Blocking Bit-Torrent and other P2P softwares

Hello Dear All
I need to block All P2P Activity (ASA 5525) from VPN Users (outside), I tried some access lists, but they didn't take any action.
could you please assist me the access lists/policy-maps that you have done before and its working.
As you see output of service-policy there are matching but there is no any packet dropped.
Output :
ASA# sh service-policy global inspect http
Global policy:
  Service-policy: global_policy
    Class-map: inspection_default
      Inspect: http Drop-P2P, packet 942279, lock fail 0, drop 0, reset-drop 0, v6-fail-close 0
        protocol violations
          log, packet 123
        match request header user-agent regex _default_gator
          drop-connection log, packet 0
        match response header regex _default_x-kazaa-network count gt 0
          drop-connection log, packet 0
        class bit-torrent-tracker
          drop-connection log, packet 0
ASA# sh service-policy global inspect http
Global policy:
  Service-policy: global_policy
    Class-map: inspection_default
      Inspect: http Drop-P2P, packet 980730, lock fail 0, drop 0, reset-drop 0, v6-fail-close 0
        protocol violations
          log, packet 131
        match request header user-agent regex _default_gator
          drop-connection log, packet 0
        match response header regex _default_x-kazaa-network count gt 0
          drop-connection log, packet 0
        class bit-torrent-tracker
          drop-connection log, packet 0
Thank You

Hi Ali,
Your VPN users connects through internet and get internet access from the ASA connected internet link??? There you want to block the bit torrent and P2P?? Please describe your setup....
Also provide your configurations that is related to P2P & Bit Torrent blocking
Remember one thing.
The ASA can block P2P type applications only if P2P traffic is being tunneled through HTTP. Also, ASA can drop P2P traffic if it is tunneled through HTTP. If that is already been proxied then its not poosible for asa to block such traffic.

  • Effectively blocking Bit Torrent

    I am using BackTrack 5 to help monitor Bit Torrent since I have been completely ineffective in blocking it via my Cisco 5505 Firewall.  I have now seen several outbound TCP connections with the connection being to my firewall's IP address.  I am a rookie when it comes to using Cisco's rather clunky interface and am struggling with this.   I am a software developer with very few networking skills in a company of 5!  Can anyone help with the proper way to block bit torrent downloads on my Cisco asa 5505 or tell me why my BackTrack system is telling me that the firewall is connecting to the pirate bay?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

    It would help if you provided a white-washed network diagram to see where the BackTrack software is installed, listening to traffic.  Now if I were a betting person, I would lay good odds that the address  BackTrack sees is the same NAT IP used for traffic to go to Internet and  BackTrack is listening to traffic after it exits the ASA.
    One of the things I have to be beneficial on many levels is implementing a software which uses netflow to track traffic, Scrutinizer for instance.  You have all interfaces on the ASA monitored and create filters to look into almost anything crossing the ASA.  (Not to plug Scrutinizer, just found it to be the best.)
    Another benefit is to use it to see what applications, users, etc are eating traffic.  I found a company which released new code to their web servers that did not compress pdf's after being generated, part of new code.  As a result we saw a significant portion of the network traffic increase, almost double, and would not have found the culprit had it not been for netflow.

  • Quicktime and Other Apple Software Close Unexpectedly

    After installing Quicktime 7.1.6 my whole computer started messing up. Every time I try to open Quicktime it unexpectedly closes before it gets a chance to open. This also happens with Itunes and Other Apple Software, even system preferences closes unexpectedly. However I can open and run photoshop with absolutely no problems. Is there a way to revert to 7.1.5 or a way to restore the operating system to a date before I installed the new version of Quicktime? I know you can do that on windows operating system.
    thanks
    powermac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    I discuss by eMail with a developper of Graphic Converter and he confirm this problem
    Really?
    The latest version of GraphicConverter (5.9.5) runs perfectly with OS 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.6.
    Not that GraphicConverter has anything to do with video.
    It's a Quicktime crashes with .AVI corrupted files..
    'AVI' can be many things. It is not a codec but a container, and if a file is corrupted you can't blame Quicktime for not opening it!
    Try doing a bit of maintenance on your computers, guys.

