Blocking people

Hi,
according to an old belief when you block someone, they will see you as offline. And my curent tests prove this to be wrong. When I block someone, they see "this contact has not shared their details with you" or something along those lines. So what is the case and how can I achieve my desired result-appear offline to some while online to others? Thanks
p.s. I am running skype on linux(4.0.0. if that is of any importance

No, the person can no longer see you profile pic.
Once you blocked someone, they can no longer see your profile pic.
You can create multiple Skype Accounts using ONE email address. There is no limit.
If you delete an old skype account, You can still sign up for a new one using the same email address.

  • How can i block people in messages

I find it sort of annoying to get messages from people while I am on my computer. Also if I communicate with people through messages they automatically are able to see my email address which I probably normally wouldn't share with a lot of the people who text me.
Everyone who contacts me through messages is using their iphone to text and I generally don't want to use messages with people who text. Is there a way to set messages to only receive messages from buddies.
It seems that I can block people on my iphone but even then it can come through in messages which pretty much defeats the purpose.

    Hi,
I will try to be more clear.
If, on the iPhone, settings in Messages you invoke the Block on one person then their FaceTime and phone function to you are also Blocked.
It seems that the Block applies to the person via flagging their Address Card on your iPhone.
This is me blocking myself (second iPhone and Home phone and different Apple ID on anopther computer) in the Messages settings.
In each the next screen shows which are blocked to which app and allows a point to override the setting so you can call them.
I use iCloud to sync my Contacts apps across iOS 7 on my iPhone and iPad and on my Mavericks computer.
In most cases changes to the Address Card on the iPhone or the Mac will transfer to the other devices.
However it seems this blocking mechanism is not transferring from the iPhone to the Mac.
Same Settings in the Phone Settings
Nothing on the Mac Address Card suggests that the ID is blocked.
On the Mac I can still iMessage the Apple ID involved (and the said second iPhone)
I.e. the block has not transferred to Messages 8, the Mac or the Address Card in the Contacts app for "person".
I understand that the function is reported to be "coming to the Mac" although I have not read it myself.
If this is true it is not here yet.
On the Mac in Messages > Preferences > Accounts you can set the drop down to Send From the iPhone Number
Whilst  technically you could also Untick the Received At box for your email as well this will block people (it's another method) who you want to use the email (everyone).
My pane shows the regular ID as the 4th option (under "Change") and the iPhone number itself as the first in the list.
The two unticked ones are the details of the second iPhone.

  • Block people from loging into certain domaine names

    hello
to i'm looking for a way to block people from loging into certain udomain user names

computer A can only login to the users PC1, PC2, PC3,
    but not benevol
meen while computer B can only login to benevol
    and not pc1, pc2, pc3
    i'm curently runnig win7 pro and win server2008 R2
is there a way to do this ?
    any help would be welcomed

    Hi glennmckenna
By default, every user in AD automatically gets added to Domain Users.
To control who is allowed to log into workstations, If you’re in a smaller AD environment, you can go to the
Account tab in Active Directory Users and
Computers, click the “Log On To…” button and specify the computers the user is allowed to use.
However, in a larger environment, you could use Group policy object for that purpose, these settings can be found in
group policy management editor-> Computer Configuration > Policies > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.

  • How Can You Block People Running Ios 6.1.6

Hi I Need Some Help About Blocking People

With iOS 6 and below there is no way to block specific senders for Messages and FaceTime. All you can do is to change the email address used on your iPod for those services or turn off Messages and FT altogether.

  • Who else thinks the feature to block people's calls is pointless?

This new feature to block people's calls is pointless. Because all they  got to do is switch off their caller ID or put 141 in front and they can  still call you! Pointlessssss! Is there any way to block "blocked" or "unknown" calls?

On any handset, landline or mobile, the only way to block calls is to use a function known as blacklisting.  That requires the call to connect so the handset can capture the caller ID and use it to compare to a blacklist of disallowed numbers.
True call blocking, where the number simple never connects, can only be done by a telephone service provider at their switches.  Anything that a handset does must use the caller ID informtion as other than that informtation, all calls are identitical as far as your handset is concerned.
The carrier's switching equipment, on the other hand, has access to other information that is blocked to the handset (even a blocked caller ID is still know to the carrier's equipment, for example).
Most carriers should already block "unkowns" through a service called anonymous call rejection (e.g. I know AT&T USA does this by default on all smart phone service accounts), either as a default service or an optional one.

  • How do I block people from texting me in "iMessage" / "Messages" on the iPad?

    AARRGGGGHHHH!!
People are "texting" me on my iPad and I can't make it stop. HELP!!
I can't believe ... I'm absolutely dumb-founded ... that Apple provides no way to block harassing users. This is NOT related to a wireless/cellular carrier, this is on my wifi-only iPad.

