Blocking incoming email accounts

I have suddenly been deluged with apparently undeliverable mail sent elsewhere but returned to my email address from Hotmail.  I am neither a subscriber/member of Hotmail, nor of Windows Live.
How do I simply block a sender from my email inbox?  With the PC there was an ability to name senders, but I cannot find the same on my iMac.

If there's is something unique in the header (from hotmail?) you could make a rule to filter the stuff to mail's junk or trash.  But you cannot simply block it from coming in.
Most isp's have mail servers where you can specify filtering for the server so that it never reaches you.  It's generally provided through some web page set up by the isp to enable mail filtering.  You would need to check with your isp about that.

  • Can you set different sounds for different incoming email accounts?

Can you set different sounds for different incoming email accounts? Example, I have multiple email accounts on Mail. I would like the sound for my roadrunner account to be different from my .mac and personal website accounts. Is it possible to configure this or is there a script out there that someone knows about.
    Thanks

You could choose None in Preferences > General > New Mail Sound and set up a rule for each account in Preferences > Rules as follows:
If [any/all] of the following conditions are met:
    [Account] [AccountName]
    Perform the following actions:
    [Play Sound] [Sound]
Problem is, that would cause the sound to be played for junk mail as well — probably not what you want.

  • Blocking incoming email

How do I block incoming email from someone I do not wish to continue receiving emails from, I am using my home computer, not a cell phone.

From your Inbox page, go to Preferences>>>>>>Email>>>>>>Email Filters.  There you can set up a filter to either re-direct incoming email or just discard it so you never see it.

  • Block Incoming Emails

    Hello,
I have a solaris 10 machine running Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-8.01 . I'm using this server only to send email , not to receive. I have another server for Incoming emails.
I Want to block incoming emails from outside domains on the SMTP out server, thus I added "tcp_local|*|tcp_intranet|* $N$D30|you$ are$ not$ allowed" under "ORIG_SEND_ACCESS" mapping table, then restarted messaging service.
This rule did not work for unknown reasons, I can keep sending emails from outside IPs or domains to inside users using the SMTP out server.
Note that there's a similar rule to stop relaying tcp_local - tcp_local and it is working perfectly.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Was there an upgrade that blocks incoming email ?

i stopped receving emails yesterday afternoon. i've spoken with my ISP and its not a server problem. might be software related. i do not believe i have an action firewall (firewall is off under system preferences/sharing) but dont know what "Network Time" is. any thots?

(I posted this on another thread, but since you seem to be in the same boat as me, and I have yet to hear a solution)...
Yay, I'm not the only person who suddenly can't access email using APPLE MAIL!
Using Apple Mail, the last email I've been able to receive from an Earthlink-hosted domain account was on the morning of 11/30/05. I have Apple Mail on 3 computers (one of which is still Jaguar, the other two are Tiger), and MAIL is totally malfunctioning on ALL THREE COMPUTERS!
However, the mail is on the server, and I have NO PROBLEM downloading it using Entourage... I can see the mail is still on the server, yet APPLE MAIL doesn't see it...
I have a total of 5 email accounts, and but the problem is only with one account and Apple Mail. That's what makes this so annoying, as the problem seems to point to both Apple's software and also to Earthlink (who hosts this email account, and also has admitted to having a lot of email server problems lately). Since Apple Mail works with other accounts, it points to Earthlink. But since Entourage has no problem getting mail from this account, it point to Apple Mail. HELP!!!!
NOTE: I did the security update (2005-009) on some computers, but not all, yet the problem is on all my computers (using MAIL).
Oh oh... I realize this is rambling... I just ran mail on a 4th computer. I haven't run mail on this computer for months... Anyway, it seemed to get the mail fine! Very confusing... As if something corrupted the APPLE MAIL if it was running last week, but not if it hasn't run for awhile... Crazy...
Below is a solution posted on another website, but I have yet to try it. Maybe it will work, but it requires deleting a lot of stuff...
Also, for anyone desparate, please try mail2web.com to access your mail, and see what's on your incoming mail server! It's a lifesaver if you don't have anything but Apple Mail!

"I was also having the problem of Mail.app not showing any new mail off my IMAP server (using Cyrus IMAP and postfix on SuSE Linux 9.1). Even after deleting the account and confirming the deletion of the account folder in ~/Library/Mail. I was able to fix it only by deleting all accounts from the Mail.app preferences, quitting Mail.app, and then trashing all the contents ~/Library/Mail. When I added my account then, everything worked fine. I did have to redo all my preferences. I am also using GPGMail for Tiger without problems."

  • Spam blocking for email accounts

Anyone know how to block spam ads from email accounts?  I have both work and personal email accounts--spam only coming in on on personal.  I've installed Lookout Mobile Security, but doesn't stop the 7-10 product ads per day from coming into my inbox.  Verizon tech assistance was courteous and helpful, but wrong.  They're the ones who told me to install Lookout Mobile Security. It may work for antivirus, but doesn't stop spam.