    Like iWeb, iMovie, And Staffs Like That?

    As a hobbyist dual core Macbook Pro 13-1nch will do fine.
    For professional work, you are better off with Macbook Pro 15-inch quad core i7..
    iWeb is no more available from Apple. You may  have to check Amzon for it.

  • Why apple let to Mac Keeper to alert me fake that my mac book air infected by virus? when searching bit defender and others they said that i haven't any viruses in my computer!!

    Many times Mac Keeper alert me spontaneously that my mac book air infected by many viruses and force me that buy this antivirus program...Apple company know this or its fake alert or an advertisement. But its so disturbed me because of always force me that buy this program. So, bit defender and other virus scanners not find any viruses or malware...this alert from Mac Keeper are true or not? how i can know this is fake or true? thanks for your answers. The best regards

    The pop up messages are nothing more than annoying spam. Have you installed MacKeeper? Are you constantly seeing these popup messages? If so:

    Just bought a MacBook Air.  Isn't is supposed to come loaded with Numbers, Pages and other basic software?  I can't find these.  Can anyone help?

    It comes with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, but not with Pages, Numbers and Keynote. You have to download them from the Mac App Store.
    Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and accept all these apps, so they will be downloaded and installed free of charge.

  • Cisco SA520 - Unable to block all torrents and Poor Performance

    Hi, I have installed a Cisco SA520W Appliance at a Client who has about 40-50 PC's, the device has the latest firmware 2.1.7 and latest IPS signature (17) installed, the client is quite disappointed about the performance of the device as he believes Internet browsing access has slowed down substantially.
    The main problem the client is encountering is that, he is unable to block Utorrent P2P software and this is not allowing him to retain Internet control from the SA520 appliance.
    He had also commented on the fact that there does not appear to be a status monitor on IP usage of Internet access to pinpoint who at that time would be hogging up the bandwidth.
    Any feedback, same encounters scenarios and possible fixes to the above issues would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Shawn

    You might find this thread interesting regarding the router's performance with IPS turned on.  An SA540, and an access point, would yield slightly better performance.  That's what we use.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2022832?tstart=60
    There are some older threads regarding the SA500 series router's ability to detect torrent activity.  You might want to dig them up and respond to them.  The Cisco folks were working diligently at optimizing the IPS engine's ability to detect different types of torrent activity.
    There is no way to monitor Internet access usage at the individual IP level that I am aware of.  I suggest turning on network logging (to a syslog server as there will be a lot of data to capture) and monitor traffic that way.  Kiwi Syslog Server has a free version that your client could use.

  • How to Block Themes, Wallpapers and other Display Customizations (DPI, Scaling, Window Color and Appearance) with USMT 5.0?

    I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.
    I've read some great write ups on the subject:

    Wallpaper Migration with USMT (or: you are a jerk)
    and used part of the XML in their example, but the wallpaper, themes and other display customizations are still coming over.  Now I'm trying to use MigXmlHelper.DestinationPriority() but really its just my last ditch effort.
    From an elevated command prompt in C:\USMT\amd64\, I'm executing:
    scanstate.exe E:\USMTBackup /config:nothemeuiconfig.xml /i:MigApp.xml /i:MigDocs.xml /i:MigUser.xml /i:unconditionalexclusions.xml /i:blockwallpaperandthemev3.xml /i:getlocalpsts.xml /i:inclusions.xml /ui:domain1\user1 /ue:*\* /vsc /c /o /nocompress /localonly /v:13 /l:\\path\to\scanstate.log /progress:\\path\to\scanstate_progress.log /listfiles:\\path\to\scanstate_listfiles.log

    I generated a config.xml called nothemeuiconfig.xml and changed this:
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    To this:
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="no" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    But themes, wallpapers - everything - still come over.
    Opened a case with Microsoft, sent them:
    the XML's I'm using
    the command I used to generate the config.xml
    the command I used for scanstate
    the log files generated by scanstate
    the command I used for loadstate
    the log files generated by loadstate
    Summary result of the MS case:
    After much review & scrutiny, the command line and XML files are syntactically correct and rules are sound.
    The articles I referenced in the ticket are indeed old and speak of an older version of USMT, so I can accept the possibility that something may have changed between USMT versions that render those suggested rules & instructions invalid.
    Despite using
    unconditionalExclude to unconditionally globally exclude objects, something else is trumping that rule, and there’s no way around that.
    Even using
    MigXmlHelper.DestinationPrioity() won’t help us here because, like above, something else trumps that rule, and there’s no way around that.
    The last proposed suggestion is to disable the shmig component, which may or may not break or otherwise adversely affect the backup/restore of other things.  (This may be too difficult to detect easily or in initial testing and the uncertainty doesn’t
    give us confidence problems won’t arise as a result of this change.  Also,
    Ned Pyle's post post says NOT to, but then again that's an old post.)
    Is this no longer possible or am I'm just doing it wrong?

    Thanks for the reply
    TimAmico!
    I saw your responses on Friday & Saturday, but didn't reply because I wanted to think this over a bit and try to get a second opinion.
    The 'Appearance and Display' component looks to have a has a number of sub-components.
    <component displayname="Appearance and Display" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display">
    <component displayname="Windows Games Settings" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\windows_games_settings">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-GameExplorer" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-gameexplorer/microsoft-windows-gameexplorer/settings"/>
    </component>
    <component displayname="Taskbar and Start Menu" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\taskbar_and_start_menu">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-stobject" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-stobject/microsoft-windows-stobject/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-explorer" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-explorer/microsoft-windows-explorer/settings"/>
    </component>
    <component displayname="Personalized Settings" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\personalized_settings">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-uxtheme" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-uxtheme/microsoft-windows-uxtheme/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-shmig" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-shmig/microsoft-windows-shmig/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-shell32" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-shell32/microsoft-windows-shell32/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-CommandPrompt" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-commandprompt/microsoft-windows-commandprompt/settings"/>
    </component>
    </component>
    If I'm understanding the XML correctly, setting 'Appearance and Display' to 'no' will not bring over any of the sub components:
    Windows Games Settings: Microsoft-Windows-GameExplorer
    Tarkbar & Start Menu: Microsoft-Windows-stobject
    Tarkbar & Start Menu: Microsoft-Windows-explorer
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-uxtheme
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-themeui
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-shmig
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-shell32
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-CommandPrompt
    If so, that, to me at least, represents a pretty significant change!  We want the pinned items but not the backgrounds and themes so that specific change won't work for us, but glad to hear it meets your needs.  (Also greatly appreciate your sharing
    your results with us.)
    I'll admit, even before reaching out to MS, the logs clearly show that the themes/backgrounds are all part of the 'Microsoft-Windows-shmig' component but dang it if I want something of substance (read: official documentation) that covers what exactly that
    component handles.  (I like to know what I'm potentially getting myself into.)

  • How can I check for keylogger and other malicious software on a used Mac

    I purchased a used iMAC (Late 2012 21.5") and it has OSX 10.9.4.
    How can I ensure that it is clean and doesn't have any password or key logging or other malicious software installed in it ?
    I basically want to ensure I have a clean iMac at the start and not have to worry about security.
    Thanks

    The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
    How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received those media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
    To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
    If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
              OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
              The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
              You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
    In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.

    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • How to identify the required version of SAPINST and other SAP software?

