Blocked Numbers Problem

I blocked 888-799-7986 three days ago from calling my phone through the website.  Today I got a call from that number, but they called with 1-888-799-7986.  Is this a glitch in the Verizon system that the same number can get through if a 1 is added in front?  If I go to Block the number 1-888-799-7986, I get the error that the phone number must be 10 digits -- so I can't block the newly changed number from the company.
Yes, the phone is also on the do not call list and I have reported the number both times now, but just a bit curious as to why the number can still get through after I have had it blocked.

If the caller is using an international number it can not be blocked.
Caller ID Block, where not recognized, may not be blocked.  Verify that the correct number is being blocked.
Details of Call & Message Blocking:
Account Owners have insight into what blocks their account members have set up and can modify them.
Account Members with access to My Verizon can block up to five 10-digit phone numbers from unwanted incoming calls and messages for 90 days.
Incoming calls from these numbers are blocked (outgoing calls are allowed).
Incoming texts from these numbers are blocked
Not available on international numbers.
If a 10-digit international number is entered, the call may not be blocked and is dependent on carrier agreements.
Cannot block other account members.
After expiration, customers can sign up again for an additional 90 days.
Blocked individuals who call a customer will hear the message: Welcome to Verizon Wireless. The number you were trying to reach has calling restrictions which has prevented the completion of your call
The following are the limitations and restrictions to Call Blocking:
Incoming call and message blocking is not available on International numbers.
Limited to five 10-digit phone numbers only.
Verizon Wireless Financial Services Call Center or collection agency numbers cannot be entered or blocked.
Caller ID Block, where not recognized, may not be blocked.
The Call Blocking feature only blocks inbound voice calls and incoming messages from a number on the block list.
All blocked individuals receive the blocked Picture/Video message in their inbox, including the subject line. However they will not be able to view content body (text and multi-media items).
International numbers may not be added.

I have added two numbers to my blacklist using the long press on the numbers in my call history but I have received calls from both numbers since adding them and they did not get blocked.  These numbers are not in my contacts and I have rebooted since adding them and they were still not blocked an additional time.
Am I missing something or is anyone else having this problem?  My carrier is Verizon.

This is down to verzion most likely, they make money from blocking numbers,it could also be a software issue, ive read a few threads on this and the most likely cause is the operator.

  • Hi All can anyone help me, I have a Iphone 4s and I'm currently recieving nuisance calls via a blocked number is there anyway I can stop my phone accepting blocked numbers? Cheers

Hi all I'm Currently recieving Nuisance Calls via a Blocked number is there anyway I can stop my Iphone accepting Blocked Numbers? Thanks

There is a way! I'm very happy to share this and hope it helps those who find themselves plagued, as I was.
I have been getting nuisance calls for months from some muppet, who hides his phone number before he calls at 3am. I need to keep my phone on, in case any of my immediate family have an emergency. I'm sure many have the same problem, just turning off the phone is not an option. I have been to two or three shops to ask the experts and none could offer me a solution. I was on the verge of tring to jailbreak my phone or even get rid of it to get an andriod one...That's how bad things had become.
Anyway, this is my solution, which I found by trawling through page after page on the internet, for ages and trying various other solutions first. I have an iPhone 4S and the operating system is 6.1.3 and I am in the UK, on Orange, or EE as we should now call it. I cannot promise it will help everyone, but it works for me.
Go to Settings, Do Not Disturb and switch this on. Underneath here, go to Notifications, then Do Not Disturb again. Then Scheduled and set the times you want the restrictions to start and end. For example, I use 7pm to 8am, so that I know I won't get nuisance calls during this period, but whatever times work for you. Underneath, it says Allow calls from and you can select your favourites. If you haven't saved any of your contacts as Favourites, do so, it's very easy. Just go to contacts, open one and underneath the number there is a button to Add to favourites. Repeat for all close friends and family you want to be able to reach you at any time. All your favourites should be allowed to call. I think you can have 50 numbers in the favourites. But any unknown caller should be simply sent to voicemail.
Apple have had some previous issues with the Do Not Disturb feature and to be honest this didnt work 100% of the time for me. If you find the same, don't give up. I suggest you do as I did at this point and use an app called Call Bliss, which seems to have cracked it. (I have NO connection to them and it's no skin off my nose if you use this app or not). There may be other apps that do the same, or even better for all I know. You have a free one day trial then it's £3 if you want to continue to use it. For me, £3 to solve the problem was money very well spent. If you need this app, download it, then do as suggested above to the point where it says Allow calls from and this time you select Bliss Exceptions. Follow the instructions in the app.
There are two modes, I use suppress mode, which allows all calls to get through except those from unknown callers and those specified by you. I believe the other mode blocks all calls, except those you specify. Please note, the app only works when the iPhone is locked. Your lock might come on after the phone is not used for 5 minutes or so, or you can lock the phone by single clicking the on/off button (not holding it down).
I hope this helps anyone as much as it has done me.

  • How come I can't block numbers anymore?

