Blocking Spam Email

Greetings! Can anyone share how to block spam email on the iPhone? I have the spam email blocked on my pop email account but it is not blocking it once delivered to my iphone.

You should ask your email account provider why they don't have an adequate junk mail filter available at the incoming mail server.
The iPhone's mail client does not include a junk mail filter and even if it did, it wouldn't match the junk mail learned settings with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer.
With an IMAP account, you can store the account's junk mailbox on the server, which will be available and kept synchronized with the server automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's mail client. Keep the email client on your computer launched and running actively checking the account for new messages - checking for new messages every 5 minutes. Any message that is marked as junk with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer and moved to the account's junk mailbox stored on the server will be reflected automatically when checking the account with the iPhone's mail client - all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
So in effect, you have a junk mail filter available with the iPhone's mail client that is being handled with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account.
This is not possible with a POP account, which is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

How to block spam email sender on iMac ?

You can setup a Junk mail filter in Mail preferences, it will still enter your mailbox but be under a Junk folder. You can then check and if required delete the mail.
In this web page note the option of applying the filter via webmail on an IMAP server such as iCloud.

Another option is a commercial filter for Mail, this one but I know nothing about this software, a google search will probably find others.

The iPad itself cannot do it.  It must be done at the server, i.e. by your email provider.

  • Blocking Spam Emails by subject name in Exchange Server 2013

    Hello Guys,
I need to know how to block spams by subject from Exchange Server 2013's Anti-spam/message filter.
In general, I'm using Exchange's anti-spam agents and configured spam blocking by domain name.. but I need to filter unnecessary emails by subject name also.
So, if you know how to resolve this issue, please post here the real solution..
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi GMG,
    Thank you for your question.
We could install Exchange 2013 edge server, then we could create item which block spam base on subject name in “Protection”, we could refer to the following link:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124701%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
There is a another method, we could use transport rule to filter spam by subject name by the following link:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351127(v=exchg.150).aspx
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

  • Amavisd log - Blocked SPAM

    Hello,
We are experiencing a Blocked SPAM for a real e-mail on our Tiger Server machine.
An excerpt from /var/log/amavisd.log looks like below:
    Jun 29 20:52:49 students.nese.com /usr/bin/amavisd[26186]: (26186-06) Blocked SPAM, <[email protected]> -> <[email protected]>, Hits: 6.718, tag=-999, tag2=4, kill=4, L/Y/Y/Y
    Oct 29 04:23:28 students.nese.com /usr/bin/amavisd[7670]: (07670-04) Blocked SPAM, <[email protected]> -> <[email protected]>, Hits: 6.639, tag=-999, tag2=4, kill=4, L/Y/Y/Y
the e-mails from "[email protected]" is a real e-mail and for some reason everything that comes in from uhak.com domain has been "Blocked". We are using zen.spamhaus.org for spam filter and I have checked that uhak.com ip address was not on their blacklist. However this domain was blacklisted someplace else (eg. korea.services.net) BUT we do not use that Korea.services.net service. Also uhak.com's rev DNS lookup resolve to spam.mailwood.com (which sounds suspicious)...
I've read somewhere that Spamassasin does not block spam, it'll just marked it is that true?
Is there a way to allow our mail server to receive emails from uhak.com but still have spam filter on (we do not want to be vulnerable to spams).
Thank you very much for your kind assistance!
    Sumomo

This is not being blocked by an RBL (i.e. spamhaus.org), but by SpamAssassin based on other criteria which make it seem spam (can't tell without seeing mail).
I've read somewhere that Spamassasin does not block spam, it'll just marked it is that true?
This depends on the settings in /etc/amavisd.conf. The default setting on Mac OS X Server is to discard spam above kill level and at the same time tag and kill level are set to be the same. Thus, resulting in everything above 4 in your case to be discarded.
    Edit /etc/amavisd.conf and change:
    $sakill_leveldeflt = $satag2_leveldeflt;
    to:
    $sakill_leveldeflt = 10.0;
    save and restart mail services.
This will mark all spam between 4 and 10, but send it on to the users. Mails above 10 will be discarded.

deggie is 100% right, you must do it at gMail-webMail from a web browser. Your iPad will probably be easiest.
FYI, gMail is responsible for filtering SPAM. Your iDevices merely check your webMail's INBOX for unread messages. If SPAM gets there, it means gMail is not recognizing the messages as such. You should be able to block individual eMail addresses there as well, for the ones that are slipping through the cracks.
    Hope this helps.

  • Spam blocking for email accounts

Anyone know how to block spam ads from email accounts?  I have both work and personal email accounts--spam only coming in on on personal.  I've installed Lookout Mobile Security, but doesn't stop the 7-10 product ads per day from coming into my inbox.  Verizon tech assistance was courteous and helpful, but wrong.  They're the ones who told me to install Lookout Mobile Security. It may work for antivirus, but doesn't stop spam.

  • Spam Email Server Account Hijacked

    Hello everyone,
I've been having a lot of trouble with one particular email server. I've posted a couple of questions but nobody has answered me so I went and re-installed the whole server by changing it's static IP and adding an Airport Extreme in between so that the server only does DNS, Open Directory, File Sharing and Email.
Everything it's been going well until one user started receiving email notifications about mail returned messages.
    I've tried several things:
    - Removed the non SSL website so I only left the Webmail on 443
    - Changed to more secure passwords
    - Lock the account after 10 bad passwords (the user gets blocked every couple of hours)
    - Deactivate the POP protocol as nobody is using it, we are only using
    - Tried blocking some Russian IPs because I noticed that all the emails are Reply To the domain ngs.ru but from the logs it looks like it's going through locally.
My user has only Macs and iOS products so even though it's a mixed environment I don't think there could be a Malware doing this.
I don't know what else can I do, I really want to avoid the server getting blacklisted and I've been looking for help so I would really appreciate if someone can provide me some guidance.

