Blocking Facetime calls from strangers

We have received a call during the middle of the night on facetime from a stranger. How can you block such calls.
We did not answer it.

I am surprised... we received another call during the middle of the night from the same person - again we ignored it, as much as I wanted to answer and say something (that can't be mentioned on this forum!).
I have removed one of the facetime emails addresses, the next step is to turn off facetime at night, though I expected something better from Apple than having to turn the feature off!!!

I'm getting FaceTime calls from strange numbers with the 239 area code. I just received my iPad a few days ago and it's happened 4 times from 2 numbers. Is anybody else seeing this?

I am not. Sounds cool/creepy. Did you answer them? The reason I ask is because I wonder if they are really facetime calls or are somehow getting mixed up with phone calls (assuming they also happen on an iphone). Since it's your iPad, someone very well may have just called up your email address (since that's what it uses to identify you) to see if you had facetime. (no idea why anyone would do that.)

Need to block spam calls from 201-*

I'm getting many spam calls from numbers like 201-340-1009, but the right-ward numbers keep changing.
I'm told this is someone mis-using (or just using) PINGER. I'd like to just block all
calls from 201 area code (New Jersey, not waiting for Snookie call). Can I do this?
If not, any other recommendations?

You can also list your cell number(s) on the U.S. government's Do Not Call registry by going to https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx. I believe this helps, as I haven't been getting spam calls or texts (though I never got very many) after giving my registration there 31 days to become effective. If they do persist in calling, this gives you a mechanism to report them. This way you only have to register your number, not all the numbers that might be trying to call you.
And (of course) when we go to that site we learn that "Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry. The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry." D'oh!

I had the same problem on my brand new iMac and Apple Care solved it for me. Very simple.
1. Restart your computer
2. As soon as you hear the chime, press the SHIFT button until you see the Apple logo, then release it. This will put your computer into safe mode. When your computer boots up to the home screen in safe mode, Facetime will NOT work. That's normal.
3. After your computer finishes booting up to your home screen, restart it normally. That solved the problem for me.
Apple Care said that putting the computer into safe mode results in a diagnostics check that can fix certain problems. I hope this helps someone else.

No, it doesn't get registered as a call as it functions simply as data through Wi-Fi

Check to see if you have an old phone number associated with this person in your address book. When you call someone on Facetime it calls ALL numbers/emails associated with that persons contact sheet! This was my problem, this stranger has my husband's old phone number!

Because you make a FaceTime call from FaceTime on the iPad.
On a Mac, you can start and iChat conversation from the Messages app and maybe that is what you are talking about. iChat can still be used in Mountain Lion in order to have a face to face conversation with other Mac users that are not running ML and therefore do not have FaceTime.

That's not possible - nor necessary. Just adjust your "privacy" parameters
TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac
