Blocking internet access in a virtual windows xp box

Is there a way to block internet access when I have a virtual windows xp box within Windows 7?
The reason, is I just want to run one application and restrict internet access as I some users are restricted from the internet.
Thanks
John

Hi, Juke.
I'm afraid I'm a dummy, and don't know how to do this. I'm sure as April 8 approaches, a lot of people with important DOS or XP apps will be wanting to insulate their XP VM from potential hacking while still running programs locally.

Hi,My router does not block internet access on my other PC. I tryed "Always" tryed specific addresses, tryed IP addresses and everything tech support suggested. I even replaced the router at their advise. Nothing helped. I realize that the problem is not the router but probably my home network configuration, but I can't figure out what is it. To my defence, so couldn't they Does anybody have or had such a problem?Thank you

  • WRT54Gv3 Looses/Blocks Internet Access

After installing version 4.21.1 of the Linksys frimware on my router WRT54Gv3 it will loose and/or block access to the internet. It will do it at random times usually weeks apart. All the lights on the router look normal, my modem still shows a connection to the router. My computers will connect to the router wired or wireless and I can also login to the config page of the router. Visually everything looks fine. Power cycling the modem and router does not fix the problem. I have to perform a factory reset on the router before it will work again. Is anyone having this problem with v4 or below of the WRT54G router after installing 4.21.1 of the linksys firmware? My friends router does the same thing and he has v4. I have v3.
    Thanks

Well my router has always had the default IP address.
I also noticed that when the internet is being block that i can use the diagnostic tab and get a response using ping and perform trace routes.
I can also release and renew my IP info from Comcast's DHCP Server.
I've never had a signal issue with the router. I'm always able to connect to it using a wireless or wired connection. I connect successfully to the router it's that it blocks access to the internet to all the connected computers.
I'm at a loss and so it seems with Linksys tech support. I had a chat with them and they made me do a factory reset then update the firmware and then perform a factory reset again. They felt that the firmware may have been somehow damaged when I previously updated the router. I feel like my router will start blocking internet access again by the end of the month. If not I'll let you know if resetting, flashing, and resetting thing worked.

  • No Internet Access thru VPN w/ Windows 8.1

I had VPN working with Internet access & then all of a sudden it stopped working.  I suspect one of the Windows AUTO update changed something that made it stop working, but can not be sure.
Per other blogs: I tried to temporary disable firewall and antivirus program on Windows 8.
Furthermore, tried to right click your VPN connection---properties---Networking---IPv4 or IPv6---Properties---Advanced---IP settings---Use default gateway on remote network.
Nothing worked.  When VPN has no Internet connection - I can still successfully ping 8.8.8.8 in CMD window.
Next thing I suppose is to post RAS traces??  But I'm not sure which log file I should post.
    Please help.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have Windows auto update & the last time it worked was months ago (but not sure which version).
Yes, if I ping 8.8.8.8, I get response, but I cannot connect to internet when I try to browse.  In response to your questions:
    1.  I tried ping www.google.com, and I got "Ping request cannot find host www.google.com" message.
    2. Yes, by no internet access I meant I cannot browse the internet.
    3. No, I don't use any IE proxy server.

  • How to block internet access for RDS and RemoteApp users?

    Hi everyone,
This question might partially belong to security forum but I think anyone using RDS services comes across this. I would like to TOTALLY block all internet access including "updates" to any software, windows updates, anti-virus updates, TCP, UDP,
or ANY other protocol out of the server. I would like to only allow traffic both ways for established traffic (e.g. accessing the remote apps).
How can I achieve this without involving a third party firewall software?
    Thanks

In our visitor center, we setup a computer with fake proxy server and add our website to the exception so that the visitors access our website only and no other website. If this RDS is for internal use only, you may disable default gateway. This link may

  • Block internet access by MAC address all the time

I want to be able to block MAC addresses from accessing the internet but allow them to use the network.
I can do this in other router interfaces but the BT Home Hub 2.0 has a VERY un user friendly interface and will not allow advanced internet access or other settings to be modifyed to suit my needs.
I am at an intermediate level at understanding network equipment and an expert at residential networking.