    I'll really appreciate anyone's help.

I've been getting a lot of bounce backs from the same SMTP server as you to our email domain as well.
The offending server mwinf5d55.orange.fr is sending "backscatter" spam which should be simply dropped by them instead of bouncing back to the "FROM" address.
Because of this problem of bounced emails, I've tweaked our SPF (Sender Policy Framework) DNS TXT entry for our email domain to help receiving mailservers know what our legitimate OUTBOUND smtp mail servers actually are.  This should allow correctly configured email servers to drop any email from mwinf5d55.orange.fr because it is not a valid source of email for our domain.
    (See http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax for some syntax)
Some details that I've dug up:
The SMTP server at orange.fr is accepting mail based on forged FROM: addresses which bounce back to you by the receiving target TO: address mailservers.
Eg. From your email bounce back message:  host mail.ru[94.100.176.20] said: 550 spam message discarded.
I'm not sure if the spammer is using the mwinf5d55.orange.fr smtp server as an open relay or if it's using someone else's smtp username and password to send mail.
If you look at the email headers of the original bounced (spam) email that caused the backscatter it shows for example (from one of our bounces that I've received):
    Received: from Unknown ([92.46.248.56])
    by mwinf5d55 with ME
    id 7XfA1l00l1Dkwus03XfJsw; Mon, 04 Mar 2013 20:39:43 +0100
    X-ME-IP: 92.46.248.56
    X-ME-Entity: ofr
When you look up the IP address source of that email it shows that it is coming from "JSC Kazakhtelecom, West Kazakhstan Affiliate".
    http://en.utrace.de/whois/92.46.248.56
If you lookup the original source email and find that it's from your original user's computer then you have a problem.  If it's from a compromised machine overseas that's sending forged spam on your user's behalf, then there's not too much you can do about it short of publishing a correct SPF record.
    Hope that helps.

  • Spam email on wrong addresses

    Hi everybody,
From 1 week i'm receiving spam email on my (icloud) email address: It's strange, because i never diffused and used that address, but ok spam is spam.
The problem is that the same email are arrived by unknown addresses ON a unknown addresses!! Yes, the receiver addresses aren't mine but however I received the mails on my icloud account!!
Why? How i can do for resolve this problem?
    Maybe the accout was violated?
    Thanks in advance.

Something is miserably broken with Verizon's mail filters.  A large portion of the email THAT I WANT AND/OR NEED is blocked yet the garbage email messages are sent through.
I cannnot send email using any program other than the web page.  I used to be able to send email from my phone and from outlook on my computer, but something changed on their side as the outgoing mail server no longer recognizes me.  It says that my password is incorrect, yet I am able to log into the email system to get my mail.  I have been using the internet for over 20 years (yes, I know, I was working with a startup ISP in 1994, I am old).  I know how to configure SMTP and POP mail clients.

How do I block a email when using iOS-8 and a Mac.com email account?

Unless you run your own mail server on the Internet, I don't believe anyone actually blocks e-mail. I believe they marked it as spam, and then it is handled as spam ... you just don't see it from then on.

what to do to avoid this ?
I want when the user receives a spam I want to go to junk-email not inbox.

    Hi,
Thanks for your detailed configuration steps.
As the Anti-Spam workflow article, I suggest double check whether the “spamhuas” in the IP Allow List.
    1. Connection Filtering
IP Allow List -> IP Block List -> Safe Provider List -> IP Block Provider’s RBL
      1) If sender IP in IP Alllow List, the message flow to Sender filtering directly. If not, it flows to IP Block List.
      2) If sender IP in IP Block List, the message is rejected and applied no other filters. If not, it flows to Safe Provider List.
      3) If spamhaus in Safe Provider List, the message flow to Sender filtering directly. If not, it flows to IP Block Provider List.
      4) If in IP Block Provider’s RBL, the message is rejected and applied no other filters. If not, it flows to Sender filtering.
    2. Sender Filtering
Please add spam senders into Blocked Sender and select “Reject message” action.
    3. Content Filtering
Please configure the Custom Words, “Allow messages containing these words or phrases:” and “Block messages containing these words or phrases (messages containing words or phrases listed above will not be blocked):”.

  • How to block an email adress

How can i block a spam mail?

It isn't possible to block an email address with the iPhone's Mail client, and the iPhone's Mail client does not include a junk mail filter.
If the email account is an IMAP account that is also accessed with an email client on your computer that includes a junk mail filter and/or the ability to block an email address, block the email address with the email client on your computer or mark the received messages as junk so future messages sent by the email address will be blocked or marked as junk by the email client used on your computer for accessing the account. Leave the email client used on your computer for accessing the account launched an running actively checking the account for new messages. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. Anything done in this regard with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account will be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client.

Once they are marked as junk, any future emails from them will be sent to the junk or spam folder, thus I will still be receiving emails from them, they a just routed to a different location in my email. If this is correct, I would like to completely block the email address and prevent them from sending me emails versus routing them to my junk box.