    I have a dell poweredge machine with quad processor .
    On this we installed win 2k3 std x86
    when I go to my computer and properties, it shows me intel processor, and win 2k3 x86_64
    Then I download the IA64 verison and X86 versions of PI71 and related Oracle software.
    I tried installing Oracle 10g IA64 and it showed me an error message
    Then i installed I386 Oracle 10g and it installed successfully.
    While installing Pi71 software, it started promptint me that Oracle software is not found.
    So after a couple of hours of struggle and research< i installed AMD64 Oracle 10G and this got recognized by the PI71 software.
    My questionw rt the abvoe is - when my computer says it has x86_64 version of OS on an intel xeon processor, how did the AMD64 got into picture?
    So how to correctly identify which version of SAP software to download?
    Please advise - I am novice regarding OS and related issues...
    Thank,
    Ven

    IA64bit means Intel Itenium Processor.
    AMD64=(X64bit) means Intel Core 2 Duo
    This X64bit technologies invented by AMD so its called AMD64.

  • Iweb 09 and other web software

    I am awaiting delivery of my Iweb 09. This is ecause it allegedly ftps to any site that one owns. I had a wonderful surprise ina meeting whereing the committee wre requesting a new look website, and as they wrageld I did quick click on an 1web 08 template, put in basic title and this would go here type blocks saying "how about this?" resultant immediate kudos and the request to create the new site. "Great", I thought. Then realsied he sit eis written and maintained via Expression Web 2 ( via my VM Ware set-up) because this is an efective way to work with XML membership databases and link to ASPX. Will I be able to link to SPX file that call membership list data from I web (link is normally on the lines of {interior link} scotland.asp or {interoir link)West.asp to bring up the defined region options. The effect on the website is to bring up a list of members for the area. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, I do want some Apple style (far nicer than either DW or EW2 templates) I am hoping to publish to ftp folder and then edit this with EW2 for the extra bits. Am I being overly hopeful of Iweb 09's versatility. I am hoping it will basically be a working and standards compliant web page and basis of a DWT.
    I trust I have made myself clear . It took me almost a year to manage to get tthe ASPX files show properly in SAfari and firefox - now it does it fine, don't want to break this now.

    If nobody has a suggestion for a keyboard setting, you could use the built-in Spell Checker after you've composed your post:

  • Import problems iPhoto and other Photo software

    Hi there,
    I am a new MacBook Pro owner with Leopard 10.5.1 and iLife 08. Absolutely impressed by the system, but a bit disappointed that importing JPEG formatted photos from files sometimes results in garbled photos in iPhoto and Aperture, even though the originals are simply fine. Tried to used other software like GIMP, but the issue remains.
    Is this a known Mac OS X problem? If so, does anyone have a solution for it?
    I would be eternally grateful for any help I can get on the issue.
    Lucien

    Hi Terence,
    Thanks for answering. The photos have all been stored on my FAT32 formatted external USB 2.0 harddrive that I used with my old XP system. And the majority was taken with a variety of digital cameras (Toshiba, HP and Sony) and some were scanned in with a HP flatbed scanner.
    I do not know how to check the color profile of the photos on the Apple system (I am still a newbie) and I did not look at them yet on my old XP system (but I will, but I am not near the system at the moment).
    Would the color profile have anything to do with the problem?
    Thanks for your answer!

  • Blocking Bit Torrent

    Hi all,
    This isnt really a broadband problem, the issue is with my housemate. he is downloading torrents on my 3mb connection which i pay for which is taking all the bandwidth.
    I have told him to stop but he persists, rather than kicking him off the internet i would like to either throttle his connection to the Homehub or block bittorrent altogether.
    Does anyone know if BT have the capabilities to block torrent files?
    I have completed the CCNA so i am aware of port forwarding traffic to a non existant address such as 0.0.0.0 on 255.255.255.0 and have forwarded ports 6969 up to 8000 on the homehub to my laptop but its made no difference.
    I'm getting a Virgin connection soon for myself but i would like to sort this out before then so even if i have that connection and he has the BT one he cant use bittorrent. Yes its harsh but its got on my nerves enough now.
    any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Tom

    i dont think ive got to that point yet though i am very close.
    I'm thinking of getting the 50Mb virgin connection and simply not telling him or maybe showing it off to him.  Just had a plan of instead of blocking common ports bittorrent uses i will do a clean sweep and only let him access port 80 so all he can do his access websites. No more xbox live, spotify, bittorrent, PC gaming  etc for him.
    He should have really thought about stopping using bittorrent when i told him to, little does he know i have studied networking for over 4 years.
    Question remains open "can BT block bittorrent on their end?"

  • Advice on hardware choices for PS and other CS software

    My G4 is on it's death bed. I have an opportunity to begin doing some ad design along wih the other graphics and 3D work I do and need to get not only a new computer but move up from Photoshop 7 and add Illustrator and Acrobat. If money were no object this would be a moot question and I would get a Mac Pro. But having to get both a computer and costly software at the same time makes money an object. Basically I would like to know if any PS users are running the software on an Intel iMac and if so are they satisfied with the performance? And if so, what configuration are you running? I have never been a big fan of the all-in-one concept but my bias may be unfounded.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Jim

    OK, I placed my G4 Mac on its deathbed by installing Apple's OS X 10.5 (Leopard) It was a G4-400 (Sawtooth) with a 1GHz processor upgrade and 1.5G of system RAM. A very good, solid computer that lasted a long time (about 10 years).
    I replaced it with the Mother of all Macintosh computers: A Mac Pro running 2 x 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors with 8GB of installed RAM and a 1T boot drive (with a 1.5T drive I purchased aftermarket for Time Machine). I am running Adobe's CS3 applications, which are Universal applications and they do run just fine on it.
    My Mac Pro was a $6,000 piece of hardware. And that is a lot of money.
    You don't need a Mac Pro to run Adobe's Creative Suite unless you are doing a lot of work with After Effects in high definition. And Apple has just released an alternative to the Mac Pro that is very affordable and may be just what you need.
    The 27-inch Quad-Core iMac has a wonderful monitor and enough processor to run two or three Adobe applications at once (which is what I tend to do constantly). It is expandable from its standard 4 GB of system RAM to 16, which is certainly enough to allow Photoshop to work on billboard-sized projects as well as do good long RAM previews with After Effects. It comes with a 1T SATA drive and you can choose to install a 2T drive if you wish, though you'll want an external Firewire drive or array for Time Machine, as well as a scratch disk. I do recommend that you choose the faster processor option, which is $200.00, but the stock price of the Quad-Core iMac is just under $2,000.
    And your G4 can do fileserver work in the corner.

  • Trouble installing Digital Photo Professional and other Canon software

    Hello everyone,
    I have been trying to install several software programs on a new iMac without any success. My machine is the 20" Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.4.8. I am attempting to install Canon's Digital Photo Professional version 1.0 and the EOS Digital Solutions version 7.0 (original equipment with my 1D mkII - will upgrade after installation). During the installation of DPP the process will stop while "configuring installation". I then receive a message that "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again."
    When operating the Canon EOS Digital Installer on the Solutions disk I receive the message "Not authorized to write to this folder".
    As I am attempting to install this software under the administrative account, the error message for the Solutions disk puzzles me.
    Does anyone have any ideas about what the problem is or where to begin troubleshooting?
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    Kevin

    You may need to download the latest version (2.2.2).
    It runs fine on my iMac C2D. Version 2.2.2 is also Universal Binary.
    The only hitch you may have is the upgrade checks for an installed version. I'm not sure if it will accept the CD as an upgrade.
    Where did I download it from? That I'm not certain of! I did a long search on Google & finally ran across a Japanese Canon site that had it.
    If you can't install to upgrade, try installing it on a PPC Mac, install the update, then drag & drop the installed file to your new Mac.
