today after a failed update my Z3 Dual D6633 doesn't restart.
The message 'The software update failed. Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again.' blinking on my screen.
The issue is that PC companion doesn't find my phone. I've tried all my USB ports but still doesn't work.
    Have you any suggestion ?
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.
Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

  • MacBookPro Lion crash, loading during restart after failed updates.

During a restart phase after software updates (IPhoto, ITunes etc)my MacBookPro_Lion is not restarting anymore...just loading without reach login page. Was switched off due to low battery during restart phase after updates downloads. How can I solve it?
    Thanks.

Boot into your Recovery partition (if you can) by holding down the command and R keys whilst booting. Once there elect to resinatll the OS (you may need your Apple ID and password for this). You'll not erase any data, etc., by installing a fresh OS.
Once your OS install is complete, you can restart and go through the update process again, this time remembering not to unplug from mains while the updates are installing.

  • ITunes won't open after failed update, what do I do?

I tried to update my iTunes to the latest version and it failed.  Now when I try to open iTunes I get the error message "The procedure entry point AVCFPlayerItemDurationChangedNotification could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll."  and after I click okay I get another error message that says "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)"  I restarted my computer and it's still the same.  Quicktime opens and runs fine.  I was going to just uninstall and then reinstall it but I don't want to lose all of my music or playlists-- Help! what do I do??

  • IPhone stuck in recovery mode after failed update.

Hi, I have a bad situation here... My iPhone 5 got stuck in recovery mode after I tried to update to iOS 7.1.1 from 7.0.4 and it failed (error code 6). If this was my iPod touch I would just restore it because all I have is music, but this iPhone has all my sisters graduation photos, important photos, important school documents, contacts, app data, videos from concerts. Etc. I was wondering if I could get the photos off the phone before restoring it, because they are important. I know I should've backed up my photos and made a backup of the phone, but I've been really busy with a lot of stuff. So I was just wondering if there is any way to get the photos and app data back. The app data doesn't really matter but the photos do. The device was not jailbroken or hacked in any way.
If you could help, tell me ASAP.

  • HT1688 restoring iphone after failed update

I recently tried to the latest update and then it said i needed to connect it to a computer so i did so and it gets so far and then gives me an error and then disconnects my phone... i then did the hard reset aka home button and on/off button and its frozen on the apple symbol. i couldnt get it to come back up that i needed to connect to itunes. after numerous searches online i got that portion to work but then it would not register on my computer after i got that to work once again it still gave me the error. i took my phone to the local att store and they were unable to help me as well and were saying i was going to have to pay apple $200 for a new iphone! HOW IS THIS MY FAULT?! i followed the normal update and they are saying my hardware is fried! i do not care about gettin my items back bc obviously it was backed up with my appleid but seriously i had to get a whole new phone bc my phone will not work!

Try DFU Mode Restore. If this fails try, DFU Mode Restore on different computer. If this fails ATT could be correct.
DFU Mode Restore of iPhone on computer with iTunes. Here are the steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the power button, keep holding the home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds of holding home button. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. DFU Mode is sometimes difficult to get. So keep trying the steps until you get it. DFU mode is iTunes saying iPhone in Recovery Mode except screen is black, blank.

  • After failed update, stuck at grey screen

My MacBook pro running snow leopard just failed to install some updates, restarted and then stayed on the grey boot screen for ten minutes before I forced a shutdown and subsequent start up.
I tried booting it up in safe mode, resetting the pram and just about every other trick I know. I booted it up in verbose mode, and I keep getting the same messages, first it says something about needing to convert something to launchd. Then after waiting for a few minutes, the thing lists something about a diskOs2 I/O error then stuff about a bad hitrate then it goes to system shutdown false and then back to the diskOs error where it cmrepeats the discOs error until it's turned off.
I'm a college student, so I don't have a car, and the nearest Apple store is 45 mins away, any fixes I could do without going off campus? Any help is appreciated. Also sorry about any bad spelling and punctuation, using
my iPod touch to do this right now, thank god for wifi.

    Hi Richie9999;
From the information you provided, it sounds like your disk died. I don't see much you are going to be able to do besides that it to the Apple Store.