You really have to wonder why the feature of blocking someone is not available.  It would be simple to implement.  Harrassing text messages, imessages, whatever you want to call them give an abuser a way to contact someone who does not want any contact.  This can result in psychological damage, even in some cases suicide.  If I am receiving unwanted messages from someone, I don't see why I can't just hit a button that says block.  The message then can be diverted to a folder, and if I want to unblock them I should be allowed.  There is not one reason I can imagine why I should not have this power.  It's ridiculous and unfortunate that in this age of bullying and stalking, we aren't allowed this modicum of control over our privacy.  So just when you think you have forgotten someone, or someone you love has finally removed an abusive person from their lives and moved on, all that person has to do is suddenly decide to text you day and night so that you cannot do anything but think about them.  Why oh why is there no block messages from this person button as there is in virtually every social networking website?  I am flabbergasted.  And of course if you have a data plan and someone wants to send you spam, they can actually eat into your data usage against your will.  I have to deny my family the ability to send me iMessages by completely disabling it because one nutcase won't leave me alone?  Again, where is our control over our privacy?  I'm frustrated over this issue, and after seeing what happened to Amanda Todd I don't see why it's not mandatory that this feature be added to every instant messaging platform.  "Block User"  I'm completely blown away now that I've researched this issue and I hope other people rally behind a change.  How hard would it be for a 45kb update to iMessage with the ability to block users?  Someday Apple is going to get sued when something terrible happens all because they refused to listen to reason.  We need cotrol of our lives, and especially where teenagers are concerned.  They need to be able to block unwanted attention from people who found a way into their personal lives.  Go to youtube and look up Amanda Todd.  It's tragic and Apple is going to do nothing about it.  Anybody who is living through this sort of nightmare knows how insane it is that we cannot simply hit "block user".  I also am dumbfounded!

  • Blocking people in Group Chats

Hello there, I've been doing a great amount of reseasrch on this topic, and it seems that blocking someone doesn't prevent you from seeing their messages posted to a group chat that you're both in.
Previous "Solutions" have amounted to "Hope you're an admin and can kick them". I'm told that this feature used to be available in older versions, but having trawled through a great many dubious download sites not one of the old versions that purport to still have this feature has still been supported by Skype, connections from those old cleints are refused. I'd really, really appreciate it if this would be re-implemented, and don't really understand what could possibly be the rationalisation behind removing it in the first place? I see a great deal of requests from the community, of varying degrees of politeness, expressing confusion and anger about this and I hope that making a posting here might lead to some kind of fix, once and for all.

Yes, block/ignore function is mandatory in every application which provides some kind of group chat functionality. Especially if these group chats are somewhat persistent like they are in skype. I don't understand why this MOD "Ellie" suggests the things she did in her post. Do you really think that when there is 5-20 people in the group chat, everyone tolerates everyones... "potentially constructive" or "worthwhile postings" like Ellie described the messages. I can answer this myself. The answer is no, people won't tolerate each other and they shouldn't because there should be ignore/block function available also in the group chats. Jeez, why do I have to even explain this stuff... Please, implement ignore/block function to the group chats.

  • Is there a way to block people who don't use caller id?

I'm basically want my iPhone to not let calls go through unless they show their number. Thanks.

There is not a setting on the phone to do that. The closest thing would be to use Do Not Disturb which has an option to limit incoming calls to those in your Contacts, but that would also stop calls from those with a visible number but who are not in your Contacts. Might check with your carrier -- but mine will only block specific numbers.

  • What happened to our ability to block people who a...

What has happened to the button that allowed us to block scammers/spammers? I got a skype thing tonight and I want to block the one who tried to contact me, but that is no longer available on my skype. What is going on and why has that feature been dropped?

    HI,
It used to be that you could drag a Pic to the Background (Active Chat part) rather than the Text Entry field then the Pic would become the background and in some cases tiling.
It could also be dragged to the Preferences > Messages section (like you can see the Font and colour choice you make).
However as you have found out it seems to have been removed.
Despite saying iChat and being several OSes and iChat versions out already I would use this page

  • 4s blocking people from receiving my messages

I have had THE worst luck with apple so far. This is my second iPhone in a week! First one (iPhone4) battery life was draining by the minute... current one (iPhone4s) where do I begin? Picture messages won't send, left side of keyboard won't work, center of keyboard wont work, my phone is blocking me from sending and recieving mms messages to 1 contact. It says I added him to my block list, which I have not done.. I wouldnt even know how to go about doing that. Sprint was of no help... anyone in the same boat?

Call Sprint back.  Your carrier (or your contact's carrier) is the only one that can block your messages.

    It is another child.

  • Blocking People from iMessage active on all Devices?

If I block someone via iMessage on my iPad, could they still text me on my iPhone connected to the same number/iCloud account?

Yes, because iMessages are routed to the Apple ID being used for iMessage.  (FYI, the ID may or may not be the same as the ID you are using for iCloud.  iMessage doesn't use or require an iCloud account, just an Apple ID.)  If you're getting someone else's text messages, make sure you aren't both using the same ID for iMessage.  If you are, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Note: the ID you use for iMessage does not need to be the same as the ID you use for other services such as iCloud or the iTunes store.

When I hit "Quick Filter" It shows the number of unread messages, but there are no messages below in my inbox. I don't know what I did. Please help me undo this!

right click the folder, select properties and then the repair button. Repeat the quick filter and see if anything changes.