Hi I currently do not have any numbers blocked on my device but upon going to the my verizon account settings and looking for the blocked feature I noticed the options have been changed with the new site redesign. I no longer have the option to block a number on my phone. I contacted my dad who is the account owner for all our accounts but he assured me there has been no blocks or changes made to my phone or account so therefore I should be able to block a number like I always have been.
I have this one person sending me harassing phone calls and I need to stop it before it gets out of hand. If I click on my verizon I look to the left and click on the menu item that says "block calls and messages" and upon clicking that I click on "manage family and safeguard controls" and then scroll down the page to the option that says "call and message blocking." It shows that the item is free to install so when I click on apply it simply redirects me to the page that has the feature for "manage family and safeguard controls."
Basically I am confused and lost. I used to be able to block up to 5 numbers free of charge at one time and now idk if this the new site doing this but it is not showing me a list where I can insert a number and I have no clue what I am doing wrong.

The option is still there, but for some reason the feature fell off some phones when the site was redesigned.  At least that's how it was explained to me when the same thing happened a month or so ago.  I talked with a Customer Service rep who put the feature back on the phone line, then I was able to block numbers via MyVerizon again.

Otherwise, consider increasing the block size or decreasing the device size.
If I add the -Jblock64 option works, but dunno how can affect the performance of the cluster disk. By the way, block Size cannot be increased since 4096 is the maximum allowed.

    Any ideas?

  • HT201229 CAN you block numbers on your phone with iOS 6

I have ios6  can i block numbers from phone the way you are doing it with ios 7 noww

But you can set things up so they are less annoying.
Find a silent ringtone on the Internet. Install it on your phone.
Create a contact for the number. Give that contact the silent ringtone, and set vibrate to none.
Set the texting entries in the contact to none and none for sound and vibrate as well
now if they call or text you will not hear them. You will only know if you are looking at the phone and it lights up when they call, and you will have a missed call notice. You just ignore them. But it does not wake you up, or make you stop what you are doing to answer the call

  • Getting calls from blocked numbers

I have been receiving phone calls from a blocked number, is there any way to find out who it is? I know when someone blocks there number on a landline you can *69 and call the number back can you do that with a cell phone?

Hey there, barkar! Although it's been a while, I recall a period of time when I would get calls from blocked numbers. It can be very upsetting! I wish I could say that there's a way to see beyond those blocks, but the very purpose of the blocks is to protect the caller's privacy (even if that protection may come at the expense of the peace of mind of those being called). The best advice I can offer is to just not answer calls from individuals you either don't recognize or don't expect. Let them roll to voicemail. Must legitimate calls will leave you a message with their intentions stated.
And, if they become too much to handle, you do have the option to change your mobile number free of charge through My Verizon. Good luck to you!

  • TS3366 Does "Blocking" numbers use up voicemail space?

How many Blocked numbers will overload/fill Voicemail storage?

    Yes.
That's because true blocking must be done before the call connects to the phone. What blocking on the phone does is ignore blocked numbers, it doesn't actually block them. The only way to prevent this is to arrange with your carrier to block the numbers at their switch, before they get to your phone. Most carriers offer this service. Most also charge a monthly fee to enable it.

  • Blocking Numbers PERMENANTLY

I propose a feature, available to ALL Verizon Customers, that enables the blocking of ALL NUMBERS; International numbers, any number I choose.  if I chose to block a number for over seas, if I choose to block a number from Canada, etc.  Why is it that you can :
1 only block US numbers, and then only for 90 days
2 Have to purchase "Family Basic" to be able to PERMENANTLY block numbers and in particular a number that might be a "novelty" number as it was called by one of the customer service reps i had a "live chat" with less than 30 minutes ago.
    Feature:
    BLOCKING
         a. International numbers with out additional cost
         b.  ALL NUMBERS OF MY CHOSING - PERMENANTLY (UNTIL I DECIDE TO UNBLOCK THEM) and telling me that a service like this would take up too much server is funny, because you could as a company " hard block" the number with a simple single entry.
You cant tell me you can't data crunch.  And develop a listing, and a running listing of numbers being requested by your millions of customers.  Run a query on the most frequently "blocked" number and then "single line code" a number or string code the numbers,

There will definitely be an option to block numbers on iOS 7. Since that is not yet released, you need to contact your cellular provider and they'll block the number for you, there's usually a fee.
    Best Regards, Brandon.

  • I blocked quite a few different phone numbers awhile ago but when I looked at the blocked numbers today it looks like the same number has been blocked multiple times.  Does anyone know why that is?

I blocked a lot of different numbers awhile ago but when I checked the blocked numbers today it looked like the same numbers were blocked multiple times.  So for example if I blocked phone numbers 555-555-5555, 555-555-5556, and 555-555-5557 on different days it looks like only 555-555-5555 has been blocked 3 different times and I no longer see phone numbers 555-555-5556 or 555-555-5557.  Does anyone know why?

Oh dear, one of those phantom disconnections. You know they are actually so common BT have a specialist department that deals with them. I think they are called Priority Back in Service, there is no actual phone number you can ring them on, you have to call 150 as normal and the customer service team are supposed to raise the issue with them to sort out.
You could contact that Mods but they sometimes take 3 days to reply, especially with it being the weekend.

  • Blocked Numbers still getting through.

I purchased usage controls for my son's droid.  I had to block a number that he was texting/calling at all hours of the night.  The number, an ATT number, shows up on my blocked numbers list, but checking his usage, this number is still texting and calling him.  What do I have to do to completely prevent this other number from contacting him?

We would need to review your account further and troubleshoot this for you. We will be sending you a message to gather more data.
    Thank you