Not sure about the home hub 2, but on the home hub 1 you can use a "user defined" firewall setting to block access to a computer by specifying its IP address.
    Source LAN
Interface 192.168.1.xxx  (address you wish to block)
    Destination WAN
    Service ANY
    Action Deny
You can tell the home hub to always use this IP address for the device you are trying to block.
There is probably a similar setting on the home hub 2.
By default I block all Internet access for devices, then I have rules to allow HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and a couple of others.
    I also have UpnP disabled.
This prevents any computer on the network accessing any non-standard ports.

  • Safari 4 blocking internet access

When I try to access an URL that's wrong or doesn't exist Safari will block the internet access for my whole computer, Spotify, all other browsers, Mail etc.. stops getting access to the internet. Only solution is to restart Safari, and the internet access will pick up again immediately. Does this happen to anyone else out there as well?

  • WRT54GS Blocking Internet Access

    Hi,
I have a WRT54GS router that constantly blocks the internet access.  Any computer (Mac or PC) is able to access the wireless network, however, no internet signal is passed through the router.  I know the internet signal works because you can connect directly to the cabel modem and the internet works fine.  When the router is connected to the modem the internet light on the front of the router blinks (as if there were data being transmitted), but still no internet access availabe.
I have tried unplugging and fully restarting both the modem and the router in every order and combination possible with no success.  The only way I can solve this problem is to leave both the modem and the router unplugged for 24 hours and then plug them both back in.  This problem/blockage only seems to occur when the router has been inactive for 2 or more days (when I leave out of town or something).
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Start with restting your router...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Airport Extrem doesn t give internet access to my new windows 7

    Hello,
I ve bought an ACER laptop aspire one with windows 7. Its wifi + internet has work fine in airports, hotels and friend s homes, but in my home wiht my Airport Extrem it is impossible to get internet access with wifi ( connection limited indicqted with the yellow triangle ).
The Airport extrem works fine with another mac and others windows XP and vista...using the DHCP.
Ther Airport extrem identify the MAC @ of the aspire one but it seems like DHCP servers doesnt give it an IP@. The log:

    Rotated TKIP group key.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem. XP works with my router, but 7 does not. They don't receive the IP address.
Download the very latest driver from the manufacturer of the wireless card.
Make sure you load the airport utility for windows into the computer.. use ethernet to do it.
Intel cards are the worst.. they often have issues.
Remember that windows can move location spontaneously.. it should be home.. not work  not public.
Turn off all the firewalls.. there might be several if you buy a laptop with trial software.
If you continue having issues we need more details of what TC and what firmware it is running.
Change all names in the AEto windows compatible.. never forget Apple names are not going to necessarily work. This includes the AE name and wireless name/s.
Windows names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. (it is a bit broader than that.. but it is easier to stick to the known working subset) Certainly no spaces in the name and no apostrophe as Apple setups seem to create.
Use fixed wireless channels can also help.. with separate names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

  • HDTV blocks Internet access?

    Hello all,
When my 2009 Mac mini is connected to an Apple LED display, I can connect to the Internet through my Airport Express.
But when I connect the same Mac mini to a Panasonic HDTV (via HDMI), I can't get online!
(If I bypass Airport Express with a direct Ethernet connection between the cable modem and the Mac mini, Internet access is A-OK.)
Has anybody else had this problem?
Any help would be much-o appreciated!

Try AirRadar, on the net free trial, and see what your signal strength is relative to the tv. Not sure that will prove useful but may be the start of answering your question.

  • VPN and Exchange server blocks internet access

i had some difficulty configuring Entourage to connect to an Exchange server after establishing a VPN. When the VPN was up, but the Entourage was not working, I could use Safari or any other web access without problems. After getting the Entourage account running, it was populating the folders for what seemed like hours, so i wanted to do other things while waiting. Safari and AOL would not connect. Apparently Microsoft has figured out another way to mess with you on a Mac. Anyone had this problem?