  • Using Eudora or Netscape7 for non-verizon email accounts with FIOS for access

Since Verizon does not give tech support to 3rd party email clients, and using a non-Verizon email account creates additional problems, I decided to share what I learned the very hard way....certainly with no help whatever from Verizon tech support.
First of all, there may have been a time (a day, a month, some random nanosecond) when you had to change the port to 587 it is no longer the case.  Port 25 works just fine, and in fact 587 no longer works in most cases.  So ignore tech support's claim that all you have to do is change the port number to 587...don't do it.
And so long as you want to use a pop account other than verizon for your incoming email you will have to use what is referred to as SMTP Relay.  Verizon tech support will tell you that Verizon no longer supports SMTP Relay, and technically speaking that is true, but Verizon SMTP Relay is not what you need anyway.  What you need is to use the SMTP Relay facility of your Email Client, in my case Eudora and (for my wife) Netscape 7.
Now before you can actually do anything you will have to have a valid Verizon email account, even if you never plan to actually use your verizon email address.  That means before you can set up your email client you must have a verizon email address. The tech who installed my FIOS supposedly set up my computer, which meant I had internet access, but he didn't set up the verizon email address.  I wasted 2 days before this came to light...so just make sure you have one before starting.
Netscape 7.0  has an email client my wife has used forever so I had to make it work for Verizon FIOS.  Fortunatly they have a built in SMTP Relay facility (although they never call it that).  You set up your pop (incoming) server the way you always have.  In my our email accounts are on Earthlink, so you use the earthlink POP server for your incoming email.  If you are switching from whatever you have to Verizon FIOS, you will already have that set up anyway.  But you will have to change the SMTP server address to outgoing.verizon.net    and you will have to click the box that says Use Authentication, with  User Name and Password.  You will put into the User Name your verizon email account except without the .verizon.net    And the first time you use this Client to send email it will ask your for your password (use your Verizon password) and you should check the box that says to remember this password.    This will make everything work fine.  You will see on the SMTP Server information page a box that allows you to fill in the port.  If you leave it blank it will use port 25.  If you put in another port number it has to be right, and what is the correct number keeps changing based on which verizon person you talk to.  I found that 25 works, although they say it won't, and that others don't work, although they say they will.
To Use Eudora (as i do)  first you have to be using the latest version 7.1 because it appears to be the first one that truely supports SMTP Relay. That's a free download if you don't have it.   Then you have to use multiple personalities.  Effectively you set up one personality (go to to tools and click on personalities) which is your normal email account (ie not your verizon one).  This is used for everything with the exception of the SMTP Server interaction.  YOu then set up a second personality which is for your Verizon email account. Be aware that you can still have that account use your normal email return address so folks who receive email from you can reply to your normal email address.  You can, independantly from that set up your incoming email pop account to be either your normal one or your verizon incoming email account (I do it the later way so I can receive something actually sent to my Verizon account, although I never give that out.  But now the important thing is that you set up your SMTP server to be outgoing.verizon.net  set up User Name to be your verizon email account but without the verizon.net and click on Authentication Allowed and Use Relay Personality.  Don't click on Use submission port 587, like I said you want to use 25, but if verizon has changed that yet again no problem as you can set up the port to use independantly using the Tools/Options/Ports , and finally you go to the Tools/Options/SendingMail stuff and select the SMTP Relay Personality to be the one that is set up for the Verizon email account.  That means your client will operate using your primary personality for everything except the SMTP part and for that it will get all its parameters from the Relay Personality.
    This all worked.

I use Eudora a my email client and routinely receive both my Verizon and ATT emails.
The last email I received  from my Verizon account was at 10:30pm on August 5.  I cannot send emails from Eudora at all either.
My Verizon DSL email account is active through Verizon-Florida at my home there.  I am currently at my Ohio home and the DSL account is with Frontier which purchased Verizon here in Ohio.
Does anyone know what might have happened to have resulted in my emails not being sent to or from my Eudora Client?

  • Blocking primary iCloud account?

From reading discussions about this, it appears impossible to delete the primary iCloud email account. However, since its easy to block alias email accounts to control spam, is it also possible to temporarily block the primary email account for the same purpose?

    It's got me stumped.
I've tried with signatures on and off but still no joy.
I have multiple @zyx.com accounts ie. [email protected], [email protected] and non of the emails go through. So, it's
definitely something to do with the @xyz.com domain. If I send an email from another domain to @me.com it works fine.

  • RE: Blocking an incoming email

Is there a way to block someone in particular from sending you emails & I'm not talking about junk mailers or spam. I need to block out one person in particular
    Thanx

The only way to truly block someone or an email address from sending you mail is at the incoming mail server level for the account by your ISP or email account provider.
If this person is threatening or harassing you, this should be easy for your ISP or email account provider for the account to accommodate but if for no other reason besides personal that you no longer want to receive email from this person, I doubt your ISP or email account provider will be very helpful in this situation.

    Sorry for the delay...
I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.
    Thanks for the help, anyway!!

  • I have sent in a question but don't think I worded it right. I have 3 email accounts. The all work fine. My problem is that I set up a "notication" the same way on all 3 but incoming emails are only notifed to me (alerts) on one of them.

How do I get notifications of incoming mail? I have set this up on 3 accounts and the "beep" only works on incoming email for one of the 3 accounts. The emails come in fine but I have to open up the phone to see if I have any messages.
