Blocking spam calls

This does not apply when the solicitor calls from a 3 or 4 digit number...which I have been continually bothered with lately. How can we block calls from 3 and 4 digit numbers?
Thanks so much for helping me.

Why isn't the ability to block spam calls included with our plan. We spend over $300. a month and only get to block 5 numbers to block, and even those expire. I just added one yesterday and one today and I'll have to go back after September 16th and add those again. Ridicules policy!
This has become an epidemic of Spam calls, do not call lists are ignored and Verizon is sitting back laughing at us waiting for us to spend more to block calls that should be blocked by Verizon after the see the activity. Why don't you have a place to report these numbers? Why isn't it free to block all of these when we report a number?
Get with it Verizon, your going to lose customers if you don't act.
I guess I'm thankful I can block the five numbers for free with an indefinite times I can renew the block every 90 days. I hear that you would have to subscribe to blocking control to block just one number if you are an AT&T customer.

  • Need to block spam calls from 201-*

I'm getting many spam calls from numbers like 201-340-1009, but the right-ward numbers keep changing.
I'm told this is someone mis-using (or just using) PINGER.  I'd like to just block all
calls from 201 area code (New Jersey, not waiting for Snookie call).  Can I do this?
    If not, any other recommendations?
    Much Thanks,
    Dave

You can also list your cell number(s) on the U.S. government's Do Not Call registry by going to https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx. I believe this helps, as I haven't been getting spam calls or texts (though I never got very many) after giving my registration there 31 days to become effective. If they do persist in calling, this gives you a mechanism to report them. This way you only have to register your number, not all the numbers that might be trying to call you.
And (of course) when we go to that site we learn that "Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry. The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry." D'oh!

  • Blocking Spam Phone Calls

hi, is it possible to block entirely some phone numbers from even registering on my phone...I am being called by a spam caller even though on the DNC list. Can I block this caller entirely, so the phone will not vibrate/ring when their number calls and so that they will be unable to leave voice messages or activate the screen alert "phone call from so and so" etc. I just do not care to know anything about this caller. Can I block them -- wouldn't such caller block option be a GREAT plus for digital phones?
    thanks

As far as I know, you cannot block incoming numbers. I was having the same problem and researched the AT&T website and it says that you cannot block specific incoming calls.

  • How do I block persistent spam calls?

Two or three times a day I get a spam call from a telemarkter representing Capital One bank.  I have YouMail that ditches each call afterward, plus I have enable the Apple menu that says it blocks the number.  But it does not, and I keep geting these nuisance calls every day.  It is frustrating!!

Did you tell the telemarketer that you no longer want to receive their calls?
Is the phone number that calls always the same?

  • Block Unknown Call / SMS

Everything that I have read suggests the you cannot block individual 'spam' calls or text .. is this is the case, it's not acceptable.
I have a Blackberry Z30 .. there MUST be a way to block individual calls or text. You can on other makes of phones so why not a Blackerry Z30. You can block all calls, but that's a little overkill.
I have been a loyal user of Blackberry phones over the past 6 years, if this cannot be resolved soon, when my current contract is up, I will be switching to another make ..
    Please advise ..
    Thanks

  • Blocking a call

I am trying to block a caller. An international number Spam Block only accepts 10 digits The number I am trying to block has 12. Which of the 12 do I use?

I have done this for telemarketers several times. Add the number that you want to block to your phone book. Make the name something like blocked caller or Telemarketer. Then go to your contacts list, select the contact, press the menu button, and click options. It will bring up a selection box that says send directly to voice mail, check that box. Back out and save if needed.
Now your phone immediately sends every call from this number directly to voice mail without ringing.
This is a quick, free fix that I have used. I also use Google voice for free visual voice mail so if I get a voice mail from the undesired caller and I can quickly delete it without having to call and waste time.
    Simple, free, effective.... Good Luck.....

