Blocking stolen iPhone activation

Is there a way to prevent someone from ever activating a stolen iPhone by serial number?

in my country if you give the police the IMEI number when you report it stolen they have all carriers block it from ever working as a phone again

  • Why doesnt apple report stolen iphone activations

why doesnt apple have some way of reporting a stolen iphone mine was stolen and i have the find my phone app and its been online once and nothing since that was in december it was stolen in november of last year.  I paid cash for had no insurance on disablility cannot afford another one.  I paid cash when I got my back pay now I have no iphone and nothing i can do.  apple should have some type of system to see that a phone is stolen or not.

In addition to all of the reasons already given, Apple is not in the business of tracking and listing stolen property.  Theft of iPhones, and other smart phones, has reached epidemic proportions in most large cities.  The only people who have a real reason to keep records of stolen phones would be the cell service providers.
The new iOS version 7 has an anti-theft protection feature - the Activation Lock.  Using that feature makes the iPhone useless to the thief.  But the user must turn that on for it to work.

  • How to block stolen iphone?

05/07/2013 my iphone 5h was stolen. Police know about it. But the iphone was deleted in my apple Id. When i wanted to find my iphone, the system writes that the iphone with that IMEI is in the another apple id (not mine). Can you help me,please. How can i punish the thief? I want to block my iphone. If everybody was in the situation, please say what you did. If there are global lists where there are serial nomber and IMEI whice are stolen, how can i add my iphone in this list?
Help me, please. What can i do? if Apple helps me in it?  Has Apple technical support email? I tryed to call to it, but they did not work today. Please say, what is the timezone?
P,S. I am sorry of my english. I am from Russia.

The only way to "Blacklist" your phone is if your carrier offers Blacklisting. There is no International Blacklist. If your carrier does not offer Blacklisting, then there is no way to Blacklist your phone.
    Apple can't/won't help you.

  • Permanently block stolen iphone

    Hi
I lost my iphone about a few months ago. The lost mode has already been activated but somehow, they had managed to use it and even change the name of the phone. I had set it to Lost mode again but they have unlocked it again.
Is there a way to permanently block my iphone so that they can never use it again.

Only your carrier can block the device. If you reported the theft to them, then see if they provide IMEI blacklisting.

First, it's a really bad idea to put your email address in a post to a public forum where millons of people, including some who have less than stellar ethics, will see it. At the least you will now be on thousands of spammer lists.
Log in to your account using your Apple ID and password at https://www.icloud.com and click "Find my iPhone".

  • Another stolen iPhone 4s

I know this subject has been beaten to death on every forum on the internet but I am doing it again!
My wife's iPhone 4S was stolen at Universal Studios Orlando. The thief knew what they were doing because they turned it off immediatly so it cannot be tracked. I guess their next step is to do a clean restore and I'm sol.
Here's my issue. I called AT&T after hours support number and was told that they could put an IMEI block on the phone and tag it, so that if the thief ever tried to register it, it would not allow it and would tell AT&T that is was stolen. They would try track it. Fantastic, this is exactly what I wanted. However, the operator told me that I should wait a few days to see if they switch it back on, so I could track it with Find My iPhone as this was a more reliable method.
I did that and then decided to go ahead a block it. Now when I call AT&T, nobody (and I have been though 5 levels of supervisors) is able to do this block. They claim it is not something that they can do.
Why on earth would this after hours support operator be so knowledgable about the workings of this IMEI block, if it was not possible and not something they offer ?? This makes no sense.  If this guy was just blowing smoke about it, then why in the world don't they offer this (apart from the obviouse profit center in stolen iPhones).
This being my 2nd iPhone stolen and both times both Apple and AT&T's complete lack of interest in helping have left a very bad taste. In my case, the phone is covered by my Amex insurance and the money is not the point (Although I am sure it is for lots of others who have had their phone's stolen).
The point is that I don't want this thief to get away with this. Both of these companies have the ability and infrastructure to block stolen iPhones (they've done it in the past for illegal tethering etc.), however they choose not to as it is a huge profit center. Almost all overseas cell providers do this. What is required to get Apple and AT&T to do the right thing ?

Apparently everyone else at AT&T have never heard of it either. I'm just telling you what this first guy told me in great detail and I would love to know if the calls really are recorded. Then again he was probably from India, where (like everywhere else) they do block stolen IMEI numbers, so who knows ?
To you're 2nd point, it's only in the US where the providers and manufacturers don't do anything. It's big money to providers and I bet they have lobbyists fighting things like this.
The Privacy Act argument is ludicrous. If you have a police report and case number, you can use any legal method to find your property. A thief attempting to register a stolen phone should be immediatly tracked. However, if that is too "Big Brother" for you, then simply not allowing them to register it, is all that is required to deter the thefts. It is still your property and you have the right to disable it.
Also if Privacy was the issue why are companies allowed to sell laptop tracking software, lowjacks etc. I don't buy that argument at all.
The point is that they can stop these thefts if they want to, especially smart phones that need to be registered to used.

