Contact your wireless carrier. Only they can 'block' the phone.

Are you signed into your iCloud account right now? If so, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. My Iphone 3GS was updated to IOS5.1 Since then the iphone sometimes blocks during normal operation. During phonecals, or while using an app. I'm not able to reproduce it, but it certainly wil happen a few times a day. The screen turns grayish and the picture fades away.
Then, when I restart it shows the Apple logo and then nothing. It seems to loop, ai switching off, switching on, apple logo, switching off etc.
Until i restart it while charging the battery. Although the battery is still fully charged. Then it restarts completely and i can use the phone again. Apparently it needs the cable attached to the socket.
This works until the next time it blocks, typically within the next hour.
I have already (through DFU and itines) reinstalled the full software. The operation itself went well, but it didn't solve the problem.
Regular use, limited amount of relatively simple applications (mostly newspaper, mail, facebook etc). More then 10 GB free (on a 16 GB phone)
There seems to be a lot of info in the "diagnose and use" section, but not understandable to me.
Anyone suugestions please.

The device cannot be disabled, only the network access. Nothing will prefent it from being used as an iPod, for example. In the US, even IMEI blocking is not available, but it is in the EU. Changing the SIM card is not going to alter the IMEI of the phone - you might be able to get the IMEI from your former carrier. It may also be printed on the receipt from when you bought the phone.

I have a question, I bought an iphone 4 by ebay with ios 4.3 and It was working normally. Just 2 weeks ago I decided to update the software into ios 5.0.1but my iphone doesnt work any more. It is blocked and working just as an ipod.

Was the phone locked? If there was some sort of modification to the phone or unauthorized unlock, updating the phone would re-lock it.
Check Settings > General > About > Carrier, and see what carrier is displayed. You may need a new SIM from that carrier.

I bought a iphone 4 off gum tree and when I went to pick up the phone was dead, I took it home and charged it only to find out that the iphone is blocked and has a 4 digit pin that I can't unlock. How can I over come this issue and how much would it cost. I spent £130 on this for my girlfriend as a birthday gift, please I realy need help with this as I can't afford to buy another or pay to much to unlock it.

I brought an IPhone 4 (in fact 2 phones) from a Romanianoperator (Vodafone). No contract so considered as none blocked in a specific network.I tried another SIM form Orange.Not working. I went to them and apparently they are completely unaware aboutthis problem. In fact the phone is blocked but has to be unlocked by APPLE (!).They will make an email and I will resolve the situation after update inITunes.
Can you tell me what the real story is? I paid full pricefor those phones and I have to use them in a more than one operator.

Seems you a doing the correct steps. This is a Carrier issue, not Apple. If the Carrier has promissed an Unlock, the Carrier will provide it. The only step that to you will seem like Apple involvement is that when the Carrier Unlocks the iPhone, when you Sync or Restore in iTunes the actual unlock will occur. Apple really does nothing, it is your Carrier, continue working with your Carrier to resolve the problem.

Apple does not block phones. Call the police and your carrier. Change all your passwords. If you had find my iPhone enabled before the phone waa stolen, you may be able to track it, and erase the phone.

i unlocked my iphone 4 /6 months ago, after the end of my vodafone contract, but they are still locked and blocked, i gave them to my family abroad as a present but they cannot use them, what do i do?they tried to unblock them there but its impossible and i even contacted vodafone and they assured me the phonen are not locked on their network.

I'm wondering if this is a sowtware bug or not.
I'm using a security code for iPhone block.
When the phone is blocked, after for example 60 seconds of non usage, I've seen I can shut down the phone.
This is a BIG problem when, for example I loose my iPhone, or someone stole it.
Using iCloud, I can set iPhone in lost mode, but if someone find it and shut down it (since he can do it even if the iPhone is blocked),
well, if someone shout down the phone, I will never find it again !...
what do you think about it !?

Stolen/Blocked iPhone 4, what can be still be used/accessed?

Unfortunately I had my iPhone 4 stolen today (pickpocketed in London Underground), so I phoned the operator - O2 straight after the tube journey.
O2 claimed to have blocked the iPhone and also made the sim card "unusable" which was a bit odd as I didn't know the IMEI number (but apparently that does not matter?)
I was just wondering if anyone knows if:
1. The theif can still access or use my iPhone :apps, photos, videos etc (I did have a Passlock on the phone).
2. Can the person still access my sim card phone directory and sms messages (there was no Pin Code for the sim card).

Thats what I thought. I DID have find my iPhone turned on and watched it roam all over the city while trying to play detective…Thought maybe they realized it could not be used and it seemed to stay in one area for a long time so we checked all garbage cans and dumpsters in the area, then watched as they moved. Thats when I deleted all of my info and called AT&T to suspend my line and report it stolen. I did not have the latest update bc I did not want to delete my entire phone to update it. So wondering if they can still plug it in and download music…