Unfortunately it's not possible to do this without installing any 3rd party software. I know that Truecaller has this function if you want to use a 3rd party app.

what you are telling i think is too much. I've read your requests and believe me some of them is out of context. One example is listening to radio while being on a call. Who would like to have such options?? It's ridiculous.
But But it doesn't mean all of them are ridiculous! Just like the #1 concerning music, #4 concerning the camera and #5 concerning the volume, I strongly agree with you as it makes sense!
So if I was to write to nokia, which I will do in the coming days is to write them again:
Points #1,4,5,9,11,14,15,24! These are strong points!
People out there, if you want the changes I specified to be done by nokia, you should write them the same points. If only one or two write, it's useless, they won't take it as a priority.
Of course, don't copy paste or they will think the same person is spamming them. I hope it's clear. Write in your own words. Don't think changes will be done by magic or by doing nothing with arms folded. You should do a move.
THIS IS A USER TO USER FORUM. YOU CAN POST YOUR PROBLEM HERE. WE'LL DISCUSS ABOUT IT, THEN ALL OF US SHOULD WRITE NOKIA TO CORRECT THE MATTER IF IT CONCERNS FIRMWARE. FOLLOW THE LINK "CONTACT US > CALL OR EMAIL NOKIA CARE" TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO NOKIA.

  • How do you block a caller

How do you block a number?

    Hi Steve359,
Why should I be required to take time away to go to Verizon's website when all this could be handled locally on the phone taking only a few seconds of time.
    1. When people say block a call, many times they are just trying to block spam or wrong numbers. If it's persoanl issue or threats then yes have Verizon step in if legal action is need it's the user that initiates this. My suggestion is not meant for those in that situation.
    2. Verion, per your notes above, is limited to 5 numbers blocked and you need to renew. Again have the Iphone software handle the users preference which typcially is just ignore the number. I've gotten over 4 spams in Nov. alone as I use my phone for biz and life in general. I expect even more in December with all the holiday spammers gearing up. I can hear them buying server hardware on Cyber Monday deals just to increase spam capacity for Xmass hahaha hohoho.
    3. If you get a text message from spammer, allow the user would have to do is identify it as spam and send to a junk or spam folder. Keep tabs of the number and any text or Vmail for later. Let user decide what length to hold it or delete it instantly.
    4. Many spammers roll through phone numbers quickly so the numbers are constantly changing. Handle this in software so you do not limit users to what the carrier limits. Many of the Do Not Call laws were created from results of court cases and protection of individuals so why depend on that system for simple spam? Spam is a growing problem and you need to update how you handle it.
If you do it on the iphone, I get the feeling that Apple is not interested in adding this type of feature, you are not limited to 5 every three months, you don't have to renew, and the user gets more control and options. Something like this would help.
    1. Once a text comes in that is spam, send it to spam folder. That number and message is stored on iphone.
User can indicate ignore all messages, Note I'm not saying block!!!!!, the message is saved until deleted just in case "Do not call List or legal or carrier action is needed and you need to show proof" Next tiem spam is sent from that number it'll automatically go to that folder.
    2. Incoming calls handled same way, allow user to indicate if they get rings from spam folder or if no action is needed. Keep it stupid simple! Note a time in the recent call list and indicate it was spam.
So the question I have, why go through the hassle of calling carrier when Apple should have a spam option in the software? Let the carrier and legal system handle the bad stuff and let Apple handle the easy spam filtering.
True blocking calls should go to carier while spam should be handled by the user preference via software.

  • How do I block a call?

I keep receiving calls from Louisiana. Nobody answers when I say hello. Call and Message Blocking - My Verizon does not work. I have a prepaid Moto G.

A couple of other options, you can install Mr. Number (Mr. Number-Block calls & spam - Android Apps on Google Play) and block specific numbers or even block all suspected spam calls with it.  Alternatively you can add a contact to your phone and set it to auto reject calls from that contact.