  • Why does Apple refuses to use the activation procedure in iTunes to block a stolen iPhone 4S

My iPhone was stolen in Buenos Aires by two, male and female, professional culprits roaming the tourist areas.
Blocked the iPhone (SIM card), filed a police report and activated "Find my iPhone".
Called Apple support with proof of ownership and asked them to put this iPhone on the blacklist in order to avoid activation on iTunes.
Thieves and people trying to buy cheap iPhone's will end up having just a heavy iPod touch. That will learn the fat bastards.
Hope Apple will soon introduce a new App; Explode my iPhone in the face of a thief.

Because Apple is not a law enforcement agency and they have no legal right to do so.

  • HT5012 How to block may stolen iphone

I want to block my stolen iphone 5

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords, especially your Apple ID/iCloud password NOW!
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, and running iOS 7.0, then phone cannot be re-activated or the passcode removed without knowing your Apple iD/Password. It will be nothing but a useless paperweight.
If not running iOS 7.0, the phone can be forced into recovery mode & restored.

  • Stolen iphone? Block Imei?

My iphone is stolen. After being at the police, I was told to ask apple to block the imei. How can I do so?

Your carrier can block your iPhone's IMEI number from being re-activated with your carrier, not Apple.
If your carrier does not have such a blacklist for lost or stolen phones, Apple can't change this.
The police personnel you spoke with are clueless in this regard.

  • HT1937 My iPhone has been stolen.I need to block the iPhone. How can I do it?

    Dear Sir,
My iPhone has been stolen. I need to Block the iPhone.
Please suggest me the ways to block the iPhone.
    With best regards

Contact your carrier, they might be able to blacklist the device. If you have find my iPhone enabled you can try to track it. You can also remote wipe it.
Change all of your passwords and call the police.

  • My iphone was stolen, how do i to block my iphone so can not be reused ?

My iphone was stolen, how do i to block my iphone so can not be reused ? pleas help me. thank you

Can only be done if your carrier offers blacklisting. Some do, some don't. So, report the loss to your carrier. If your carrier does not offer blacklisting, the phone can be restored & reactivated.
Apple does not maintain a database of lost/stolen Apple products & will not help you in anyway to locate your phone or block it.

It was never free for the 3GS.
It is if the initial sign-up is done on an iPhone 4, iPad or iPod touch 4th gen.
    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4436:
After I sign up for Find My iPhone for free, can I use it on other iOS devices?
Yes, if your devices are running iOS 4.2. For example, you can sign up for Find My iPhone for free on your iPad and use the same account information to sign in to MobileMe on your iPhone 3GS and turn on Find My iPhone.

Apple does not get involved with lost or stolen items.  A carrier may offer IMEI blocking (non in the USA currently do, but elsewhere some do).  Your carrier would already know your IMEI number anyway, so just contact them and ask them about it.
It is VERY good that you had a passcode lock on the device.  That means your personal information will be safe.  And yes, after 10 failed attempts (each with increasing time out between allowing another attempt) the device will permanently lock them out until they restore the device in iTunes.  Anyone can go ahead and restore your iPhone as new in iTunes, but that also wipes everything off it and restores it to new condition - which does mean they can go off and use it as theirs, but at least all your data is gone.
Did you file a police report it was stolen?  Also your carrier should be told (and ask them about IMEI blocking).  Sorry it is gone, but you did the best thing possible to protect yourself and your information when you set up that passcode lock.

  • My iphone was stolen. how can i block my iphone?

is it possible to block a stolen iphone?

I'm sorry to hear that Mary.
First of all, report it stolen to your local police department. Tell them your phone's Serial Number.
Second, contact Apple's Lost Prevention department. Tell them your phone's Serial Number.
    Let your carrier know.
If you have iCloud and have enabled Find My iPhone,  if your phone is on and your Apple ID still loaded into the phone, you can go to iCloud.com and locate it.
Do not go after it yourself. Let your local police department know.
If Find My iPHone does not find your phone, either it is turned off or has been erased. If so, it won't find it.
If the phone is merely turned off, and you are certain it is gone forever, from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com you can click on the blue circled and remotely wipe your data. When the phone gets turned on, you will get an email saying the wipe has been done. If your data is already erased, there isn't anything you can do other than steps 1-3.
    Again, I'm sorry.
    Good luck