It turns out that it's the VPN that is blocking web access. The first time I configured it a couple of months ago, it connected, and I could do whatever I wanted. When I tried to use the VPN the other day, all my settings had been erased for some reason and I had to reconfigure. It connected, I got into Entourage, used it, but when I tried to go to a web site Safari wouldn't connect. I closed Entourage, no dice. Today I connected without going into Entourage and Safari wouldn't connect. Without the VPN, Safari behaves itself. I have a PC upstairs with the same VPN and it allows use of your browser.
I connected to a different VPN host and still no browser on the Mac. Can not figure out what has happened.

  • Firewall Blocking Internet Access

Looking for suggestions to solve this problem. Multiple computers in my home will suddenly be unable to access the internet. Turning the firewall off for a few seconds, then back on will eliminate the problem on each computer affected. This problem seems to have shown up after the last security update, but not immediately. When unable to access the internet, if I look at the network system pref, it lists an ip address of 167.xxx.xxx.xxx. After toggling the firewall, I will get my normal 10.0.0.x back.
The issue seems to manifest a couple times per day, and almost certainly if the computer goes to sleep or is restarted. It happens on both my desktop and my laptop running 10.5.8, but not on a g3 imac running 10.4.11.
If I look at the firewall log I see multiple messages about "Firewall[90]: Deny mDNSResponder data in from...." These show up constantly about every 30 seconds or so. I am guessing this may have something to do with the issue as I do not see these messages in the G3 imac's log file.
Network is set up with a time machine with three macs (one g3 imac running 10.4.11, a G4 MDD running 10.5.8 - both wired connections, and a G4 ibook running 10.5.8 (wireless) as well as a couple network printers, dish, slingbox, a linksys switch etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is getting very annoying. Thanks.

I'm sorry, I said time machine and meant time capsule. The time capsule is set up as the router, and the linksys device is only a network switch. The modem is capable of functioning as a router also, but I just verified it is only functioning as a high speed modem (according to my isp). I have tried restarting and reconfiguring the time capsule, but it has not seemed to affect anything. It seems to me data goes out (ie to printer or network drive or internet), but does not come back.
Also, I have switched locations of the G4's and the G3 and get the same result.... the G3 always works, the G4's only work when their firewalls are toggled off. I have at this point tried reinstalling a 10.5.8 combo on the laptop to no avail. I think I might just do a clean install of OSX from CD and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

  • Blocking internet access

I'm trying to stop my daughter from accessing sites like facebook, during certain times of the day.
I have a netgear router that I can type in keywords like facebook and twitter, and this works great with IE but will not work with safari or any apps on the ipad.
They must access the internet through another port or the like, and whilst I know this is not a netgear forum, why do they work differently, what can I do.  I cannot fix the IP address, and I cannot change the router for any apple device as they do not contain an adsl router.
    Thanks

  • Block internet access in accounts?

    Hi
I'm trying to make one account where I can use the web, and one where I can't use the web. But everytime I deactivate the Airport the other account remembers it.
Is there a way to make it work?

Are both these accounts Admin accounts?
Have you tried making a New Location with Airport OFF yet?

  • Windows without internet access?

    Hi,
I'm wanting to switch from two Windows based computers into two Apples. I'm currently looking at the iMac to replace one and either a Mac Tower model or another iMac to replace the other. If I make the move, and it looks good so far, I'd like to ask a couple of questions to help with the decision.
#1-Can an Apple with the new Intel cpu have both the Apple OS on board as would be normal and also have a Windows OS such as Win98, etc. in the computer, say in a partition?
#2-Can an Apple computer with the new Intel cpu, say, be able to go onto the internet while using the Apple OS and also have a Windows OS like Win98 also on the computer, but have the Win98 OS be internet disabled?
#3-Can for the time being until we get accustomed to the Apple, switch back and forth between the OS's while the computer is on, or must it be booted separately?

Boot Camp which has Windows in a separate partition, would require Windows XP SP2.
Parallels which can also be used to run Windows in parallel with OS X can allow you to run Windows 98.

    Using Parallels, yes.
If using Boot Camp, you can disable internet access when booted into Windows.

Parallels allows you to run OS X and Windows at the same time.
Boot Camp requires you to re-boot when changing OS.