  • Spam calls emptying my account

    Hi,
I'm getting spam calls to my telephone number, which redirect to my mobile abroad. Even if I don't answer the call, I'm charged 21 pence per call, which if you look at my call history has amounted to a number of pounds in just a few minutes.
I've had to switch off the redirect feature, which renders the online number subscription useless.
All the calls are from a blocked number - is there a way to refuse calls from blocked caller IDs?
Why am I charged for a redirected call, even when I don't answer it?
Is there any hope of a refund for all those spam calls?
    Thanks,
    Mark

One more detail / question: When checking "Recent Activity" in my Microsoft Account I see no login to my Account at the time of the password reset / sending of the spam messages. Should I see logins using the Skype account in the "Recent Activity" in my Microsoft Account history?

  • High phone bill usage = spam calls?

Seem to have expensive phone bills each month, at least higher than i would expect.
When I queried this BT tell me I'm connecting to peoples phones who are not picking up BUT I get spam calls most other days where in I answer the phone but no one answers.
Are many other people getting similar happenings?
I'm thinking its possibly a screw over and I'm getting charged.
Ive started to log the dates and times so IF I can ever get through to BT I can go through the call costs.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You should not be charged for any incoming calls.
I'd suggest that you get a handset that has a Caller Display.  Thses calls are a pest, and we are all plagued by them.
There is a BT phone that has a Call Blocker facility which intercepts the calls before you have to answer. The BT 8500 and similar kit prevents intrusion to you, I'd look around and begin to buy the right kit.
If in doubt, dont pick up.  Or, tell them that you are in Madegascar.....................

  • How do I block private calls?

How do you block private calls?

I've been using an app called Mr. Number for about 7 years.  It gives you the option to send private numbers, blocked numbers, spam, specific area codes, everyone but certain numbers,  and specific folks to 1)voice mail or to 2) it auto hangs up on them so they can't leave a vm. It also blocks their texts.
Many new Android phones come with the blocking feature in the phone settings.  But it will only send calls to voice mail.  If you don't even want to know they called use Mr. Number. I give that app 4 stars (it used be 5 stars when it also had to great caller id)   Not sure what phone you have but Mr Number is available on multiple platforms.

  • I am recieving calls from a solicitor. Show up as no caller Id. I want to block all calls that do not show caller Id. Can I do that? I am on the do not call list

How do I block all in coming calls that do not show on my caller Id. Phone says "no caller id" This particular call is from a place selling septic tank cleaner. They leave an automated voice mail. They are calling me over and over. I am on the national do not call list but that's no help. Because the caller id doesn't show anything I can't even report them.
I remember in the past calling a number and before my call would go thru I would have to enter my phone number so the party I was calling knew who was calling them. That is what I want to do. I want to block all calls from "no caller id" "number unavailable" Just FYI my phone is an IPHONE 5 and I am on Verizon.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

        itbitybob, good day!
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us today. I know how frustrating it can be getting phone calls from "no caller id" numbers. We do have an option that is called Family Base that will allow you to block unknown numbers, private numbers, or caller id. This link will provide you with the full details of this option. http://vz.to/1gIklla I hope this is able to answer your question. • How can I block 'no caller id' calls from contacting me?

Over the last couple of days someone has got a hold of my number, and has been calling me with a private number. I want to know if there is a way I can block all calls on my phone that come from a private 'no caller ID' number, and only allow ones that have a caller ID through. I have tried contacting my service provider Telstra which they said the most they can do is put me on the do not call register (which doesn't help my situation at all, as the person isn't a telemarketer). Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix my problem?
    Thanks.
(I have an iPhone 5 iOS 7.1.1 and my service provider is Telstra Australia)

There is no Third Party App you can load onto an iPhone that will be allowed to take over your iPhone's Phone without jailbreaking your device (which cannot be discussed here nor would I ever recommend doing it).
One feature you can use is the Do Not Disturb feature.  You can set it to allow calls from your Favorites then add all of your people to your favorites, but that is not quite what you are asking for.
